2/5 last week, 32/60…1300/1000 thus far.

Army v. #23 Navy 3:00 PM in Phillie. Army are 11 point dogs and cover this spread.

Also, Satuday marks the 40th anniversary release of The Clash, London Calling. It’s one of my top 5s.

London Calling has since been considered by many critics to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time,[67] including AllMusic’s Stephen Thomas Erlewine, who said that it sounded more purposeful than “most albums, let alone double albums”.[21] In Christgau’s Record Guide: The ’80s (1990), Christgau called it the best double album since the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. (1972) and said it expanded upon, rather than compromised, the Clash’s driving guitar sound in a “warm, angry, and thoughtful, confident, melodic, and hard-rocking” showcase of their musical abilities.[60] According to the English music writer Dave Thompson, London Calling established the Clash as more than “a simple punk band” with a “potent” album of neurotic post-punk, despite its amalgam of disparate and occasionally disjointed musical influences.[68] Don McLeese from the Chicago Sun-Times regarded it as their best album and “punk’s finest hour”, as it found the band broadening their artistry without compromising their original vigor and immediacy.[59] PopMatters critic Sal Ciolfi called it a “big, loud, beautiful collection of hurt, anger, restless thought, and above all hope” that still sounds “relevant and vibrant”.[25] In a review of its 25th anniversary reissue, Uncut wrote that the songs and characters in the lyrics cross-referenced each other because of the album’s exceptional sequencing, adding that “The Vanilla Tapes” bonus disc enhanced what was already a “masterpiece”.[69]

According to Acclaimed Music, London Calling is the sixth most highly ranked record on critics’ lists of the all-time greatest albums.[70] In 1987, Robert Hilburn of the Los Angeles Times named it the fourth-best album of the previous 10 years and said, while the Clash’s debut was a punk masterpiece, London Calling marked the genre’s “coming of age” as the band led the way into “fertile post-punk territory”.[71] In 1989, Rolling Stone ranked the 1980 American release as the best album of the 1980s.[72] In the 1994 All Time Top 1000 Albums, Colin Larkin named it the second-greatest punk album;[73] it was also voted number 37 in Larkin’s All Time Top 1000 Albums (2000).[74] In 1999, Q magazine named London Calling the fourth-greatest British album of all time,[75] and wrote that it is “the best Clash album and therefore among the very best albums ever recorded”.[63] The magazine later ranked it 20th on its list of the 100 Greatest Albums Ever.[76] It has also been ranked as the sixth-greatest album of the 1970s by NME,[77] and the second-best in a similar list by Pitchfork,[78] whose reviewer Amanda Petrusich said that it was the Clash’s “creative apex” as a “rock band” rather than as a punk band.[79] In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it eighth on their list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time,[4] maintaining the rating in a 2012 revised list.[80] Entertainment Weekly’s Tom Sinclair declared it the “Best Album of All Time” in his headline for a 2004 article on the album.[81] In 2007, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, a collection of recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance.[82] In 2009, the album was included in the BBC Radio 1 Masterpieces Series, denoting one of the most influential albums of all time.[83]

A little light relief just for you Cold…..

The Perth Test match between OZ and NZ is as they say delicately balanced.

It’s hot work however at 40C in the middle and LOTS of drinks breaks.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjpTcHwjFuI

The coming Melbourne Thrid Test beginning on News Year’ s day is going to ‘interesting!

The current pitch was so substandard that a Sheffield Shield match between Australian State sides had to be called because several batsmen were injured with quick balls hitting cracks and them them at 140 KPH!

The MCG groundsmen have said that they will provide a ‘drop in’ pitch that will be flat and true, but I’m yet to be convinced!

Interesting times as the Black Caps (Kiwis) have just seen off England in a two Test series with an innings win and a drawn game that didn’t go the distance due to weather.

    🙂

    morning y’all
lets start off with this bit of news

    https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2019/12/13/antifa-leftists-riot-in-london-following-massive-election-loss/

The vitriolic response from the British socialists resembles an almost identical response following the 2016 election victory of President Trump. Same groups, same political ideology, same behavior, same violence, rage and expressed anger.

This is the South China Morning Post, very credible source. THIS is appalling.

Chinese criminal gangs spreading African swine fever to force farmers to sell pigs cheaply so they can profit

Report by state media says some offenders are leaving infected feed in sties and are even using drones to spread contamination

Pork prices have spiked as a result of the disease and gangs can profit by getting around controls to smuggle meat across provincial boundaries

The profit margin can be as much as 1,000 yuan (US$143) per pig, so dealers have been stockpiling funds for bulk purchases.
“However many pigs you have, we are taking them all,” the story quoted a dealer as saying.
In the southwestern province of Yunnan alone, the authorities have already intercepted 10,000 live pigs, some infected with the virus, that were destined for other provinces.
The report said police believed that one gang had smuggled 4,000 pigs from the province in one day.

People don’t really appreciate how much money there is to be made from war. You don’t even have to be an arms dealer. How about the catering services that provide all the cafeteria services? One of our adopted soldiers was a logistics officer at Camp Bucca. The stories he told………

Anyway, here’s an interesting piece on the shootings at Pensacola with some interesting insights into how the Saudi students are treated/behave. It’s consistent with everything I’ve seen over the years and when somebody you know from the ME says “the Saudis think their shit doesn’t stink”, this is what they’re talking about.

Van Drew flipped his GOP district in southern New Jersey, helping deliver Democrats the House majority. The district, which still leans Republican, voted for Trump in 2016.

Yeah, time to throw them all out

Chinese embassy officials – with their wives in the car – literally barged onto a military base at Norfolk Virginia – got intercepted and thrown off – and have been expelled. The article doesn’t name the base, but says it’s home to Special Ops forces.

The Chinese officials and their wives drove up to a checkpoint for entry to the base, said people briefed on the episode. A guard, realizing they did not have permission to enter, told them to go through the gate, turn around and exit the base, which is common procedure in such situations.

But the Chinese officials instead continued on to the base, according to those familiar with the incident. After the fire trucks blocked them, the Chinese officials indicated that they did not understand the guard’s English instructions, and had simply gotten lost, according to people briefed on the matter.

American officials said they were skeptical that the intruders made an innocent error and dismissed the idea that their English was insufficient to understand the initial order to leave.

It is not clear what they were trying to do on the base, but some American officials said they believed it was to test the security at the installation, according to a person briefed on the matter. Had the Chinese officials made it onto the base without being stopped, the embassy could have dispatched a more senior intelligence officer to enter the base, the theory goes.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry and Chinese Embassy in Washington did not reply to requests for comment about the episode. Two associates of Chinese Embassy officials said they were told that the expelled officials were on a sightseeing tour when they accidentally drove onto the base.

    This was in September

@ For decades, counterintelligence officials have tried to pinpoint embassy or consulate employees with diplomatic cover who are spies and assign officers to follow some of them. >eaglesoars:

When the Soviets were operating in NZ during the Cold War they were restricted to specific routes around the country. They were also followed on a regular basis to identify ‘who’s who in the zoo’ by CI personnel. Their movements mirrored those in effect against Western diplomatic staff in Russia. Occasionally the Russians went off reservation. I know as I drove their diplomatically plated big black Mercedes on occasion….. just for fun. No speeding tickets when that happened! They were tracked as well on occasion by the guy sitting beside them! 🙂 HEH! They didn’t get away with much and they led the CI teams to most of their western based agents of influence as well as operational ‘under diplomatic cover’ agents.

Well, a few weeks ago I had a voice conversation with a friend, face to face about slow cookers. Yep, that is why I do not have many real life ( or Internet friends ) because I am boring.

Anyway my friend mentioned a retail outlet that always sold things at a discount, stacked coupons etc.

My friend said the name of the store, and as I do not do much shopping I took what my friend said as the name of the store was Coles.

That evening, and for days after I was getting adverts in my Hotmail and on websites for Kohl’s A store I had never visited, Googled or even knew about.

    Strange…

Yesterday I face to face met the same person and one topic that came up was the cost of Insulin for animals. I never Googled Insulin but now I am seeing advertisements for Insulin in both my Hotmail and on websites.

Yeah, I am fucking crazy, but not crazy enough to think my phone is listening to me but I am wondering if I am getting ads targeted at me because of what other contacts on social media are searching for?

If so, whoever on my contact list that is searching for yoga pants and leggings

Twenty or more years ago countries were all begging to join the EU.

    Now screaming INDEPENDENCE

Not wanting to start a fight over Ireland the island and Eire the country ( yes I know the difference ) but Eire fighting for independence from Britain then joining the EU always seemed…. well strange, to me.

I think there were/are about 125 people in Northern Ireland that hated the British so much they would kill because of it. ( Catholics )

And there are/were about 125 Loyalists that hated Catholics so much they would kill….

Rest of both sides are wonderful people and Ireland ( both north and south ) food is awesome!

I do not care what colour or religion some one is. I talk to them as a person.

well, in the case of my family, we’re talking about people who came here in the 1700 – 1800s and were fleeing strife of some sort or other. They brought their prejudices with them and when they encountered the same groups here they had known back home, they treated them the same. Nobody ever made a completely clean break in one generation, it took longer than that.

My paternal grandfather was KKK. And it’s not because he hated blacks or Jews, he never met any. But he hated the Papists and the fat cats who got away with everything. This was rural Pennsylvania. There was no ‘law’ as we know it today. There were private security services hired by people who owned companies, etc. Thugs in uniforms.

Now, everything is identity politics and I think people are going to get so sick of it, there will be a backlash. I don’t give a flying fuck about your ‘pronouns’ and neither does anybody else.

I think I am saying the same. I will interact with people but once they bring 200 year old baggage into conversation then I am done.

Sounds like he threatened to sick the NG to force confiscation as the heads of most of VA LEOs told him they weren’t enforcing that crap.

    https://johnbwellsnews.com/virginia-governor-reportedly-orders-plans-to-cut-electric-phones-internet-for-gun-confiscations/

The Governor of Virginia has allegedly ordered a small cadre of staffers to begin the process for determining how to cut off electricity, telephones/ FAXES, Cellular phones AND DATA, as well as the Internet, in areas where he plans to send Virginia National Guard Troops to forcibly seize guns when the Democrat legislature convenes in January!

The order was allegedly given to a very small and trusted group of staffers, some of whom it turns out, do not agree (at all) with this idea.

    1. Gov. Northam never threatened to sic the Nat’l Guard on anybody. That came from an interview with a legislator (whose name I forget) who said it is an option. The Virginia Nat’l Guard did issue a response to the comment, you can read about it here. Basically, it told everybody to chill, but between the lines it says “not gonna happen”

    https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/474556-virginia-national-guard-responds-after-dem-lawmaker-suggests-it-may-be

    2. The rumor about cutting off cell phones, internet, etc., originated with a radio show host by the name of Hal Turner. I’d never heard of him, so I checked him out. He makes Alex Jones look like the guy we all thought Walter Cronkite was. Total whack job. I sent the report to Stephen Gutowski who covers 2nd amendment issues for Free Beacon just to let him know the rumor is flying around twitter. I spent hours yesterday trying to knock it down and ended up learning just how deep stupid really runs.

    3. The FAR more concerning development is the Attorney General, Mark Herron, responding to Jay Jones’s letter (see my #56), who said the 2A sanctuary communities are only ‘symbolic’ and the laws will be enforced.

That is going to get blood in the streets. From what I can tell (purely anecdotal of course), people will not give one inch on this because they don’t trust Richmond as far as they can spit. Nor should they. These people are totalitarian thugs and will not stop of their own volition. And may I say AGAIN that this wouldn’t be happening if the Republican Party in Virginia was worth the powder to blow it to hell. It hasn’t even squeaked about this, totally AWOL.

As for a demonstration on Jan 20, I haven’t heard anything, I’ll see what I can find out.

    And…

no. not the way they’re suggesting. And if he tried it, his life would end like Jefferson Davis’, on the run and hiding. Except Northam would be hanged when he got caught. This is what I’m talking about

That is where the militia resolution is in place. County Administrator Erc Young laid out their thought process: “Our position is that Article I, Section 13, of the Constitution of Virginia reserves the right to ‘order’ militia to the localities,” Young said. “Therefore, counties, not the state, determine what types of arms may be carried in their territory and by whom. So, we are ‘ordering’ the militia by making sure everyone can own a weapon.”

If the Governor or any other State entity tires to remove their Sheriff from office for disobeying unjust laws, they’ll face a legally assembled group of armed citizens standing against them.

The militia ordinance also calls for concealed weapons training for any county resident that is eligible to own a gun. Further, it called for the local public school to begin including firearm safety classes.
