Friday Arrogant Bastard Wrath Open

Filed under Beer of the Week, Food and Drink, Friday Cigar, Open thread at March 23rd, 2018 - 6:13 pm

Screw this weather. I just opened a large Stone Brewery Arrogant Bastard (at 55f)

At Arrogant Brewing, we believe that pandering to the lowest common denominator represents the height of tyranny—a virtual form of keeping the consumer barefoot and stupid. Brought forth upon an unsuspecting public in 1997, Arrogant Bastard Ale openly challenged the tyrannical overlords who were brazenly attempting to keep Americans chained in the shackles of poor taste. Since the very beginning, Arrogant Bastard Ale has reveled in its unprecedented and uncompromising celebration of intensity. There have been many nods to Arrogant Bastard Ale…even outright attempts to copy it…but only one can ever embody the true nature of Liquid Arrogance!

and lit a Wrath Habano Churchill cigar…a great smoke by the lads at Oliva

and am cooking Carne Asada as taught to me buy the sage of San Diego.

It is warm somewhere and the sun is shining in my heart, where it counts.

DAMN THIS GLOBAL WARMING!!!!

If it were the 50 degrees they tell me it is, my hardy beagle puppy would be able to tolerate 10 mins on the deck. She lasts 2 before shivers set it. Even Willow, the chunky matron, is sick of it.

Beagles are not huskies or malamutes by any stretch, but they’re not yorkies either and when they don’t want to be outside, it sucketh.

I’m seeing some speculation that funding for the wall is actually hidden in the military budget as a sneaky move by Trump. To be built by Army Corps of Engineers.

I don’t know the origin of this, I’m just seeing people talking about it.

    hmmm…

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3641992/posts

It’s not an official ‘Federal Budget’. It’s an Omnibus bill…not a Budget…He outsmarted them again…Congress basically screwed themselves by not passing a Budget…

Per the Constitution…the President must adhere to a Budget set forth by Congress and direct the expenditures as provided therein.

This is another one of those big Porkulus Bills, like they gave Obama for 8 years. This is not a Budget..

An Omnibus Spending Bill may have some ‘instructions’ as to how the money will be spent…but Obama ignored them. He spent the money, or didn’t spend it, however he wanted to.

And Congress didn’t do a thing about it! Because they couldn’t..

I think our President observed how this happened, year after year. He is bound to realize that those ‘appropriations’ for different things in these Omnibus bills…are merely ‘suggestions’.

So like Obama, Pres Trump can spend this money on whatever he wants to. Or…not spend it.

Planned Parenthood? What if our President decided to tell the Treas Dept to ‘slow-walk’ that money to Planned Parenthood…until the Senate gets off their ass and confirms his appointees?

Sanctuary Cities? What if our President decided to ‘slow-walk’ that money too…until those Sanctuary Cities assist ICE in rounding up criminal illegal aliens?

Splodey heads? From the Dems and the Enemedia? Why yes. There would be a colorful display of splodey heads.

But what could they do about it. Hah.

Our President could just say…’What! Congress should’ve passed a Budget.’

done finished…research was done…and it is so very humorous actually….our VSG..just said just give me money for the military and the wall…put anything else you want in it…and those goofballs did.

In this case, as per above….he doesn’t have to spend a dime….because it is not a budget…and even if it was…researched….he could still spend as he please… Congress appropriates….up to the President to spend it…or not….as he pleases..
Again, that is why Obama never had a Budget in his Presidency…Congress did continual Omibus’s and he just took the money….for 8 years…and no one seems to know where it went…

According to this, had congress not lifted the cap, military budget would be maxed at $549 bil. Trump got $650 bil, and extra $100 bil

    23.8 for 14 ships
    10.2 for 90 fighter planes
    1.8 for 24 f/18 planes

    That’s $35.8 so far. Continuing –

    11.5 for missile defense
    1.6 Apache choppers
    1.1 Blackhawks
    34.4 family/health

That’s 48.6 bil for about 85.4 bil total (check my math I still have my socks on). That leaves 14 bil unaccounted for of the extra $100 bil. So – the wall?

An interesting comment from an article at the Daily Mail about today’s march

I learned yesterday from a cat [car?] full of students talking on the Metro that what this article doesn¿t say, is that a lot of these youngsters were offered an all expense paid trip to DC on the condition that they attend the march – they went on to say they don¿t care about the march but they are getting out of school for 5 days with no penalty to be here so they accepted the trip

NFL’s Patriots Donate Team Plane For March For Our Lives Pro-Gun Control Rally

Robert Kraft is rolling with the Resistance.

The owner of the New England Patriots gave his support to Saturday’s #MarchforOurLives pro-gun control rally by lending the team’s official plane to students and families in Parkland, Fla. who wanted to attend the Washington, D.C. event, the Boston Globe reports.

Stacey James, a spokesperson for the team, told the Globe that the families of some of the victims of last month’s school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, along with some students who were injured, were flown to the nation’s capital on Thursday.

James said Kraft made the decision to support the protest after being contacted by former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly.

    Here’s the thread

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3641992/posts

scroll down to comment #9 by ‘BlessedBeGod’

This is a rolled up twitter thread by Larry Schweikart that explains the obstacles of ‘authorize’ and ‘appropriate’. A quick look:

    —————

    3) First, there is the “Authorization” process. The House, then the Senate . . .

    3) contd: . . . AUTHORIZE every department and agency to spend up to a certain amount of money. Think of this as giving your kid permission to spend the money in his piggy bank.

    4) The APPROPRIATIONS process then actually allocates how much of that authorized $ can be spent.

    5) So, you “authorize” your kid to spend $10 . . . but there is nothing in the piggy bank to spend. Then you put in $5 that you have “appropriated.” He still can only spend $5, because that’s all that has been appropriated.

    6) Departments turn in their budgets yearly.

    6) contd. Typically, Congress does what’s called “baseline budgeting,” wherein they assume a department starts with LAST year’s budget #s, and Congress works up from there. (another reason for constant deficits).

    7) “Zero-based” budgeting would require a dept be reviewed . . .

    7) contd. . . . annually with new hearings. Actually, as much as we hate “baseline,” it would be almost impossible to run any government of any size on “zero.” But a five-year zeroing out would be reasonable.

    8) So, DoD gets its budget:

    8) contd. You have $xm for tanks, $ym for planes, $zm for pay.

DoD CANNOT willy-nilly just “move” money from tanks to planes. That hasn’t been AUTHORIZED.

    —————-

This is why rain and I did the ‘nevermind’ thing

    @ eaglesoars:

Correct. And this “omnibus” bill is the appropriation side of it, not the authorization side.

There are supposed to be 13 different appropriations bills each year, that fund different activities/departments. The “omnibus” rolled them all into one big bill, on a “take it or leave it” basis. When you have the separate bills, if the president objects to something in, say, the Agriculture Department’s bill, Congress can’t use the military funding as a hostage.

  67. eaglesoars
    67 | March 24, 2018 11:59 am

    @ coldwarrior:

as far as the 6 mos time limit is concerned, that seems to be a Paul Ryan misleading ‘item’. According to Dave Bratt, the Senate added a clause that they won’t be doing a budget ‘next time’. But I don’t know what ‘next time’ means. Next year? what?

NO department is obligated to spend the money it’s been authorized to spend, including the executive.

As for the wailing, gnashing of teeth, blah blah blah. Time to grow the fuck up. We are in the middle of a political coup attempt. The enemy is not at the gates, they are in the stables, armory and treasure vaults. And even if we weren’t, we have to continue to de-reg the economy, build up the military and all the other things Trump wants to do – and is doing. I’m not in the business of cutting off my nose to spite my face, I play the hand I’m dealt and get on with it. People who want to go to the fainting couches in the vapors over ‘betrayal’ need to stay there when the shooting starts, because my aim ain’t that good.

every year i plant tomatoes that i grow from seeds that i got from the old italians who came ‘off the boat’ a a hundred or so years ago. i’ve been using the same italian seeds for almost 30 years. today i transplant the seedlings from the trays to the bigger pots.

so, where am i going with this? i start them on the same day every year. feb 15 or so. next year I am going to have to start them later because for the past few years it has not been warm enough to get them in the ground when they are ready and this causes a logistical and space and light problem.

also, my japanese cherry trees are blooming later each year as well.

Of course you’ll find the most total and complete overreactions on conservative-leaning websites.

I just keep reminding myself that the majority of Trump’s voters AREN’T these people.

“I’m never voting for Trump again!!!!!!” seems common online today. This is an emotional overreaction.

The only thing I worry about is the belief by some who admit to voting for Trump but liked “someone else.”

I keep asking them to name the “someone else” and they can’t. Even people that would have preferred Cruz seem to have figured out that he can’t win in this climate.

What I’m done voting for is someone who is nominated on principles but doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of winning.

Until they come up with this magical candidate, I’m with Trump, who has done a hell of a lot of good.

As uncomfortable as it sounds, there’s also a fatigue factor to consider.

The attacks on the man from thousands of influential people every single day (some from “inside the building”) has got to be unprecedented in modern history.

It’s not an excuse, as I doubt Trump would ever admit even to himself that it’s working away at him, but there has to be an effect. He’s human.

A little support for the man himself (and not just the odd proposal they like) from the GOP congress would be nice, but you can count them on two hands.

Interview here in about an hour with Royal Caribbean. Pays better than what I’m making now, but not a lot. You can make bonus though. After a year, you get a year to take a cruise, space available. Of course you cover the excursions & transportation and any cabin upgrades. I’d kind of like to go to Alaska, and for that I’d want a balcony.

The big one is on Monday at the power company which would be the 38% raise. That’s the one I really want!

I just found out the other day too that as a seasonal quality evaluator, I’m making less than the seasonal Team Leader who is making less than the permanent Team Leads.

That gives me another reason to get the h-ll out of that place.

The Park Service has moved back the date for the cherry blossoms here because of the weather. And once again, they told me it was 43 outside but the water in my bird batch hadn’t even begun to thaw. I had to go out there with a pail of hot water to melt it and give my birds their little spa.

Yes, it’s real. It’s tempting to dismiss him on the grounds of his age. That would be a mistake. He’s an evil spawn and it’s time to treat him as such. If the gun control issue hadn’t fallen into his lap, it would have been something else.

Given the amount of physic’s I have studied over the years, I cannot begin to express just how much I have come to hate that question. It is not the question most people think it is. In reality, that question is. “Should destroy the entire Universe on Monday at 2pm, or on Wednesday at 4pm?”

This question only exists, because most humans have a frighteningly poor grasp of a concept in physic’s known as “Causality”. Physic’s 101 here; Effect never ever proceeds Cause.

    But… You said… Destroy the Universe…

Yes, I did. And that is exactly what would happen if you went back in time and changed even one single event in history, let alone a major event like the life of Adolph Hitler.

Imagine if you can. 60 to 200 million people whose deaths were a direct result of WWII suddenly no longer being dead. For the second Hitler died prematurely the entire Universes time line would have to change. What had previously been history would instantly cease to exist. And with it, the entire Universe. Poof, gone just like that.

Would a brand new universe appear in its place? Would it matter? The odds of you being here to not even be aware that the Universe had suddenly completely changed is somewhere on the order of 1 to 1 times 10 to the minus 17. You actually have a better chance of winning the lottery 100 times in a row and your odds of doing that are only about 1 x 10 -7.
