      @ lobo91:

      Thanks!

The more I think about it tho, the more I think it’s a better idea to wait till we get to Knoxville. First, I don’t have to worry about transport and I’m not sure what the law on barrel length will be by the time we get there. I’d hate to buy a 16in and find out only 18 is allowed. Also, there is what looks like a really good gun shop there, with indoor ranges, gun smithing, training, etc. and this place looks nice too
      https://shootpointblank.com/retail-store/

I’m so busy getting everything org’d for this move, I don’t have time to train with the thing, which would be really dumb.

      So I think I’ll wait.

But I’m gonna get me one, cuz I’m worth it. And I miss shooting, I haven’t been on a range since Bonnie started to get sick and that’s been how many years? didn’t want to spend $$$ on the ammo or the time away from her

I would suggest that you get an AR with a 1:7 twist barrel, also. Those are able to use any bullet weight ammo. The 1:9 twist barrels won’t stabilize anything but 55 grain bullets.

FAIRFAX, Virginia — Immigrants who fled Central American countries to get away from transnational criminal organizations such as MS-13 have come to the United States only to find the exact same gangs terrorizing northern Virginia communities.

Five federal and local officials who work on gang matters in the region told the Washington Examiner that while they do not have a way to calculate exactly how many people — asylum seekers, temporary protected status recipients, immigrants, and those without documents — have been victims of crimes committed by MS-13 and others, the immigrant community in Fairfax County, Virginia, is often on the receiving end of extortion, violence, and other crimes.

      https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/they-escaped-ms-13-in-central-america-only-to-find-the-gang-thriving-in-northern-virginia

But the Fairfax Co. sheriff won’t cooperate w/ice and the board of supers allocated about $200k to pay lawyers to help illegals fight deportation. It just amazes me that people simply don’t pay attention to what’s going on locally and stay sound asleep while the very foundation of the life they worked so hard to achieve is being eroded by the people they voted for.

I have some hope for Durham. I have zero for Horowitz. But even if Durham comes out with guns blazing, I keep in mind that Barr’s DOJ is apparently declining to prosecute McCabe.

      @ lobo91:

Is a 1:7 twist what is being referred to as ‘hybrid’ in what I’ve been reading?

My heathen beagles finally went back to day camp today after being quarantined at home for a month because Willow picked up hookworm. They’ve had great, kill-the-squirrels runs every day with me & their favorite person in the whole world, Megan the dog walker, but my knees are shot and the house is totaled. I have to get to work.

    20. lobo91
      21 | December 3, 2019 2:30 pm

      @ eaglesoars:

I think that’s usually referring to caliber (like an AR platform rifle that’s chambered for 7.62×39 AK rounds).

The twist rate for the original AR-15 and the M-16/M-16A1 was 1:9. Back then, all the ammo was 55 grain, so it was fine.

When the M-16A2 came out in the mid-80s, the military switched to 62 grain ammo, so it came with a 1:7 twist rate barrel.

You can actually fire either one from either barrel. It’s a matter of accuracy.

The main reason to get a 1:7 twist barrel is so you can shoot anything, without having to stop and think about it.

Think liquid metal moderated Thorium based low to moderate power output based locally. They can’t melt down and if all else fails they just stop. No large scale grid system either to tempt an enemy yo attack and total redundancy built into a network of reactors.

India has already got a trial reactor up and running. It was based on a US design in the 1960s before U-235 large scale reactors got into the game. U-235 won because the byproduct of uranium breeders was plutonium that was used for bomb production.

      Thorium’s time has come.

And you have zero excuse for being surprised. You and I both know how this goes.

There’s a guy who writes on the 2nd amendment for the Free Beacon who has pointed out that the proposed law in Virginia on shotguns has NO grandfather clause, meaning if you already own one of these things, you’re use of it is restricted to the point that you can’t use it.

And for all the rah-rah reports on how many counties in Virginia are declaring themselves 2A sanctuary counties, people forget about reciprocity issues. Most people don’t know where the county boundaries lie, so they can be perfectly legal at the gas station, and a felon in the grocery store.

This doesn’t work and it doesn’t address the problem. I’m not going to hide and I’m not going to fight a losing battle. I’m going somewhere I can fight. Tennessee isn’t lost yet, altho there is a fight on that is very low key. But the people there are waking up a lot sooner than the people here. They can have their MS-13 illegals and body parts of teenage girls in the local parks.

I’ve got 2 real estate agents coming in this week for interviews. The curtains are coming down Friday, the windows will be replaced next week. I’m getting the house ready to put on the market

It may be. As for Durham, he has empaneled a grand jury and you don’t do that unless you’re proceeding with criminal indictments. It’s possible they wanted to avoid a double-jeopardy situation. If McCabe is tried by the pussy DOJ in Washington D.C. courts, he walks and can’t be tried for the same offense again. You aren’t going to find a jury there to convict based on the scope of sources IG Horowitz is confined to. Durham has no restrictions. The guy has tentacles in Ukraine.

Slipped in this afternoon because all of the data collection is now paper based rather on-line where it has been compromised. Took in my magazines and associated cleaning kits and such. The only thing they were interested in were the 30 round mags at $105 apiece. Cops all in body armour and Glocks and the ones patrolling outside also carrying long arms ( Ironically AR-15s). Nice unsworn staff doing the paperwork and giving really useful advice . I was told to get in fast and get a M-2 Tactical shotgun and told me where to get the magazine reworked ( there are only 2 gunsmiths in Auckland authorised to do this work) to make it a 5 shot semi auto instead of a 7 shot semi auto.

Went to my local gunshot and listened to a customer bitching about the price he got for a lightly used firearm. The “there is no justice in the world” rant that the poor armorer has hears a thousand times these past months. He ordered a Bennelli M-2 Tac 12 gauge semi auto with one in the breach and 5 in the magazine, for January delivery.

The public has swung against any further expansion of ani-gun law, even among Labour supporters. National has said that they will simplify the rules. Even Labour has eased the rules such as abolishing Cat# E licenses covering pistol grips and rolled everyone into the major Cat#A.

I asked specifically whether my details would enter the on-line system and the answer was no. There are too many holes to make the system viable.

All I’ve lost is two shells per magazine from 7 down to 5. The push back has been brutal from the gun lobby and National are pandering to them to beat the band!

      🙂

Perhaps Frog Water Hot . But I’m further along than I was with just magazines and nothing to load them into!

By early January I’ll have the ultimate short range home defensive semi-auto shotgun!

The US Marine Corps can’t be wrong!

      Good to know.

      That’s more like it.

Australia has matched Trump’s demand to spend a minimum of 2% GNP on defence and has now gone well beyond that as it invests in more capital equipment that meshes effectively with US technology.

That was back mid 2019. This is the latest from the US Naval War College…
      https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/its-time-massive-us-navy-base-australia-97051

A major base in Northern Australia with reach into both the Indian and SW Pacific is going to cost way more than a few hundred million bucks. Australia should man up and spend some of the extra military infrastructure cash on a Darwin base.

Allow the Chinese to complete their $400 million hotel complex / barracks block and then cancel the 99 year Chinese lease of Port Darwin on strategic reasons. Have a trial in Australia to sort out the resulting temper tantrum and award China a token $1 million reparation. Just as the Chinese have done on numerous occasions to Australian and NZ Joint Venture companies who’s IP was stolen by Chinese partner companies who then set up on competition. I believe the Lion Breweries NZ lost over $200 million in such a scam and were awarded a mere $10,000 reparation in a Chinese court.

      Afraid not.

The ChiComs have surpassed massed protests for decades. It was just not reported by the corrupt western MSM. The ChiComs have been ruthless in the suppression of their own people and there is no reason to think that they are going to change now.

Lives lost mean absolutely nothing to them. For the ChiComs this is an existential threat. Xi has even quoted a narrative from historical sources that shows that collapsing Chinese dynasties don NOT just over throw the leaders and elites. ALL of the elites and leaders , their families and supporters are murdered systematically. Xi and the leaders of China know that this is the fate that awaits them if they give even a single inch.

They will do as they have always do and destroy their enemies totally. They now possess the surveillance infrastructure to ever allow a serious opposition to rise to challenge the communist state.

      Thanks Google!

oh YES! I look at houses on real estate sites all the time. Found a house I LOVE and found the builder, too. I haven’t found a floor plan I like as much. I’m hoping when we get there that model will be available in one of the developments the builder is working in, it really is perfect for us. But if not, I’ve certainly seen others I like very much, so I’m easy.

BUT – as of right now, we aren’t sure EXACTLY what we can afford. There definitely will be no more day care for the beagles so we need a fence-able yard

It was only a matter of time before someone made a semi-auto version of those. Kind of expensive, though.

The basic concept is sound. The Mossberg 590 Shockwave has been around for a few years now. Same thing, only pump.

They have limited usefulness. If you want something for home defense, I’d go with a conventional 18-20″ barrel and a regular stock. It’s still small enough to be maneuverable indoors if you’re careful.

It is the Ferrari of TAC shotguns but you have only one life girl. Why buy a Toyota type gun when you can have a serious TAC .

The US Marine Corps can’t be wrong!

Simple with only 3 moving parts,

      Simple to clean and maintain

No gas systems to screw up and get blocked just wjhen you can’t afford it to jam

      Low recoil and ultra lightweight.

Police tactical and adjustable butt stock if you are in a jurisdiction that allows you to own them

A 14.5″ barrel for those tight internal corners

      Choked where it counts

Suggested load birdshot for internal use at ultra short ranges and snap shots precluded wall penetrations and the potential for collateral family damage. Birdshot at 6 feet still makes a very large hole

Solid slugs for the zombie apocalypse

I’m headed to Utah in two years when my youngest graduates and my ex no longer has any say over them. I know that state is going crazy but more job opportunities, more educational opportunities for my kids, and you can pretty much get a concealed carry permit in a cereal box. Montana has most of the worst aspects of Utah, without the friendly work and school environment and is less friendly toward concealed permits.

      @ Aussie Infidel:

I HAVE a Remington 870 tactical. It was fine when I bought it, but if I had to use it in a hurry now, I’m concerned. I’d hit the first target but it would take too much time for follow-up. I’ll probably trade it in for something a little more suited to my physical limitations.

I like the 14.5 “, and it really does look simple. I don’t know if there are legal reqs in Tennessee on barrel lengths, but I’ll put this on on my list, thanks.

18.5″ is the shortest barrel that’s legal to own on a shotgun in the US without having to get a tax stamp from the ATF.

Those very short barrels like on the Shockwave or the Remington equivalents are legal because according to the ATF, they aren’t shotguns. They fall into a nebulous class known as “firearms.”

It’s all about the grip. If you look at them, they all have the exact same grip, which is a “birdshead” design. If it ships from the factory with that installed, the barrel can be shorter. It’s because the legal definition of a shotgun includes being a shoulder-fired weapon. Obviously, with that sort of grip, it can’t be shoulder fired.

It’s all kind of silly, but that’s the law.
