just an open thread. i have to rest from all of this winning!

edit: yes there is a topic i suppose, its about how to think about the federal debt. debt in dollars and what not is irrelevant. the only number that matters is debt as a percentage of GDP. this is what counts. think about it this way, compare if you make $75,000 and have $10,000 in debt or if you make $30,000 and have $10,000 in debt, there is a huge difference. any other measure is nonsense.

but, lets not get side tracked.

the point of this is that the GOP and the so called principled conservative nevertrumpers have the majority in the house and senate and DID NOT CUT SPENDING.

the only reason that debt to gdp has held is because of trump deregulating and demanding a tax cut. inflows to the govt are way up and gdp is bangin away.

the gop will not cut spending because they are liars. period.

    Marty Armstrong:

I have been stating that (1) were are in a major bull market for the dollar, and (2) it is the US economy that is supporting the world. What I mean is simply this. Everyone from China to Europe is DEPENDENT upon trade with the USA because it is the US consumer who is the marketplace. The balance of the world CANNOT win a trade war with the USA. They have focused on selling to the USA rather than developing their own domestic consumer economies. China has shifted and understood that important distinction and has indeed turned its focus to developing a domestic economy. Europe has not and it is significant to comprehend that the structure of the European Union is disastrous. They want to PRETEND to be the federalized entity of Europe, but all 28 member states must agree on trade.

I agree with that and the subsequent comment you made. However, having a mortgage and a reliable car is not the same as having a 4800 square ft mini-mansion and a Beamer. We have politicians that think the 4800 mini-mansion and Beamer, in a figurative sense, is what the government should have.

The Turks are good fighters, I don’t mean to take anything away from them. But they have a leader who is going to get them humiliated. In that part of the world, that’s a recipe for a short life.

As for Avenatti, somebody told him about the loopholes that allow you to pocket your own campaign money. If the guy thought he’d win and have to, you know, actually show up for work, he’d probably open a vein.

Good god. Submitted without comment. Mostly because I’m at a loss for words

    NYT corrections:

An article on Friday about rising global temperatures described incorrectly an aspect of the average temperature for the United States between May and July. While that temperature, 70.9 degrees Fahrenheit, was 3.4 degrees Fahrenheit above average, it was incorrect to describe it as ā€œalmost 5 percent above averageā€ because Fahrenheit temperatures are not absolute quantities and therefore changes cannot be expressed consistently in terms of percent.

  33. lobo91
    34 | August 11, 2018 9:16 pm

    @ eaglesoars:

Powerline is wrong about this, though:

To see what a foolish error this was, consider that the Times could have reported the same temperatures in degrees Celsius rather than Fahrenheit. The numbers then would have been 21.6 degrees C and 19.7 degrees C. The Times could have claimed a whopping 9.5 ā€œpercent above averageā€!

Using Celsius would have yielded the same error. 21.6 degrees is not 9.5% “hotter” than 19.7.

Now, if they’d reported it in Kelvin, then they could have made that claim. 70.9 degrees F is 294.7611 K. The supposed “average” of 67.5 F is 292.8722 K.

That gives you a percentage increase of 0.645%

So this really seems to be the opening salvo in purging the internet of “wrong-think”. They start with someone extreme (actually, they started years ago with nazi’s and white supremists”) such that most rational people would say, “yeah, he’s extreme” so that banning is “sort of” OK. Then they start moving the boundaries with the goal of banning anyone who dares step outside the bounds of liberal orthodoxy. Failing to defend Alex Jones now will result in people like Crowder being banned next followed by blogs like this.

GA Dem Ran On ā€˜Responsible Gun Regulation,ā€™ Now Sheā€™s Charged With Shooting Murder Of Treasurer

A former Georgia Congressional candidate has been charged with murder after her former campaign treasurer was found dead inside her apartment.

Kellie Collins, of Thomason, turned herself into the McDuffie County Sheriffā€™s Office just as authorities in Aiken County, South Carolina found the body of Curtis Cain, Collinsā€™ former campaign treasurer.

Investigators said Cain did not show up for work on Tuesday, so deputies went to his home to check on him. Thatā€™s when they found him dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

The coroner said the body had been there for at least four days.

Authorities said Cainā€™s Subaru Legacy was also missing.

Collins has been charged with grand larceny in addition to murder.

In 2017, Collins ran as a Democrat against incumbent Rep. Jody Hice, a Republican, for Georgiaā€™s 10th District. She ultimately dropped out of the race, citing personal reasons.

During the race, she touted her support for responsible gun regulation to protect the community.

There is GOOD spending and debt and then again their is BAD spending and debt.

are on GOOD debt if you must because spending on infrastructure and capital equipment will make one more productive and wealthier, whereas BAD debt just hangs an anchor of debt around both our and our children’s necks. When the GDP and productivity grows allow yourself a little largess and go splash out and reward your good sense.

NYT are dumb to the bone.

One can’t remedy that profound level of stupidity !

I blame these morons’ teachers who taught them WHAT to think and not HOW to think. Two and a half generations of numbskull teaching and poof …. there goes civilisation!

Conservative Journalist Laura Loomer BANNED from Facebook

A conservative journalist and Big League Politics contributor was banned from Facebook on Sunday in the midst of a purge of prominent right-wing figures by Silicon Valley tech giants.

ā€œLaura Loomer has been unpublished for repeatedly posting things that donā€™t comply with Facebook Terms,ā€ the site informed Loomer. ā€œPlease review Facebook Community Standards to learn more about our policies.ā€

When fascist tech giants silence users, they never give a concrete reason, only a vague ā€œviolation of termsā€ excuse.

The ban comes on the heels of Loomer being assaulted by a Palestinian congressional candidate from Michigan. Loomer posted the video of the interaction to her Facebook page, and was subsequently banned.

In the past week, radio news giant Alex Jones was banned from YouTube, Apple and Facebook, among smaller platforms like Spotify and Pinterest. British free speech activist Tommy Robinson was then banned from Instagram. Gavin McInnes, co-founder of Vice Media was banned from Twitter.

What do Loomer and the other three purge victims have in common? They are all conservative voices with large platforms.

Many have argued over the past week that tech giants, being private entities, have the right to deny service to anyone they please. Usually this argument works.

But Silicon Valley is a vastly different case. The big four, Apple, Google (YouTube), Facebook, and Twitter have a virtual monopoly on the internet itself, which is the main platform for public discourse in the current year. Not to mention, Silicon Valley is one of the largest lobbyists of bought-and-paid for leftist politicians in Washington, D.C.

Just because the government is not officially silencing conservatives, does not mean they are not complicit.
