    Hail! Caesar!

Today in 27 A.D. The Roman Senate grants to Octavian, the adopted son of Julius Caesar, the title Augustus, giving him imperial powers, thus marking the end of the republic and the birth of an empire. Over the next five centuries, this world-shaking power will rise and fall in spectacular fashion.

SPQR: Senātus Populusque Rōmānus. In Latin, Senātus is a nominative singular noun meaning “Senate”. Populusque is compounded from the nominative noun Populus, “the People”, and -que, an enclitic particle meaning “and” which connects the two nominative nouns. The last word, Rōmānus (“Roman”) is an adjective modifying the whole of Senātus Populusque: the “Roman Senate and People”, taken as a whole. Thus, the phrase is translated literally as “The Roman Senate and People”, or more freely as “The Senate and People of Rome”.

    hey rix.

local boy jim covert made the HOF…yinz is welcome.
Covert was chosen in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft (sixth overall)[17] by the Chicago Bears and head coach Mike Ditka, himself a former Pitt All-American from Western Pennsylvania.[18] “Jimbo’s the guy we wanted. From Day 1, we put him at left tackle and moved on,” Ditka said. “You don’t get too many people who come along who can make that impact. He had the respect of all his teammates and all his coaches.”[19] He became the starter at the left tackle position and was named to the UPI’s 1983 NFL All-Rookie team.[20]

The Bears and New York Giants were perennial Super Bowl contenders in the NFC during the 1980s. Three times Covert squared off against the Giants and their Hall of Fame pass rusher Lawrence Taylor, and all three times Covert held Taylor without a sack.[30]

Hey, did you read Sidney Powell’s brief withdrawing Flynn’s plea? What did you think? Can Sullivan deny it? I got a legal lesson from some lawyers on twitter the other day – ‘misconduct’ does NOT mean ‘illegal’. Dang.

    @ eaglesoars:

Haven’t seen it – I know that she’s alleging that the prosecutors reneged on the plea agreement or some such.

They’re right about the “misconduct” – you can attempt to sue in tort to remedy but you can’t prosecute in felony.

Pay attention. I posted this last nite

    —————-

    Get ready

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but it increasingly looks like associates of Donald Trump were planning a mob hit to murder an American ambassador.

    https://twitter.com/joncoopertweets/status/1217423502627758082

The ambassador referred to is Yavanovitch. And if you think that tweet is straight out of a reddit wet dream, Jon Cooper is chairman of the Dem Coalition and was L.I. campaign chair for Obama

    Legal question here.

Last week, someone rescued a pit bull who’d been starved (he weighed 20 pounds vs the 50 he should have), locked in a kennel and thrown in a dumpster. They’ve caught the piece of crap responsible.

If I was called for jury duty, would it be perjury to answer the question ‘Do you have a dog or cat?’ with a ‘No’ since we don’t have “a’ cat. Yes, I know they’d ask if i had any pets or if I had cats or dogs, but I’m just dreaming of wiggle room.

Poor guy looked terrible but such a sweet looking dog, and there was a video of him talking’ like our old pit did. Damn it, I really hate people sometimes. Dogs can be amazingly resilient.

Someone else dumped 8 puppies almost the same way. I don’t think they were starved though.

Yes it would be perjury, as the spirit of the question during voir dire is what matters. But if you don’t want to serve on the jury, it would be an honest answer to tell the prosecutor that you have read about the case and formed an opinion.

Flyboy gets out of jury duty in a criminal matter simply by honestly telling the defense lawyer that he’d tend to believe a law enforcement officer over a defendant.

There is so much going on here in Virginia about guns, the rally, etc, and it’s happening so fast I can’t keep up.

The courts have ruled against VCDL et al arguing against Northam’s gun ban for the rally, but I think they’ve asked for an emergency injunction.

That’s the big thing, but look for Antifa, etc. I’ve seen pics of the gov’t moving armour in, I don’t know how much credibility the sources have so I’m not posting.

You also have to raise prices to stay in business. Businesses and industry don’t pay taxes. They pass taxes on to their customers who are either end-using consumers or next tier businesses that pass those costs on to the ultimate customer.

California has done a fantastic job at convincing their citizens that raising taxes on themselves is a GOOD thing. And the suckers vote for it every time. For instance, everyone complained about the spike in gas taxes. So an initiative measure was put on the 2018 general election ballot to repeal the recent gas tax increase.

It failed. Because California convinced the voters that firefighters, law enforcement and emergency personnel services would be drastically cut without it. And the dumb as dirt voters believed it.

One of the benefits of limiting the STATE deduction of taxes on your federal return is that people in BLUE states were finally seeing just how much the state/local authorities were gouging out of them every year. So of course the states complained.

To which I respond: “If you are so concerned about your citizens’ “burden” of not being able to deduct their state taxes from their federal return, then why not relieve their burden and let them deduct their FEDERAL taxes from their STATE returns instead?

As far as I can tell, this is the area being fenced off for the rally in Richmond on Monday.

    It’s a kill box

    Juss sayin.

Been cigar free for too many days lately. Should swing by my local and grab a couple 7×70 schizos. Pretty much the main smoke in my price range. Gotta get the cigar cooler prepped and ready for tax return and get it stocked for a couple months after. Found a nice smoke at Best Cigar Prices .com. Odyssey Habano Gigante, came with an Alec Bradley 10 pack. Pretty great smoke, think I’ll order a few bundles. They were nice.

Awwww. The Women’s March is today.

It’s 27 degrees and there’s about an inch of snow on the ground, more precip (probably rain) expected today. The Heathen Beagles lasted all of a minute on the deck.

yep. one of the best ideas I’ve heard – and if I had fewer home responsibilities I would have started it – get cameras set up everywhere. I would have rented any hotel rooms, got drones, you name it. Get a livestream going on the internet, etc.

But get there at least 2 weeks ahead of time and start doing recon, set up.

    @ eaglesoars:

    what this guy said

Maybe the Patriots should stay outside the fencing, flood the entire surrounding area. Let Antifa and the troublemakers be inside the fence. Make a distinct separation as to who is who.

my god, anybody with half a brain can take one look at this and see
    …”IT’S A TRAP!!!”…
