A Friday Cigar: H Upmann, The Banker

From The Altadis USA Website:

The Banker by H. Upmann

In 1844, German bankers Carl and Herman Upmann traveled to Cuba where they created an exceptionally unique cigar. They securely locked it away in their vaults to be gifted to their most important clients.

Now, 170 years later, that award-winning blend has been recreated in The Banker by H. Upmann. Enjoy the rich, full-flavored and spicy profile with a robust body and aroma.

An attractive dark-brown, oily wrapper is just the beginning of the beautiful premium cigar. A mellow aroma highlights the rich and robust nutty taste profile that is complemented with well-balanced notes of spice, coffee and leather.

Celebrate the Richest Moments of Life with The Banker by H. Upmann.

Altadis is an old Big Dog when it comes to the Cigar business. They are the biggest and carry some of the most renowned brands out there including Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, and Trinidad. The first three are also Cuban brands, with Cuba opening up, the trademark wars will begin soon. You can read all about some of that here. The history of these brands, and a few more for later are tightly bound to the history of Cuba, Central America, and The United States. More on that as more reviews are written.

Altadis is really stepping up their game as of late across several brands. The Banker has become one of my favorite cigars, I manged to hit on several boxes and some 5 packs at auction and got them at a pretty good price. I would pay full price for this guy though. This one is for slow smoking, I’ll take a good hour to get through it. The first part is lovely peppery and spicy and then mellows out into an earthy, old school, honest cigar with some oak, leather, and nicely aged tobacco. This cigar is always smooth. The wrapper is Ecuador Habano, the filler is Dominican and the binder is Nicaraguan Jalapa. All are from seeds that were liberated from Cuba during and after the revolution.

It’s a very good smoke. I wish I could afford to go on Cigar Safari or one of the other Esteli cigar tours someday.

“liberated during and after the revolution”

    gotta love it

completely off topic but something I was wondering about while I was listening to Rush go on about Swinestain. I’ve lost count of the women who claim he assaulted them.

I haven’t heard ONE say, “yep, that’s how I got the role”

And I have a question about Elon Musk’s electric cars. Do they use cobalt? If so, it could be he’s building products from child slave labor. And by child I mean four years old.

I could run with this one……..

Child miners aged four living a hell on Earth so YOU can drive an electric car: Awful human cost in squalid Congo cobalt mine that Michael Gove didn’t consider in his ‘clean’ energy crusade

Almost every big motor manufacturer striving to produce millions of electric vehicles buys its cobalt from the impoverished central African state. It is the world’s biggest producer, with 60 per cent of the planet’s reserves.

The cobalt is mined by unregulated labour and transported to Asia where battery manufacturers use it to make their products lighter, longer-lasting and rechargeable.

The planned switch to clean energy vehicles has led to an extraordinary surge in demand. While a smartphone battery uses no more than 10 grams of refined cobalt, an electric car needs 15kg (33lb).

But the truth is that most men are good guys who like women and don’t require subservience, they’d just like a woman who likes them that they can trust and have some fun with. It ain’t complicated.

They’re going to get bit in the ass anyway. The left is putting together a huge campaign to eliminate all vaping. They don’t like that they don’t have 100% control over it and want it wiped out. The first ads are already out “Vaping is 100x more likely to cause cancer”.

Mostly in the video games journalism community, but more and more being revealed in Hollywood. Nearly every “green energy” scam has either crap like this or is higher polluting than standard energy. I still remember when it was revealed that there were massive amounts of mercury involved in Solar. Instead of accepting it the left instead tried to discredit the people who revealed it.

having recently spent some time observing cardiac ICU, I am ASTOUNDED at the depth of knowledge and the intensity brought to it. I watched them do rounds while the head honcho grilled everybody on what was going on with hubby, and picked them apart on ‘What’s your thought process about X?”.

30 minutes with one patient and I think they examined his toenails while they were at it. They all had laptops slaved to portable wheelie things. That plus all the equipment in the room, it looked like NASA

Did you catch my story about Hubby’s visit to Tony Podesta’s house for a fundraiser? I’ll tell it again.

Hubby first came to D.C. as part of the Vermont delegation and has known Pat Leahy [note to Aussie: LONG TIME Senator from Vermont] since forever.

John Posesta, Hillary’s sidekick, was given his first job on the Hill by Leahy and those two go way back.

John’s brother, Tony, is a lobbyist and at the time was married to a ball-busting bitch named Heather who started her own ‘consulting’ firm using Tony’s name and money. As part of her entre to D.C. society, she became an art patron. One of her favored artists was a woman by the name of Marina Abramović. Her art is described in polite society as ‘erotic’ but is in fact pornographic and sadistic. Her ‘live installations’ have involved smearing feces on walls. Marina Abramović is the connection to the infamous ‘pizzagate’ conspiracy but that’s another story.

Well, Leahy needed to have a fundraiser and his old friend John asked Tony and Heather to host it. They could pull in big donors with their society connections. Hubby was invited because he’s on Leahy’s ‘always invite’ list. So Hubby went. And was absolutely SHOCKED. Heather seemed quite pleased with all of it, giving tours, etc. But the look on Leahy’s face when he realized what he was seeing was even worse. He only stayed 10 minutes, didn’t stay long enough to be introduced to and say thank you to everyone, a real no-no.

Now, Tony does seem to have some interest in art himself, but I don’t think his tastes run to the pornographic, just painfully “modern”.

    @ eaglesoars:
Podesta and by the look of it his immediate family are degenerates and evil bastards who shouldn’t inhabit earth anymore. How the hell (pardon the pun) did Leahy EVER get to know Podesta? Surely Leahy must have twigged that he wad dealing with some very bad people. OK so Leahy was a politician, and politicians do deal with really bad people but seriously? Obviously Leahy should have assessed Podesta as ‘seriously bent’ and his family even more so. Sounds as if Leahy has a problem judging character or lack thereof.

When it comes to politicians you have to know that by definition they must be deeply compromised individuals by the very calling that they follow. Other than professional associations why would any half decent person ever get cosy with mere politicians? John Podesta is an evil man and I’d advise your hubby to stay well clear of him. Sleaze rubs off easily and it’s very hard to get off once it gets under one’s fingernails.

ok, military people, correct me if I misremember. Trump’s phone call to this widow that Rep Wilson was conveniently in the car to listen to.

IIRC, the POTUS doesn’t call a family just out of the blue. Lost a friend in Nam, went to school with his little brother. They were called ahead of time – by the WH or Pentagon or somebody – to ask if they would accept a call and if so, to set up a pre-arranged time. After all, a POTUS’s schedule is tight, he doesn’t have time to waste with a 5 yr old picking up the phone and then hanging it up, or being insulted by a family wracked by grief.

So, Trump’s phone call to this woman was also pre-scheduled and she set him up.

    amiright?

Joe Walsh got hammered on Twitter for taking issue with the grieving widow’s remarks – you know, “HOW DARE you criticize this woman she lost her husband.”

I may be cold-hearted bitch but I say grieving widow lost her moral authority (1) the moment she arranged for an Impeach Trump CongressLoon to listen in on it; (2) authorizing that same CongressLoon to go public and insult the President; and (3) got herself booked on all kinds of MSM shows further compounding errors 1 and 2 by parroting whatever talking points the CongressLoon told her to say.

Damn straight this was a set up.

And for the MSM to attack General Kelly for sticking up for the President (and Lawrence O’Donnell has crossed over into the Enchanted Kingdom with his BS take on it) is pathetic. I have heard that Democrats are privately banging their heads on their desk over the “Rock Star” and her insane follow up comments.

ambien can cause some sleep walking. it is the appropriate med here to get hubby back on rhythm. i sometimes use the night after coming off of a long stretch of night shifts (my 30 pill prescriptions lasts a year or so). i will stay up all day and then when bedtime rolls around, i am wide awake. at that point i will use ambien.

something that the doc might have overlooked is a judicious use of melatonin at bed time to remind the brain that it is in fact time to sleep. 2-3mg for a week or so should work quite nicely. i use 1 or 2 mg when going onto night shift and day sleeping.

so yes, i would monitor hubby for sleep walking.

ok, military people, correct me if I misremember.

So, Trump’s phone call to this woman was also pre-scheduled and she set him up.

    amiright?

Just as an FYI – these ‘FARA’ reports everyone is talking about vis a vis Tony Podesta, et. al.

This is just a lobbying report form. We have to file ours (domestic lobbying ) every quarter with the Sec of the Senate and the Clerk of the House. Everybody has software to do it so the stuff goes straight to the databases. It’s not a big deal. I don’t know how often the FARAs have to be filed, but it’s a clerical thing. For us it’s a $10K fine if we miss the deadline. Which has happened due to software bugs but they work with you on that kind of stuff.

I think the media is making a big deal over a missed admin issue.

    Holy shit.

Frederica Wilson introduced legislation to put us in Niger and it was passed in the House. Don’t know about the Senate

Washington, D.C. – In a long-awaited victory, the U.S. House of Representatives today by a voice vote passed H.R. 3833/S. 1632, legislation introduced by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (D-Florida) and Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) to help combat Boko Haram.

The measure directs the U.S. secretaries of State and Defense to jointly develop a five-year strategy to aid the Nigerian government; members of the Multinational Joint Task Force created to combat Boko Haram; and international partners who’ve offered their support to counter the regional threat posed by the insurgents. The strategy also would address the crushing humanitarian and education crises the terrorists have created.

Yeah, I’ve had to give them a break from it once in a while. My oldest won’t stop taking it though but he hasn’t had to worry about going over the 20. With his autism I think it’s mostly a comfort of routine. 20 has been the sweet spot for a long time for him. The younger takes 10 because he has another nighttime med. He’s the one who should probably up his dose. The ex and her wife won’t give them a break from it.

    Sleep and blue light.

I have a theory that I tried to discuss with someone over a year ago and got laughed at. At the time she convinced me that I was full of shit.

Still not so sure she was correct. I have experience with chickens. ( Stop laughing… not like you imagine )

In a modern, state of the art poultry facility they now use LED lighting. Also the colour of the lighting changes during the daily cicle. More red in the morning when you wake up the chickens (dawn) then gradually the light intensity increases and more blue is added. Towards the false evening in an environment with no windows the light level is reduced, first blue light then eventually just red to darkness and chickens go to sleep. Sunset.

I proposed using a first generation kindle type of screem\n for a few hours before bed time. They have an ePaper screen. Not lit up like a computer or a phone screen. Just black and white you have to shine a light on to see.

I am now inspired to do a test. No phone or computer screen two to three hours before bed. No blue light that says to my brain it is mid day just before I try to sleep.

I will just read a book on my first generation kindle. ePaper screen. No un natural light,

It’s been tested, it is a problem. My tablets, phone, and computer all have a night mode that turns the light an orangeish color. It seems to work really well. It changes about sunset and is so gradual I usually don’t even notice it. (When I was using the flux application I could notice though because it was instant instead of gradual.)

My ebook reader is the only device that doesn’t have this option for the backlight, so I can’t really use it before bed unless I turn the backlight off and use a room light. Unfortunately my bed light is a “Daylight” and mimics sunlight, so that probably won’t work.

the problem wiht thc, unlike alcohol or opiates or cocaine is that the body does not see thc as poison, so it doesnt go all hell bent to get it out of the system like alcohol or opiates or blow or amphetamines.

I consent to my blood being drawn and tested even after an event where I am going to die or be a vegetable for the rest of my life in an indecent.

    I have nothing to hide.

Maybe just before I lost control I had a fatal myocardial infarction the blood test will show that.

Blood tests can convict you or clear you.

    I only know chickens.

    Google “catch lights”

Blue light. means mid day. chickens hunker down and try to hide because that is the time predators come hunting them. They stay still. easy for humans to pick them up.

    Chicken farming is complicated.

And where do you think softball was based on?

Point is, batter keeps hold of bat in rounders. It is the fact that the bat not the person gets to the base. same as the ball. the ball has to get to the base not the person holding the ball.

Okay, this is utter insanity. My brother had to bring me back a pack of Djarum Black clove filtered cigars. Why, because my f*******ing state made them illegal. “To protect the kids”. I really wish I could get the Djarum cigarillos around here though. Not a filter person myself, plus I’m not a fan of homogenized wrappers. The cigarillos are more of a traditional type. 6 to a pack, cello wrapped, even banded. (I used to smoke the spice islands from Djarum but it looks like they were discontinued sometime after my state went insane.

Yeah, for a “wild west” free state we sure have a crapload of totalitarian leftists. And every damn one came from somewhere else. They took over Bozeman, Butte, Missoula, Kalispell, and Helena. Plus, since they are dems they think they own the Reservation vote. (And to a degree they do.) Luckily we manage to outdo them every couple years, but when the Goppers get in they don’t do crap to reverse the insanity. To be fair, it was the people who voted for the “Clean Air Act”. It was largely misrepresented by the people who pushed it, and was promoted as “for the children”. Roll your own cigar wrappers were banned for several years because the insane State Auditor couldn’t figure out whether to tax them as paper or tobacco, so he had them banned. Clove cigars were banned statewide because they were a “gateway” for kids into cigarettes. (Yeah, I’ve known so many kids that just love clove./) We weren’t even allowed cigar lounges (though someone found a loophole because we have one in my city now, but no one I know can afford the damn place. Over 1000 a year with locker rental. 750 without.)

I really hate the smoking rules and they are getting worse. Look at this crap storm.

BREAKING: Clinton Campaign And The DNC Paid For Research That Led To Trump Dossier

The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about Donald Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, people familiar with the matter said.

Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.

Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community.

Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the firm in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Prior to that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC through the law firm continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.[…]

Elias and Fusion GPS declined to comment on the arrangement. Spokespersons for the Clinton campaign and the DNC had no immediate comment.

People involved in the matter said they would not disclose the dollar-amounts paid to Fusion GPS, but said the campaign and the DNC shared the cost.

    @ lobo91:
This is huge and I don’t doubt that it’s valid, but I don’t see the smoking gun in the article. This is the closest I’ve found.

-Some of the details about Fusion GPS’s work are included in a Oct. 24 letter sent by Perkins Coie to a lawyer representing Fusion GPS telling the research firm it was released from a client confidentiality obligation. The letter was prompted by a legal fight over a subpoena for Fusion GPS’s bank records. –

If this is proven and is reliable, then this will be twice Russia has bit Hillary in the ass this week.

It would no surprise me in the least if Flake’s people reached out to Trump’s people in the back channels to inquire if Trump was going to endorse him in the primary. When he learned he wasnt’t, and that indeed Trump would campaign for an opponent, he probably had visions of Trump’s 20K rallies.

Sorry Gowdy, just not buying it anymore. Investigation after investigation with absolutely no results. The evidence is there and it’s clear to everyone with eyes. At this point without any convictions and results, all I can assume is that you are doing this to pad your career.

Also possible. The fact remains he’s a scumbag.

No! No ! No! You don’t understand the electoral marketplace. Trump should tell Flake’s people… ” of course I’ll support Flake in every way possible’ Then uncross their fingers behind their backs and when push comes to shove Trump should throw Flake under the nearest bus and totally support Flake’s opponent at the Primary stage.

    THAT’s How It’s Done Folks!

Just cross your fingers Mr. President and lie to these arseholes and then stab ’em in the back at the last moment. Always remember that they will do it to you Mr. President just as soon as they get into office.

    Get in first DJT

He who stabs first stabs best!

CW called Gowdy’s self promoting BS ages ago. I made the mistake of doubting him. I guess I shouldn’t expect the best of people.

These plants keep turning up all over the place.

Perhaps I should offer to interrogate all Trump cabinet candidates prior to selection to discover what and who is really pulling their strings!

Give me a week tops and I could guarantee results!

What did you think of the link I put up yesterday? Do you think Mueller is tied up with Soros? There are a lot of financial links, but those might not mean he ever met the man. But, his links to the AG of NY who is buddy buddy with Alex Soros, seems pretty damning.

    Here’s the link again.

    smarmy bastard

He’s not running because Kelli Ward is polling like double digits ahead of him in the primaries. He turned out to not be what he portrayed himself to be and Arizona voters are PO’d about it.
