BOOM!!! Jobs and Wages!

by coldwarrior ( 69 Comments › )
Filed under Economy, Open thread at November 3rd, 2017 - 7:39 am

Economists expect job growth of 310,000 in October, a rebound after the impact of hurricanes Harvey and Irma resulted in a 33,000 decline in September.

The weak September employment report was the biggest shocker in U.S. economic data, after hurricanes ripped through Texas, Florida and other parts of the South in late August and early September. Other data has mostly come in strong, including GDP, which has now grown at 3 percent for two quarters in a row.

“Our forecast is for 325,000. It’s going to be a big number,” said Seth Carpenter, chief U.S. economist at UBS. “You’re going to get a kind of soft average for those two months.”

Goldman Sachs economists expect 340,000 non-farm payrolls, and they say the flooding and power outages from the storms knocked 180,000 jobs off the September payrolls.

Economists said they expect the unemployment rate to remain at an unchanged 4.2 percent, and average hourly earnings are expected to grow by 0.2 percent, or 2.7 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to Thomson Reuters. Wage gains ran at a surprisingly high pace of 2.9 percent.

The increasing is wages is key, this means a demand for labor and an economy that is becoming healthy. If this had happened under president ghetto fabulous we would never hear the end of it.

Where are ya now never-trumpers????? I can’t quite hear yinz yet. It’s OK, we’ll have a full accounting in a few years.

I just saw a clip of Dems smearing the tax cuts. Rep Wyden whined that it is a give away to corporations.
He knows that they will be able to repatriate their money which will create jobs.
Never mind, it doesn’t fit the narrative.

Jeffey can just recuse himself all the way back to Alabama

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told a small group of lawmakers in late September he was recused from appointing a special counsel to look into potential corruption surrounding the Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS’s work on the Trump dossier, according to one of the lawmakers present.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that he and other House Judiciary Committee Republicans had met with Sessions at the Justice Department on September 28 in advance of an upcoming committee hearing with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein later this month.

Gaetz said that when he asked Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate the 2010 Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS, the attorney general stood up, said he could not discuss the matter because he had recused himself, and walked out of the room, leaving them with a group of Rosenstein staffers “who showed no interest.”

“He said that anything that had to do with 2016 election, or Russia, or the candidates in the 2016 election, fell under the scope of his recusal, and he left the room,” Gaetz said.

    @ eaglesoars:

If the AG recuses himself, it means that he (and he alone) will not have any dealings with the ongoing investigation. Remember how Lynch “removed” herself from the investigation into Hillary’s emails. This was NOT a recusal and she no doubt stuck her hand in but most people assumed she was erecting what we call in law the “Chinese Wall” to avoid conflict.

The DOJ can absolutely go forward with the appointment of a Special Counsel if requested to do so by Congress. But the appointment would fall to Rob Rosenstein, the idiot second-in-command who gave us Mueller. However, there is a real problem here in that there is some credible belief that Rosenstein himself may have some tangential connection to this scandal by virtue of his status as the Maryland US Attorney. In that case, Rosenstein would also need to recuse and ask the next in line to do the appointment. Or he could actually request the Solicitor General to make the appointment (which to me makes the most sense).

The DOJ doesn’t distinguish as far as I know – an investigation is an investigation. Preliminary investigatory power probably is vested in the FBI. In many ways, it’s too bad the Independent Counsel statute is gone. That way CONGRESS can appoint its own so-called investigative counsel much like the special counsel.

DOJ would probably be removed completely from the process if the AG was a target of the investigation.. You cannot have a department investigating the man/woman that runs it. Too much of a conflict of interest. In that case, I have no idea who they could appoint.

Well, I’ve had my copy of Samantha Fish’s new album Belle of the West since midnight eastern time (thank you, Amazon pre-order!), and it’s definitely different from her previous works. No blistering electric guitar leads on this one. It’s largely acoustic Mississippi hill country blues, leaning toward country.

Some of the songs on it are ones she’s been playing live for years (like the R.L. Burnside classic “Poor Black Mattie”), but these are totally different arrangements.

Also, the area of the simulation screen that shows the glide path profile – I’m assuming that image was not available in the cockpit?

The Auto-pilot and the Auto throttle are distinct systems that can be joined to offer a seamless automation or act individually as the case may be. These systems also operate in various ‘Modes’ that allows them to do different things and more to the point NOT do some things. As these two systems interact they offer a host of options and that is the PROBLEM. Pilots get confused about what the automated system is actually controlling and again more to the point WHAT IT IS NOT CONTROLLING>

With the autopilot off (they don’t make it clear just how OFF it was as you can turn the autopilot out of the fully automated mode to a manual input mode where the autopilot is controlled through the yoke (setting wheel) that inputs the autopilot and gives it manual control inputs. By the sound of it they knocked the autopilot completely out and they were flying the aircraft manually, though this is not completely clear. The Auto-throttle however was still in automatic mode obviously as they couldn’t lower more flap because they were above flap 20 speed and the auto-pilot was retarding the thrust levers to full closed.

Then some cretin thought that he’d set up the auto throttles for a possible go around climb to 3000 feet in case of a missed approach but this routine action, in a VERY non-routine set of circumstances, switched the Auto-throttle into a mode that didn’t capture the fact that now the speed of the aircraft was NOT being controlled by the auth-throttle and allowing the speed to bleed off until the stick-shaker was triggered warning the dopy crew that the aircraft was about to stop flying and falling out of the air in an aerodynamic stall situation.

The idiot crew then got low and slow in a nose high attitude and just tried to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the round out by puling even further back on the yoke. By this time the aircraft wasn’t actually flying anymore but was falling in a ballistic trajectory towards the sea wall. When the idiot captain finally decided to actually do something there was NOTHING he could do except crash land as he’s used up all of the other options tens of seconds ago. He was going to crash and that was it.

The prime error amongst many many compounding errors came down to NOT FLYING THE AIRCRAFT but getting confused trying to fly the automatics. There were visual cues aplenty just looking out the front but these bosses were buried in the cockpit fiddling with automatics whilst not realising the corner they were painting themselves into. The other BIG error was de-spooling a large turbo-fan engine on approach.

When fling a heavy jet YOU NEVER NEVER NEVER DE-SPOOL AN ENGINE because the compressor wheels are MASSIVE bits of metal and they possess huge INERTIA. It takes about 5 seconds from selecting a HAND FULL of power BEFORE ANYTHING ACTUALLY HAPPENS. Such is the time it takes for an engine to accelerate to above 70% from idle power. With a large modern turbo-jet engine you get squat power out of an engine until it is spooled up above 70 %.
That’s why you drop flap for drag and use the undercarriage to dirty up the aircraft and then put on at lease 70% power on approach. Then you can nudge the thrust levers up and you get instant power response.

Notice from the simulation that the thrust was idle for almost the whole of the approach until WAY TOO LATE the moron in charge gave it a handful of power but nothing happened and the aircraft hit the sea wall while the engine was taking its time accelerating. That is painting oneself into a terrible corner from which there is no way out.

Fly approaches with a medium to long stable approach . Correct EARLY to get on the profile using drag (flaps, undercarriage and if you use it early even speed brakes (panels that pop up on the wing’s fuller surface and dump lift making you descend quickly but without increasing your airspeed making further drag inducing strategies like further flap extensions that are NOT precluded by being above maximum flap speeds for that particular setting. One only uses speed breaks above about 2000 feet because they induce high destabilised rates of descent and you do NOT want that near the ground.

The bozos just about broke every rule in the book and they deserve to be charges with felony culpable manslaughter.

There was a Check and Training captain on the flight deck as well but often when accidents happen …. there is a Check and Training Captain present. Funny that! Egos are HUGE and they can never admit that they screwed up an approach and push on to destruction.

I was flying a Boeing 747-200 Frankfurt-Los Angeles. Weather at LAX was cloudy with showers with changeable winds, slick wet runways and at night. LAX Radar kept us high heading for an overhead followed by vectors onto a medium finals for RW 25 Left.( Left hand runway facing west) and a short tax to the gate.We were still at 8000 feet when there was a runway change happened as a small front moved across the airfield. Radar handed us over to Tower and they asked us to try to get down VERY fast to now land on RW 08(runway heading east and almost under us . The moron in the left hand seat was trying to show off to his mate (passenger) sitting in the jump seat between us and I was encouraged to dirty up the airplane and set up a VERY high rate of decent (in excess of 3000 feet per minute by using the speed breaks. There was NO WAY that I could fly a stabilised approach especially given that we were flying through patches of rain and still IMC (flying on instruments) I was hand flying the airplane at this stage and we had extra distraction in trying to get the approach and landing checks out of the way … waaaay before we had planned. I felt really bad about the way things were going and I said that there was no way we could get down and land safely from where we were. The captain kept grinning and saying to stick to it. I told him that if he thought that he could do any better then he was free to take over. That wiped the smile off his face and I told the engineer that we were going around and told the captain to advise LAX tower that we were on a missed approach and we’d like radar again to vector up to an 8 mile final on an East facing runway of their choice (there were 4 options; RW 08L RW 08 R; Rw 70 L and RW 07 R. The radar controller vectored up around onto a 9 mile final for RW 25 L and all was well with the world. We burner another 5 tonnes of fuel but the passengers all got home safe and sound.

I only ever went around when I needed to and only 5 times in a 20 year career but I NEVER felt that I was failing someway. I was using AIRMANSHIP to keep everyone safe.

    🙂

I had to run Willow over to the vet hospital in a hurry (she’s fine) but as I was leaving I heard Hannity say DOJ was DENYING the report that Sessions had recused himself from the Uraium One investigation. Did anyone get to see the broadcast?

Yup I saw Hennity and apparently the report that Seasons had reclused himself over Uranium One was FALSE NEWS!

    Bastards!

I sensed that there was something behind the simple statement ‘the auto throttle is no longer controlling the airspeed’ that wasn’t being completely extrapolated. Dad talked enough about flying that I grew up with some sense of the parameters involved, especially as he talked a lot about stupid mistakes he saw people make and hot dog pilots. He said exactly what you said – he loved to fly but he didn’t want to be a commercial pilot because ‘they lose the art of flying the plane’.

I’m looking at my toe. I think I’ll have to go to the ER after all. I don’t think it’s broken, I think I just dislocated a phalange and have to have it shoved back over.

I checked Breitbart when I got back – they seem to have removed the story that says Sessions recused himself from Uranium One, et. al. I was expecting an update, not a disappear.

And back to Bergdahl: this judge, Nance, said before he made his decision that he was going to take Trump’s remarks into consideration. Does anyone know if he’s the same judge that Abrahms overruled when Abrahms said Bergdahl DID have to go to trial?

There’s way too much to keep up with. Here’s something else about Uranium One. The FBI sent a notification to preserve records to a whole bunch of people that are on that CIFSA panel that approved the deal. BUT this was done in the context of the Clinton email investigation. It’s rather intricate and there’s no point in me regurgitating here what you can read for yourself.

There was a Check and Training captain on the flight deck as well but often when accidents happen …. there is a Check and Training Captain present. Funny that! Egos are HUGE and they can never admit that they screwed up an approach and push on to destruction.

… as well as the fact that the crew was likely intimidated by the Check and Training captain so none of them were going to contradict any input from said captain

The bozos just about broke every rule in the book and they deserve to be charges with felony culpable manslaughter.

oh I also wanted to say that when I saw the surveillance video of the actual crash I was certain no one survived. Then I read the report and was shocked that so many did.

oh man. this is just TOO sweet. Have you heard about the sign the found posted on a door at Montgomery Blair High School MD that said IT’S OK TO BE WHITE ?? And they pulled it down and now they’re ‘investigating’?

It was a 4Chan trap to trick the media into exposing it’s own bias.
