Tuesday Lunch Open

by coldwarrior ( 87 Comments › )
Filed under Food and Drink, Open thread at January 23rd, 2018 - 7:58 am

…Done with 5 night shifts in a row. Mrs Coldwarrior is going to take me to lunch after I nap. I picked the place.

It’s a new bar in an old building in a town that fell on hard times when the mills closed and NAFTA/GATT gutted what was left of manufacturing.

It seems there is a little revitalization going on in that beat up town down the road…it’s not gentrification as that wouldn’t work here. Maybe the town is slowly getting back on its feet.

I will report back later this afternoon.

In case you missed it, my brother had a heart attack Sunday. He’s in the hospital, had to have artery router rooted and a stint put in, should be out of the hospital sometime this afternoon.

hey CW, look at the IMF estimate for global growth. 3.9%. Trump. When he walks into Davos, they are going to stand up on their chairs and cheer. Then, when Theresa May calls him and says they really WOULD like him to come to the UK, he can tell her has an appt in Lapland with the reindeer.

    @ RIX:

Chris van Hollen was just on Neil Cavuto saying his Maryland constituents are going to owe more in taxes. Tough shit. Maryland tax rate (especially Montgomery County) are sky high. A POTUS is supposed to tell people in Idaho that they have to pay more because Maryland is profligate? And get this. The Maryland attorney general wants the Gov to give him money to sue Trump. The Gov said he gets plenty of money from consumer protection stuff, use that. The AG is bitching he needs more because he has to hire people to go thru all Trump’s tax returns so he can find grounds for suing.

Unreal. I’m not sure that he even has standing to see Trump’s tax returns, let alone file suit based on them. If I were a MD taxpayer – well, that’s why I moved to virginia.

Apparently Peter Beck slipped aboard a Kiwi bit of whimsy when he launched the second Electron rocket last Sunday. It’s a 1 metre light and radar reflector that will probably be the brightest satellite in orbit. He put it there just to encourage folks to look up occasionally and think about stuff that is a bit deeper than what they are planning to watch on TV tonight.

It’ll orbit for about 8 months and then fall back to Earth and burn up. Orbital frequency is 90 minutes and it’s in an 82 degree inclination so it should be able to be seen everywhere from time to time.

    DOJ’s pearl’s are sufficiently clutched.

    Sessions needs to go.

The Justice Department is urging the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, whose staff has compiled a secret memorandum purporting to show “shocking” political bias within the FBI, to give the department a chance to see the memo and warning that first sharing information from the memo with reporters would be “unprecedented” and dangerous.

Furthermore, the department said certain allegations of impropriety are completely unfounded.

“We believe it would be extraordinarily reckless for the Committee to disclose such information publicly without giving the Department and the FBI the opportunity to review the memorandum and to advise the [committee] of the risk of harm to national security and to ongoing investigations that could come from the public release,” a top Justice Department official wrote in a letter today to Rep. Devin Nunes, R-California. “Indeed, we do not understand why the Committee would possibly seek to disclose classified and law enforcement sensitive information without first consulting with the relevant members of the Intelligence Community.”

Thousands Of FBI Cellphones Affected By Glitch That Lost Strzok-Page Texts, Officials Say

Thousands of FBI cellphones were affected by the technical glitch that the DOJ says prevented five months’ worth of text messages between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page from being stored or uploaded into the bureau’s archive system, federal law enforcement officials tell Fox News.

The missing messages have been at the center of a storm of controversy on Capitol Hill, after the DOJ notified congressional committees that there is a gap in records between Dec. 14, 2016, and May 17, 2017. Strzok and Page are under scrutiny after it was revealed that the former members of Robert Mueller’s team exchanged a series of anti-Trump texts during the presidential campaign.

The gap in records covered a crucial period, raising suspicion among GOP lawmakers about how those messages disappeared.

REPORTER: DNC and Hillary Camp Had Contractual Control Over How FBI-DOJ Used Bogus Dossier to Spy on Trump

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) confirmed Wednesday from the Senate floor the Russia dossier was “unverified in 2016” when Obama’s FBI/DOJ used it to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on Trump and his private associates.

Wednesday’s development about the Hillary-funded Russia dossier reveals a new level of corruption in the top FBI brass.

Paul Sperry, reporter for the New York Post spells out how Hillary Clinton coordinated the FBI hit on Donald Trump and his private associates.

    This is HUGE.

Sperry tweeted, “DNC & Hillary Clinton campaign had contractual control over how the product they paid for was used & disseminated. That means Simpson & Steele had to first consult with Clinton campaign lawyers before taking the dossier to the FBI & to the media. Ergo, Hillary coordinated FBI hit”

    1. I’ve seen one report that Steele took the dossier to the FBI independently but I’m not sure I believe it. In any event, I don’t think he knew who GPS Fusion was working for – more accurately, I haven’t seen any evidence that he did

Issue I discovered recently, if you are trying to delete an entire conversation over a certain number of texts (think it’s a thousand?) Android just hangs and won’t delete them. 10-15% of those i triage in total for all visits got their flu shot.

the ‘flu like symptoms’ who i triage, almost none got theirs.

like i said, 100% of staff got theirs and we are only one down out of 25-30 not including ancillary, non-patient care staff

    sounds statistically significant.

Good morning. Having to do with nothing I rolled out early and went to the gym. The monitor on my treadmill
was on Morning Joe. So I decide to watch that freak show. Thing One and Thing Two did not disappoint..
They played a clip of Senator Johnson of Wisconsin talking about off site meetings by FBI types slotting against Trump.
Joe mocked him using some weird Foghorn Leghorn dialect( the Senator is from Wisconsin!) Mika smirked acting like Navis Johnson in drag. And the guest joining in was Bill Kristol.
See, I told you that it had to do with nothing

The NFL sucks, they have been frauds for years.

Looks like there may be an alternative soon. Vince McMahon is bringing back the XFL. And there won’t be any anti-american bull going on there. He’s way too big of a supporter of the military to let his people piss them off.

I’ve been in and out all day, the bits I’ve heard on the radio, Trump is killing it in Davos

And Bill Kristol has hit a new low. Apparently he said Tucker Carlson’s show is now close to ‘ehno-racism’.

There aren’t enough fans for THAT to hit….

Here it is. Interview w/John Harwood CNBC

    https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/24/bill-kristol-takes-on-fox-news-tucker-carlson.html

“Now Fox is sort of — 75 percent of it seems to be birther-like coverage of different issues,” Kristol tells CNBC’s John Harwood.
Kristol criticizes Fox News host Tucker Carlson, saying what he does on TV is “close now to racism, white — I mean, I don’t know if it’s racism exactly — but ethno-nationalism of some kind, let’s call it.”

The Photo That Never Saw The Light of Day: Obama With Farrakhan In 2005

For those of us who have been around the block and have a keen eye for BS, this doesn’t surprise anyone. I still am shocked some many dipshits fell for the “hope-and-cahnge” tripe and never bothered to lift the tent flap to see what was behind the jugeared frauds shtick.

If the info is accurate it will be two years until the first game.

I don’t really like football but I kind of enjoyed the XFL. I thought the uniforms looked better and the game played faster and was overall more enjoyable than the constant time outs and navel gazing of the average NFL game.

Didn’t realize NFL Europe was shut down. Looks like there’s a talent pool out there for McMahon to draw from.
