Friday Music: Greta Saves Rock N Roll

Like I said a little over a year ago, Greta Van Fleet might just have to save Rock N Roll.

Well…looks like they are.

NEW YORK (AP) — When the members of the rock band Greta Van Fleet put their last touches on their first full-length album, they didn’t celebrate with a round of beers or a fancy dinner. They immediately started working on new songs.

“Once we finished ‘Anthem of the Peaceful Army’ — the very day that we’d OK’d all the mixing — we started writing the next album,” said Jake Kiszka, the band’s guitarist. “If we’re stagnant, it becomes boring.”

The young Michigan rockers whose sound and classic rock look is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin have done the opposite of stagnate in the last 18 months. It’s been more like an explosion, capped by four Grammy Award nominations, including best new artist and best rock album.

Since their April 2017 breakthrough with the song “Highway Tune,” they’ve put out two EPs and their “Anthem of the Peaceful Army” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s rock chart and No. 3 on the all-genre albums chart last year. It has also reached the Top 10 in Canada, Italy and Germany.

They’ve played “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” count Elton John as a fan and have been embraced as the four guys who can save rock ‘n’ roll, a tag they politely decline.

“It’s a silly thing to consider anyone a savior of rock ‘n’ roll. In our opinion, no one king can wear that crown,” said Jake Kiszka, 22. “There’s always someone who carries the torch and takes that into the future and interprets that through their influences.”

Jason Flom, who signed Greta Van Fleet to his Lava Records, said there’s nothing calculated about the band, saying they make music because it’s what they were born to do: “It’s almost like they were sent in a time capsule to save rock ‘n’ roll,” he said. “They wouldn’t say that, but I will.”

Listening to the radio as I’m running around. Apparently one of the charges against Stone is lying to the House Select Committee on Intelligence.

So lying to Congress gets a SWAT team to your house at 4 in the morning? I want the fucking 82nd Airborne at Hillary’s house YESTERDAY

    I AGRE

Trump is feeling for the US Coast Guard and wants them funded. He’ll pay up until 15 Feb and then throw the ball back into the Dems cours and say … ” now do what you said you’d do and negotiate”.

We all know that the Dems are never going to ‘play’

Then Trump pulls out Article 2808 that doesn’t set a precedent of going ‘all nuclear’ and declaring a State of Emergency in order to fund the wall.

Trump is STILL the smartest guy in the room!

    no NOT good.

I think you’re not playing this out. Trump declares a nat’l emergency BUT – a judge in Hawaii throws down the injunction gauntlet and it takes a year to get to SCOTUS

    BUT

Here is something that MIGHT work. The Congressional Research Service issued a report (it’s somewhere, I don’t feel like looking for it) that says Trump doesn’t need that EO or Congress – he can move money already approved in the military budget.

If THAT’S true – he could get it started ASAP.

    BUT

If he goes down that road, the rap is – why didn’t he do it in the first place? You can make the argument that he’s trying to avoid aggrandizing more power to the Exec, force the Congress to do it’s job, etc., but it’s too esoteric to be politically viable. That’s what goes into history books, not the editorial pages of the WSJ and WaPo 18 mos before the general election

    enjoy your slab of meat.

Say hello to British libel law

    In toto:

Following last Saturday’s (Jan 19) Telegraph magazine cover story “The mystery of Melania”, we have been asked to make clear that the article contained a number of false statements which we accept should not have been published. Mrs Trump’s father was not a fearsome presence and did not control the family. Mrs Trump did not leave her Design and Architecture course at University relating to the completion of an exam, as alleged in the article, but rather because she wanted to pursue a successful career as a professional model. Mrs Trump was not struggling in her modelling career before she met Mr Trump, and she did not advance in her career due to the assistance of Mr Trump.

We accept that Mrs Trump was a successful professional model in her own right before she met her husband and obtained her own modelling work without his assistance. Mrs Trump met Mr Trump in 1998, not in 1996 as stated in the article. The article also wrongly claimed that Mrs Trump’s mother, father and sister relocated to New York in 2005 to live in buildings owned by Mr Trump. They did not. The claim that Mrs Trump cried on election night is also false.

We apologise unreservedly to The First Lady and her family for any embarrassment caused by our publication of these allegations. As a mark of our regret we have agreed to pay Mrs Trump substantial damages as well as her legal costs.

    Exactly !

Trump has flushed out more RINOS out of the bushes (pardon the pun) and has made their chances at pre-selection in 2020 practically zero. At the same time he’s stolen San Fran Nan’s initiative and branded her as the leader of the party of NO, and way too far left to become electable by the average US citizen. Forget the 20% hard left wing of the Dems as they are welded on. It’s the rest of the Dems and most importantly the Independents who will look at the leaders and policies of the Dems and be appalled. Many will stay home in droves just as Trump planned from the first.

Trump is dangling bait further and further left and every time the Dems rise to the bait. By 2020 the Dems will be to the left of Stalin and Mao and millions of Dems will simply stay at home and enjoy an economy just rolling along nicely thank you !

As you might guess the list is long, but even if you skim through you will get the idea.

hardly definitive. First, remember that trip to Japan? There was a photo op they misreported, I forget the details. Then there’s this:

    26. July 6, 2017:
The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, CNN and numerous outlets had long reported, as if fact, the Hillary Clinton claim that a total of 17 American intelligence agencies concluded that Russia orchestrated election year attacks to help get Trump elected. Only three or four agencies, not 17, had officially done so.

That’s not fair to Haberman or the NYT. That came DIRECTLY from Brennan, and WaPo was the first to print it I believe. I remember because as evidence Brennan used a code fragment that I spent a fun few hours shredding.

    @ doriangrey:

What are the going to do about those shoulders? Soft tissue problems are tricky. I’ve had problems with them in many places for 40 years. Extra strength Tylenol taken asap helps a bit for me. CW will have ideas. Those squishy drugstore ice packs are a household staple. I make sure to move them from where it hurts and then trace the pain down all the way along the muscle 15 minutes at each location. Use pillows to keep the packs in place. Watch movies and maybe do one shoulder at a time so you can switch sides.

It sounds laborious, but this is based on years of experience and has no side effects except annoyance.

    @ coldwarrior:

Cardinal Dolan said ‘no’ – because excommunication is not to be used as a weapon.

    I’m thinking ‘since WHEN?’

Hubby and stepson spent a few hours at Trump’s place hanging out with people, met a few really they really liked. One guy talking about this just cried.

    @ eaglesoars:

the case is rather clear. cuomo (and a boat load of other dems) simply cannot hold those beliefs, make law and act they way they do, and remain catholic in good standing.

it’s not even a question of ‘excommunication as a weapon. its a doctrinal and ecclesiastical simple case to make. i’m glad i converted to orthodoxy or this would have put me over the endge.

    @ClandestineRos1
I see many of you making the mistake of believing that Trump’s EO will be stopped by a 9th circuit ruling.

EOs regarding NAT SEC go straight to the Supreme Court.

Now you know why Trump waited until he had Kavanaugh to negotiate; and why the dems tried everything to prevent it.

Good morning. I should have known better than to look at USA Today this morning.
They are back smearing a group of 15-16 year olds at Covington Catholic
They smear through innuendo and tortured facts.
They do not seem to mind that much that the Black Hebrews yelled vile insults that were really threatening.
They defend Nathan as some innocent saint. They know that he is an ex con , serial liar and provocateur.
He invaded their space, targeted one kid and chose to intimidate him. The other goof ball Indian screamed “go
back to Europe” do ya do racism much? Imagine if the kids had yelled “go back to Siberia to the race hustling Indian.
Rant off, now to clear the Global Warming off the driveway.

    no.

and what are ya gonna do about it? bang on a drum? collect more welfare? drink more booze? do more drugs? yeah, that’ll show us.

i grow weary of the indian bullshit, i really do (and my great gramma was 100% apache). they were losers of civilizations who perpetually fought among themselves, could not invent the wheel or mathematics or even basic physics, and gave up an entire continent because they could not get unified in the face of a existential threat. their culture had not advanced in tens of thousands of years.

ya know what oh chief welfare sucker? there was this culture called the etruscans, they were the neighbors of the romans, no one cries for them.

be glad it was europe who kicked your ass and not the chinese or you would have been erased from history. and go see a dentist, i’m sure that i pay for that too.

The upside of Cher is that you are not married to her. when Sonny & Cher sang I couldn’t tell who was who.
When Sonny was mayor of Palm Springs he banned thongs at swimming pools.
The jok was that it was to keep Cher out of town.

A surge of arctic air is about to bring parts of the Midwest the coldest temperatures in years by the middle of this week, as part of the polar vortex is set to blast the region with dangerously cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service said in its forecast discussion that a “potentially record breaking push” of Arctic air will inundate the Northern Plains and Great Lakes by Wednesday, bringing wind chills as low as -40 degrees in many locations.

“There’s no mild way of saying it. Brutal cold is coming,” the NWS’ Chicago office said on Twitter.
