Fentanyl.

It’s in the ‘heroin.’

It kills you.

Ask Tom Petty. Probably Prince. And these two guys.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aESvWB-kMas[/embedyt]

It ain’t heroin.

And it’s a problem.

(Bumr50’s PSA and Open Thread. Sorry to be such a downer, but people are dying.)

They are dying and in places you never expect to see it. We were in Harford County MD today up by the Penna border – beautiful, rural farmland, small little towns w/one intersection. And signs on churches, VFW, etc about “Heroin Hotline Help Here”. Very sobering.

But GOOD news! We were there to choose our puppy. And she found me! Climbed into my lap, stood up on her back legs to give me kisses, settled down to gnaw on my watchband until she fell asleep in my arms. She was home.

Her name is Mia. We bring her home in 3 wks.

Say Hi to Mia from this Aussie. There is nothing quite like the love of a pup.

    She’s one lucky dog.

    🙂

The fix for the opioid problem is to just say NO, after you cure the initial problem that is the death of the soul of the population. Fix the spiritual problem and the physical symptom of craving oblivion disappears.

It really is as simple as that.

Congrats! We’re going to look at a German Shepherd this coming weekend. If Mrs RW’s co-worker can’t find a rescue group or another home, we’ll probably be adding him to the zoo.

Just from my own experience with people who have liver disease and don’t/can’t stop drinking, I think it’s more than spiritual. Addiction does SOMETHING to your body/brain chemistry that is extremely difficult to overcome.

I don’t watch that stuff. I used to watch them for the clothes but not anymore, even those are awful. BUT – my understanding is that most of the awards – or at least the big ones – went to men. So #MeToo #NotSoMuch I guess. That cracks me up. And Hillary reading from that book redefines ‘pathetic lack of self awareness’. I don’t think these people even KNOW she once represented a man she knew was guilty of the rape of a child, got him acquitted and laughed about it.

    @ RIX:

Thanks! I suspect Willow will beg to differ. We took her with us and altho she was very friendly with the 3 adult dogs, the puppies – 6 of them – pestered her like little mosquitoes and she had to enforce some manner. Unfortunately, Mia was the most obnoxious offender. Dan, her breeder, calls her Squirrel because she figured out how to climb over the wall he constructed for their bathroom den. I just got an email from him saying she’s already escaped twice this morning and is busy teaching the other pups how to do it. She was helping one by pushing it up. Dan will spend this evening cutting a higher wall.

Well, I went to Dan’s family because they bred Bonnie. Mia’s mom, Echo, and Bonnie, are half-sisters (same mother, Diamond). Bonnie was my irrepressible shooting star who let nothing get in her way . Mia sounds like she may be of the same temperament.

    Pure trouble.

A drug that is 10,000 times more powerful than heroin and has been found mixed in batches of the drug may be headed to Pennsylvania, officials warn.

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis issued a warning that carfentanil, a synthetic opioid that has been found “to have caused an ‘overwhelming number’ of overdoses, is in close proximity to Western Pennsylvania,” according to a report Wednesday in The Times Leader of Wilkes Barre.

    Quote from a story.

Seriously, dont play around with Dilaudid. My father was perscribed them for back injuries sustained at work in 1995 and i watched him slide down a long 8 year slope of hell…I’ve seen it first hand beginning to end. He shot himself Halloween night 2003 because of it. He would down (5) 24mg capsules easily in a few hours. I’m not creating a pity thread i’m just living first hand experience. Here is the McCabe story.

You know what’s interesting about that? Last week Axios reported that Wray had threatened to resign if he was forced to fire McCabe. Which puts another angle on Sarah Huckabee Sander’s remarks at the presser today that the WH had nothing to do with this, all questions referred to DOJ. And oddly enough, Wray hasn’t resigned.

And apparently, McCabe read THE MEMO for the first time yesterday. He was fired this morning, this was not something that’s been in the works (I’m looking at various twitter sources that are reporting independently, not piggy backing on each other’s stuff).

And it looks like Howard Kurtz’s new book, Media Madness may have been a factor. He nails McCabe as the leak source of the report saying the FBI thought the dossier was BS AND the report about Priebus asking if the FBI could make that clear to the public.

Breaking: House Votes To Release FBI Abuse Memo

The House Intelligence Committee voted on Monday to release a four-page memo that alleges that top officials in the FBI and Justice Department misled a federal surveillance court in order to obtain a spy warrant against a former Trump campaign adviser.

California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the panel, announced the vote results to reporters.

The White House has five days to object to the release of the memo, though White House officials have suggested that President Trump will allow it to be made public.

California Rep. Devin Nunes, the chairman of the committee, and South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, put together the memo earlier this month based on information provided by the FBI and DOJ.

After 24 Years In Congress, Corrine Brown Starts New Life In Prison

Former Florida Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown reported to federal prison Monday to start her five year sentence for multiple crimes, including tax fraud and corruption.

Brown, 71, turned herself in to the Sumter Correctional Institution in Florida, one of the largest federal prisons in the country, which houses both violent and non-violent offenders. Brown will be serving her five-year sentence at a minimum-security satellite facility, which keeps roughly 391 other female inmates.

Brown was ordered to report before noon Monday, and a black bus with tinted windows arrived at the prison yard and Brown stepped out, the Florida Times-Union reports.

She was in the bus with some family members, and asked Bishop Kelvin Cobaris, a pastor from the Orlando area, to pray for her. When a reporter asked if Brown was afraid, Cobaris said, “The congresswoman is a very strong woman. I didn’t see fear. I saw nervousness.”

I’m not even sure what to say about this:

IT’S TIME TO WAGE WAR AGAINST WAR MOVIES THAT GLORIFY OUTDATED MODELS OF MASCULINITY

For instance, you can see Rambo and John Wayne return to life in the latest war blockbuster, “12 Strong,” which was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who also brought us “Black Hawk Down.” “12 Strong” is an extravaganza about a Special Forces team that fought the Taliban in Afghanistan in the weeks and months after 9/11. During the movie’s pivotal scene, the leader of the Green Berets, played by Chris Hemsworth (the grievously handsome star of the Thor franchise), decimates a hive of Taliban fighters with his rifle ablaze as he gallops ahead on his fearless horse (yes, he’s riding a horse). In the same way that Hemsworth’s assault weapon goes rat-tat-tat and the bad guys fall like bulleted dominoes, the scene itself checks off one born-in-Hollywood cliché after another: of the rugged gunslinger, the warrior in camo, good versus evil, the modern vanquishing the profane, a man at his fullest.

Whenever I write about the real-world impact of war movies – and I’ve gone to bat against “American Sniper,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “13 Hours” — I always get responses along the lines of “Relax, these are just movies. Don’t take them so seriously. They’re harmless.” That’s when it becomes necessary to say that movies can create or reinforce narratives of history and gender that influence what people think and what they do. Boys and men develop their notions of masculinity from a variety of sources that include the films they watch (the extent to which this is true is, of course, open to debate). The time has come for Hollywood to turn away from war movies that, while satisfying to both a studio’s bottom line and a flag-waving concept of patriotism, perpetuate a model of masculinity that does violence to us all.

    ——————-

President Trump is seeking to parlay his first State of the Union address on Tuesday into cash for his reelection campaign by offering supporters a chance to see their name flashed on the screen during a broadcast of the speech.

In a fundraising solicitation on Monday, Trump offered those willing to pay at least $35 the opportunity to see their name displayed during a live streaming of the address on his campaign website.

“This is a movement,” the solicitation says. “It’s not about just one of us. It’s about ALL of us. Which is why your name deserves to be displayed during Tuesday night’s speech.”

The web page to which the solicitation links offers donors the opportunity to contribute as much as $2,700 — the maximum amount allowed per election.
