Friday Open, RIP Robert Hunter

Robert Hunter, Lyricist for the Grateful Dead, passed this week. It’s a sad day here.

One can read his lyrics in the book ‘A Box of Rain’ as poetry.

From the article:
Dappled with David Grisman’s sunny mandolin, “Ripple” came together during the Festival Express tour of summer 1970 and served as centerpiece of “American Beauty,” the second album of cosmic Americana the Dead delivered that year. “Ripple” is a song about writing a song, and it includes references to birth and death and the path leading from the former to the latter. Key lyric: “Let it be known there is a fountain / That was not made by the hands of man,” which Hunter characterized to Rolling Stone in 2015 as “pretty much my favorite line I ever wrote,” adding: “And I believe it, you know?”

Ripple
Grateful Dead

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they’re better left unsung
I don’t know, don’t really care
Let there be songs to fill the air

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone
If you should stand then who’s to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home

Well, isn’t THIS convenient – Sean Davis reporting this on Twitter:

BREAKING: The intelligence community secretly eliminated a requirement that whistleblower complaints contain only direct, first-hand knowledge of wrongdoing allegations.

A new version of the complaint form allowing hearsay was secretly revised last month.

When asked when the parameters were changed in relation to this complaint, intell community refused to answer. Schiffty’s fingerprints are all over this.

I am going to need to revise my column. This reeks to high heaven of collusion on the part of Congress and the intel community.

    This is absurd.

Gut Intel and fed law enforcement and start over.

    The pensions away too.

  7. 7 | September 27, 2019 5:34 pm

    @ coldwarrior:

This is why Schiffty held on to that intel and reframed the complaint even though they got it in August. They had to have time to change the rules so that second-hand information would qualify as a whistleblower and they can hide this dirtbag’s identity.

Also, you will never ever convince me that Schiffty intended that fairy tale he spun about the contents of the phone call were intended as “parody”. He intended people tuning in to believe that this garbage was the phone call. I am, however, pissed as hell that not ONE Republican interrupted this dirtbag to call him out of it, House “Rules” be damned. Get it on the damned record.

to be clear – how many intel agencies are there? Was this done at the DNI level to cover ALL of them? Because Coates was DNI and Susan Gordon was his 2nd and she was apparently the source for this

    More from Sean Davis

I talked to a DNI official and asked when these revisions were made and why. The official said the intelligence community would not comment on anything to do with the anti-Trump whistleblower.

I never mentioned or asked about the anti-Trump whistleblower.

  31. 31 | September 27, 2019 7:10 pm

And on that note – Volker has just resigned as U.S. Special Envoy to the Ukraine.

Child Rape Suspects Released In New York & New Jersey After Local Jails Refuse To Hold Men For ICE

Federal immigration officials say two alleged child rapists are on the run after authorities in New York and New Jersey refused to hold the suspects in jail for ICE.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Mexican nationals were each taken into custody for separate incidents in the Tri-State Area on charges they sexually assaulted a minor.

Despite requests that the men be held in jail until officers from ICE could pick them up, local law enforcement in both states released the suspects back into the public.

ICE says the first man — Luciano Trejo-Dominguez – was arrested by Vineland, New Jersey police for allegedly restraining and sexually assaulting a child younger than 16 on Aug. 12.

Over the next two days, ICE and Pacific Enforcement Response Center both filed detainers to have Trejo-Dominguez held at the Cumberland County Jail. Those requests were denied and the alleged rapist was released on Aug. 23.

Trejo-Dominguez has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault of a victim 13-15 years-old, criminal restraint, criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The other man – Joaquin Rodriguez Quiroz – was arrested by police in New York’s Westchester County on 3rd-degree rape charges on Sept. 6.

Quiroz allegedly raped a minor under 17 years-old, which is a class-E felony in New York.

ICE again lodged a detainer request with the Westchester County Jail on Sept. 7, but the Mexican national was released after posting bond.

I assume they think they’re safe under some sort of ‘qualified immunity’ law and they may well be.

That has to change. If you violate your oath (upholding the laws) you should be legally liable for the consequences. Accessory to rape of a minor, etc.
