NCAA Football Week 8 OPEN THREAD, and rugby world cup!

by coldwarrior ( 78 Comments › )
Filed under College Football, Open thread at October 18th, 2019 - 3:00 pm

Welcome to the Weekend open thread that has some college ball and World Cup Rugby for some added sportiness!

THE RUGBY WORLD CUP (no bets placed)

Saturday 0315AM England Versus Australia…The boys form OZ won’t win this. The English side is too good this year.

Saturday 0615 AM Ireland versus New Zealand. All Blacks win this. It will be one hell of a game tho.

Sunday 0315 Wales versus France. The Valleys will sing when Wales destroy France.

Sunday 0615 AM Japan versus Sud Afrika. Japan beat Scotland and Ireland to get to the knock out round and they are the host country. Springbok Reality will hit them squarely in the mouth. It was a great run for Japan and they played great. There are three places in the world where Rugby is a religion, Wales, New Zealand, and South Africa.

NCAA FOOTBALL @ $100 a game

#9 Florida at South Carolina – Sat, Oct 19, 12:00 PM ET…onine is giving 4.5 to the ‘Cocks. Nope. Gators eat chickens.

#12 Oregon at #25 Washington – Sat, Oct 19, 3:30 PM ET…Oregon is over rated again this year, but they are giving 2.5 to Washington State. This could be an upset. The home team always gets 3 points for home field advantage, meaning this game is a tie in the eyes of Vegas. But, I am taking Oregon to cover.

#16 Michigan at #7 Penn State – Sat, Oct 19, 7:30 PM ET…Online is giving M 8.5 @ Happy Valley. M’s defense is pretty good and that will help M beat this spread.

Tennessee at #1 Alabama – Sat, Oct 19, 9:00 PM ET…The team formerly known as the Vols are giving 35 on the road. I’m not going anywhere hear this.

#14 Boise State at BYU – Sat, Oct 19, 10:15 PM ET…The Mormons are 6.5 Dogs and won’t beat this spread.

Speculations on Mifsud from PJ Media.

The redoubtable Tom Fitton writes on Twitter that FBI director Christopher Wray “Wants 26 months to turn over 13,000 Strzok-Page Docs. And was trying to hide Clinton spy Steele docs in order to protect Steele’s ‘privacy.’ … Is Comey still running the FBI?”

No, Wray is, but it seems to be, as Fitton implies, another distinction without a difference. What is the director hiding here? We’ve already seen enough of Strzok-Page to know who they are — a pair of Deep State, immoral nitwits not smart enough to know that text messages are indelible. As for Steele, enough has been said about this bad fiction writer. (The dossier was so absurd only a reporter for Mother Jones or BuzzFeed would believe it, not that the truth would matter to them if the propaganda value were there — and it was.)

Wray should realize that by stonewalling he is only cementing the perception of many that the FBI is a corrupt and even nefarious organization, not ever to be trusted, the very opposite of how it should be considered. And if he was watching any of the Dallas Trump rally Thursday night, he might get a sense, by the immense size of the crowd, the startling number of people watching from outside as if this were the Super Bowl or the World Series, just how many people truly disrespect, probably even despise, what the FBI has done and what it has become. Only transparency — real transparency and the consequent punishments — will save it.

Finally, an interesting conundrum for the Graham Greene/John LeCarré wannabes out there (including me): Who gave Joseph Mifsud his marching orders and just how much did he or she tell the Maltese? And who gave the marching orders to that person, Stefan Halper or whoever it was? And so on up the line…? Perhaps, some day, Messrs. Durham and Barr will tell us. I want the movie rights.

Perhaps – A good reason to have a concealed weapons permit.

This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a small pistol against a fierce predator.

What’s the smallest caliber that you would trust to protect yourself?

Here’s her story in her own words:

“While out walking along the edge of a pond just outside my house in The Villages with my soon to be ex-husband, discussing property settlement and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 12-ft. alligator which suddenly emerged from the murky water.

It began charging us with its large jaws wide open. She must have been protecting her nest because she was extremely aggressive. If I had not had my little Beretta .25 caliber pistol with me, I would not be here today!

Just one shot to my estranged husband’s knee cap was all it took. The gator got him easily, and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace. The amount I saved in lawyer’s fees was really incredible. His life insurance was a big bonus!”

Since I’m allowed to be extra silly at my age, here’s the joke I sent to eaglea last week or so:

Chester sent his dog out to see if there were any ducks in the pond. “If there aren’t many ducks out there, I’m not going hunting”.

The dog comes back and barks twice. Chester says “Well I’m not going to go out. He only saw two ducks out there”

Earl says “You’re going to take the dog’s barks for the truth?”

Earl doesn’t believe it, so he goes to look for himself. When he gets back he says “I don’t believe it. There really are only two ducks out there! Where did you get that dog?”

Chester says “Well, I got him from the breeder up the road. If you want one, you can get one from him”

So Earl goes to the breeder and says he wants a dog like the one his friend Chester has. The breeder obliges and Earl brings the dog home, tells it to go out and look for ducks.

Minutes later the dog returns shaking its head with a stick in its mouth, and starts humping Earl’s leg.

Outraged, Earl takes the dog back to the breeder and says “This dog is a fraud. I want my money back!”?

The breeder asks Earl what the dog did. So Earl tells him that when he sent the dog out to look for ducks, it came back shaking its head with a stick in its mouth, and started humping his leg

The breeder says “Earl, dogs can’t talk. He was trying to tell you there are more f——g ducks out there than you can shake a stick at.

    @ yenta-fada:

I had a woman in one of my classes in Colorado who had a 2″ .38 and said that she was going to carry it when hiking as protection against bears.

I told her to make sure she had someone with her when she was out in the woods, then.

When she asked why, I said “Because the only way that gun is going to protect you from a bear is if you use it to shoot the other person in the leg so the bear gets him first.”

    She wasn’t amused.

Hillary Clinton Asked To Leave Costco After Repeatedly Accusing Sample Lady Of Being A Russian Asset

According to sources at a DC-area Costco, failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was asked to leave Costco again after repeatedly accusing a lady handing out food samples of being a Russian asset.

It wasn’t clear how Clinton had ended up in the Costco, as she usually has her servants’ servants go to the market for her. Some suggested she wanted to disguise herself and go be among her subjects to see how the other 99% lives.

Whatever the case, the sample lady had apparently offered the failed presidential candidate a small paper cup of orange juice and told her the packs were on sale for $9.49 when the incident occurred.

“Orange… orange like Trump!” Clinton screamed suddenly, frightening the poor food demonstration worker. “You’re in league with him, aren’t you!?” The failed presidential candidate lunged across the cart and attempted to pull off her face mask, certain the lady was actually Vladimir Putin in a skin suit.

When that failed and the woman shooed her off with a plastic glove, Clinton turned for help and began screaming, “Security! Margaret in the frozen foods aisle is a Russian asset! Help, help, our elections are being meddled with!”

Guards arrived but relaxed when they saw it was just Hillary Clinton. “OK, lady, let’s go,” they said, grabbing her by each arm.

“Thank goodness you’re here!” Clinton cried. “Arrest that woman! Can’t someone help me out!?”

“Oh yeah, sure, lady, we’ll help you out,” the guards said, snickering as they dragged her toward the front door.

According to sources at the Costco, this is the third time this has happened this week.

The veterans of the free world during WW2 did not fight, be maimed, and die for that. Their children and grandchildren have short memories and distorted values. Gender fluidity is taxpayer subsidized up here and made to be a humanitarian act. Sometimes twice for the same ‘confused’ pronoun person. All for the extermination of the family unit in the productive nations. It’s a handful of people who see it and push back effectively. Let’s support them.

Yup Tulsi is very liberal on most issues especially on social issues. What differentiates her is her foreign affairs positions especially in regards to the DC Swamp and the Military Industrial Complex, with its associated corruptocrats that has totally poisoned the Civil Service ‘well’ for 55 years.

That’s true as it meshes 100% with the Obama WH policy. Gabbard is conservative when it comes to deployments of troops abroad however. I don’t like her attitude however when it comes to the military riven with sexual politics and liberal drug policy. In Tulsi’s world the military would be back home but much smaller and riven with the full range of Progressive socialist policies regarding drug use and the identity politics fractures caused by her sexual policy positions.

    🙂

    Wallabies vs England.

The green and gold were a step too slow and were utterly predictable throughout. Those English intercepts really told the whole story.

There was also no commitment from the Wallabies. Half hearted attempts to tackle just doesn’t;t cut the mustard in World Cup Quarters. As that great Rugby coach is won’t to say… ” You DO or you DO NOT… there is no TRY…

and there were precious few ‘tries’ for the lacklustre Wallabies.

Stocks will try in the week ahead to break the all-time highs set earlier in the year as a slew of S&P 500 companies get set to report.

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average are both around 1% below their all-time highs while the Nasdaq Composite is about 2% away from its record. The indexes got a lift this after a big chunk of this week’s reporters posted better-than-expected results. They were also boosted by improving sentiment around Brexit and U.S.-China trade negotiations…

    inverted yield curve????

    😆

The indices may be ok this time, but I don’t know whether the manufacturing index is showing a real slowdown, or if the GM strike was skewing it (and maybe Boeing?)

I wonder if it was another Trump troll to demonstrate to the world how deranged and irrational the dems really are. Even AP quoted his comment about “irrational response”

I don’t think so. He’s very pragmatic, and to him, this made perfect sense (and it does). Somebody with more sense got to him and told him to pick better battles, this one is stupid.

    @ eaglesoars:

If he’s smart, he’ll haul everybody’s ass to Camp David because the press hates it and he can tell them to suck it. It still accomplishes his stated purpose of saving money.

    Well, that answers THAT question.

Defense chief: US troops leaving Syria to go to western Iraq

Defense Secretary Mark Esper says that under the current plan all U.S. troops leaving Syria will go to western Iraq and the military will continue to conduct operations against the Islamic State group to prevent a resurgence in that country.

Speaking to reporters traveling with him to the Middle East, Esper did not rule out the idea that U.S. forces would conduct counterterrorism missions from Iraq into Syria. But he said those details will be worked out over time.

Hey , how about Illinois over Wisconsin? The best game that the Illini have had since 2007, their Rose Bowl year.
My daughter was a freshman that year at Illinois.
