Weekend Open!

While I’ve been sick this past week I started reading this: Bully of Asia: Why China’s Dream is the New Threat to World Order, I am over half way through it. A good write-up can be had here. Give it to a Nevertrumper, Free-trade fool and help change a clouded and confused mind.

Enjoy the Weekend!

PS: Chairman Xi just abolished term limits so that he can stay in power for the rest of his life and the #Nevertrump are upset at Trump for leveling the playing the field on trade.

AND: This is required reading, because NAFTA is next

Well hell, I have a headache that has been hanging on for 3 days now, (Comes and goes) if it does not go away in the next day or 2 I guess I will have to go get my head examined. By the time they died all 3 of my siblings had brain cancer so headaches that are persistent tend to worry me.

watch this. Carl Icahn sold off a bunch of steel-related stock a week before Trump made his announcement. The reports are qualifying his name with “Trump’s friend”, implying he had inside info based on his friendship with Trump

Did anyone listen to Wilbur Ross at Davos mid-February? He could NOT have been more explicit that all this was going to be addressed. Anybody with half a brain would at least thought about a strategy if they held financial paper like that.

Think Mao in a western suit. Forget moderate, he’s an expansionist, we just deployed some ships to the South China Sea – again – because he’s acting up – again. Japan is getting increasingly nervous and the looming question is whether Trump will ok nukes for them.

I am fascinated by China, studied the language for a couple semesters in high school (my teacher’s name was Mr. Mandarin, believe it or not!). But with only one exception, everyone I have worked with from the mainland has suspicion bred into the bone, lying is 2nd nature and fear is the motivating emotion. And those are people who have lived in the west for a few years. That tells me a lot about the culture they were raised in. To some extent, it’s understandable. What they suffered under Japan an earlier under the White Devil is horrific. Even people raised in Taiwan are not immune. I had a woman on my team from there, Ming Li. If I thought someone’s resume looked promising, I’d pass it around for feedback. She returned one from a Michael Yamamoto, born and raised in Hawaii, with one word. No. What’s the problem? He’s Japanese. No, he’s American of Japanese descent, he’s never been to Japan as far as I can tell. She threatened to quit if I so much as brought him in for an interview. And she meant it.

    This stuff runs deep

Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans all hate one another. They have each invaded one anothers’ territories for centuries and committed horrible atrocities. None of them is immune from accusation. Given this, it is really amazing that Lil’ Kim and his country can be so close to China. Apparently Marxism is a deeper held than the ancestral animosities.

If you really want to piss off Japanese people, point out that DNA analysis shows that they descended from Koreans. They’ll vehemently deny it, but it’s true.

And it makes sense, if you think about it. Humans didn’t spontaneously appear on an island chain, after all. The had to have migrated there from someplace. And where’s the closest place they could have come from?

    The Korean peninsula.

heh. We live on a ‘pipestem’. A common driveway wit 4 houses, 2 on each side. When we first moved in, there was a Korean wife (american husband) living across the drive from a Japanese family that included the ancient grandmother.

So one day Qwong decided to have her entire extended family over to make kimchee from scratch and bury it in the yard to ferment.

I’m not sure exactly what set it off but by the time I realized the yelling I heard wasn’t coming from the TV and got outside, grandma was waving her sun umbrella like a club and the Korean ladies were pelting her with anything they could find on the ground.

I reminded them that Americans won the last war, the next war hasn’t been declared yet and anybody in the mood for a fight was going to have to go thru the American lady first.

funniest thing I ever saw. Qwong gave me some kimchee, too, which I love.

Well, my day seems somehow better now…

Kenya doctors ‘perform brain surgery on wrong patient’

Staff from nurses to the CEO have been suspended at a Nairobi hospital after the wrong patient underwent brain surgery.

One patient needed surgery for a blood clot on the brain, the other only non-invasive treatment for swelling.

But a horrifying mix-up of identification tags saw the wrong man operated on, reports say.

The doctors did not realise their mistake until “hours into the surgery”, the Daily Nation reported.

They then realised “there was no blood clot”.

The patient who was operated on is recovering, the hospital says, and an investigation is under way. Regulators have demanded a report and plan to hold a hearing.

Social media users have expressed shock that such an incident could have been allowed to happen.

It comes only six weeks after the health minister ordered an investigation into claims new mothers were sexually assaulted at the same hospital.

Ok, it is time foe “RIX MOVIE REVIEW!!!!!!
Just got back from seeing Death Wish with Bruce Willis. My wife did not come with me because she does not
like violent movies and I assured her that this is.
It is loosely based on the old Charles Bronson movie but more intense.
I won’t spoil it for you but the story is about a doctor living with his wife and daughter on Chicago’s North Shore.
He is at the ER when some thugs break in to rob the place while his wife and soon to be a college freshman daughter
    are home.
Things go sideways and the Willis character administers justice over and over and over.
There is a lot of blood, but it fits is not gratuitous and fits the plot.
I recognized a lot of the locations. See this move. Imo it is great, but not something that Hollywood gives awards to.

Yeah, I read that it was a paranoid fantasy or something. Actually it was not politically correct, and everyone
in the theatre got it. The problem libs have with the movie is that the culprits are not white supremacis, or

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said on “Fox News Sunday” that Chris Wallace’s question about infighting in the White House was a “cheap shot.”

“Some White House senior staff accuse you of guerilla warfare, saying that you sneak around the West Wing and go into the Oval Office and run around policy meetings to personally lobby the president and that, frankly, a number of senior staff were surprised when the president made this announcement on Thursday,” Wallace said during an interview with Navarro on Sunday, referring to President Trump’s recently announced tariffs.

“How do you plea?” Wallace asked.

“I would say that sitting here on Sunday with you, that’s a bit of a cheap shot, that there is no facts and evidence to support that,” Navarro responded.

Colorado Lawmaker Switches Parties After Being Ousted As Democrat On Sexual Misconduct Allegations

A Colorado state Democratic lawmaker was expelled Friday amid allegations by female colleagues about sexual harassment or abuse — but not before switching political parties.

Rep. Steve Lebsock was expelled by a 52-9 vote after five female state House members took their turns at the podium to come forward as victims of sexual harassment or abuse.

Democrat Rep. Faith Winter and four other women accused Lebsock of harassment and intimidation inside the Capitol and at area bars and restaurants.

Lebsock bitterly contested the claims, saying his accusers were lying and accusing an independent investigator of bias in concluding that the claims were credible.

He becomes the second U.S. state lawmaker to be expelled since the #metoo movement emerged last fall. Last month, Arizona state Republican Rep. Don Shooter was expelled over misconduct claims; a California state senator resigned before colleagues tried to formally expel him amid sexual-misconduct allegations.

Lebsock’s change of party will not end Colorado Democrats’ House majority. State Republicans can name his replacement, but they are purportedly considering passing on that privilege, which gives the task to Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Their decision not to name a replacement is said to be related to Lebsock being a Democrat when allegedly committing such abuses.

Good morning. Did you watch the Oscars last night? We watched two episodes of the Walking Dead to try to
catch up on the new season. There was one hour of the Awards left so why not?
It eas about what I expected, nothing but Social Justice. It seemed like leaving the Walking Dead for the
Brain Dead. One segment was a woman singing and the rapper Common layin down da word. He rapped against the NRA and then went on to the country belongs to immigrants like from Africa, Haiti and Puerto Rico.
I do not think that this genius understands that Puerto Rican’s are Americans, not immigrants.

  88. 89 | March 5, 2018 9:28 am

    @ RIX:

Rush goes on his show once a year and Rush fans always go after Wallace for constantly interrupting him when he tries to answer. Wallace gave as an excuse that “he wanted to move the conversation along.”

Well here’s a thought dumbass – make the segment longer. You aren’t fooling anybody.

Oh, I don’t know if anyone caught Mark Levin’s 1-hour interview with Devin Nunes on his new show on Fox last night. EXCELLENT. Learned a few things I didn’t already know. I just wish I could remember one of them this morning to bring something of interest to the table here.

And sympathies on feeling ill, CW – that was me from Wednesday to now. Still feel like crap but have major stuff to do today.

Chris Wallace is a fraud, there is nothing objective about him. He badgered Peter Navarro to the point
of rudeness. Then speaking to a former Bush adviser who repudiated Trump and Navro, he was very
    respectful with no interruptions.

    @ RIX:

Fox could lose him, Shep Smith and that idiot Blonde from Fox and Friends any time. I watch OAN news now anyway, but I enjoy Levin’s new show, as it’s a one-hour interview format and therefore perfect for watching in the a.m. Monday morning getting ready for work, since no visuals involved.

  96. 97 | March 5, 2018 10:11 am

    @ RIX:

Early reports are that the Oscars are down something like 15% in viewership from LAST year, when it had dropped something like 16% from the previous year. Usually the final rating for the Oscars is calculated by about noon. Right now it is on par to be the lowest Oscar broadcast ever, beating the record set when Jon Stewart hosted them in 2008. Kimmel has cost the Oscars overall about 30% drop in ratings. I have a feeling he will not be asked back next year.

Loved seeing that “The Post” apparently didn’t win a single award (unless it won one of the minor awards no one cares about). Typically, if I recall correctly, a HIT move takes about 9-10 months after it leaves the theaters to get to On Demand and DVD and then another 6-9 months before the premium movie channels get it.

I will predict “The Post” is on DVD by May 1st and on HBO/Showtime by Halloween.

I don’t know that the problem is Kimmel and if these people cared about ratings, Brian Steltzer would be asking people if they’d like fries with their order. Their’s is a culture of smug ignorance and nothing is going to make it palatable or relevant to most people

    @ eaglesoars:

Think how much we looked forward to Bob Hope and Johnny Carson hosting the Oscars – sure there were the occasional political jokes, but they were never mean spirited. And Vanessa Redgrave got her ass kicked by Paddy Chayefsky when she tried to make it so. Oh, and George C. Scott and Brando refusing their Oscars of course, the latter sending up Sacheen Littlefeather in full native dress and acting a fool.

Also Billy Crystal. The BEST part of his hosting was the opening song where he incorporated all the best picture nominees. He packed more “clever” into just ONE of those 7-minute songs than all of the hosts subsequent to him packed into their entire shows, COMBINED

    @ eaglesoars:

SSRI = Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors:

    Citalopram (Celexa)
    Escitalopram (Lexapro)
    Fluoxetine (Prozac)
    Paroxetine (Paxil, Pexeva)
    Sertraline (Zoloft)
    Vilazodone (Viibryd)

About 3 percent of those aged 15-24 who were prescribed these drugs had a violent crime conviction that appears to be linked to their taking the drug — a rate approximately double that of the next age cohort and double that of someone not consuming the drug at all. There was no statistical increase, however, in older patients.

Considering the seriousness of violent offenses and the fact that this measures only convictions (and we know not everyone who does something evil is caught or convicted), this is a huge increase in risk.

This is especially so when you combine it with the above study, which appears to show that at least one of the drugs in this class is not effective in patients of this age group.

We’ve long known that the brains of children and adolescents react differently to certain drugs than adults. Look at ritalin, which we give to “hyperactive” children. Ritalin is actually a stimulant, but it has the opposite effect on children.

It’s probably time to start looking at whether SSRIs should be given to adolescents at all.

Of course he and that equally insufferable lout Cameron Kasky (he was the snot who was so overly dramatic talking to Rubio) were on “Real Time with Bill Maher (I guess you’re nobody till you’re on HBO). And get this. Kasky says, essentially that he couldn’t get over people saying the right to bear arms as a defense “as though it was a right you were born with.”

Maher countered. “It is if you’re an American.”
