Buried Economic News

Yeah, this got buried, deep:

Consumer confidence pops in August to highest level since October 2000

Consumer confidence rose in August despite expectations it would slip.
The August reading is the highest since October 2000.
The survey measures American’s sentiment on current economic conditions and prospects for the next six months, including business and labor market conditions.

Consumer Confidence is a ‘leading indicator’ and this one predicts the next 6 month’s economic activity.

Oh, ad last quarter’s GDP got revised upward 0.1%…Stocks? Booming.

Can you imagine what Trump’s approval would be if the media reported honestly on him for one week. When you consider that he’s doing as well as Obama (or even better) despite the constant barrage of lies and misleading stories, whereas Obama’s halo was never tarnished, it’s pretty damn amazing that the word is getting out there.

In other news, I contributed to Mike Flynn’s defense fund this a.m. Mark Levin promoted it on his radio show last night and his listeners are pretty good at responding to requests to help. I’d love to see him raise several million.

The Mueller Russian-troll farm legal team filed a motion stating that the defense hadn’t filed an appeal….when indeed they had. Somebody isn’t keeping up?

Judge is not going to be pleased with this. I’m pretty sure the dumbest of the dumb on the team were assigned to this because Mueller made these as show indictments. He pooped his pants when a lawyer showed up to represent one of them. In fact, these clods were so sloppy they named in the indictment a company that did not exist in the alleged time period.

This is gonna be so much fun.

California assembly passes bill mandating 100 percent clean electricity

California’s assembly has voted to move the state’s electricity completely off fossil fuels.

The state assembly on Tuesday passed S.B. 100, a proposal to transition California to 100 percent emissions-free electricity sources by 2045. Amid heavy lobbying from environmentalists and other groups, the bill passed, 43 to 32.

2045 eh? It will never happen, but in the meantime the opportunities for graft are endless. Especially as there will BE no light to shine on anything.

  13. 13 | August 29, 2018 1:01 pm

Today has not started out very auspiciously.

    1. Get to the Transit stop and forgot my Clipper Bus/BART cards at home. Had to leave, take a later bus and lost my PRIMO parking spot.

    2. Get to BART and the faregates keep telling me to “See Agent” and no Agent materializes for 10 minutes. Missed TWO trains.

    3. Starbucks explodes all over me when dipsh*t looking at his phone and not where he’s going comes blind around a corner and smashes into me. Keeps walking without so much as an excuse me. Is annoyed I got coffee on his SmartPhone no doubt.

    4. Realize that in 1.4 months I now qualify for the 65 senior citizen transit discount. Not bad monetarily speaking, but it does mean I have officially left Middle Age.

    *sigh*

I watched Freeland’s presser this afternoon, saying how productive the talks were. Translation: I think they’re going to let me walk out of here with my scalp. It was great.

Hey, CW, I have an econ question that’s bit sloppy but I don’t know how else to put it. What’s our trade deficit with Mexico? In the billions, I would think, say 50 just for grins. So if that deficit gets wiped out via the new trade deal, or even significantly decreased, can it not be said that “Mexico paid for the wall”?

Bitter, nasty and petty to the end. McCain family does not invite Sarah Palin to his funeral:

That family should get down on their knees and thank that woman for saving him from national humiliation. I remember he BEGGED her to come to Arizona and campaign for him when he ran for re-election to the Senate because polling was showing him down. She swallowed her pride and relied on her loyalty and went, even though she caught a lot of flake for doing so.

Can’t wait for the regular ‘brown-outs’ to be the industrial standard in Ca. Not to worry. By then industry will have all moved out of the Left Coast and there will be no need for base-load power.

South Australia with their Greenie State government tried this and not only shut down thermal base load coal fired power stations. To ensure that someone in the future was ever tempted to restart them the SA State government had it’s Cortez moment and blew up main base load the power station. Within 12 months the first brown-outs began and then were forced to buy VERY expensive power from neighbouring Victoria that was being generated by burning dirty brown coal. Somehow these greenie crazies rationalised that non sequitur.

Progressives live in a totally separate plane of existence apparently!

In the last thread you asked about who was colluding with Halpin at Corpus Christie College Cambridge. I’d start with Professor Christopher Andrew. He’s got a track record that has Russian fingerprints all over it. Peter Maitland was a facilitator for the Russian cell at Cambridge at the time but has since resigned. Dr. David Gosling a physics professor at Cambridge and a self confessed SVR Russian spy from the 1990s has his fingerprints all over this as well. Your SVR spy host however is one Gleb Cheglakob and his wife Nazik Ibraimova who pulled it all together with his mate Niel Kent a nasty bit of lint from one’s bellybutton. All has gone dark about who exactly was the SVR boss who co-anchored the seminar series with Halper. Who cares really as he’s back in Moscow hiding under his desk.

Take your pick. They are all as guilty as hell.

Jeffrey Toobin Says Flatly Antifa ‘Widely Perceived As African American Organization’ — Triggering A Tidal Wave Of Criticism

CNN’s chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin raised a few eyebrows Wednesday when he claimed that Antifa — the violent “anti-fascist” group responsible for a number of destructive protests and counter-protests nationwide — was “widely perceived as an African American organization.”

Toobin was responding to President Donald Trump’s claims, made during a White House dinner for evangelical leaders, that a shift in power in Congress could lead to violence. Naming Antifa directly, the president added, “The level of hatred — the level of anger — is unbelievable.”

But according to Toobin, the real problem is not the many documented instances of violence perpetrated by Antifa, but the “racism” of the president. “Let’s be clear also about what is going on here,” he said. “The theme here is, ‘I’m Donald Trump and I’ll protect you from the scary, black people.’”

But then Toobin took it a step further, saying, “Antifa is widely perceived as an African-American organization, and this is just part of the same story of Lebron James and Don Lemon and Maxine Waters and the NFL players and the UCLA basketball players. This is about black versus white. This is about Donald Trump’s appeal to racism and it just happens all the time. We never say it — we don’t say it enough for what it is, but that’s what is going on here.”

    Bullshit!

These seminars are staged as ‘hunting grounds’ for SVR covert ops types, to go about identifying and recruiting potential future spies for Moscow. Andrew is a piece of garbage. How he ever managed to get to be the MI5 official historian shows just how corrupt the whole organisation actually is.

    Tell me about it!

A majority of the steel in the Christchurch rebuild was found to be sub standard Chinese trash. Cheap but still trash. Now Steel & Tubs has to replace all of it and then attempt to sue the Chinese firm that sold it to them in the first place. Lotsa luck with that mate!

    🙂

Most of the structural steel in the Chinese ‘new cities’ is sub par but it doesn’t really matter because 40 % of them never get occupied and they’re town down after sitting empty for a few years and so the ‘cycle’ begins again.

40% of the Chinese economy is built on sand and unicorn horns. The additional problem is that EVERYONE in positions of power are CORRUPT to one level or another. Kinda makes the whole edifice of China Inc look a little unstable and shoddy when you look really closely at it.

The company I used to work for got caught up in that “Scandal”. They purchased a large quantity of Chinese made and marked Grade 12.9 for aircraft manufacture. Turned out they were actually Grade 5. Yup, the aircraft crashed, big big stink, several people were investigated but ultimately found not to be culpable. (the company actually had the material data sheets that the Chinese provided with the bolts, it was found to have been fraudulently certified by the Chinese) As a consequence, Chinese steel is banned from use in any US made Aircraft.

Which is, by the way, how I ended up working for the company, they hired me to come in and make sure that the ANSI and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Standards were properly implemented and adhered to.

Cruz Triggers Standing Ovation After This Confrontation With O’Rourke Supporter

Speaking at a townhall in Texas, Senator Ted Cruz (r-TX) was detailing the differences between himself and his challenger, Dem. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, when he began, “On the Second Amendment—” prompting a gun rights supporter to interrupt, “Come and take it!”

That triggered an apparent O’Rourke supporter, who had been heckling Cruz, to yell out, “Oh, we will!”

Cruz than catalyzed an eruption and standing ovation from the crowd that lasted nearly 30 seconds, answering, “The best exchange of the entire election; on the Second Amendment, ‘Come and take it,’ and the Beto O’Rourke supporter screams, ‘Oh, we will.’ … The question is, is Texas gonna stand up and defend our freedom?”

  86. 86 | August 30, 2018 7:52 pm

    Speaking of the National Anthem.

Headlines reads: “In a Blow to the NFL, Arbiter Rules that Colin Kaepernick’s Lawsuit Can Proceed”

First of all, it’s not a BLOW to anyone. Most cases usually find their way to a mediator or an arbiter in the early stages. This is done for a variety of reasons. Discovery is an expensive process. And this is supposedly involving 32 NFL franchises, which means every Owner, GM, Coach etc. is a potential deponent. The NFL was simply trying to see if there was a way to settle with this asshat before litigation.

By the way, I don’t know if Krapperdick has stopped to realize this, but I’ll bet my paycheck that in the end he finds there was no collusion. The NFL rehired Michael VICK for goodness sake – he was in prison for his role in the torturing and killing of dogs! They aren’t going to care about the kneeler – practically every team has one at this point. What Krapperdick can’t get over is that there isn’t a single NFL team that wants him as a starter. His day is done, and it has been done. Even the 49ers didn’t want him anymore – they were more than willing for him to walk away from his contract. All offers he’s had were for backup positions, with backup money.

But here’s where Krapperdick is going to have a problem. If he LOSES and/or the case is dismissed on motion for summary judgment, EVERY ONE of those NFL teams can individually petition for the recovery of their reasonable attorneys’ fees and cost. I just did a memo for a trial that finished up awhile ago and a couple years of discovery and a two-week trial. It was $7,000,000+ – and the judge awarded it to us. Krapper is probably looking at three, four years of discovery considering the number of depositions that are going to take place. Imagine even $2 million award for each defendant, x 32.

Chapel Hill police chief told officers to ‘stay way out’ as Confederate monument was toppled; one officer put on leave amid concerns over tattoo

Police Chief Chris Blue instructed Chapel Hill officers to stand aside last week as protesters pulled down a controversial Confederate monument on the University of North Carolina campus, a review of Blue’s text messages and emails shows.

Following a public records request, WRAL News obtained about 400 pages of emails and texts sent to and from Blue on Aug. 20-21 – before, during and after the protest that led to the toppling of the “Silent Sam” statue.

Blue’s texts show he was closely monitoring what unfolded at McCorkle Place on campus on Aug. 20 and was relaying directions to his officers. It remains unclear who sent some texts to Blue and received his messages in return.

“Looks like about 200 people. Making speeches. Crowd is calm. Curt said they saw a couple of counter folks moving up from the planetarium. They [are] keeping eyes on them,” a text sent to Blue around 6:30 p.m. reads.

“Ask them to get some pics and share them,” Blue responds.

“It looks like it’s getting busy,” someone else texts a short time later.

    “Counter demonstrators?” Blue asks.

“Don’t see any and not reports if any,” comes the response.

“Have you asked? UNC is seeing things we are not,” Blue texts. “I’d appreciate a periodic update. Maybe some pics?”

UNC Police officers also were at the demonstration.

“Mark is watching it on Facebook and it looks ok,” someone texts. “Moving to silent sam.”

Blue sends a thumbs-up emoji and suggests helping with traffic control.

When someone lets him know officers on bicycles are already doing that, he replies, “Ok. Monitor the masked folks. Keep our folks off McCorkle place for now.”

“Need to make sure our plainclothes guys are really looking out for counter protesters to arrive,” Blue texts at 7:35 p.m. “This thing is all over tv and internet. The longer they take with the statue the more time Folks have to arrive.”

Dots Connecting Quickly: Bruce Ohr Worked With Andrew Weissmann, While Nellie Ohr Worked For Fusion GPS in 2015…

Last Sunday Representative Darrell Issa was being interviewed by Maria Bartiromo about the testimony of Bruce Ohr when Issa innocuously said that Nellie Ohr was working for Fusion GPS in 2015. Previous to that statement by Issa the timeline for Nellie Ohr working with Fusion GPS began in April of 2016 (simultaneous to Fusion beginning the contract work for the Clinton Campaign and sub-contracting of Chris Steele).

If the 2015 date was correct, this was a big deal; a VERY BIG deal. Well, today amid other revelations within an excellent report by Chuck Ross at the Daily Caller, the 2015 date is confirmed:

[…] Republicans pressed Ohr about how his wife, a Russia expert named Nellie Ohr, came to work for Fusion GPS.

Ohr testified that Fusion approached his wife for a job and that she began working for the research firm in late 2015. California GOP Rep. Darrell Issa said Ohr testified that his wife was paid $44,000 by Fusion GPS. As TheDCNF has reported, Ohr did not disclose his wife’s Fusion income on his annual ethics disclosure form.

Perkins Coie, the law firm for the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee, paid Fusion GPS more than $1 million for the Trump-Russia project. Fusion paid Steele nearly $170,000 for his work. (read more)

If Nellie Ohr began working for FusionGPS in “late 2015”, an entire set of prior suspicions now gains a lot more traction. We have long suspected that Fusion-GPS was one of the contractors with access to the FBI/NSA database. The contractors were conducting political opposition research by exploiting the FISA 702(16)(17) process which would be available for counterintelligence purposes; hence the DOJ-National Security Division.

From November 1, 2015, to May 1st, 2016, thousands of search queries were conducted with a “non-compliance rate of 85%”. That means the “contractors” were massively abusing their access to the database; and a full 85% of their activity was demonstrably unlawful.

It is highly likely, almost certain, all of this unlawful query activity was political opposition research being conducted by political operatives, agents and DOJ/FBI affiliates within the apparatus. Fusion GPS seems like an obvious organization who would be participating in that activity. Adding to this likelihood we now have Nellie Ohr working within this exact timeline.

    Your dose of happy news.

The United States is ending all funding for the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency, the US State Department says.
It described the organisation, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa), as “irredeemably flawed”.

The US administration has “carefully reviewed” the issue and “will not make additional contributions to Unrwa,” spokeswoman Heather Nauert said. A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas later said the move was an “assault” against his people.

“Such a punishment will not succeed to change the fact that the United States no longer has a role in the region and that it is not a part of the solution,” Nabil Abu Rudeina told Reuters news agency.

He added that the decision was “a defiance of UN resolutions”.
