Halloween 2018 OPEN

by coldwarrior ( 126 Comments › )
Filed under Open thread at October 31st, 2018 - 1:33 pm

Ah, yes…celebration of the pagan fall ritual!

Every year my parents come down for Halloween and my Mom and Mrs Coldwarrior take the girls out trick or treating and Mom gets to visit with her old friends in town. They go 100% and come back with an amazing amount of loot.

I set up a bronze chimnea on the corner and have a nice fire for peeps to wram themselves by. Dad and I stand on the porch, smoke cigars, drink some booze and hand out candy whilst the women are out and about (aht n abaht in pittsburghese)

We will have a bowl of candy out and Fox TV on to scare the trick or treaters a little bit. All in good fun. Sean Hannity is really Santa Claus. He is just gearing up for the holidays.

I’d only been in my last apartment a few months probably when I had what might have been a poltergeist. I was living alone at the time. I walked down the hall, turned and took a single step when I was hit in the back with a penny. Nobody else was there, and it never happened again.

Mexico Deports Caravan Migrants Wanted for Murder, Drug Trafficking

Mexican law enforcement officials deported two migrants traveling in the caravan that is headed for the U.S. border as they are reportedly fugitives wanted for their roles in a triple murder and drug trafficking.

“The arrest took place as part of a joint effort between Mexico’s Federal Police and the National Migration Institute (INM) in conjunction with Interpol, Mexico’s Secretariat of the Interior said,” journalists Brandon Darby and Ildefonso Ortiz reported. “The two men were part of the migrant caravan from Honduras and requested permission to travel through Mexico.”

Mexican authorities — in coordination with Interpol and the Honduran National Police — arrested and deported Adin Josué “N,” 21, and Juan Carlos “N,” 47, who are respectively accused of drug trafficking and being involved in murdering three people.

But remember…there’s no evidence that there are any bad people in the “caravan”…

Here’s an interesting side piece to the Codvilla article Aussie posted.

    Democrats’ Hidden Civil War

What’s happening is that the energy in the Democratic Party now is coming from richer educated white liberals who are most motivated by issues that don’t resonate with the ethnic minorities who make up the Democratic base. For example, did you know that in the bellwether House race in which newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez unseated veteran incumbent Joe Crowley, the challenger’s strongest precincts were the whiter, wealthier ones, while the incumbent ran strongest in the most heavily minority precincts?

THANK YOU for the Codevilla essay from The American Mind! It’s EXACTLY what I have been looking for to help explain THE GRIM POLARITIES in U.S. and Canadian politics. It has families and friends at each others throats.

Codevilla describes the “Revolutionary Spiral” using History & chiefly starting with Woodrow Wilson. There are 4 Stages of the Spiral. (action and reaction) and we are at the 4th. He writes why this is no longer reversible if you agree with his model.

I had to read it more than once, so the brainiacs among you can dash it off.

    @ eaglesoars:

From ‘the democrats hidden civil war:

    “Democratic/Independent Liberal Elites”:

As a group, DILEs are younger, whiter, richer and better-educated than the rest of the country. Strikingly, it is the only cohort across the political spectrum not to rank jobs and the economy as a top priority, preferring the environment and climate change. Polls show that people like Winston’s DILEs are also far less religious and far more socially liberal than the rest of the Democratic Party on issues like abortion and LGBT rights. In evaluating candidates, these Democrats consider diversity, and hailing from outside the political establishment, hugely important.”

This is the Trudeau mantra. The stupidity of the NAFTA drawn out talks were an example of this rift. Trudeau does NOT reflect Canadians, but it’s different up here. There is no REAL Conservative to run against him. We work from the abysmal ‘Charter of Rights’ created by Trudope’s father Pierre. It’s a hodge podge of moral relativism. I don’t even remember it, so Eagle can’t ask me any questions.

President Trump’s first 3 children did not receive birthright citizenship

That is the CORRECTED headline. The correction reads

CORRECTION: The headline on this story has been corrected to show that Trump’s first three children did not receive birthright citizenship.

The Associated Press reviewed this story after it was surfaced to third-party fact checkers as part of an initiative with Facebook to assess the accuracy of news content.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: Mixture. It’s true that Ivana Trump was not a citizen until 1988, but the father of her children was a U.S. citizen and there would have been no special status needed to make them citizens.

My Garmin works with both systems

Au Contrair mate. Hughes Aerospace manufactured and installed the GLOSNASS GPS system.

It was the US System shorn of the three military only channels and only sporting the two commercial channels. Back 20 years ago when Dr. Kevin Parkinson (a Kiwi) found a way to counter the US Military ‘dithering channels’ (2 commercial channels that were deliberately de-tuned to make them less accurate to prevent using them to be used for targeting, by going around them and processing the dithered channels to make them much more accurate the US military was shocked to say the least. After a bit of denial they realised that eventually the Russians would also stumble on the secret they decided to un-dither the commercial channels that now became as accurate as the military channels and the GPS for everyone revolution was born.

True story. I was Kevin Parkinson’s best man!

Kevin got his doctorate at CalTech and also designed and partially built the Mars Rover soil scoop system, and the original Canadian facilitated system for transmitting pictures of Jupiter, Saturn and their moons, among a multitude of more Earth bound innovations. The covert ‘swampies’ amongst the full time administrators and bureaucrats who tell the talking head politicians what to say lest they cease to remain elected. The real question one should ask is who is pulling their strings.

The Swamp is both broad and very deep and has been in the making since the Civil War but especially over the last 50 years. It even runs in families and can be tracked if you really want to waste the time to do it. These born to rule elites seem to think that they have a god given right to rule and it shows. They come from BOTH sides of the political spectrum, which in the end is there to give the illusion of democratic choice to the plebs.

Alas I get cynical some times but with good reason.

    @ lobo91:

For those who might want a gander – here’s the complaint as filed in the USDC for the District of Columbia. You can read it here: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5026840/11-1-18-Pineda-v-Trump-Complaint.pdf

No doubt Justice counters with a 12(b)(6) motion to dismiss on several grounds – (1) that under international law, asylum must be requested at the FIRST country of arrival – which in most cases will be Guatemala but in other cases will be Mexico; (2) that they have no standing to sue as the case is not “ripe” for litigation – they cannot sue based on what is currently a hypothetical – that they will be denied asylum or entry – they are not here yet; and (3) the President has the constitutional right to secure the borders of the United States against invasion. As of now, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico are not considered “refugee” nations. You may have violence in your country, but that does not automatically entitle you to refuge in the United States. Ask the people of Chicago.

  87. 88 | November 2, 2018 10:09 am

    @ yenta-fada:

No, they do not have standing. But you watch. The court will issue the standard “case management conference” calendar, which it does with every lawsuit that is filed, and the media will immediately jump up and say “SEE?! The District Court believes the caravan has a CASE!!

The Court makes no such judgment. It will be the answering documents of the DOJ that will make the court decide whether they have a case or not. BTW, look for the DOJ to request an expedited hearing if they file the Motion to Dismiss.

Interesting background on one of the law firms who filed that lawsuit

    http://serpentrising.com/2018/11/02/shady-group-suing-trump-for-the-migrant-caravan-under-investigation-for-exploiting-illegals-for-money-relocated-parkland-fl-shooters-brother/

The suit was filed on their behalf by the law firm McFadden & Shoreman in Washington, Nexus Derechos Humanos Attoreys in Atlanta, and Williams Oinonen LLC in Atlanta.

[criminal history and political activity here]

But how does a firm that claims to do pro bono and charity work for the downtrodden get to such dizzy height of success? The answer is by using bonds in immigration, an immigration bond is different than in the state judicial system, where a person usually pays between 10 percent and 20 percent and offers something as collateral, typically real estate. In immigration court, the detainee has to raise the full amount of the bond and often doesn’t have collateral to entice a bondsman.

Nexus/Libre contracts with a bail bond company, which actually posts the bond required by the court. Libre then securitizes it by mandating that the client wear a GPS ankle monitor until his or her day in court or until they pay back at least 80 percent of the bond, after which they make arrangements on the terms for covering the rest. Here is the case of Victor (pseudonym) who was milked by Nexus/Libre and explains their cash cow modus operandi. The contract agreed to by Victor’s wife called for a payment of $3,880 up front.

This breaks down to $2,250 for the premium to the bonding company; $750 for a general consulting fee; and $880, split between $420 for the monthly GPS tracking and a $460 activation fee.

None of those charges goes towards paying down the $15,000 bond.

At $420 a month, the couple in the first year will have paid $8,920 for fees and the monitoring costs. After two years, when his court date is scheduled, they will have paid an estimated $13,905 in fees, insurance and a bond premium with none of it ascribed to the bond total. Now imagine having a steady flow of illegal aliens coming into this country, what does that do to their business? It is pure unmitigated boom market should the migrant caravan fall into the clutches of this company.

[insert fundraising for McAuliffe and moving Parkland shooter’s brother to Virginia]

Some months after the crash, there were some very shady lawyers in Miami and California who brought claims against the estates of four of the men who were killed, along with their families, in the crash. Apparently, they had all “fathered” children in Guatemala. It was preposterous, it was bogus, but lawyers saw a way to exploit it. Makes you ill.

I’ve found something at another source that says she said she is NOT the author of the Jane Doe letter. She READ the Jane Doe letter and then emailed the Committee and said she was the author to get some attention. I don’t know. I think she is the author and is now furiously backpedaling knowing she is in trouble.

I’ll bet she has long grey hair that looks like it’s been thru a jet turbine, is 45 pounds overweight, no makeup, never married, and is really angry because she missed out on being the kind of female the Kavanaughs of the world would ever consider suitable.
