I read this earlier today and loved it. It’s one thing to be a snob, it’s another thing – a really annoying one – if it’s the precise thing that’s made you utterly irrelevant.

I just wish he had made room for the utter malice that’s part and parcel of this. Kristol told a story the other day about conversation at a party when someone asked “yes, but even if you don’t like the man, don’t you like his policies?” Before Kristol could get started, a woman said, “character,, dear, character matters more than policy”. Whereupon Kristol provided the proverbial pat on the head. “if western civilization is to be saved, it will be saved by a woman”.

Think about that. Kristol wanted to throw the election to Hillary, a woman with so much character that she let Americans die at Benghazi to cover up her gun running and then tried to jail some poor dumb muslim film maker.

That’s NOT just snobbishness, that’s something so putrid a starving cat wouldn’t touch it.

NBC’s Pete Williams Explains How Shotguns Work

NBC correspondent Pete Williams employed an interesting analogy on Friday when trying to describe how shotguns work.

According to Williams, describing the gun used by the shooter in the Capital Gazette newsroom on Thursday, insisted that shotguns operate like a “backwards funnel.”

“A shotgun, uh, uh, you know, if you’re not familiar with a shotgun, it sets out a spray of pellets and because a bullet simply goes in a straight line and shotgun is sort of like a backwards funnel, it spreads it out so that you don’t have to aim very precisely,” Williams claimed on MSNBC on Friday. “It can do a lot of damage to the people that you aim it at, but you don’t fire a lot of rounds with a shotgun, so I think that has something to do with it.”

  3. 3 | June 29, 2018 9:11 pm

Snicker snicker… yea, we have had this conversation many times before haven’t we.

Nice try Emerald, however, your pontification fails upon one single and yet salient point. That being the predication that any of the #NeverTrump crowd were ever Conservatives. They were not. What they are and were, is “Writers”.

i.e. they are individuals who make their living writing articles designed to cater to a specific market. Over and over again for the last couple decades what they really believed could be seen seeping out, and it wasn’t Conservative. It was elitist sanctimonious globalist bull pucky. Their’s was a strategy of slowly boiling the Conservative Republican frogs in Marxist Liberal socialism until the Conservative Republicans were dead and all that remained were boiled frogs.

The speed at which they crashed and burned as “Conservative Pundits” is due mostly to an effect akin to an illusion. “Caution things in Mirror are closer than they appear”. President Trump used his super power on them, and forced them to take off their masks and revel who and what they really were for the entire world to see. But a very large percentage of American Conservatives were already aware of who and what they were.

So while the rest of the world was taken by surprise, actual American Conservatives were not, which is why they fell so fast and nobody came to their aid or tried to defend them.

I think it’s just a one day deal. Downtowns are usually fairly empty on Sundays so there would be nothing to disrupt and no one to pay attention to them. I haven’t checked on the one here, but it’s so hot, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear they had some heat-related medical problems

    Shocking, I know:

IG Report: Loretta Lynch-Bill Clinton Tarmac Meeting Was Planned Via Secret Service, FBI

Stunning revelations from the IG report by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz suggests that the 2016 tarmac meeting between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton was coordinated — contradicting their claims that the meeting was accidental and coincidental.

In 2016, Lynch — the U.S. attorney general under Barack Obama — secretly met for 30 minutes with Bill Clinton on an airport tarmac in Arizona. At the time, then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was being investigated by the FBI over her 30,000 deleted emails and her destroyed government-issued phones, which she and her team smashed with hammers.

Several days after the tarmac meeting, the DOJ (which was headed by then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch) decided not to file any charges against Hillary for her unauthorized use of an unsecured, private email server to conduct government business and her mass-deletion of 30,000 emails.

Page 203 of the IG report suggests that Bill Clinton’s Secret Service detail had contacted Lynch’s FBI detail about their meeting when their planes were on the tarmac.

This is from the comments section of a report of a three day strike by merchants in Tehran & other cities in Iran. The article says the hardliners encouraged the strike along with the merchants who have seen the currency tank even more when Trump said “No deal”

WORTH THE LONG-ISH READ. The Telegraph as a news source seems LESS credible than the comment.

“First of all, there is no such thing as hardliners and reformists in Iran. This is a myth that was created by the Islamic Republic to fool the masses and paint itself as a supposedly democratic system capable of change.

Unfortunately, that myth has been perpetuated by regime lobbyists in the west and consequently western media for years. but thankfully it has been shattered inside Iran and it needs to be shattered in the western media – reformists and hardliners are two sides of the same coin and there will never be detente between the Islamic Republic and its Muslim neighbors, let alone western countries.

The existence of an external enemy is existential for this regime and has been since the beginning… even when Obama bent over backward to help this regime (in the name of helping ordinary Iranians) the shouts of death to America and death to Israel were still being heard and the IR only used the opportunity to strengthen its expansionist policies.

Secondly, these protests are from the people and against the regime. They are not being encouraged by the hardliners against Rouhani or vice versa. The chants in the streets are “death to Khamanei”, “death to Syria and Palestine” and “they tell us our enemy is the US but our enemy is right here” in a clear sign that these protests are against the entire system.

People in Abadan – one of the cities in south west of Iran that was severely damaged during the Iran-Iraq war and still looks somewhat like a war zone decades after that war ended – don’t have drinking water! Farmers in Isfahan don’t have water for their crops and in Mashhad thousands of people lost their life savings when banks went belly up.

So, please stop playing into the hands of one of the most cruel and dangerous regimes in the world and stop reporting these events inaccurately as if the regime is in control and this is US/Israel/S.Arabia against Iran or vice versa. This is Iranian people against a tyrannic, incompetent, corrupt and theocratic regime that is a danger not only to its people but its neighbors and the entire world.”

From zerohedge. Merkel’s putsch for islam causing internal political problems.

“Update 3: Scratch that: no statement from Merkel tonight, however Seehofer did speak to reporters and said that he offered to quit as German interior minister, and that he wants to avoid Merkel government collapse.

He also added that he will stay in politics if Angela Merkel’s CDU backs down in the two parties’ deadlock over migration, DPA reports.

    * * *

Update 2: Angela Merkel will be making a statement later in the night, confirming the severity of the situation.

    * * *

Update: After several hours of negotiations, it appears that Chancellor Merkel and CSU leader Horst Seehofer have been unable to reach an agreement, and according to N-TV, Seehofer told the CSU board meeting the he will resign as Germany’s interior minister and as CSU party chairman amid the clash over Germany’s migration policy, sparing Merkel the need to fire him and potentially preserving the political alliance.”

Note. This doesn’t mean I know stuff about German politics. It’s a situation that demonstrates increasing instability at the core of the EU.

Haaa, I know… Sorry, it was a groaner… And I must apologize, Home Depot is like my second favorite store on earth. (first is Marshall’s Industrial Hardware http://www.marshallshardware.com/ )

    Candy/toy stores for adults.

Cool. So Marshall’s is local to San Diego only? Looks like a good competitor to Ace (the real, old-fashioned Ace) or Graingers?

McMaster-Carr is a cool website because they have 3D CAD drawings for many of their products

Yea, when I was taking MasterCam a couple of years ago in college my professor pointed that out. You can go to McMaster-Carr and download the cad files in SolidWorks, export them to MasterCam and create the tool paths to make the part yourself… IF you have a CNC mill.

Huh. Ever use a Faro Arm to measure a radius?

Cause we were trying to use a Faro Arm to cut quartz to a radius, but the language between the Faro arm and the Intermac required human translation.

    Problems…

    https://faro.com/products/factory-metrology/faroarm/

    http://intermac.com/na/stone/

Sorry to complicate the question. Just wondering how often this communication problem happens between industrial systems, and how often you’ve seen this as a machinist.

    a golf joke for cw

A nun walks into Mother Superior’s office and plunks down into a chair. She lets out a sigh heavy with frustration.

“What troubles you, Sister?” asked the Mother Superior. “I thought this was the day you spent with your family.”

“It was,” sighed the Sister. “I went to play golf with my brother. You know I was quite a talented golfer before I devoted my life to Christ.”

“I seem to recall that,” the Mother Superior agreed. “So I take it your day of recreation was not relaxing?”

“Far from it,” snorted the Sister, “in fact, I even took the Lord’s name in vain today!”

“Goodness, Sister!” gasped the Mother Superior, astonished. “You must tell me all about it!”

“Well, we were on the fifth tee…and this hole is a monster, Mother Superior – 540 yard Par 5, with a nasty dogleg left and a hidden green….and I hit the drive of my life. I creamed it. The sweetest swing I’ve ever made. It’s flying straight and true, right along the line I wanted…and it hits a bird in mid-flight !”

“Oh my!” commiserated the Mother. “How unfortunate! But surely that didn’t make you blaspheme, Sister!”

“No, that wasn’t it,” admitted Sister. “While I was still trying to fathom what had happened, this squirrel runs out of the woods, grabs my ball and runs off down the fairway!”

“Oh, that would have made me blaspheme!” sympathized the Mother.

“But I didn’t, Mother!” sobbed the Sister. “And I was so proud of myself! And while I was pondering whether this was a sign from God, this hawk swoops out of the sky and grabs the squirrel and flies off, with my ball still clutched in his paws!”

“So that’s when you cursed,” said the Mother with a knowing smile.

“Nope, that wasn’t it either,” cried the Sister, anguished, “because as the hawk started to fly out of sight, the squirrel started struggling, and the hawk dropped him right there on the green, and the ball popped out of his paws and rolled to about 18 inches from the cup!”

Mother Superior sat back in her chair, folded her arms across her chest, fixed the Sister with a baleful stare and said… “You missed the freakin’ putt, didn’t you?”

Nope. I have never used a 3D touch probe. I did work at 2 places that used laser based CMM scan tables, but never actually used either of them. They are a real bitch to set up and touchy as hell.

Here’s another take on the ongoing extinction of the NeverTrumpers

We ruined their scam. They miss the cruise ships, filled with marks handing over cash to mingle with second-tier scribes from magazines put out by lesser sons of greater fathers that we stopped reading when they stopped mattering. Never Trump wants to once stand on a sold-out cruise ship’s bridge, pale puny arms spread wide, shouting, “I’m a minor duke of the world!”

holy moley! don’t know if you heard, but in Thailand a football team and their coach decided to explore some caves after a game. While they were inside, the rains came, the place flooded, and they were trapped. Well, they have been found alive. I think they’re still trying to get them out – there’s a lot of water to pump out – but they’ll make it.

Obama Admin Granted Citizenship To 2,500 Iranians With Nuclear Deal: Iran Official

The Obama administration granted citizenship to 2,500 Iranians, including family members of government officials, while negotiating the Iran nuclear deal, a senior cleric and member of parliament has claimed.

Hojjat al-Islam Mojtaba Zolnour, who is chairman of Iran’s parliamentary nuclear committee and a member of its national security and foreign affairs committee, made the allegations during an interview with the country’s Etemad newspaper, cited by the country’s Fars News agency.

He claimed it was done as a favor to senior Iranian officials linked to President Hassan Rouhani, and he alleged the move sparked a competition among Iranian officials over whose children would benefit from the scheme.

He claimed that the deal was made during negotiations for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was reached in July 2015. President Trump announced in May that the U.S. would withdraw from the agreement.

“When Obama, during the negotiations about the JCPOA, decided to do a favor to these men, he granted citizenship to 2,500 Iranians and some officials started a competition over whose children could be part of these 2,500 Iranians,” he claimed.
