Whataboutism You Talkin’ About, Willis??

“But George Bush……”

For eight years we heard this. That or “it’s Bush’s fault. Mind you, from 2000 to 2008 no one was allowed to point out the failures of the Clinton Administration; we were only to remember the fabulous economy, but not the dot.com burst that destroyed 401k’s and fortunes; we were to remember the rise in home ownership; not the strongarm tactics that resulted in disastrous loans. Most of all, we were never to mention the foreign policy failures that contributed to 9/11.  From 2008 to 2016, Bush was to blame for everything from interest-only ARM loans to the Fall of the Roman Empire.

Well, it’s back. When Donald Trump is criticized for this or that, and you direct the critic to similar or worse actions by Obama, the cry goes up “I’m tired of your Whataboutism! Why can’t you just defend Trump without criticizing Obama! You CAN’T, can you?”  Well, I certainly can, but I just spent 8 years being called a racist; I’m not about to subject myself to the new and improved version regarding the White Guy with the Hair that Defies Gravity.  (I swear, the next kitten I get is going to be a marmalade color, just so I can name him Trumpkin and piss off all the right neighbors).

But what I like to call “whatabout?” is expanding to new areas.  With predictably similar results.

National Rifle Association v. Planned Parenthood

If there is any organization the left hates with a passion it’s the National Rifle Association.  Their exalted status as bogeyman/terrorist is relatively recent – pretty much since the 1980’s.  For instance, on August 1, 1966, when mental defective Charles Whitman climbed the stairs at the University of Texas to unleash hell on the populace below, no one took to the airwaves to condemn the members of the NRA.   Now the 6 million members of the NRA are responsible for every madman who commits an act of evil using a firearm.  They stand in the way of gun control laws!  If only it weren’t for the NRA, we would have sensible gun laws.  You know, like they have in Chicago.  Or in California.  Because those gun laws worked so well in San Bernardino.  They are the only organization that I can think of where it’s members are continually held liable for acts they not only condemn, but had no part in.  It’s always striking that the ignorant left vilifies politicians that accept endorsements from the NRA, whose members are the sole source of their campaign donations.

The darling organization of the left is Planned Parenthood, an organization that reeks of deception and whose very name is dripping with irony.  The left and the media extol the virtue of PP, that it provides women with necessary “health care”. For this they receive governmental funding, the withdrawal of which will apparently end any hope of women receiving medical care in this country.  But what Democrats bestow with their left hand – they extract with their right in the form of campaign donations.  This isn’t a women’s health organization – it’s Mr. Yin Fluff and Fold.  And when the insidious practices of PP are exposed in the form of undercover video, does the MSM or Democrats demand an explanation?  No.  They immediately accuse the video makers of lying.  In fact, if you’re the California Attorney General and running for the U.S. Senate, you protect your donor by bringing criminal charges against them.

The TEA Party v. The Resistance

The TEA Party actually had its genesis in the election of 2006, in response to the profligate spending by the GOP.  They didn’t actually vote FOR the Democrats; they just refused to vote for the Republicans; but the result was a same.  It gave itself a name in 2009 in response to the ACA.  It held rallies, cleaned up after themselves, and attended Town Hall meetings where their voices got a little loud and their anger was evident.  Violence, however, was not a part of the rhetoric.  When the ACA was still in its legislative phase, they politely went to the halls of Congress and requested a meeting with their various Congress Critters.  For this, they were labeled racist by the mainstream media and called terrorists by the Vice President. Not to mention the use of  the vulgar term “tea baggers” by the President, who snotted about them whenever possible.  The media, in fact, blamed them for the death of a Federal agent because he was found dead in the woods several miles from where a rally was being held.  Except, suicide.  Retraction on page 6.

The Resistance arose in the election of 2016, for no other reason than they didn’t like results.  Trump hadn’t even DONE anything and there they were, taking to the streets and screaming their asses off.  Wanting to blow up the White House.  Their paramilitary wing, Antifa, happily crashes any pro-America rally in hopes of putting that brand-new club with accessorized bicycle locks to use on a “Trumpster’s” head.  Bonus points if they’re wearing a red hat.  Conservative speaker in town?  Well, let’s burn down nearby buildings and scare away those conservative cavepeople with FIRE!  Media gives them a pass, calling them “anti-fascists” and reducing their antics to a one-minute segment, to be followed by half an hour on the President’s latest tweet.  ANTI-fascist??  Maybe these people need to Google “Kristallnacht” and take a refresher course in the what the Brown Shirts really were.

I’m thinking the ancient Romans had it right…..the Latin word for “left” is “sinister”.

she’s one of the ones I mentioned last nite. She’s the person who accused Trump of having an incestuous relationship with Ivanka. Remember the name. Julia Ioffe.

Some of the Never Trumpers (e.g. John Podhoretz) are assuming a horrified crouch at the Trump blaming, never thinking that their years of Never Trumping (which was never based on policy, as it began during the campaign) fertilized those fields.

The new thing on twitter is to try to isolate George Soros from the free-fire zone. Now the word ‘Soros’ is a ‘dog whistle’ for ‘Jew’ and if you say ‘Soros’ you mean ‘Jew’ and you are an anti-Semite.

It was a fascinating thing to watch. Within a matter of hours, no more than 6, the language police came out with their speech cudgels. I watched to see if I could tell where it originated but it was too diffuse. But there’s definitely a ‘journolist’ feel to it, marching orders were given and to the keyboards they took.

Trump as an anti-Semite is not a new trope. Here’s a piece from the Atlantic/Nov 2016 that uses a campaign ad to illustrate. You can watch the ad. So, after you’ve done that, read the piece and see if it makes ANY sense to you. When I watched it, it was about jobs, globalism, etc. and Hillary was the main villain. But this guy saw Soros, Yellin and Blankenfield as the targets.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/trump-rolls-out-anti-semitic-closing-ad

The other thing about using Soros as a stand-in for Jews: He’s an atheist. To insist he’s a Jew today is to declare Jews to be a race. Think about that.

Adam Schiff Says ‘No Accident’ Trump, GOP Target Soros: ‘Whole Modus Operandi Is To Divide Us’

Rep. Adam Schiff of California on Sunday said President Trump preaches unity in the wake of the tragedy but flirts with danger every morning by stoking divisions on Twitter and mocking George Soros, a prominent Jewish donor for Democrats and target of political attacks from the GOP.

“Honestly, I think this president’s whole modus operandi is to divide us,” Mr. Schiff, a Democrat, told CNN’s State of the Union, one day after a gunman killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue while making anti-Semitic comments.

Mr. Schiff said the American people have a “collective responsibility” to reel in hatred, yet “no one sets the the tone more than the president of the United States.”

The congressman said the president has failed to lead.

“It’s going to fall on all the rest of us to make this a more perfect union,” Mr. Schiff said.

President Trump condemned the anti-Semitic attack on Saturday and tweeted that Americans must “unite to conquer hate.”

The pragmatic argument to the “Soros the Jew” argument is to cite Israeli and Hungarian policies toward him.

Watching the Dodgers/Red Sox final innings. It is amazing how a manager takes out a pitcher who is loose & dominating through almost 7 innings, Rich Hill of Dodgers, and brings in nervous reliever(s) who get shellacked. 4 run lead gone. Managers do it all the time, big mistake!

Al Gore Wrong Again: Greenhouse Gas Emissions Dropped Nearly 3% In Trump’s First Year

When President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accords, liberals went ape nuts. America, they said, had just signed the death decree of the world. Al Gore moved to the South Pole and built an igloo.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the end of the world. Instead of America causing irreversible global warming, harmful greenhouses gases that some scientists say causes climate change actually decreased during Trump’s first year in office, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported.

The EPA report showed “overall decreases across sectors and that total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions reported decreased by 2.7 percent from 2016 to 2017.”

“Thanks to President Trump’s regulatory reform agenda, the economy is booming, energy production is surging, and we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions from major industrial sources,” said EPA acting administrator Andrew Wheeler. “These achievements flow largely from technological breakthroughs in the private sector, not the heavy hand of government. The Trump Administration has proven that federal regulations are not necessary to drive CO2 reductions. While many around the world are talking about reducing greenhouse gases, the U.S. continues to deliver, and today’s report is further evidence of our action-oriented approach.”

ok, here’s something else to watch for. This is from The Hill, a publication the reports on doings on Capital Hill.

A group of Jewish leaders told President Trump that he is no longer welcome in Pittsburgh until he denounces white nationalism following the shooting at a synagogue there over the weekend.

Eleven members of the Pittsburgh affiliate of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice penned a letter to Trump following the Saturday shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue.

“Our Jewish community is not the only group you have targeted,” the group wrote. “You have also deliberately undermined the safety of people of color, Muslims, LGBTQ people, and people with disabilities. Yesterday’s massacre is not the first act of terror you incited against a minority group in our country.”

Anyone who believes that someone’s worth as a human being has anything to do with their skin color or their nationality is a fool. But in America, people have the right to be fools. Thanks for your description because I just told her it was from all walks of life and mostly in flyover country. If she didn’t know, then almost nobody on the left knew. But they still HATED it.

There’s a very distinct yinzer dialect called ‘Pittsburgh-ese’, and some of it embodies Appalachian English. This is interesting (yes, I said ‘haint it’, instead of ‘isn’t it’ when I was little until my mother boxed it out of my ears)

mine too. Dad was pure Appalachia, Mom was Mardi Gras Queen so I grew up hearing such different dialects and learning to speak them. Now, where YOU are it’s ‘yinz’, but go to Uniontown where I started out and it’s ‘yunz’. I was 30 yrs old before someone told me to stop droppin’ the’g’s and as whenever I hit Loozianna I answer to nothing except Miz Eagle.

    @ Aussie Infidel:

well, 5000 troops is better than 800 but my guess is they’re going to weed out the gangs/child traffickers. The border is about 2000 miles wide, but I don’t know the actual area they’re going to have to cover.

IIRC, that’s a bit closer to Appalachia. Don’t they say ‘bootiful’ instead of ‘beautiful’?
