Have a great Tuesday.

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

the US Navy has identified two possibly very large illegal alien detention facilities in that state.

This has gotten local politicians – who are unalterably opposed to the current Administration’s policies towards illegal aliens – frothing at the mouth.

Busy day but while taking my lunch break stumbled across this. Can’t speak to the historical analysis, maybe it won’t stand up but…….

The 1,500-Year-Old Love Story Between a Persian Prince and a Korean Princess that Could Rewrite History

More than a thousand years before the first European explorer reached Korea’s shores, the Persian Empire was writing love stories about Korean princesses.

It’s a little-known story that could change the way we see our history. Recently, historians took a second look an old Persian epic written around 500 AD and realized that, at the center of the tale, was the unusual story of a Persian prince marrying a Korean princess

China is a production-based economic model, they do not have the ability, or wealth, to consume their own durable goods production; they rely on exports.

The U.S. is a more balanced economy; we consume 80% of our own production. We are self-sustaining, China is not.

Sarah Sanders To Receive Temporary Secret Service Protection

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will receive temporary Secret Service protection, NBC News reports.

Sanders was recently involved in an incident at the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia Sunday, when the owner denied her dinner service because she did not agree with President Donald Trump. The event was the latest in a string of heckling or harrassment episodes targeting Trump administration officials, and it kickstarted a national debate on civility in American politics.

The next brick in the wall to fall will probably be Italy. That would leave the EU so denuded of income that the smaller economies would begin to peel away. No doubt there will be an attempt to form a core NW European group but that will come to nothing as well. Too little too late. The Fourth Reich is falling.

Actually the ‘Red Hen’ is not the only place that has politicised eating and drinking.

There is a village in Italy called Luce where there is a Fascist bar at the end of the town and at the other end these is a Communist bar. I visited both. The Communist bar has the best wine list but the Fascist bar trumps the common when it comes to the menu. The town’s folk only drink and eat at their own political bar. Tye Fascists however have an added tourist attraction. The large tree outside the bar where the Fascists hanged a few local communists 75 years ago.

It seems like only yesterday to the locals of both extremes.

The US appears to be headed in the same divided direction. Tribalism substituting for argument.

OFF THE RECORD: Just had a brief text chat with someone who says their sources claim that 20% of public employee union members will leave in the wake of Janus v. AFSCME. That would be a significant hit to the unions’ pocketbooks, but the bigger hit will come later, as new employees simply refuse to join up in the first place.

I believe you’re referring to the Scott Walker thing. Yeah. Believe it or not, I’m not sure some of the states would want Right to Work to go national. Virginia, for example, uses it as a club to win companies who are looking to relocate to the D.C. area away from Maryland, etc. It’s a distinct advantage they might not want to lose.

his gov’t wants to try him out as a possible peace negotiator (I think they looked at Jared Kushner and thought “hmmm, who we got?”). He’s been there for several days, since the 24th. He started out in Jordan, then went to Jerusalem. There was some bruhaha when his official itinerary was released and it referred to his Jersualem stop as ‘occupied territory’. I think they got that cleared up. I don’t think he went to the Western Wall, but I’m pretty sure he did Yad Vashem because his grandfather’s aunt – or mother? was named a Righteous Gentile.

I think Trump has put everybody on their heels with his rapprochement w/the Magic Kingdom, Britain is trying to establish a post-Brexit identity, and if there’s anything the Arabs understand, it’s monarchy. Stewart? (Stuart, actually). The current line is Saxe-Coburg Gotha. They are German. The current queen’s grandfather changed it to Windsor at the outbreak of WW I. The current queen had a fight on her hands w/her husband to not change it to Mountbatten (a woman being expected to take the surname of her husband and Phillip was a bit of a prig about it). Mountbatten had been anglicized from the German Battenberg. They came to some sort of compromise that (I think) says anyone in line for the throne retains Windsor, everybody else gets Mountbatten.

Bruno arrived at 1:25 am. No middle name yet.

    Nah !

The local tribal affiliations back to 600 BC were Tuscan but the two political opponents were a more recent addition. Tye communists from the time of the French Revolution and the fascists from the Blackshirts of the 30s who were only a variation on the theme os socialist rot. The Communists and Fascists are just two sides of the same evil socialist coin

Romeo and Juliette HAD to have happened by now

No youngsters left in Luce. They all decamped to Roma, Napoli and Firenze and undoubtedly they were all doing the Romeo & Juliette impersonations there. Alt that was left in Luce were the old, middle aged couples and babies and young children. The 18-35 demographic was nowhere to be seen.

Final update: As of this morning, I’m at 106 miles for the month. Thanks to Possum and James and my other donors.

Next year I’m going to shoot for 125 miles and $500.

sorry I could have been more clear. This:

maybe. probably more so than in recent history, altho the 20s-30s were certainly interesting.

referred to the U.S., not Italy

I’m confused. Yesterday the Atlanta Fed came out w/2Q predictions of over 4% GDP, now 1St Q numbers are final and it’s TWO PERCENT. Maria has Greenspan on and altho I can’t understand everything he’s saying (weak voice) he seems to be predicting around 1% in 2019-20 and it has something to do w/demographics.

Do you recall when Reagan pushed ‘Star Wars’ and people went batshit because they swore the technology wouldn’t work and it was expensive as hell? Well, that wasn’t Reagan’s real goal. His real goal was to bait the USSR into trying to keep up – which they had to do, politically – because he knew it would bust them economically. Which it did.

This is what Trump is doing only the target is – China. They’ve been mucking around up there for awhile and he just changed the game. Also, space really is the next frontier (altho somebody is paying attention to the oceans, I hope)
