Greetings from ‘Up North’!

Welcome to the Kentucky Derby 2018 Open Thread. This will mark the 37th year in a row that I have watched the race on tv. For the longest time, even in the military and living out of the country, I have never missed this race. I don’t care about horses, horse racing, or betting on horses. I have zero interest in all things equine. But this statistical anomaly has recently fascinated me. I havent’s missed this race since Jr High School because I have always quite randomly been in front of a TV that was showing the race live. This has occurred in Berlin, Kenya, Ireland and Israel and at home here in the States with no effort on my part.

For the longest time I never noticed this occurrence. Then it struck me. What are the odds of randomly and without effort being in front of a TV showing a once a year horse race every year for 37 years?

Of course, over the past decade or so I have made it a point to watch to keep the string going, and now this has become an event at my parent’s. Mom is a horse person. Yinz know how they are. This started by me bringing up my girls to G’Ma’s to wear great hats and watch the race. Well, has this little event grown.

Now, G’ma has more or less commandeered the local country bar up the road to host this event that now draws 50 or so friends and neighbors. It’s a great little joint with good food and they are long time friends with the owners and staff from well before the place re-opened under their care. G’Ma has fashioned the most elegant hats for the girls and Mrs Coldwarrior. These are really fancy and would do well at Churchill Downs. She has the special cups and ingredients for mint juleps ready to go and has schooled the bartender on the proper mixology for this icon. All women are to be in dresses and hats and all men are to be in proper attire with a hat as well to attend. This event has grown too big for their property, and that is saying something!

I will be wearing one of my Cubavera shits, linen pants, and a classic Sam Snead Porkpie hat procured at the Village Hat Shop in San Diego. I will be bringing a box of Drew Estates Liga Privada for cigars on the deck after the race.

More on the horses later! Enjoy this open!

Without actually doing the math? I would guess, 1×10^3 to 1…

    Good Morning everyone!
UPDATE: Round 9 starts today. Two days ago I had my full-body CT scan (which I should have had after Round 6, but the oncologist’s office had some scheduling errors), the results of which I will know this coming Tuesday.
I will also meet with my cardiologist first. So yeah, it’s gonna be a busy few days….pray for me. Thanks.

Oh the Fifth Column Treasonous Marxist Mainstream Media panties are in a twist…

    https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/03/sinclair-broadcast-challenge-to-fox-news-566757

Sinclair is a “Conservative” media outlet. When I say “Conservative” I mean, that it is targeted at “Conservatives” rather than liberals. How conservative Sinclair really is, is anyone’s guess, though…

Sinclair, which owns local news stations across the country, has stirred controversy by forcing its stations to air conservative “must-run” commentary, and the company sparked outrage at the end of March by requiring local news anchors to read a promotional script that echoed lines from President Donald Trump bashing the media.

“If you want to stunt or counter the narrative that you’re going to outflank Fox on the right, you start trying to convince people you have some good talent on the reportorial side,” the agent said.

Something to think about, as this Policico fear mongering piece masquerading as objective reporting makes it pretty clear that the left is very unhappy about the prospective of a media outlet to the right of middle of the road FoxNews scares the bejebus out of them.

Hmmm… Diversity… Perhaps, just maybe, it’s because Black America has a cultural prejudice against education? STEM jobs, are not going to be handed out based on numerical diversity quota’s. You either know the math and engineering, or you do not. The color of your skin simply is not going to get you a job as a electrical engineer if you do not having the electrical engineering education.

The Derby is the best two minutes in sports. I don’t know anything about these horses , so have to bone up.

I’ll agree with that assessment except for ONE exception. Those 2:24 of Secretariat running the Belmont. I never ever tire of watching that. During the movie I cried and hell, I KNEW how it was going to end.

I watch the Derby but frankly I can’t think why they need a three-hour lead up to it, but it’s NBC and they haven’t got anything else much going for them.

Yeah, the lead up gets tedious. And they have to feature celebrities that are there to get noticed.

Ana Navarro is a brutally painful example of just how right Sen Joseph McCarty really was. Yea… I know, now you are wondering what the hell ole dorian is ranting about now.

Its simple. McCarthy pointed out that Marxists were infiltrating America’s governmental bureaucracies and fundamental institutions (Education, Religion, Arts, Media and Legal system) As they infiltrated, they became the “Gate Keepers”.

Marxist infiltrators decided who gained political asylum and who didn’t. Ana Navarro’s parents were Marxists fleeing a Marxist purge in Nicaragua, permitted entrance into America by Marxist fellow travelers within America’s State Department.

Many of you have fumed over the fact that so many Muslim refugees from war torn middle eastern Islamic countries have been granted refugee status here in the US while Arab/Middle Eastern Christians are rejected refugee status and slaughtered.

Well, McCarthy had your answer all along. Its the political version of “Follow the Money”. When you have corrupt “Gate Keeper’s”, they are going to let in who benefits their agenda, and bar anyone who threatens their agenda.

To understand what their agenda is, you only need to see who they are admitting, and who they are baring.

U.S. judge questions special counsel’s powers in Manafort case

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Reuters) – A federal judge on Friday sharply criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s criminal case in Virginia against President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, and openly questioned whether Mueller exceeded his prosecutorial powers by bringing it.

“I don’t see what relationship this indictment has with anything the special counsel is authorized to investigate,” U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis in the Eastern District of Virginia said.

At tense hearing at the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, the judge said Mueller should not have “unfettered power” in his Russia probe and that the charges against Manafort did not arise from the investigation into Moscow’s alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

    []

He also asked the special counsel’s office to share privately with him a copy of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosentein’s August 2017 memo elaborating on the scope of Mueller’s Russia probe. He said the current version he has been heavily redacted.

CNN: Judge in Manafort case says Mueller’s aim is to hurt Trump

You don’t really care about Mr. Manafort’s bank fraud,” District Judge T.S. Ellis said to prosecutor Michael Dreeben, at times losing his temper. Ellis said prosecutors were interested in Manafort because of his potential to provide material that would lead to Trump’s “prosecution or impeachment,” Ellis said.
“That’s what you’re really interested in,” said Ellis, who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan.
He repeated his suspicion several times in the hour-long court hearing.

‘Come on, man!’: A federal judge cast cast serious doubt on Mueller’s case against Manafort and suggested he’s using it to get Manafort to flip

But Ellis reportedly wasn’t buying it, characterizing the special counsel’s office’s argument as: “We said this was what investigation was about, but we are not bound by it, and we were lying. Come on, man!”

    @ eaglesoars:

Mueller’s appointment was a complete violation of the Special Counsel statute to begin with. He was not charged with investigating a specific crime. I’d haul Rosenstein in front of that judge as well and ask him what CRIME was in the initial charge to Rosenstein and where he gave Mueller authority to go beyond the scope of his charge. Because Mueller CANNOT do this without Rosenstein’s okay.

And while I was at it, Ellis should ask Mueller what the hell was going on in the Southern District.

Yep – Cohen’s the Southern District.
And the IG’s report is due to drop very, very soon. Depending on the rumor you’re listening to, it’s coming in within the week.

What is going to be interesting is this: If the “scope” of the charging memo is to uncover Russian interference in the election, Mueller has nothing and has not even investigated this. If it is “collusion” with Russia on the election, if I’m Ellis, I’m asking him why he isn’t asking questions about the Dossier financed by the Democrats and used to get a FISA warrant.

As for the ‘scope’ memo, what if Rosenstein wrote an open-ended directive? “…and wherever it may lead” type thing?

We are all screwed in that case.

  39. 40 | May 4, 2018 1:34 pm

    @ eaglesoars:

I don’t think you can write a scope memo that is open ended. I believe the statute requires investigation into a SPECIFIC crime. Of course, we know there was no crime of collusion so it was faulty from the start. He can only go into other areas at the directive of the DOJ. Meaning, he would have needed specific PERMISSION to investigate Manafort’s supposed bank fraud. If he had no such permission, he’s going to have to explain to the judge under what authority he pursued this line of inquiry.

And as has been pointed out, Sessions is only recused vis-a-vis anything pertaining to Russian interference or collusion and so Rosenstein had no authority to expand without Sessions’ permission. Of course, who the hell is following the rules anymore?

But it’s fun watching the liberals scream BIAS at this judge after all the Obama appointees reached to the bottom of the barrel to find standing to rule on the travel ban.

It’s the Comey firing that makes me suspicious. Comey is fired after Rosenstein writes a memo recommending such action. And then Rosenstein take the lead in appointing a special counsel regarding Russian collusion, the ONE isuse that Sessions has recused himself on. And Comey’s firing was supposedly the catalyst for the Special Counsel appointment.
And then he appoints Mueller, Comey’s bosom buddy.

That 5.4 million number, by the way, is just the number that the NRA will admit receive the paid for NRA monthly publication. Unofficial sources within the NRA have said that it significantly under-represents the actual number of NRA members. The unoffical number I have seen, is somewhere around 14.5 million. Just sayin…

  56. 57 | May 4, 2018 4:12 pm

    @ doriangrey:

If true, you have 14.5 million people dedicated to the right to own firearms who have never used them in an illegal manner. Meanwhile, Everytown and MSNBC are still chomping at the “hypocrisy” of the firearm ban while Trump and Pence were speaking.

Now they’re new tac is “I guess the Secret Service doesn’t consider armed NRA members a ‘safe environment.'”

Let me enlighten you twits. If Trump and Pense were speaking at a military installation, the Secret Service would impose the same rules.

Oh, believe me, so have I. But seldom as much as my telling them, if you believe that McCarthy was wrong, or unfairly smearing people, the degree that you believe that directly corresponds to how deeply you have been indoctrinated into Marxism without you even knowing it. Now that really pisses people off.

I always love springing on people that the Venona Papers proved McCarthy was absolutely right.

And it’s always a fun exercise when libturds that know zilch about the period of McCarthy to blame HIM for the Hollywood Blacklist, etc. You have to remind them that it was the HOUSE UnAmerican Activities Committee and McCarthy was a Senator. Even then, they don’t make the connection.

Yeah, that’s the argument that always gives me a headache. They absolutely can’t get it out of their head that he did the Hollywood Blacklist. No matter how many times you hit them with the truth they still argue otherwise. When you try to explain the Venona papers they give you a blank stare.

DOJ inspector general’s testimony postponed, amid new leads in Clinton case review

Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s widely anticipated testimony next week before the House Oversight Committee has been postponed, as the Justice Department IG has pursued new leads in his review of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, according to a congressional letter and sources familiar with the matter.

“It is of the utmost importance that your review be as fulsome, complete and unimpeded as possible,” Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman of the committee, wrote in a recent letter to Horowitz obtained by Fox News.

WASHINGTON — John Kerry’s bid to save one of his most significant accomplishments as secretary of state took him to New York on a Sunday afternoon two weeks ago, where, more than a year after he left office, he engaged in some unusual shadow diplomacy with a top-ranking Iranian official.

He sat down at the United Nations with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to discuss ways of preserving the pact limiting Iran’s nuclear weapons program. It was the second time in about two months that the two had met to strategize over salvaging a deal they spent years negotiating during the Obama administration, according to a person briefed on the meetings.

Horrible service, when you had a problem, you would get their automated system with a dumb@$$ voice that would ask for your problem, then play something supposedly sounding like it was spinning a wheel or something, then it would come back and say, “We aren’t finding any problems on our end”. … When I canceled, they asked why I hadn’t called for service when it was acting flaky. /aargh!

Reality doesn’t conform to the needs of my pathology, therefore it is an ‘outlier’

This week’s Reuters/Ipsos Core Political release presents something of an outlier of our trend. Every series of polls has the occasional outlier and in our opinion this is one
    []
The Reuters/Ipsos Core Political poll has a significant realignment this week across a number of metrics. Most pronounced is President Trump’s approval rating which currently sits at 48% with all Americans. His number with registered voters is essentially the same at 49%. Corresponding with Trump’s stronger approval rating, evaluations of his job performance across the board are stronger this week from 57% approving of his handling of the economy to 44% approving of the way he treats people like them. On the generic congressional ballot, our current poll shows a +5-point advantage for Democrats, the smallest lead we’ve seen in recent weeks.

    @ Chicago Sun Times
If you watched SNL last night like I did you saw this opening skit. The reporter is positively oragasmic, but the thing
was tedious and annoying. Baldwin does a grotesque impression and the whole thing was totally predictable.
The kicker was that Stormy Daniels was played by…….. wait for it…… Stormy Daniels!
The lib audience lapped it up clapping like trained seals , laughing uproariously. Had to change the channel.
Not much on at that hour on a Saturday night.

Mueller Probe Might Have to Go Dark for Midterm Election

Though there is no legal deadline, Justice Department guidelines say prosecutors should avoid the appearance of trying to sway elections

How do you respond to such idiocy?

Excuse me for butting in, but it’s a straw man argument and you NEVER respond to it as tho it had merit – i.e., disproving it – you counter with a TRUTHFUL statement. As the one you noted implies racism, I would start with a history lesson about gun control and it’s racist roots. Try this:

Jim Crow Laws Were the Foundation of Gun Control in America—and The Ku Klux Klan Was America’s First Gun Control Group

The Racist Roots of Gun Control

Read it. Memorize a few key points: in the infamous Dred Scott decision, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney announced that free blacks were not citizens; if they were, he warned, free blacks would have the right “to keep and carry arms wherever they went.”

That truly is the $64,000.00 dollar question since 90% of those you might be interested in enlightening posses both a profound desire and an vested interest in not being educated with regard to the truth.

The History and mission statement of the NRA would be a good start were you dealing with honest rational people, however since you most likely are not there is little you can do.

Remember, propaganda of this type is designed to produce fear and anxiety, thus eliminating the targets capacity for logical rational observation and thought on the subject of the propaganda.

To fall victim of such propaganda, the target must already have certain predispositions towards uncertainly and fear regarding the subject matter. The propaganda must reinforce those feelings, (please note the use of the word “Feelings” here) of uncertainty and fear.

Propaganda works by amplifying a psychological condition known as “Bias Conformation” in its intended targets. Take suppositional information that the target already has, and apply strong emotional leverage to that information biased in the direction of what the target already is uncertain or fearful of and repeat it while constantly increasing the urgency associated with said suppositional information.

Suppositional information is data that are hypothetical in nature and may be assumed to be true or accurate based on opinions, previous experience, or personal background.

The key here, is “May be assumed”. Factual data and empirical evidence sometimes are enough to overcome the conformation bias that propaganda reinforces, though tragically, it usually does not due primarily to the individuals personal “Feelings” and vested interests in not having their conformation bias disturbed.

    @ Deplorable Bumr50:”

This broke w/in the last hr or 2, heard it thru my nap fog on Fox. Nunes was NOT ignored. DOJ did respond with a letter. They read the letter on the air. It said in very polite legalese “Fuck you”.

It’s really too bad Congress doesn’t have U.S. Federal Marshalls at its beck and call. It would be fun to watch Sessions and Rosenstein getting perp walked in cuffs from their backyard BBQs to jail

Having to do with nothing. Anybody watch the morning news show shows? it was all about Stormy Daniels and
little else. That includes Chris Wallace. He badgered Rudy , but treated that thing that represents Stormy much
better. The worst is Jake Tapper, he is obsessed. I expected him to go all twelve year old boy and break
into a chant “Boobiies, Boobies, Boobies…………” Ain’t no news no more.

I had a very interesting conversation in the parking lot at the apartment complex where I live.

It was with a gentleman who is not a citizen of the United States of America, but he lives here.

He knows me, and he knows Calo. Not being racist at all but out of 320 apartments in this complex I am the only pink one.

When Calo visits she is the only blonde, glow in the dark even in the day person!

My friend told me “This place is starting to become Mexico. Have you ever been to Mexico?”

I said yes, and never again. He smiled…

So, we now have a situation in Houston where legal immigrants ( Green card holders like myself ) are becoming concerned that our part of Houston is becoming like Mexico.

Just think about that, a legal green card holding Mexican approaches a legal green card holding British person and starts talking about how shit is going downhill where we both live.

We are both not citizens but we choose to reside here. We pay taxes, obey laws.

And we both can see that the country we are guests in is turning into a shit hole due to illegals, drugs MS13 etc

    @ Possum:

That’s not uncommon. We see the same thing here in NM.

The Dems keep trying to claim that Trump is lumping all immigrants in together, but most of the legal ones know it’s not true. They know those are the people they came here to get away from.
