Harley and Economic Propaganda

by coldwarrior ( 111 Comments › )
Filed under Economy, Open thread at April 25th, 2019 - 12:06 pm

The recent news has Harley-Davidson complaining about tariffs and the difficulties it causes for their profit. This is pure economic propaganda espoused by the company and the never-Trumpers.

Harley is losing market share and has declining profit because THEY REFUSE TO LOOK AT THE MARKET. It’s simple, does Cadillac still make the awesomely huge pimp-mobile El Dorado? Is Ford moving away from sedans? See how this goes? Look at your market and adjust to what sells. Harley makes an obnoxiously loud, heavy, expensive motorcycle that less and less people want. The Boomers are the last generation who will buy that bike at those numbers. I rode motorcycles for years and refused to own a Harley. Too heavy, too cumbersome, too expensive for what you get, and the owners tend toward being obnoxious look-at-me weekend warrior assholes who had to have loud pipes to draw attention to themselves and their shiny rattle. I would regularly put on 10k miles a year. That’s a lot for a motorcycle. The Harley riders rarely wave at anyone else other than other Harley riders. All other non-Harley motorcyclists wave to each other tho, as is custom. This myopic attitude is reflected in the management at Harley as well.

SO, does Harley adjust? Will they make a motorcycle to compete with the Japanese, English, and Germans? No, they won’t. They will take the arrogant way out and end up in bankruptcy because they can’t see that making an El Dorado will not sell in a market of fast and stylish CUV’s. I don’t think Harley is capable of seeing the market, partly because of an incredibly overblown ego and partly because, well…obnoxiousness, arrogance, and ignorance.

Don’t blame Trump, you chuckleheads…look in the mirror and look at your market.

funny thing, no one was going to show up according to some friends of mine. so he will ship in AFSCME and UFCW and SEIU types.

he is gunning for PA, where unemployment just hit the lowest number ever recorded. he’ll get he ‘commie public union’ vote but lose the trades and teamsters. trump is very popular with the steel workers, iron workers, coal miners, crafts, electricians, heavy machine operators, rail road, teamsters, etc…yinz know. the real workers not the AFSCME/SEIU public sector shitbags

Massachusetts Judge, Trial Court Officer Indicted On Federal Charges For Helping Illegal Alien Evade ICE Officer

Federal authorities are charging a Massachusetts District Court judge and a trial court officer with obstruction of justice and other crimes, according to an indictment obtained by 5 Investigates.

Judge Shelley M. Richmond Joseph and Wesley MacGregor, the trial court officer, are accused of conspiring to prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement from taking an immigrant into custody at Newton District Court on April 2, 2018.

The immigrant, who had been deported twice before, was arrested four days earlier for narcotics possession and being a fugitive from justice in Pennsylvania. When his fingerprints were taken, ICE became aware of the arrest.

ICE issued an order for a federal immigration detainer and sent an officer to the courthouse.

In the courtroom, Joseph ordered the courtroom recording device to be turned off for 52 seconds in order to conceal a conversation about getting the immigrant out of the courthouse, the indictment said.

According to the indictment filed by Lelling’s office, MacGregor agreed with the immigrant’s defense attorney to release the immigrant through a rear door in order to evade the federal officers. Joseph participated by creating a pretext for the immigrant to be brought downstairs for “further interview” so he could be released through that door, the indictment said.

Joseph and MacGregor face charges of obstruction of justice, conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of a federal proceeding, the indictment said. MacGregor is also charged with perjury on suspicion of giving false testimony to a federal grand jury that was reviewing the case.

“The allegations in today’s indictment involve obstruction by a sitting judge, that is intentional interference with the enforcement of federal law, and that is a crime,” Lelling said. “We cannot pick and choose the federal laws we follow, or use our personal views to justify violating the law.”

    oh goody.

Mike Pence’s chief of staff’s wife was working for – wait for it – Peter Stzrok.

The texts and sources reveal that Strzok had one significant contact within the White House – Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff Joshua Pitcock, whose wife was working as an analyst for Strzok on the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server. A senior White House official told this news site that Pitcock’s wife recused herself from the Clinton investigation as soon as Pence and Trump became the Republican nominees in July 2016. A senior law enforcement official also told SaraACarter.com that Pitcock’s wife no longer worked under Strzok after she recused herself from the Clinton investigation.

But she recused herself. uh huh. She was the ‘back channel’ Strzok used to brief Pence on Flynn. Jesus.

    @ eaglesoars:

OK, you know when a breaker trips you have to then move it to the “off” position to reset it before it will turn on again.

    Breakers trip for a reason.

Disconnect everything on that circuit except for a table lamp.

Then if you reset the breaker and the table lamp flashes briefly or not at all and the breaker trips again you may have a short in the house wiring.

Breakers are plug in. Try swapping it with a breaker from another circuit.

If the swapped in breaker trips you definitely have a house wiring short somewhere.

I thought of that. And I did try resetting every GFI I can find. But Hubby decided to go to bed early and in the mood he’s in, that’s a damn good birthday present, so I’m not going to try to fix anything. Also, I have no idea what’s plugged into what circuit. I’m fine w/o TV for a day or 2, I usually use it as my caller id so I don’t have to run to the phone, it’s on mute. And in a few minutes, Hubby is going to be on mute, too, which is even better.

Ok, I have names. Pence’s chief of staff was Josh Pitcock, left in Aug 2017. His wife is one Katherine Seaman, I don’t know if she’s still FBI.

The way I’m reading this, Pitcock was a bit of an FBI mole during his tenure but that may be a bit too strong a word.

Those are dots, we’re not sure how they’re connected. He may have been pure as the driven snow.

First quarter GDP increases 3.2 percent, beating 2.5 percent estimates

The U.S. economy grew at a faster pace than expected in the first quarter and posted its best growth to start a year in six years.

First-quarter GDP expanded by 3.2% in the first quarter, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said in its initial read of the economy for that period. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected the U.S. economy increased by 2.5% in the first quarter. It was the first time since 2013 that first-quarter GDP topped 3%.

“The upside beat was helped by net trade (exports jumped while imports contracted sharply) and inventories which combined contributed almost 170 bps of the rise,” wrote Peter Boockvar, chief investment officer at Bleakley Advisory Group. “Personal spending though, the biggest component was up just 1.2%, two tenths more than expected as an increase in spending on services and nondurable goods offset a decline in spending on durable goods.”

Actually, she stole that idea from AOC. Remember when AOC was talking about legalization and she said licenses should first go to minorities because they had suffered the most from weed being illegal? Unfortunately, Colorado is a lot whiter than the Bronx, so she’d probably have to import some people from the cartels or something.

    https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/27666/what-the-hell-is-going-on-with-ufos-and-department-of-defense

Included in the discussion is the Tic-Tac incident of 2004, lasting SEVERAL DAYS. Which I knew nothing about, a disgrace if I say so myself.

When it comes to the so-called “Tic Tac” incident that involved the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group off the Baja Peninsula in 2004, conclusions that are nearly impossible not to draw from it are so reality warping that even the forward-thinking aerospace community doesn’t seem to have even begun coming to terms with them.

The main revelation is that technology exists that is capable of performing flying maneuvers that shatter our perceptions of propulsion, flight controls, material science, and even physics. Let me underline this again for you, the Nimitz encounter with the Tic Tac proved that exotic technology that is widely thought of as the domain of science fiction actually exists. It is real. It isn’t the result of altered perception, someone’s lucid dream, a stray weather balloon, or swamp gas. Someone or something has crossed the technological Rubicon and has obtained what some would call the Holy Grail of aerospace engineering.

Also Lucas after 1996 is an American company.

Really doesn’t matter where the fuse is as long as the fuse or breaker trip when there is a short. You can just as easily get sparks and fire if the fuse is in the plug as if it were on the main.

the vids are bad enough. Worse is – how did the Air Force get there? Those pilots weren’t even out of their flight gear

I’d like to think that maybe they’re ours. But then why would we piss away so much on stuff like F-35s that seems to have too many bells/whistles (from what I’ve read, I don’t know anything)

    @ AZfederalist:

And there I rest my case. Sometimes a problem is not a “short” it is an overload.

A 15 amp breaker will not trip at a 16 amp load. Breakers are thermally activated.

I would bet money that a 15 amp breaker would take five or more minutes to trip at 30 amps.

Meanwhile, a lamp cord rated at 2 amps has been cooking all that time….

Oh and before this starts to get into a stupid pissing contest. A lamp with a ten foot cord that is rated at 2 amps and there is a dead short at the bulb DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A DEAD SHORT!!!!!!

The 20 foot 2 amp cord (there and back) looks like a 1500W heater.

That is how houses catch fire….

Fed greed is infinite. They even get paid interest on every dollar printed. As long as the U.S. dollar is the global reserve currency, the scam continues. This isn’t good:

Insurgents Seek to Oust Wayne LaPierre in N.R.A. Power Struggle

Turmoil racking the National Rifle Association is threatening to turn the group’s annual convention into outright civil war, as insurgents maneuver to oust Wayne LaPierre, the foremost voice of the American gun rights movement.

The confrontation pits Mr. LaPierre, the organization’s longtime chief executive, against its recently installed president, Oliver L. North, the central figure in the Reagan-era Iran-contra affair, who remains a hero to many on the right.

Behind it is a widening crisis involving a legal battle between the N.R.A. and its most influential contractor, Ackerman McQueen, amid renewed threats from regulators in New York, where the N.R.A. is chartered, to investigate the group’s tax-exempt status. With contributions lagging, the N.R.A. is also facing an increasingly well-financed gun control movement, motivated by a string of mass shootings.

Mr. North asked Mr. LaPierre to resign on Wednesday, according to documents reviewed by The New York Times. He said he had also created a committee to review allegations of financial improprieties that threaten the N.R.A.’s status as a nonprofit organization.

But Mr. LaPierre, in a stinging letter sent on Thursday night to the N.R.A.’s board, accused Mr. North of threatening to leak damaging information about him and other N.R.A. executives unless he stepped down.

“Yesterday evening, I was forced to confront one of those defining choices — styled, in the parlance of extortionists — as an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Mr. LaPierre wrote. “I refused it.”

North is reportedly out as president, as of today.

Wayne’s been the day-to-day head of the organization for decades. The president is primarily a figurehead.

I had high hopes for North as president. He was much more hands-on than previous ones. Of course, that might have been the source of the friction between him and Wayne, too.
