Veteran’s Day is for the living

Memorial Day is for the dead.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

-Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae
Soldier, Physician, Poet

Salutes to all of our veterans. Marconi makes a different emphasis during the Armistice Commemorstion.
He takes the occasion to mischaracterize nationalism and attempt to embarrass our President.
    Frog gotta be a frog.

    @ Twitchy
Lt Commander Dan Crenshaw appears with Pete Davidson in a SNL segment last night.
He is allowed to fire back in the. same brand of humor.
To my mind this is a transparent attempt by SNL to rehabilitate itself and Davidson.
Should Crenshaw have participated in this? I know that he is the bigger man, but I would not have helped them.
    Maybe I am missing it.

yes it is. But that’s good. I saw an SNL person on Friday (I think) saying the crew was working on “a way to make this right”. They realized they fucked up.

    Not subtle

PARIS (AP) — World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, walked side by side next to the Arc de Triomphe to commemorate the end of World War I in a somber, rain-soaked line as bells finished tololing.

Arriving a few minutes late, they missed the exact moment to commemorate the armistice that ended World War I. Fighter jets passed overhead as the leaders walked to the Arc de Triomphe.

At 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918, the devastating war came to a close.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were expected to arrive separately for the commemorations.

The hagiographic treatment of the muslim brotherhood/hate whitey administration damned them forever as enablers of treason. Didn’t watch past a few minutes because not even funny. I’ve had enough smug finger wagging self righteousness in any of its permutations.

My Uncle Walter wrote home from the front. 19 years old in 1918, he saw a lot.

“We are in a camp near Auzeville and the big drive is to start. In fact the one that finished the ‘Boches’. Then the morning of the 26th dawned but dawn was preceded by a terrific barrage which was as loud as thunder and lighted up the whole skyline for miles. We were not flying ours but were held in reserve. Hundreds of “planes” were now flying over head. One bunch had over 150 in it.

Along about 8 a.m., along comes a boche plane and he burned three of the balloons all observers landed safe but one and his parachute burned and he fell to his death.

A fellow by the name of Barnett and I started out to see the fun. Put our guns on and started for the front line trenches which were about 5 miles north. After a short while we hit the trenches but of course our boys had advanced and were chasing the boche for a fare you well. We hit several mine craters where the boche had mined the roads but already our engineers had started to budge them. After another hour’s walk and dodging a few pieces of shrapnel we hit the town of Varennes and were keen for souvenirs. The boche were still in one side of the Varennes and we were in the other.

Machine guns were crackling with a steady roar and long streams of ambulances carrying away the wounded. Dead Boche were laying every where. The roads were filled with them. Long about then a Boche 77 took my ….. but never touched us. Then we started going through the dugouts and it was there that I got the general’s helmet. Also was almost lucky enough to capture a Jerry but a doughboy beat me to it. He was hiding in a dug out. Looked like he wasn’t as old as “Bugs” and he was scared almost to death.

After monkeying around a while we hopped an ambulance and rode back toward Auzeville. So that finished the day’s fun. But you ought to have seen the dead Huns. Some had legs blown off. Some had their heads and shoulders off and some were in pieces only. A great many had been burned by mustard gas and were burned to a crisp.”

I wish I was a Llama the rate I am growing hair I could be clipped every two weeks and I would be a very rich llama.

Oh, by the way, when I get my forever home I will be getting llamas to do the yard work.

Nearly did that for the five acres I had in Iowa.

He WAS sucking up to the Huns. He and Merkel looked as if they needed to go get a room!

Marine One was grounded and the threat level for surface transport for the President was such that obviously the SS had a ‘captain’s call’ and Trump stayed put, much to the chagrin of other heads of state. Macron’s categorising China, Russia AND THE US as potential future ENEMIES, went down like a lead balloon. Trump didn’t over-react but filed that major slight for payback later when Macron who is tottering on his heels as the Right in France prospers. Trump will slip the blade into Macron to finish him when the time comes. Revenge is always best eaten cold.

Germany can’t help Macron. Hungary, Poland and Italy are putting too much stress on the seams of the EU. But Trump won’t have to take him down, either, Macron will do that on his own, Trump will just watch.

The real flash points are, I think, going to be in Germany and I’m having a problem untangling that ungodly mess.

Hmmm… Very peculiar… Personally, I’m blaming it on some unknown obscure Australian former military guy… Probably Military Intelligence type… Don’t know who he is… But I bet his initials are A.I…

Well, Nostradamus did predict that Germany would start 3 world wars, and that in the third, the US and Russia would be allies. Not actually suggesting anything here, just saying that’s what the Nostradamus belly button gazers have been saying for decades, or centuries or whatever.

The missus went to turn the thermostat down yesterday. The air is dry due to the Santa Anas blowing through, so there’s a lot of static electricity.

She touched the digital thermostat and zapped it. Zapped it dead.

So I did what any red-blooded American guy would do. I pulled it apart, looked at it and stuck it back in.

    Now it works.

  32. 32 | November 11, 2018 9:34 pm

    @ doriangrey:
The Armistice of WWI didn’t resolve the conflict – it only allowed the Germans to rebuild their Wehrmacht to continue it 20 years later. WWI & WWII were the same war, but with a nap time.

What a Bunk… Broiling is for tough large chunks of meat. Not for Steak. A steak should be seared for 5 to 7 minutes (3 to 5 minutes if you like them rare) on each side, until the internal temp of 135 degrees is reached. Any more cooking and you’re just post-mortem torturing the poor cow.
