Divide and Conquer, Hüsker Dü, 1985

Prophetic. They predict the internet and society today way back in 1985….and they predict the attempted Coup d’Etat that is occurring now.

Hüsker Dü is one of my top 3 bands.

My favorite quote about them: Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic said that Nirvana’s musical style was “nothing new; Hüsker Dü did it before us.”

‘Divide And Conquer”
-Hüsker Dü – 1985

Well they divided up all the land
And we’ve got states and cities
Cities have their neighborhoods
And more subdivisions

There’s countries divided by walls
Oceans and latitudes
And longitude, longing to find out
Just what they’re missing, whoa

They’re lots of area codes
And nine digit zip codes
Secret decoder ring codes
Arteries, shopping nodes

We’ll invent some new computers
Link up the global village
And get AP, UPI, and Reuters
To tell everybody, news news

We’ll be one happy neighborhood
Spread out across the world
Who’s going to stop that burglar
From breaking in my house
If he lives that far away, wha

We’ll be just like old friends
No means to your ends
The police state is to busy
The neighborhood’s getting out of hand

Big Brother on every wall
Muzak plays in all the halls
Empires see the rise and fall
They divide, conquer

It’s not about my politics
Something happened way too quick
A bunch of men who played it sick
They divide, conquer

It’s all here before your eyes
Safety is a big disguise
That hides among the other lies
They divide, conquer, what oh oh, oh oh

Well I expect I won’t be heard
‘Cause my silence is assured
Never a discouraging word
They divide and conquer

They divide and conquer
Divide and conquer
They divide and conquer
Divide and conquer, listen

Na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na
Na na na na, whoa

Divide and conquer
Divide and conquer
And conquer
Divide and conquer
And conquer
Divide and conquer
And conquer, listen

La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la, whoa, yeh

    Awesome.

You know I liked (not loved) Nirvana, but wasn’t a big Dave Grohl fan for a while.

The Foo Fighters grew on me.

all full of indignation, until it’s their ass on the line, then ‘praise be, the USAF and boeing’.

Hawaii update from our man on the crater rim! Well 3 miles away from it actually.

    🙂

May 20 – ALPHA UPDATE: Lava is in the ocean!

    – Puna District:
    * Flow front # 3 has split into 2 flows and as of 06:00 (6:00 a.m.) 5/20, both are entering the ocean near Mac Kenzie Beach Park on Hwy 137.

    * Flow front # 1 crossed Hwy 137 near the 13 mile marker (also near Mac Kenzie Beach Park) at approximately 23:00 (11:00 p.m.) 5/19 last night and is also entering the ocean.

    * The following roads are closed and all are asked to stay out of the area.
    – Highway 137 is closed between Kamaili Road and Pohoiki Road.
    – Kamaili Road is closed to all through traffic.

    * Due to the lava entering the ocean off Highway 137 in the vicinity of McKenzie Park, the following policies and health warnings are in effect:

    – Sulfur Dioxide emissions have greatly increased.

    – Be aware of the laze (Lava haze) hazard and stay away from any ocean plume. Laze is formed when hot lava hits the ocean sending hydrochloric acid and steam with fine glass particles into the air. Health hazards of laze include lung damage, and eye and skin irritation. Be aware that the laze plume travels with the wind and can change direction without warning.

BOTTOM LINE: This means residents east of Mac Kenzie Beach Park (toward Isaac Hale Beach Park and Kapoho) can only exit via the east end of Hwy 137 and Hwy 132.

Residents west of Mac Kenzie Beach Park (toward Kahena and Kaimu) can only exit via the west end of Hwy 137 and Hwy 130.

    – Halema`uma`u/Kilauea:
    * For now, Pelehonumea remains busy in Puna so we are pretty quiet as of this morning in Volcano/Halema`uma`u area.

A shout out to all the members of our Armed Forces! Hope you all had a great Armed Forces Day yesterday,

Hmm…The Expanse is good. Although SyFy just announced that it won’t be back for a 4th season. Hopefully some other network will pick it up.

    Altered Carbon was interesting.

Season 7 of Homeland wasn’t bad.

Legion is interesting, if you can follow it.

We watched the first season of ‘The Expanse’ Liked the hard=bitten romantic detective, and the plot was twisty enough to stay interesting. Also liked the first season of ‘American Gods’.

It is an entertaining movie. The writers including Ryan Reynolds have great senses of humor.
I do like how the guy pokes fun at himself ove Green Lantern. Dead Pool 2 won’t win any Oscars , but a great view.
