Observations From This Morning

Well, the wife’s armored monster Swedish-Death-Hammer Volvo needed a new battery. Easy enough. Went down to my local parts store and I didn’t recognize ANY of the faces behind the counter. My Parts Guys weren’t there! They had been replaced with new people. Probably taken up by the aliens, I bet. Yeah, that’s the ticket, aliens.

So I asked the cute 20-something female where were Joe and Andy? This is the answer that I got: Three of the guys who worked there got better jobs. One went to Royal Dutch Shell, one went to a construction company, and the other took an apprentice position with the electricians.

HELL YES! I thought to myself. Those are long-term, good pay, and great benefit gigs! Good for those guys!

Now my parts store is staffed by 20-something females…this should be interesting when I need some technical details, but I digress. The new manager is in her 50’s…these retail positions have been taken by young, new workers. This is excellent! The guys are on to bigger and better things. The fact that now the atore is staffed by females tells me something, men are back to work in men jobs. As it should be.

Item 2: There are billboards and radio spots all over for $35/hr full benefits from day one carpenters. electricians, and plumbers/HVAC people, START PAY. /S T A R T  P A Y/. That’s $72,800 a year WITHOUT OVERTIME. Helpers/Laborers go in at $23 an hour, that’s $42,800 a year WITHOUT OVERTIME. The tool and die / machine shops up north can’t get enough machinists and CNC operators, there aren’t anywhere near enough truck drivers, labor is getting scarce as the economy expands.

Item 3: The Union Halls for the Crafts are empty. There is NO ONE available to work…EVERYONE is out on jobs…Out on jobs IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER. This is unheard of.

So, tell me Nevertrumpers, how does economics work in your world?

so we should expect to see wage increases in the upcoming jobs numbers, I hope. They were there last month, but quite small, I assume because it takes a bit for job demand/supply to reverse course. Especially want to see a change in the ‘no longer looking for work’ category (what is that, the U6? I forget)

    @ eaglesoars:

It would be nice to see health insurance costs go down, or at least stop increasing by so much, too.

I just finished my 2018 benefit paperwork. Our premiums went up another 12.5% this years

Physicists have created what they say is the first device that’s capable of generating particles that behave as if they have negative mass.

The device generates a strange particle that’s half-light/half-matter, and as if that isn’t cool enough, it could also be the foundation for a new kind of laser that could operate on far less energy than current technologies.

This builds on recent theoretical work on the behaviour of something called a polariton, which appears to behave as if it has negative mass – a mind-blowing property that sees objects move towards the force pushing it, instead of being pushed away.

Now physicists from the University of Rochester have created a device that allows them to actually create these polaritons at room temperature.

I thought creating something with negative mass while at room temp was called an election, but what do I know?

Physicists Say They’ve Created a Device That Generates ‘Negative Mass’

and yes there will be upward wage pressure. the socialists over at the CoC and their nevertrump minions HATE THIS because that means that they are out of low skilled illegal immigrants who they can underpay and keep under complete control.

Economists Agree: Trump, Not Obama, Gets Credit For Economy

Who deserves credit for the booming economy? This is not a petty argument. How voters answer the question could well determine whether Democrats retake the House of Representatives come November.

Trump and Obama (and their admirers) are slugging it out, both claiming that it is their policies that have led to the ongoing economic expansion, steady job growth and higher stock prices.

Happily for President Trump, the pros agree with him. A recent survey of economists suggest it is President Trump, and not Obama, who should be taking a bow.

The Wall Street Journal asked 68 business, financial and academic economists who was responsible for the strengthening of the economy, and most “suggested Mr. Trump’s election deserves at least some credit” for the upturn.

A majority said the president had been “somewhat” or “strongly” positive for job creation, gross domestic product growth and the rising stock market.

The pros cite the White House’s push for lighter regulation and the recent tax bill as critical to a pro-growth environment; more than 90 percent of the group thought the tax bill would boost GDP expansion over the next two years.

ok, I’m the expert on anti-inflammatories a round here. When you take tumeric, try to take it w/black pepper. You don’t need a lot, like 1/20 of a teaspoon. But without it, there’s very little absorption. If that isn’t practical, a fat like olive, safflower or salmon oil – a good fat – will also do the trick. If I’m taking it in food, I add the pepper, if I’m dropping the capsules, I also drop the fish oil.

There is nothing strange about that force, nor the distance it acts within. Gravity does not actually exist. We call it gravity and pretend that it exists, because its much easier to explain then why space-time deforms in the presence of accelerating mass. You prolly did not so much slip and fall, as the earth accelerated in a slightly different direct then you anticipated it was going to. Then, the earth sneaked up on you and whacked you while you were temporarily distracted by the earth being in a ever so slightly different place than you expected it to be. (Basically the earth was playing tag with you, it just forgot to yell, “Tag” when it was your turn)

Tech Founder: Middle America Is A ‘Sh**hole’ With People Too ‘Violent, Stupid And Racist’ For New Jobs

One Silicon Valley executive had a few choice words to describe Americans living in the heart of the nation, and they were not flattering.

Melinda Byerley, MBA and founder of Timeshare CMO, a Silicon Valley-based tech start-up, tweeted out Saturday afternoon describing what middle America could do to “get more jobs in their area.”

Byerley says that the first thing those in middle America need to realize is that “no educated person wants to live in a shithole with stupid people.” Particularly, in a “shithole” filled with people who are “violent, racist, and/or misogynistic.” In Byerley’s opinion, “big corporations,” do not consider moving to the heart of America because “those towns have nothing going for them.”

    not very much unlike:

You must learn how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Pick a nice day and try it. The first part is easy. All it requires is the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight and the willingness not to mind that it’s going to hurt. That is, it’s going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground. If you are really trying properly, the likelyhood is that you will fail to miss the ground fairly hard.

Clearly, it is the second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties.

One problem is that you have to miss the ground accidentally. It’s no good deliberately intending to miss the ground because you won’t. You have to have your attention suddenly distracted by something else then you’re halfway there, so that you are no longer thinking about falling, or about the ground, or about how much it’s going to hurt if you fail to miss it.

It is notoriously difficult to prise your attention away from these three things during the split second you have at your disposal. Hence most people’s failure, and their eventual disillusionment with this exhilarating and spectacular sport.

If, however, you are lucky enough to have your attention momentarily distracted at the crucial moment by, say, a gorgeous pair of legs (tentacles, pseudopodia, according to phyllum and/or personal inclination), or a bomb going off in your vicinity, or by suddenly spotting an extremely rare species of beetle crawling along a nearby twig, then in your astonishment you will miss the ground completely and remain bobbing just a few inches above the ground in what might seem to be a slightly foolish manner.

This is interesting. It may be that the Aztecs were taken out by salmonella

Known to the locals as cocoliztli, the symptoms of the disease were horrific; they included red spots on the skin, bleeding from various orifices and vomiting.

A new study of ancient teeth has helped reveal that Aztec’s collapse may have been due to the food poisoning bug salmonella, to which the locals had no resistance.

I’m sure Kurt Eichenwald, who sold the stock for his kids’ college right after the election and encouraged everyone else to do likewise, is pleased

I have visions of that Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salmon who is shaking down all the royalty. The vision is they’re being hung by their heels in the lobby of the Ritz while being shaken and all the loose change is falling out of the shemaghs they wear on their heads. “Is that IT? Do we have to start cutting open your GOATS??”

off to the grocery store. Another winter advisory coming in.

This article says ‘former’ CIA agent, but not exactly when he left the agency.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer was arrested last night on charges of unlawful retention of national defense information.

Jerry Chun Shing Lee, aka “Zhen Cheng Li”, 53, was arrested after arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York. Lee, who is a naturalized United States citizen, currently resides in Hong Kong, China. According to court documents, Lee began working for the CIA as a case officer in 1994, maintained a Top Secret clearance, and signed numerous non-disclosure agreements during his tenure at CIA.

A case officer runs agents, I believe

According to court documents, in August 2012, Lee and his family left Hong Kong to return to the United States to live in northern Virginia. While traveling back to the United States, Lee and his family had hotel stays in Hawaii and Virginia. During each of the hotel stays, FBI agents conducted court-authorized searches of Lee’s room and luggage, and found that Lee was in unauthorized possession of materials relating to the national defense. Specifically, agents found two small books containing handwritten notes that contained classified information, including but not limited to, true names and phone numbers of assets and covert CIA employees, operational notes from asset meetings, operational meeting locations and locations of covert facilities.

They’ve let him run with this for 5 yrs, I hope this means no actual agents were in jeopardy because as sure as God made chickens, the Chinese intelligence services have this. I wonder why, after 5 yrs, they decided to bust him now. Perhaps they thought he was going to run.

The NYT has more on the Chinese guy the FBI arrested for spying. It’s devastating, we lost agents. Unfortunately, the death penalty for treason is in effect only during war.

More than a dozen C.I.A. informants were killed or imprisoned by the Chinese government. The extent to which the informant network was unraveled, reported last year by The New York Times, was a devastating setback for the C.I.A.

You have to, because you want to. I don’t want to, so I live somewhere where I do not have to. This is, what we in the scientific community call, a “causal relationship”. You understand causality, right? Good old fashioned “Cause and effect”?

The cause, is it snows where you live. The Effect, is you are stuck shoveling Globull Warming every year.

But, be of good cheer, since3 we are entering a new period of glaciation, soon you will not have to shovel any more globull warming. Not sure how you are going to deal with the 2 mile thick sheet of ice sitting on your house, but at least you won’t have to shovel any more globull warming.

Journos Unable To Accept Results Of Trump’s Physical Exam

White House doctor Ronny Jackson confirmed on Tuesday that President Trump is perfectly healthy, but reporters are accusing him of hiding something.

Journalists have long questioned the president’s mental health and fitness for office, but Dr. Jackson debunked any notion that Trump is unhealthy and called his mental health “excellent.”

However, reporters are still unwilling to accept that nothing is wrong with the president and have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure with Dr. Jackson’s assessment of Trump.

CNN’s Brian Stelter, who routinely talks about Trump’s fitness, wrote that Trump passing a cognitive exam has nothing to do with being “unfit.”

“Someone could be sharp as a tack, but still unfit,” Stelter claimed.

The stone from that last moraine has probably been used up as gravel surfacing highways. Time to get a replacement set of rocks.
