The Children’s Hour – Congressional Edition

There once was a time when giving testimony to a Congressional Committee was a serious affair.  HUAC.  McCarthy.  Keefauver.  Quiz Show Scandals.  Valachi.  You look at the old recordings.  Serious men (and occasionally women) giving testimony in earnest, laying the facts before equally serious men and women.  The nation’s business and the nation’s interests, taken seriously by those charged with its oversight and care.

Now we get idiot celebrities like Sally Field lecturing us on the problems of the independent small widder woman farmer, because she starred in a movie – Places in the Heart.  I guess having an ACTUAL widder woman farmer testify without the benefit of a Hollywood script was just not camera-worthy.  Or Meryl Streep expounding on the dangers of pesticides.  Because her credentials as a chemical engineer and the possible dangers of contaminants are so widely recognized.

But this week, Congress outdid itself.  Fresh off the national TV buttkicking they received at the hands of one Corey Lewendowski, they couldn’t help themselves.  They paraded an autistic hand puppet from Sweden, whose parents are so brilliant they thought bringing her to the American shores in a racing boat in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season was a stroke of brilliance.  Post-testimony, she and her parents sported pro-Antifa t-shirts, which is REALLY going to endear them to the American people.

Then we got the drama queen that was so riddle with angst over the destruction of the planet that she lives in a perpetual state of fear and can’t complete her college applications.  Okay.  Well, don’t complete them, Sarah Bernhardt.  Think of the 0ppressive college debt you won’t incur and you can get a head start on your future career as a manager of Starbucks.  I have a feeling you weren’t going to major in meteorology anyway.

This was all capped off with a “skip school” day to march for climate change.  That was largely ignored by everyone except useful idiots, politicians and Jack Dorsey at Twitter.  I have a feeling that on the coasts, the majority of the absent students were at the beach, Disneyland and Coney Island.

I don’t like being preached to by this latest generation of sheep whose only achievement so far in life was passing their driver’s license road test.  But as OUR parents used to say, time to put your money with your mouth is.  So for those climate angst ridden sad sacks, I offer your redemption.  You want to stop the climate from changing, here is YOUR “Green New Deal”.

(1)  Bicycle or walk everywhere.  To school.  To the mall.  To the movies.  And forget vacations.  No more flying on those evil plans.  Hope there’s lots of fun things to do within a 50-mile radius.  Although if you want to do Spring Break in Ft. Lauderdale, I think if you start walking now, you’ll be there in time.  Exhausted.  But you’ll be there.

(2).  Oh, and forget being warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  After all, air conditioning and heat are KILLING! THE! PLANET!  Bundle up, homies. After all, those Eskimos that are desperately trying to stay out of sight of the increasing Polar Bear population LIVE in houses made of ice – certainly you can put on some layers and get through those 25-degree nights.  Same goes for summer – have you SEEN how those desert nomads dress in the summer?  Surely you can muscle through without living in a home cooled to a comfortable 72.

(3). And when you ask Mommy and Daddy for that car on your sixteenth birthday (and you KNOW you will, you little hypocrites), be prepared to be gifted with a Prius with about two to three years of battery life left.  You didn’t think you were going to get one of those nifty electric/hybird/natural gas wonders, did you?  Have you seen the price tag on those things.  You could have purchased a house for that amount of money in the 80’s.  And when the battery finally dies, enjoy the $15,000 replacement battery price tag and start formulating your prayer of apology to Mother Gaia for dumping the old one into her.

(4). If any of you think having a tofu burger is going to be as satisfying as a Whopper, then your taste buds are as impaired as your emotional development.  By the way, it’s only BEEF cows that fart?  DAIRY cows don’t? Or are you planning to do away with those as well?  If so, you can explain to the future generations of children who suffer from poor nerve myelinization because milk fats weren’t available to complete the process by the tw0-year developmental deadline.  And kiss ice cream goodbye.  And sorry, ice cream should be its own food group.  Like bacon.  And chocolate

(5). You may only use power derived for renewable resources.  All I can say is it’s going to be VERY hard to charge that iPhone when the Earth Goddess dumps two feet of snow on your solar panels.  Or, if you live in California – when you get three weeks of rain after Jerry Brown PROMISE you the drought was never going to end.

(6)  You may use NOTHING that is derived from petroleum products.  Shopping should be done in five minutes at Forever 21.

I’m sure to the Climate Change Chicken Littles I’m a nasty ol’ mean granny who doesn’t care that their angst ridden over their future and the future of the planet.  I mean the ocean could rise a FOOT and the temperature could rise one DEGREE in the next 100 years (brought to you by the same people who two weeks ago couldn’t accurately predict the path of a hurricane).

You’re right.  I wouldn’t understand what it’s like to think the world was going to end.  I only had to live with the Cold War and the shadow of the mushroom cloud.  And those 13 days one October when Russia was attempting to park nuclear missiles 90 miles away from Miami.

sorry for the OT Barbarian, I just heard this. If you get to watch Chris Wallace’s show later today, don’t miss it. Guiliani is first up. Talking about Biden. Don’t have time for details, but guess who traveled to China with Biden, Biden’s son, and Kerry’s step-son?

    Whitey Bulgar’s nephew.

    @ The Barbarian:

here’s a legal question: If this ‘whistleblower’ has LEGALLY claimed whistleblower status and is now shown to have no more than ‘rumor spreading prick’ status, has said person violated a law in claiming protected status?

as for the subject at hand – we have to start going after the parents. That little Khmer Rouge chickie who was screaming all day? Yeah, find mom and dad. I PROMISE you, over 50% of those kids who cut class were at the mall or the beach. But find mom and dad of the true believers and ask them why they let their spawn use fossil fuels to protest fossil fuels and SMARTPHONES?

We should be giving a whole new meaning to doxing. Those kids are props, go after the producers.

  6. 6 | September 22, 2019 11:18 am

    @ eaglesoars:

If she does not meet the whistlerblower standard, she will not enjoy the protections legally granted. And since it appears she doesn’t have direct knowledge of the subject matter she blabbed about, she can be held up on whatever charges the DOJ wants to level at her. Although until I see some other indictments start coming down the pike on the FISA, emails, attempted coup front, I’m not holding my breath,

Totally agree on the parents. This is a generation that really faced no real threats – the Cold War was over, there was no longer a war being fought in Southeast Asia and the resultant draft. Sure they witnessed 9/11 in real time, but these whiny twits that were constantly looking for something to bother them were far removed and for them, once the event and initial panic was over, it was over. So they needed a CAUSE. Al Gore and the other idiots gave them one and they’ve promoted unnecessary anxiety onto their kids.

You could argue that “mass shootings” is causing anxiety, but frankly that’s a media hype problem and politician based crisis too. To hear them talk, they happen on a daily basis. After the University of Texas Tower shooting, we were not baraged with speculation that there will be another one. We attributed to the real source – a mentally unbalanced and evil man.

Not even that He had a brain tumor

I think there’s a connection between mass shooters and the other oddity I’ve noted – the leaders of the Children’s Crusade seem to be predominately female. Any male in the picture is consigned to a supportive role (turning pages, where do I hurl).

We are – no, not ‘we’ – ‘feminist’ women have made it a goal to immasculate men, to devalue and demonize. Their functions as fathers and husbands are dismissed as unnecessary if not actually harmful.

This is what you get. Adolescent males looking for a purpose, in whatever twisted fashion, and hatchling vagina-entitled females who think they are priestesses of Gaia when they couldn’t raise a puppy.

These two women are going to Hell. The sooner the better

NYT reporters: Blasey Ford claim still credible because friend has substance abuse history

“However, we still find Christine Blasey Ford credible in the end and you will see why,” Kelly said. “Keyser’s claims don’t rebut Blasey Ford’s claims and also Keyser has memory issues discussed in the book, as well, which relate to the way memory functions for all of us and also because she has a history of substance abuse, which she acknowledges. So, I think it’s important for all of these things to be seen in the full context.”

Yeah, Leyland Keyser’s substance abuse is due to back injuries sustained during her career as a professional golfer. She is a RECOVERING abuser. Her issues are not contemporaneous with the claims made by Blasey-Ford and everybody who knew Blasey-Ford back then said HER drinking was over the top. But let’s not question HER memory.

If you thought Trump was going to be able to lose the ‘white supremacist’ label because he went to Texas with some brown guy from India, you would be wrong

<b?How the White Nationalists Who Love Trump Found Inspiration in the Group That Gave Us Narendra Modi

QUESTION: WHAT IS the connection between controversial Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi — who is visiting Houston this Sunday for the “Howdy, Modi” summit, as well as a meeting with President Donald Trump — and a spate of white nationalist terrorist attacks across the West?

    and then there’s this…

India’s Petronet to sign $2.5 billion LNG deal with U.S. developer Tellurian: sources

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – India’s Petronet LNG is set to sign a deal with U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) developer Tellurian Inc worth more than $2 billion in the proposed Driftwood project in Louisiana, two sources told Reuters.

This will be part of wider cooperation between both countries, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Houston this weekend to discuss ways to deepen their energy and trade relationship.

India could increase its trade footprint at a time when the United States and China are in the midst of a tit-for-tat trade war, analysts have said.

Petronet will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Tellurian on Saturday to invest $2.5 billion for rights of up to 5 million tonnes a year of LNG over the lifespan of the project, two sources familiar with the matter said.

    ————

The Houston Chronicle sez it’s one of the largest LNG deals in U.S. history.

Most times you’d be correct however these two particular cultists have been ‘at it’ for the past 13 centuries of which 12 centuries didn’t involve competing on the petroleum market. They kill each other over a ‘familial spat regarding who gets to lead Islam. Psst….Maverick’s isn’t off a beach – it’s a cliff called “Pillar Point” in Half Moon Bay. And a little trivia – it was named after the German Shepherd that belonged to the three surfers who discovered it. And it is BREATHTAKING and terrifying to watch when it’s going off.

Several surfers have died at Mavs – notably Mark Foo. That sudden undersea drop and reef that causes the wave is deadly because most surfers from out of town don’t really realize its there.

There is a BOAT LOAD of stuff going on. Another deal with Japan, something about removing or lowering tariffs on pork, etc., and other stuff. The cultural insult to China that this represents cannot be dismissed. Trump has apparently put a sweet deal on the table for Boris Johnson and Johnson is saying there will be a deal. And only one place have I seen what you and I knew HAD to happen – China has already lost. Because it lied about its economy in the first place, saying it was more robust than it actually is, China has much less padding to cushion the downturn than people realized/admitted . If Iran thinks fucking around with the oil supply is winning friends and influencing people, Xi is on line 2, he’s not happy.

All of which begs the question – what does L’il Kim do when China starts to collapse? My guess is he doesn’t go the way of the Castros, letting his aspirations for global glory fade away. My guess is that he can’t get the Chinese carrot, he no longer fears the stick. He picks up the phone.

The last time I was in the Virgin Islands I was snorkeling off the beach and got nailed in the back of the head by a wave. It was like getting hit by a 2×4 and my sister had to come in and get me out. You don’t really understand how much power is in that water until it’s too late. Surfing will not be going on my bucket list.

Oh, in all the domestic excitement I missed this. Merkel announced a new ‘climate package’ for the EU last week

    Look at this swill.

Fossil fuel use is to be discouraged through a national emissions trading scheme for the transport and buildings sectors, complementing an existing European system for energy and industry.

This will increase the cost of petrol and diesel, though long-distance commuters will be compensated with tax breaks.

The polluter-pays scheme encourages businesses and consumers to use green
energy and technology in order to avoid the direct or indirect cost of right-to-pollute certificates.

A tonne of CO2 emissions will initially be priced at a symbolic €10 from 2021, and this is set to rise to €35 by 2025.

After that, the emission rights will be auctioned within a range of €35 to €60.

A maximum emission quantity for Germany will be decided and then decreased year by year, while the auction mechanism will set the price of CO2 according to demand and supply of emission permits.

If anybody believes the ‘decreased year by year’ bit, we have TONS of bridges for sale over here.

Do read the rest, as the part about getting rid of nuclear is especially quaint.

    Here is the Apple announcement

As part of its commitment to US economic growth, Apple today confirmed that its newly redesigned Mac Pro will be manufactured in Austin, Texas. This latest generation Mac Pro, which was unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June, will begin production soon at the same Austin facility where Mac Pro has been made since 2013.
The new Mac Pro will include components designed, developed and manufactured by more than a dozen American companies for distribution to US customers. Manufacturers and suppliers across Arizona, Maine, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Vermont, including Intersil and ON Semiconductor, are providing advanced technology. The US manufacturing of Mac Pro is made possible following a federal product exclusion Apple is receiving for certain necessary components. The value of American-made components in the new Mac Pro is 2.5 times greater than in Apple’s previous generation Mac Pro.

St Joan of Arc of the Children’s Crusade against Carbon, Greta Thunberg, should be going to Beijing or Bangalore and staging her protests there instead of, or at least in addition to, Sweden or New York. She should be hounding President Xi and Prime Minister Modi about their shameful emissions. She should be leading throngs of Asian kids out of schools for her Friday student strikes. She should be castigating the industries and the consumers of the developing world for destroying the planet and killing humanity in the process. She should be doing all this if she were serious about the global nature of the problem. But I won’t be holding my breath.

Well, the left has staked out their newest position. Opposition to the newest Rambo movie. Currently the “professionals” have it at 25% on rotten tomatoes and the actual people have it at 85%, sound familiar? One site claims it’s a recruitment film for white supremicist terrorists. Another says it’s a maga masturbation film. The creator of rambo David Morell (insane NeverTrumper) says he wanted Stallone to do a “sensitive” film as an “antidote” to the “evils” of Trumpism but Stallone didn’t listen to him.

Yeah, this is the guy who in the book First Blood “solved” Rambos PTSD the Old Yeller way. Thank god he didn’t make policy for the VA. Though I know the dems are still working on a way to make that palatable for the general public.

<em?. Western Europeans dislike themselves. They are unable to overcome their self-disgust and feel the pride in their heritage and the self-respect that is so strikingly evident in the United States. Modern Europe is instead mired in shame shrouded in moralizing discourse. It has convinced itself that, since all the evils of the twentieth century arose from its feverish bellicosity, it’s about time it redeemed itself and sought something like a reawakened sense of the sacred in its guilty conscience.

Her Asperges reinforces whatever initial worldview is implanted first. Alas her parents have used her as a sock puppet for their own radical views of climate and thoughts of impending doom. That is imprinted on this child’s brain and any alternative view is immediately opposed as the level of her cognitive dissonance rises to breaking point. You’ve got to feel sorry for the child who is being used so cruelly by both her parents and the political mandarins, operating to pull her strings behind the scenes. I don’t know what to make of this. Banks are in the profit-making business, not the save-the-world-virtue business. Something in this story is really off, but I don’t know what it is

Around 130 international banks, all present at the UN climate change summit in New York, have committed themselves to decrease their support and investments in the oil and gas sector the coming years. The banking groups have signed the so-called Principles for Responsible Banking, which entails a promise by financial institutions to fully support the implementation of the Paris Agreement, by decreasing hydrocarbon investments while promoting renewables. This statement is going to be a major earthquake for oil and gas companies, threatening upstream and downstream operations worldwide, forcing oil & gas producers to either reduce their impact on the environment or to seek new sources of investment. It is already becoming more difficult for oil and gas companies to find new financing, and on top of this, a large group of institutional investors, representing a value of $11 trillion, are already actively divesting their oil and gas assets.

International banks, such as Deutsche Bank, ABNAmro, Citigroup, Barclays, and ING, are joining the framework. Under the title of action against global warming, the largest financial institutions now seem to be headbutting oil and gas operators. The impact of activist shareholders and NGOs is sending shockwaves through the sector. If the framework is successfully implemented, the hydrocarbon sector shouldn’t fear unrest in the Middle East, but rather their current financiers.

Ok, I keep seeing references to the Fixed Term Parliaments Act and having no clue what it is, I asked. Here’s the bottom line on what happens next in the UK. Basically I asked why Boris and the Queen can’t simply dissolve Parliament and called a general election

When we had the Cameron/Clegg coalition government in 2010 part of the deal between the parties was that they would legislate to prevent the PM from being able to call an election (previously the PM could call an election at any time). This was done to make the coalition stable. A law, “Fixed Term Parliaments Act” was passed in which an election happens every 5 years unless 66.66% of Parliament votes for an early one. The law also abolished the Queen’s right to dissolve Parliament. Parliament can now only be dissolved by Parliament.

We did at the time try to tell them that this law was completely retarded and at the very least should expire after 5 years. We were of course ignored because we’re ignorant peasants.

Today’s ruling means that the Queen has lost further prerogative power (to suspend parliament) if the Supreme Court doesn’t like it. So we now have a Parliament that cannot be dissolved or suspended unless it wants to be. Which it doesn’t because it will get annihilated at an election.

The next play will be to force Boris out of office (via a parliamentary vote) and put in a coalition of remainders as the government – there might not even be a PM – and delay Brexit by 6 months then start legislating for rigging a 2nd referendum (they might not bother with the referendum and just have rolling extensions). Meanwhile they will pass all sorts of draconian laws to rig an election which would then occur in 2022.

Oh man, if the House is counting on that Volume II of the report for “obstruction”, they’re really screwed. Andrew Weissman is one of the most ethically challenged BS artists out there. What they won’t realize, until it’s too late, is that Andy boy probably left out a boatload of exculpatory evidence and that his summary of the situations won’t bear any similarity of reality.

And I think the moment they do this, Trump is going to say “declassify everything about the FISA warrant. And release all the transcripts.” They don’t get it – he played them for SUCKERS. He knows the truth of it all. Now they’re going to look like the witch hunters they are.

Meanwhile, I think the Senate should launch an inquiry into Joe and Hunter Biden’s dealings with China and Ukraine and goodness knows where else.

    @ eaglesoars:

They’re going to have so much effing EGG on their faces over this. Rudy Giuliani says there’s VIDEO evidence of the Biden’s malfeasance.

I’m starting to think this is a desperation goal-post move. Most of the country is NOT in favor of impeachment and there is nothing to indicate that he did anything improper in that phone call. After all, the so-called whistleblower doesn’t have direct knowledge. What are they going to do if NO ONE comes forward and confirms the allegations? What are they going to do if the transcript doesn’t bear it out? They’re neck deep in this now.

I’m wondering if they are really, really terrified of the revelations of the investigation into the Obama Administration’s illegal actions to the Trump campaign – that there is evidence that Obama KNEW about these illegal actions and approved them. That all these people are about to be indicted for illegal activities. All they can do now is try to disparage the reputation of the Administration’s DOJ and FBI.

It can’t be they’re worried about Biden – they want him out of the race to begin with. And if I were Biden, I’d start worrying about what evidence they DO have.

I think the Dems may be worried about what BIDEN has. He was up close & personal with the most corrupt Pres ever and he knows where everything is buried. Trump will expose all of it

CNN reporting 157 votes for impeachment inquiry.

There is a story that Trump admin ALLOWED reporter to face arrest in Egypt. from NYT. not sure of any other details.

ok, got it. The NYT is leaving the impression that Declan Walsh is American. He is not. He is an Irish citizen. They were directed to the Embassy of Ireland.

And…Trump just ordered the release of the full and unredacted transcript of his conversation with the President of the Ukraine.

So much for your effing WHISTLEBLOWER, Fat Jerry.

    @ right_wing2:

They’re saying he’ll doctor the transcripts. Right now, I think there are two people who are sweating. One is going to be Joe Biden, because for all his posturing, I don’t think he really wanted them to open this Pandora’s Box – it’s not just Ukraine he has a a problem with – an even bigger iceberg is the whole business with China.

And the whistleblower is going to have some problems as well. Because when that transcript is released, she/he is going to have some explaining to do as to what was so “untoward” about the phone call.

Personally, I think Trump and Co. laid a trap for them. They withheld the idiot squealer and the Democrats played right into it.

Well, earlier today Pelosi said “no quid pro quo is necessary” so I guess they think they can impeach for talking to the guy

And this is – odd. Bijan Raflekian was somehow involved in the Flynn/FARA/Turkey/Intel case. It looks like he co-owned Flynn’s company. He was convicted in July on 2 charges and the court has just acquitted him.

Insufficient evidence. New trial ordered. Another interesting tidbit -that op-ed on Turkey that was published in The Hill under Flynn’s name -was actually written by this guy.
