“Air Force One had a heck of a view
Air Force One had a heck of a view
Looking down on the patchwork of the blue tarp blues.”

Sonny Landreth….“Blue Tarp Blues”

On August 29, 2005, the City of New Orleans was slammed by Hurricane Katrina, and went underwater when the levees failed, the pumps failed and government failed.  President Bush flew over NOLA two days later, in Air Force One and surveyed the damage.   Landing, of course, would have been impossible.  One, the reports of violence, looting and sniper fire would have made any Presidential in situ inspection a security nightmare.  Two, resources necessary for rescue and relief efforts would have been diverted to assist the Secret Service.  What is forgotten is that President Bush had been at his ranch in Texas and cut his vacation short to return to Washington to deal with the crisis.  So, no offense Sonny, but I seriously doubt that two days after the Storm, residents of New Orleans were able to get themselves to the Home Depot to get any blue tarps at all.   In fact, anyone in the vicinity of the Home Depot was probably helping themselves to a new Samsung big screen at the Best Buy two blocks over.   And if they had not evacuated, they were stranded on roofs or tearing apart the stands at the Superdome.  And call me a skeptic, but I don’t think it was to secure prime seats for the Saints home opener.

Well, we all know what happened next.  Bush and “Brownie” were excoriated for “not caring”.  Meanwhile, “Chocolate City” Nagin was blaming everyone but himself and Kathy Blanco was wiping that “what me worry” look off her face and pointing her crooked little finger at Washington, at FEMA, everywhere but a nearby mirror.  And Bush could only sigh and write checks.  Three years later, at Tulane University (where I once worked at the Law School), an inexperienced big- mouthed nobody Senator from Chicago, whose greatest accomplishment so far had been writing not one but TWO unnecessary autobiographies, raked Bush over the coals for ignoring the grasping hands of need.

Cut to Baton Rouge…11 years later.  Massive flooding due to heavy rainfall.  And the now President (King) Putt* apparently has forgotten what he said about his predecessor.  You know, like he forgot how he snotted about raising the debt ceiling when he arrived at the Senate in 2004 and the abuse of executive orders.  Someone tell Barry this isn’t the Middle Ages – we aren’t waiting for monks on a remote hillside to transcribe history and send the pretty parchments down to us.  We have film.  We have records.

And while you’re at it, remind the effing Main Stream Media (aka the Praetorian Guard; the Democrat Steno Pool, Liberal Lapdogs (I’m sure everyone has his or her fave)) that the general public has functioning brain cells.  We DO remember what you said and did 11 years ago.  We DO remember your evisceration of the sitting President for his “lack of caring.”  What we also are aware of is your total lack of calling out the current resident of 1600 for his complete disregard of any civil upheaval that doesn’t involve his buddies at Black Lives Matter.  For instance:

Never visited Nashville after it flooded on May 1, 2010

Took a week to get to Joplin after the tornado in 2010.

Took 14 days to get to the Gulf Coast after the BP oil spill in 2010

Never went to the site of the Texas wildfires in 2011 and in fact DENIED any FEMA aid to the area

Never went to Ft. Hood and called it an incidence of “workplace violence” rather than terrorism.

However, he was right there on the scene after Superstorm Sandy in 2012.  Getting a bear hug from Governor Christie on the beach and hampering cleanup efforts.  Even the Governor of New York told him he would do nothing but hamper rescue efforts.  Didn’t matter – a day later and there he is, all smiles and promises that this would not be like Katrina.  See a pattern here?  He wasn’t running for re-election in 2010 and 2011.  Boy, the power of  a November ballot.  Couldn’t wait to use that destruction as a photo op.  And the media just “squeeed” like a teenage girl at a Justin Beiber concert.  Look at the way he handled this!  He was magnificent.  Let’s all ignore the other disasters of the last four years (and we’re not even COUNTING the economy and health care)!

So now he is finally visiting Baton Rouge.  He’ll tour the damage for forty minutes and then give an address.  And then check his tee-time for the afternoon at Lakewood.

Wait!  We have photos of Obama’s assistance with rescue efforts!  What a GUY!!!

Play nice!
