NCAA D1 Football Week #5 OPEN THREAD

Filed under College Football, Open thread at September 29th, 2018 - 9:00 am

Last week I was 5/8…+300 which puts me at 17/29 and $1550/$1000 overall. Last week saved my bacon, If this were real money I would have got out after week #1 at $1750/$1000. But, this aint real so I will stay in ad here we go at $100 per game.

Sadly, I have to be in bed early Saturday Night to get up and go to my hotel and then my assignment early Sunday Morning. I am less than pleased about this.

#12 West Virginia at #25 Texas Tech – Sat, Sep 29, 12:00 PM ET : The ‘Neers are 3.5 point favorites. I hate .5’s. This means that they have to win by 4 to beat the spread, Tt has to get within 3 points to beat their spread. Either way, this is gonna be a shoot-out and I have to go with Tt to beat the spread and probably win outright.

Tennessee at #2 Georgia – Sat, Sep 29, 3:30 PM ET : The Bulldogs are 31 point favorites. 31 points!!!! Good Lord. Tennessee is a beautiful place, I’ve been there. It is not a beautiful place when the Vols are losing. A collective funk falls over the state and it becomes a sad and painful hell for Vol fans. Georgia is flat out great and they have something to prove…But, 31 points??? I just can’t. The Vols beat this spread.

#7 Stanford at #8 Notre Dame – Sat, Sep 29, 7:30 PM ET : The Tree is a 5 point dog on the road in front of Touchdown Jesus. This is a classic ND rivalry game but they are underachieving again. The Tree beats this 5 point spread.

#4 Ohio State at #9 Penn State – Sat, Sep 29, 7:30 PM ET : The Buckeyes are 3 point favorites on the road in Happy Valley where the PSU offense is overachieving but Urban Meyer is back at the helm of the Buckeyes. I think the Buckeyes cover.

#20 BYU at #11 Washington – Sat, Sep 29, 8:30 PM ET : BYU is getting 17. They cover.

Ole Miss at #5 LSU – Sat, Sep 29, 9:00 PM ET : The Tigers are favored by 10 at home, GEAUX TIGERS! They beat this spread.

#19 Oregon at #24 California – Sat, Sep 29, 10:30 PM ET : The Ducks are favored by 1.5 on the road at the Berkley Bears and cover this spread.

    ok, rant on:

    i am sick and tired of these ‘single mothers’ being treated like heroes. you spread your legs to a loser/criminal and got pregnant well before you were even capable of taking care of a child now the father was shot in a drug deal, or is gone and not in the picture, or is in jail…no, you made a terrible decision and are not a hero. you are an idiot. often an idiot slut over and over again to different losers.

    the profession of single mother is not heroic, sorry, YOU put YOURSELF in that situation and are reaping what you sewed which is quite unlike someone like a widow. now society gets to pay in more ways than one and over and over again for your idiotic behavior. if someone chose to be an idiotic alcoholic, it wouldnt be heroic, would it?

    rant off

    @ The Barbarian:
    I had a patient who trooped her 4 kids into my ER, they all had different last names and the first thing she announced during triage was…

    I’m a single mother.

    I wanted to flip out. Instead, I said, we cant treat that here, why are you signing in today?

    And then, every espn story on a college ball player MUST start with the single mother. If dad is there, he gets a 5 second nod and that’s it.

    I’m going to go with… Because the NYT’s tried running a poll on Thursday asking if Christine Blasey-Ford was a creditable witness, and they had to shut the poll down within an hour, because the results were overwhelmingly NO.

    They know how unpopular Blasey-Ford is and how popular and trusted Kavanaugh is. They aren’t about to risk asking the public their opinion again in a situation where people can see the unaltered results.

    Hubby was reading around the net on the Kavanaugh witch hunt yesterday. He said that Mark Judge, Kavanaugh’s friend whose letter was presented wrote a book when they were young. The book had a character who was heavily into booze and sex. and he named him Bret O’Kavanaugh. (spelling?) If true it was obvious satire. It did make me think that Mark is a week spot and too incapacitated to show up. If the FBI goes after him during their investigation it’s a fresh avenue of attack.

    Just a bit of worrying about the future Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh. I mean there’s been no evidence of Ford’s bullshit story and yet the Dems have already battered an exceptional man and his family. I’d like to have the FBI investigate Christine Ford and drag up witnesses to her high school privileged private school excesses.

    The demonrats are desperate. If the culture wars hadn’t turned women into special snowflakes victimized by white males, that mockery of
    a 36 year old incident with no proof would never made national news for a week. Don’t get me started on muslim women in the West demanding to have their passport pictures taken with covered faces because haram.

    According to CBS, one of the last persons that Senator Flake spoke with before his announcement that he wanted another week before voting on good Judge Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court was none other than corrupt Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein –

    YoungER, maybe. He wrote the book after he sobered up, as part of his recovery. I have no idea who the cast of characters is.

    @ Deplorable Bumr50:

    Another POV on Kavanaugh:

    However, over at The American Thinker, writer Michael Filozof thinks it’s really all about another topic.

    The Kavanaugh confirmation is about the future, not refighting the cultural battles of the 1970s. And next up on the Democratic agenda is sweeping, national gun control – and possibly even confiscation. In the 2016 campaign, candidate Hillary Clinton stated that the U.S. needed to consider the Australian model of a national semi-automatic gun ban. California congressman Eric Swalwell went even farther, explicitly endorsing an Australian-style mandatory gun “buyback” and “going after resisters” here in the U.S. Prior to the passage of the infamous “SAFE” Act in 2013, New York’s Gov. Cuomo publicly stated that “confiscation could be an option.” H.R. 5087, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018, has nearly 200 Democratic sponsors. It includes a total ban on AR-15-style rifles and magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds, plus a national ban on private transfers.

    These policies – and more – are already the law in the liberal bastions of New York, Massachusetts, and California. All have been upheld by the federal Circuit Courts.

    That’s where Kavanaugh enters the picture. Sitting on a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court, Kavanaugh dissented when the panel upheld the District of Columbia’s “assault weapons” ban, explicitly stating that semi-automatic firearms are protected by the Second Amendment. Presumably, his published dissent indicates how he would rule in similar cases on the Supreme Court.

    That’s what the Democrats are afraid of. Look at who leads the opposition to Kavanaugh: Dianne Feinstein, who stated on national television that if she could force Americans to turn in their guns, she would do it, and lifelong New York City gun-control freak Chuck Schumer, author of the 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban” – which was positively tame compared to what is coming next.

    @ yenta-fada:

    Maybe if they’re taking the long view. But that’s not happening any time soon. Even if the Dems were somehow able to miraculously get control of both the House and Senate in November, it would be by tiny margins. Trump would veto any such nonsense they passed, and they couldn’t possibly override it.

    @ yenta-fada:

    GoFundMe Donations and Income Taxes

    Donations made to GoFundMe campaigns are usually considered to be “personal gifts” which, for the most part, aren’t taxed as income.

    However, there may be particular case-specific instances where the income is in fact taxable (depending on amounts received, use of the funds, etc.), so we recommend that you maintain adequate records of donations received and consult a tax professional to be sure. GoFundMe will not report your donations as income at the end of the year, or issue any tax documents. Because everyone’s situation is different and tax rules can change from time to time, we’re unable to give any tax advice. https://support.gofundme.com/hc/en-us/articles/204295498-GoFundMe-Donations-and-Income-Taxes

    And notice that they don’t report to the IRS, even if it is taxable

    Joe DiGenova: Kavanaugh Inquisition Is Our Future With Democrats In Power

    Former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova framed Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings with Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh as glimpses of America’s future with Democrat congressional majorities. He offered his remarks in a Friday interview with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily.

    DiGenova said, “What you saw on display by the Democrats on that committee was the raw political power that they will wield against people of goodwill, and all you have to do to know that is what’s going to happen is look at what the IRS did to conservative groups under Lois Lerner and John Koskinen.”

    DiGenova continued, “This is the future of our country if the Democrats get control of the House and Senate. They are vile people. There is nothing good anymore to be said about the Democratic Party. They have eschewed all integrity [and] honesty in pursuit of power. They are an ugly people, and they need to be beaten down politically and defeated.”

    DiGenova described the dual Ford-Kavanaugh hearings as politically damaging for Democrats.

    “I think the Democrats’ worst nightmare occurred, and that is that Christine Blasey Ford testified,” said diGenova. “It was a terrible mistake, because what you saw was a terribly troubled woman with deep emotional problems.”

    DiGenova described Ford’s testimony as “adolescent” and “literally unbelievable.”

    “Just think about this,” began diGenova. “This is a woman in her fifties, who 35 years ago said someone attempted to sexually assault her. She then cannot tell you where it happened, when it happened, how she got there, how she left. She left her best friend there, presumably to be raped by these two mad men.”

    DiGenova went on, “Her testimony was adolescent in nature. Her emotional state after 35 years was literally unbelievable. In my opinion, the best thing that happened to Judge Kavanaugh with the public disclosure of these now clearly false allegations was that people got to see her. They got to see her, and they got to see him.”

    @ eaglesoars:

    Do you notice that Avenutti and his client have been absent from the airwaves? That’s unusual, since we know what an attention whore he is. It’s telling that he was really cagey, after the 4Chan story came out, that he was being interviewed by James Tapper and refused to answer the question as to when he was engaged by Swetnick to represent her. Considering that not a single person has come forward to back up her story – and you’d think out of 10 gang rape parties someone would have a memory of it and want to talk, even if they were just in attendance, to corroborate her story.

    I’m starting to think that 4Chan story just might be true. That Swetnick was an emergency substitute that was found for him. I know it sounds crazy – but this whole situation is sounding more and more like the delusions of a psychotic in a rubber room.

    I would not be surprised if Swetnick on her own notified the FBI or even the White House that this whole thing was promulgated by Avenutti. And I’d love the White House to spring it on the Senate at the last minute. It also wouldn’t surprise me that Swetnick had FIRED Avenutti right after he put her personal information on Twitter.

    I cannot figure out how to copy and paste a link on the Mac for some reason, but Sooper Mexican at Right Scoop is reporting that Senator Grassley has turned over the letter Senator Outhouse got from the deranged individual in Rhode Island that alleged Kavanaugh raped a woman on a boat to the FBI and recommended a criminal prosecution.

    So to me, he’s signaling to the duplicitous Democrats that he will do the same to anyone else that sends false allegation missives to the Senators. After all, they have their own investigative unit – and sending a false statement to the Senate is a crime.

    In other news, Maxine Waters’ office has been rumored as the source of the doxxing of the Senators’ personal information to the Soros organization, or whatever organization it was sent to so that they could be harassed in their homes. Maxie-Pad has sent out a very strong letter proclaiming her office’s innocence and that the Captiol Hill police and the IT department have found no evidence of wrong\doing.

    Oh no no, Auntie Maxine. That’s not the new standard. The new standard is we believe the allegations no matter what, that exculpatory evidence is worthless, and that if you’re REALLY as innocent as you say you are, you should be demanding an immediate FBI investigation.

    I may not agree with Dersh’s politics or even the conclusions he’s drawn in some cases (we’re on oppsite sides on Bush v Gore), but this is a man who has devoted his life to the pursuit of justice. And that scene in “Reversal of Fortune” where he explains his reason for taking the von Bulow case, not because he liked von Bulow, but the circumstances surrounding how his prosecution came about is classic Dersh.

    And the creepy porn lawyer has the chutzpah to say he has no credibility. The rate he’s going, by this time next year, Avenutti will be lucky to have a law license.

    “While the Senate Judiciary Committee tried their hardest to portray the Honorable Brett Kavanaugh as a binge-drinking, gang-raping liar, they questioned his accuser, Dr. Christine Ford, with kid gloves.

    …But even more important is the fact that Ford claimed she’s a “Psychologist.” Guess what… all state records seem to conclude that she is not, in fact, a psychologist… merely a professor of the subject. Read below the exhausting research done to prove that she may not be what she claims to be… could she be facing a perjury charge? Only time will tell…

    Dangerous reports:

    Testifying under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Christine Blasey Ford identified herself as a ‘psychologist,’ but records indict this is a false statement under California law. Someone at Stanford University also appears to have caught the blunder and edited Ford’s faculty page.
    Just one sentence into her sworn testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford may have told a lie.”

    After thanking members of the committee on Thursday, and while under oath, Ford opened her testimony saying, “My name is Christine Blasey Ford, I am a professor of psychology at Palo Alto University and a research psychologist at the Stanford University School of Medicine.”

    The issue lies with the word “psychologist,” and Ford potentially misrepresenting herself and her credentials, an infraction that is taken very seriously in the psychology field as well as under California law.

    According to records, Ford is not licensed in the state of California. A recent search through the Department of Consumer Affairs License Bureau, which provides a state-run database of all licensed psychologists in California, produced no results for any variation of spelling on Ford’s name. If Ford at one time had a license but it is now inactive, she would legally still be allowed to call herself a “psychologist” but forbidden from practicing psychology on patients until it was renewed. However, the database would have shown any past licenses granted to Ford, even if they were inactive.

    Ford also does not appear to have been licensed in any other states outside California. Since graduating with a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Southern California in 1996 it does not appear Ford has spent any significant amount of time outside the state. She married her husband in California in 2002, and completed a master’s degree in California in 2009. She reportedly completed an internship in Hawaii, but a search of Hawaii’s Board of Psychology licensing database also did not turn up any results for Ford.

    now this is funny

    This is a story with a happy ending…

    I was sitting at the bar staring at my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig.”

    “Well, whatcha’ gonna do about it?” he says, menacingly, as I burst into tears. “Come on, man,” the biker says, “I didn’t think you’d cry. I can’t stand to see a man crying.”

    “This is the worst day of my life,” I said. “I’m a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don’t have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife with another man … and then my dog bit me.”

    “So, I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all. I buy a drink, I drop a capsule in it and sit here watching the poison dissolve. Then you show up and drink the whole damn thing! But, hell, enough about me, how are you doing?”

And that it was FEINSTEIN that recommended Katz. Um, isn’t her brother a lawyer? In the DC area? It’s almost like Dirty Dianne had the name of a lawyer all ready to go when she asked (and its clearly a conflict of interest for her to make such a referral, according to Popehat).

    I’s been pointed out that NONE of here family showed up to support her at the hearing. Not her husband, not her parents, not her brothers.

    Oh, she was so brave. If you ask me, the real bravery was Ashley Kavanagh – And I wish she had turned around and stared down that piece of crap has-been Alyssa Milano.

    Living one day at a time;
    enjoying one moment at a time;
    accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    taking, as He did, this sinful world
    as it is, not as I would have it;
    trusting that He will make all things right

    Living one day at a time;
    enjoying one moment at a time;
    accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    taking, as He did, this sinful world
    as it is, not as I would have it;
    trusting that He will make all things right
    if I surrender to His Will;
    that I may be reasonably happy in this life
    and supremely happy with Him
    forever in the next.

    i am sick and tired of these ‘single mothers’ being treated like heroes. you spread your legs to a loser/criminal and got pregnant well before you were even capable of taking care of a child now the father was shot in a drug deal, or is gone and not in the picture, or is in jail…no, you made a terrible decision and are not a hero. you are an idiot. often an idiot slut over and over again to different losers.
