NCAA Week 7 Football 2019 and OPEN THREAD

IT’S AN OPEN

15/30 so far…1000/$1000. I was 1/4 last week. I’m doing much better this year than last. Last year at this point I was 29/57 750/$100. I’m even as of now, %50 right, %50 wrong. 15 winner and 15 losers. And I corrected a math error 15/30 is even with each bet at $100, not $200 down. I gotta quit trying to do this on my phone.

I started looking at the games Tuesday night:

Friday Night:

#20 Virginia at Miami – Fri, Oct 11, 8:00 PM ET…as of Tuesday night, VA was a 2.5 dog. I’ll take that for the Cavs to beat the spread.

Saturday:

#6 Oklahoma at #11 Texas – Sat, Oct 12, 12:00 PM ET…Betradar has OK as 11.5 point favorites…In THIS GAME??? no way. Texas beats that spread.

#1 Alabama at #24 Texas A&M – Sat, Oct 12, 3:30 PM ET…as of TUesday there is no line. The line is 17.5. TAMU can beat that spread.

USC at #9 Notre Dame – Sat, Oct 12, 7:30 PM ET…USC is an 11 point dog on the road at the Catholics in Indiana. ‘SC won’t beat this spread.

#10 Penn State at #17 Iowa – Sat, Oct 12, 7:30 PM ET…PSU is a 3 point favorite and will beat this spread on the road.

#7 Florida at #5 LSU – Sat, Oct 12, 8:00 PM ET…The Gators are 14 point dogs at Death Valley and beat the spread.

I really wish the NFL would forget that Thursday Night Football game and give us an excellent NCAA matchup in its place. THAT I would watch.

    @ The Barbarian:

anybody who hates Tucker Carlson? Because that’s what this was about. Shep apparently was dumb enough to give management a ‘him or me’ ultimatum. Whatever the views may be of Murdochs the Younger, don’t threaten them.

  5. 5 | October 11, 2019 4:34 pm

    @ eaglesoars:

Really? I do love your insider info! Did he REALLY believe that Fox would pick him over Tucker? He’s AWFUL!!!

    HEH!

    @ eaglesoars:

FOX has a sullied name for Democrats. They think it’s a station for right wing bigots. I can’t see FOX suddenly becoming respectable to the readers of the NYT and the New Yorker. I don’t know about the West Coast, but the East Coast is not going to flock over to FOX. Tucker is still trusted by the right, but the few Republicans I know will listen to Rush and other people as FOX drifts left. Hopefully FOX will drift off to irrelevance. The Murdochs don’t need the money. anyway. 🙂 It’s a vanity project.

LONG LIVE PODCASTS. Unless youtube shuts down all the conservatives.
Another venue will eventually pop up, but so far Patreon seems to struggle because it costs money.

    Nope it’s not.

By lying to make their case they expose themselves as liars to anyone reasonable and logical. It does these liars harm to not only themselves but also their cause by allowing them to expose their lies.

I don’t know. From what can observe, “I saw it on TV or I read it in the newspaper” seems to be holding minds in thrall. In Yenta’s world, everyone will have to watch the movie “The Matrix” once per week until they GET A CLUE.

    🙂

Now if he was an ACTUAL socialist he’d donate his ill gotten capitalistic gains to the cause, don black mask and storm the barricades.

I don’t think his socialism stretches to storming barricades and such. Like the Hillarys and Bernies and Nancys of the world they have grown too used to the creature comforts, as they leave the ‘storming stuff’ to lesser comrades.

The talkin heads in the msm have nothing but money in the game. Not that we all would like piles of it, but they all operate from self centered ego. One of the reasons I love people like Dan Bongino is that they have another type of skin in the game. Yesterday he said “My bucket list is checked off.” i.e. he’s not afraid to name names or cringe in fear. He’s armed and dangerous.

In the end he turns on them all. My bet is Giuliani is the next one to be called names by the POTUS.

Cohen Before: “a fine person with a wonderful family.”

After: “If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!” “a weak person,” “not a very smart person,” a “bad lawyer,” and “a fraudster.”

Steve Bannon Before: chief strategist, which Trump created just for him calling him “tough and smart.”

After: “Sloppy Steve” who “cried when he got fired and begged for his job.”

Omarosa Manigault Newman Before: a “loyal friend,” and trusted confidante

After: “not smart” “lowlife” and earned the nickname “wacky Omarosa.” He said he’d only kept her around because she said nice things about him.

Jerome Powell Before: “He’s strong, he’s committed, he’s smart,” . “I am confident that with Jay as a wise steward of the Federal Reserve, it will have the leadership it needs in the years to come.”

After: Powell is “clueless” and “letting us down.”

If the US Navy just patented it, then they already have a fully functional version. Its probably what is powering the newest Virginia Class Submarine i.e. The USS South Dakota.

So much for our natural gas-fueled heating system. A frantic Google search tells me that, while these systems indeed depend on gas, they’re designed to automatically shut off during power outages.

PG&E warned customers that they would be without power for SEVERAL DAYS after the dangerous fire conditions subside because “every inch” of their electric system must be inspected by thousands of workers by ground and helicopter before the electric grid can be reactivated

    oh man

ok, this is bullshit. This is a set up for martial law

The People’s Republic of California is at it again; through unelected state officials, California is severing ties to ham radio repeater owners throughout the state, jeopardizing the lives of millions of Californians who depend on these repeaters to operate during emergencies.

Last month, repeater operators were sent emails telling them the State would no longer allow them to operate repeaters on public land without paying substantial rental fees. In the letter sent by CAL FIRE, the state claims Ham operators no longer provide a benefit to the state or public safety. They claimed that “constantly changing technological advances” has made Ham radio obsolete during an emergency.

California Officials declare Ham Radio no longer a benefit; Demands Ham radio repeater infrastructure to be Removed

$5 billion will not be directed to getting people out of cars (walking, biking, mass transit). In other words, graft

Of course there is. And it aint difficult to understand either.

    a) Turkey used to be the capital of the Ottoman Empire
    b) Turkey wants to restart the Ottoman Empire
    c) Syria is the gateway to Israel
    d) Israel stands in the way of Turkey restarting the Ottoman Empire.

I dunno. Germany is in flux and I think their Turk population is 5% – not nothing. Germany doesn’t keep tabs by ethnicity so it’s hard to tell. Maybe 4 million.

You know what I realized the other night? Remember that ‘coup’ a few years ago that Erdogan put down? Didn’t he basically decapitate his military? Like Stalin before WW II? I haven’t seen any analysis of Turkey’s military command structure since that, how reliable it is, etc. For all I know they’ve got Generals in there who were used car salesmen two weeks ago.

People without electricity in California seem somewhat surprised that their solar roofs don’t actually feed power to their homes. Electric cars get really good for the environment because they don’t move without power. I read that super rich Dem donors in Silicon Valley never lost power during these dangerous high winds PG&E is so worried about.

there isn’t enough natural gas in the existing pipeline to keep adding more service points. If they continue to hook up new customers, you’re going to see the backpressure in the lines start dropping during peak demand hours. If you look at the configuration of a typical gas furnace installation you’ll note that if the incoming gas pressure drops too low, the furnace will simply shut down for safety reasons until the pressure is restored.

Of course, none of this may wind up mattering (at least until winter) because National Grid turned around and agreed to do the hookups anyway. It was that or face crippling fines handed down by the state. They will apparently open up more lines and just wait for the weakening gas supply to shut off the heat on its own.

Dems Worried If Impeachment Fails They’ll Have To Nominate Electable Candidate

Democrats are beginning to grow worried that if their impeachment effort fails, they’ll have to resort to plan B: nominating an electable candidate and winning an election.

“The real danger here,” said Nancy Pelosi in a meeting of top Democrats, “is that the normal way of getting rid of a president—impeachment—fails. Then, we’d have to try to find someone who isn’t a smug, smarmy doofus and get the public to like them.”

“What about Andrew Yang? He’s pretty nice,” said one aide, who was then asked to leave the room for such reckless hate.

“I could run for president. I’m pretty electable,” said Chuck Schumer.

“Oh, cut the crap. You’re insufferable,” said Pelosi, rolling her eyes. “Ocasio, any ideas?”

“What if we just, like, seized the means of production and executed all the leaders?” Ocasio-Cortez asked, looking up from a comic book about herself she was reading. “That would be so fetch.”

“Stop trying to make fetch happen!” Pelosi replied, clearly irritated now. “Alright, so getting elected is out. Let’s just put all our eggs in the impeachment basket and hope it works out. Maybe we can pass impeachment first so we can find out what things Trump did that are impeachable.”

Yup the Japanese have a Tier 2 Rugby team and this is the first time they have made it out of the Round Robyn play and get into the Quarter Finals. There is a core of ex-pats playing for Japan. A Kiwi , two Aussies and a few Samoans I think but the rest are Japanese. Their coach is a Samoan Kiwi former All Black.

As the Japanese have no winter sport they have really taken to Rugby and the ‘BraveCherry Blossoms’ have gone from strength to strength over the pst 16 years against Tier 2 and Tier teams like Canada the US and Samoa, Tonga and Fiji. They used to be a pushover against Tier 1 teams like the Europeans and Argentina but no more. The Brave Cherry Blossoms convincingly beat BOTH Ireland and Scotland who are true Tier 1 teams as well as the Tier 3 Russians, to top their Pool Play Group and advance unbroken into the Quarters.

After the World Cup there should be a Pacific Southern Hemisphere set on internationals between, The All Blacks, Aussie Wallabies, South African Springboks, The US Eagles, Canada’s Maple Leaf, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Argentina, with the occasional invitational with Uruguay. The way that Japan has developed that would vastly improve the play and put the fear of god into the Europeans, especially the likes of the Italians and the French.

Excellent news. Just the way that Trump strategic plan was hatched. The Kurds aligned with the Syrians and against the Turks, just as it should be with the arms corridors between Iran and Lebanon effectively shut down by the fighting, with the Israelis snotting any leakage of Iranian arms close the corridor in Southern Syria south of Damascus. That starves Hezbollah of BOTH arms and $$$$ as Iran’s economy staggers under the weight of US sanctions.

The warning by Trump to Turkey to not go TOO FAR or else face fiscal warfare and sanctions against Turkey’s fragile economy allows US allies in Kurds to shelter deeper inside Syrian Kurdistan whilst leaving the PKK to face the wrath of the Turks in Eastern Kurdistan / Southern Turkey /Northern Iraq.

With all the players engaged the US can withdraw and bolster the AAA in Saudi to protect against another missile bombardment from Iran. The Saudis should buy their own AAA nd do their own protecting but in the van of that the US protects the European oil supply lines and ensures European continued support as Iran is crushed under the sanctions.

Things are coming along just fine.

Now to disengage from the elephant in the room. Afghanistan.

the indigenous community, her office confirmed. The holiday will still
be a legal public holiday and fall on the second Monday of October.

Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, said in a statement Wednesday that she was “proud” to legalize the new holiday.

“This new holiday will mark a celebration of New Mexico’s 23 sovereign
indigenous nations and the essential place of honor native citizens hold
in the fabric of our great state,” she said. “Enacting Indigenous
People’s Day sends an important message of reconciliation and will serve
as a reminder of our state’s proud native history.”

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez praised the bill’s passage and thanked Lujan Grisham for her support.

“For many years, Indigenous people have protested Columbus Day because it
celebrates colonialism, oppression, and injustice inflicted on
Indigenous peoples,” Nez said in a statement posted on Facebook
Tuesday. “Observing Indigenous Peoples’ Day allows citizens to
recognize our rich heritage and represents a step toward healing and
    growth.”

Actually they two backed silk curtains that were cut down from 4 metres to 2 metres. They curtain track SNAFU by Mrs. AI means that they’ll end up as 4x 1 metre curtains they are a little short as well and seeing that Mrs. AI is adding a contrasting bottom 10 cm she might as well add a 5 cm up each side In other words she is re cutting and remaking the whole shebang.

    🙂

I delivered a bunch of flowers to Mrs. AI at school when I collected the set of keys. Ladies like getting flowers I’ve been told on good advice.

At the beach. Had a curry on the way down and looking to light the fire and settling in for a cozy evening.

Another day…another attempt by Adam Schiff to move the goalposts.
I hear the IG’s report is as thick as a phone book. And it’s devastating.

And I turned 66 yesterday. Now I’m REALLY a “senior citizen.”

The new narrative is that Trump is supporting the murder of journalists.

A video was shown at a gathering of Trump supporters meeting at Mar-a-Lago that is adapted from something called the Kingston video. The modified vid shows Trump stabbing and shooting journalists (I’m not clear on what was in the original but it wasn’t Trump doing the killing and it wasn’t journalists being murdered.) This is now a threat to our very democracy

So now Trump, who knows nothing about it, is at fault. One of these morons gets a hangnail and it’s TRUMP.

This is SO important it made the front page of WaPo

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/10/14/fake-video-trump-killing-media-critics-shown-resort-draws-backlash/

But what nobody is telling you is that it’s been on youtube for a year and somehow our democracy survived

And more fun from the “gee, I can’t imagine how that happens” vault

The Vatican is investigating how $200m in Swiss bank accounts controlled by its central administrator ended up financing a luxury property development in London that generated large profits for a company that managed the investment

    @ The Barbarian:

Happy Birthday! Did you get any cool presents?

I hear the IG’s report is as thick as a phone book

The funny part about that statement is that half the people reading/hearing it are going “phone book??”

  146. 153 | October 14, 2019 10:51 am

    @ eaglesoars:

Haha – that’s true. Of course, let’s hope when they say phone book they mean the Manhattan Yellow Pages and not Lodi, California.

The kids took me to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. And I got a new electric can opener (don’t laugh – it’s really what I wanted!).

    @ eaglesoars:

I saw that. No correction up on ABC – seriously caught with their pants down on this one.

    @ eaglesoars:

Of course, they had no trouble with actual MOVIES that were made about the assassination of George W. Bush or the hunting down and MURDER of Trump supporters. Let alone the real assassination attempt of GOP Congressmen on a baseball field.

wasn’t there a play about assassinating Trump? I forget where it was, Central Park maybe? It was outside. Laura Loomer and her pals rushed the stage and broke it up.

    @ eaglesoars:

As long as Republicans, Conservatives and Deplorables are being murdered, it’s okay because….we have it coming.

I remember Wanda Sikes saying at the WHC Dinner that she hoped Rush Limbaugh had a stroke and “he failed” (he wasn’t there, of course) and the audience thought it was hilarious. Obama was laughing. POS.
