Trump inks trade pact with Vietnam for purchase of Boeing planes

President Trump praised Vietnam Wednesday for its “thriving” economy as he signed a trade deal with Vietnamese leaders and seeks to persuade North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un to follow Hanoi’s example.

Meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Mr. Trump signed agreements calling for Vietnam to purchase more than 100 passenger airliners from Seattle-based Boeing Inc., a deal worth about $21 billion.

“You really are an example of what can happen with good thinking,” Mr. Trump told Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong and other officials.

Mr. Trump also said approvingly that Vietnam is interested in purchasing U.S.-made military equipment.

At a luncheon with Vietnamese officials, Mr. Trump said greater cooperation from Mr. Kim would “make North Korea into a great economic power.” Pyongyang is seeking relief from economic sanctions in return for agreeing to dismantle its weapons program.

What’s going on in Canada? Trudeau in trouble.

India and Pakistan are at war?

Some company that Trudeau likes ($$$) got on the wrong side of the law, so his attorney general brought charges. Trudeau asked her to drop the charges – apparently about 10 times – and she refused.

    So he fired her.

Pakistan used proxy jihadis to attack India in a suicide bombing that killed 50 people and India just flat out went to war. There was nothing ‘proportional’ about it, they just rained hell from the air.

Israel has a rogue prosecutor trying to take Bibi down before the next election. I’m not saying Bibi is as pure as the driven snow – his wife, Sara, is probably a crook – but this one looks really political. Bribery? It’s ISRAEL, fer god’s sake, that’s what they do. So he fired her.

Bit more involved then that. A little piece of law was hidden in an omnibus budget bill that would let SNC Lavalin skate on corruption charges (DAP or Deferred Action Plan I think). Which would let them continue to bid on Federal contracts. A lot of the charges were corruption charges relating to Libya and Khadaffi.
So since she was the Attorney General who thought (for a change) to follow the law (she’s on record saying that the law needed to change after a farmer was acquited for the death of an aboriginal on his property attempting to steal a vehicle). She named names in a hearing yesterday and stated how she was asked to let things go and not to worry about how the media would react.

    So, yeah, nutshell.

The usual ‘script’ when NORKs deal with US Presidents is to lie about everything and double cross every agreement.

Not so this time. Trump and Pompeo had done their homework and verify and examine at every step was the plan. Kim was taken aback that ‘business as usual’ of screwing as much out of US Presidents and then backtracking on signed agreements didn’t work with Trump.

The next time or the next or the time after that we’ll see progress. In the meantime the NORKs are not threatening WWIII.

I saw a piece today that was inadvertently hilarious. It was meant to imply that somehow it has escaped the notice of the U.S. that the NORKS have satellites orbiting in a North-South orbit, making them invisible to our trackers and therefore a imminent threat for our nuclear destruction.

    I mean, I can’t even….

We know everything that’s up there, fer crying out loud. We know every launch that leaves the planet and if we don’t know the payload when it goes up, we figure it out soon enough.

And if we wanted those things gone, they’d be stardust.

Up to 75% of Pakistani Muslims (the largest Muslim population in the UK) marry their first cousins, which means their offspring are ten times more likely to be mentally and/or physically challenged. All of which means British taxpayers are forced to pay for costly medical care for these people for the rest of their lives. A third of children who suffer from rare recessive disorders in the UK come from this community, which represents just 1.5% of the total population. In Bradford, where 75% of the Pakistani Muslim community marry a cousin, as many as 10 % of children suffer from genetic abnormalities.

Given that WaPo is the PR arm of the Dem party, I’m inclined to believe this.

House Democrats explode in recriminations as liberals lash out at moderates

House Democrats exploded in recriminations Thursday over moderates bucking the party, with liberal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threatening to put those voting with Republicans “on a list” for a primary challenge.

In a closed-door session, a frustrated Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) lashed out at about two dozen moderates and pressured them to get on board. “We are either a team or we’re not, and we have to make that decision,” Pelosi said, according to two people present but not authorized to discuss the remarks publicly.

But Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), the unquestioned media superstar of the freshman class, upped the ante, admonishing the moderates and indicating she would help liberal activists unseat them in the 2020 election.

Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez, said she told her colleagues that Democrats who side with Republicans “are putting themselves on a list.”

“She said that when activists ask her why she had to vote for a gun safety bill that also further empowers an agency that forcibly injects kids with psychotropic drugs, they’re going to want a list of names and she’s going to give it to them,” Trent said, referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

There’s a lot more at the link, specifically about a neat little procedural rule the Rs are using called ‘motion to recommit’.

Also, the article seems to show Pelosi siding with the barn burners, not the moderates. I don’t know what to make of that.

    This is probably big

SCOTUS just ruled that the World Bank has no immunity

The Supreme Court of the United States has rejected World Bank claims of complete legal immunity, ruling that one of its arms can be sued in relation to lending activities.

The 7-1 ruling could also open other American-based international organizations to the threat of lawsuits over financing overseas development.

For the World Bank, it means that it now faces having to defend against a suit by members of a fishing community in Mundra, India, who contend that their homes and livelihoods were damaged by pollution from a coal power plant that was financed by the bank’s private sector lending arm, the Washington, D.C.-based International Finance Corporation

Sounds like an uprising of “Four legs good. Two legs bad.” The GOP has two legs and so does Trump. Armstrong is calling this ‘The politics of hate.” In fact he just said there is ZERO chance of government ever returning to normal. He is not prone to making such a sweeping statement.

It’s not going to be a super high-end custom job or anything. I’m curious to see just what you can do with the new Savage 110 platform and decent off-the-shelf components. I’m going to take it apart and put everything back together to the proper torque settings, probably glass bed the Picatinny rail, install a set of matched Vortex scope rings, lap them (if necessary, which it’s not supposed to be according to them), and make sure everything is properly leveled. Then I’m going to break the barrel in properly.

After all that, it will be time to see what it can do.

    @ coldwarrior:

Hard to go wrong with an S&W J-Frame. Pretty much defines the category.

They do come in a variety of materials, though. Personally, I’d stick with the steel frame, particularly for full-power loads. They make them in an alloy frame, as well as scandium (very pricey), but the extra weight of the steel frame makes them easier to shoot.

    @ coldwarrior:

One that I don’t recommend is the Bodyguard line. I had several students bring them to class, and they all wanted to trade them in by the time we were done. One of S&W’s biggest mistakes, in my opinion.

    @ coldwarrior:

About the only other suggestion I’d have is the Ruger LCR. Similar size and quality, might be a bit cheaper.

There’s also the Taurus 85, which is essentially a J-Frame clone. I’d recommend test-firing one (meaning that actual gun) before buying it, though. Their build quality can be variable. I’ve had one for years with no problems, but not everyone has had the same experience with them.

    @ lobo91:

i have a taurus in .357 with a barrel that is too long for carry. the build is fine, i’ve put through a few hundred round with no prob. it sits in the concealed bedside table drawer

I need expert opinion. Mrs coldwarrior needs a simple purse revolver.

She’s too fumbly with her makarov (ppk). Sadly.

mine is an S&W .38/642 and it’s perfect. It IS heavy for something so small. One of the reasons I like it is because the hammer is hidden so it doesn’t catch on anything if you insist on putting it in a purse. You’d think it wouldn’t be all that accurate with a barrel so short, but you’d be wrong. Also easy to clean

If anyone’s interested, the Iditarod starts today. 2 pm east coast time.

I actually do have a dog in this race. His name is Talese, he runs with Blair Braverman, who drew bib #11. It’s Blair’s first Iditarod, tho definitely not her first race.

If you want to follow Blair, use twitter hashtag #uglydogs, if you’re interested in the race generally, try the Anchorage Daily News, https://twitter.com/ADNIditarod, or Iditarod Insider, https://twitter.com/IditarodInsider
