have a great weekend!

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

Interesting guy. Dishonorably discharged from the navy because his unit shipped out and he, uh, missed the boat. Went to Syria and trained as a sniper for the PKK. Not a MAGA dude.

    Everything Is Broken

    (…)

The Obama administration could swiftly overturn the decision-making space in which Capitol Hill staff and newspaper reporters functioned so that Iran, a country that had killed thousands of Americans and consistently announces itself to be America’s greatest enemy, is now to be seen as inherently as trustworthy and desirable an ally as France or Germany. Flatness, frictionlessness.

The biological difference between the sexes, which had been a foundational assumption of medicine as well as of the feminist movement, was almost instantaneously replaced not only by the idea that there are numerous genders but that reference in medicine, law or popular culture to the existence of a gender binary is actually bigoted and abusive. Flatness.

Facebook’s longtime motto was, famously, “Move fast and break shit,” which is exactly what Silicon Valley enabled others to do.

The internet tycoons used the ideology of flatness to hoover up the value from local businesses, national retailers, the whole newspaper industry, etc.—and no one seemed to care. This heist—by which a small group of people, using the wiring of flatness, could transfer to themselves enormous assets without any political, legal or social pushback—enabled progressive activists and their oligarchic funders to pull off a heist of their own, using the same wiring. They seized on the fact that the entire world was already adapting to a life of practical flatness in order to push their ideology of political flatness—what they call social justice, but which has historically meant the transfer of enormous amounts of power and wealth to a select few.”

    Hi, {{eagle}}

oh my Lord you can ask questions 🙂

*meskin* is not a German word. It is a Semitic word but originates in the Akkadian word *muskenu* and means as well *poor* as *bondage to the palace*
It could also be a malapropism from the French word *mesquin* but even this word translates into the Jiddish word *schofel = poor/miserable*
In this context I would prefer “bondage to the palace”

I think some of those troops are going to stay after the inauguration.

I think the Left is operating out of a position of fear and hatred, based on the election results.

Despite the fraud winning the day, I think they were appalled at the number of votes Trump got, and were further appalled at the support after his “loss.”

The Obama II administration plans on ramming through some really unpopular (with at least half the country) legislation, and the regular presence of troops is to deter any organized protest and the accompanying optics. This will help control narrative.

The inauguration post-“insurrection” is a perfect excuse to get them there. I don’t see some of them leaving anytime soon.

    gah

So, I went to a local gun show today (we still have those in Alabama). First sign things weren’t normal: there was a line out the door and down the sidewalk (never seen that before), and nobody paying attention to social distancing.

Inside, it was elbow-to-elbow, and asshole to belly button. All sorts of folks looking over the goods. And the prices? Easily double on everything since last January’s gun show. Last January, before the pandemic, I saw some very basic M4 clones at a hair under $500; now, they’re at least $800. Most AR types were well over $1000. At the other end of the performance spectrum, I saw a used .25ACP Baby Colt for $795.

One on-the-ball dealer was handing out clipboards with a copy of the gun purchase paperwork. “Grab one, get in line, and fill it out while you wait.” And the line was about 20 customers long. Very busy guy.

Cruised around and checked out the ammo. Ditto on prices. I saw one guy selling a generic brand of 38 Special, lead round nose, for $59.99 for a box of 50. Most others weren’t that bad. I noticed one guy selling 20-round boxes of .30 Cal M2 ball ammo for $1 per round. I stopped by my favorite ammo table. The 357 magnum, 125 grain JHP used to be around $17-18 for a 50-round brick; now it was $37.99. But regardless of price, folks were snapping it up. I saw a lot of folks walking out with thousand-round cases of whatever. (Yes, I did buy some of the 357. I don’t know when or if I’ll have another chance. Just like evryone else.)

The Expanse is still going good. One can tell when success overcomes the show. The actors gain weight from season to season. The writing starts to be unholier than thou and emotionally negative from too much drug use by the show staff.

But so far seems ok. I’m seeing a trend that I think is from women writers? Men are given dialogue and emotions and issues that mostly women experience. And women given the same treatment that men experience. I don’t care if they write a woman thinking like a man. But it drives me crazy to see a protagonist male ultra concerned about someone’s feelings. lol. Probably just me. Just shoot the bad guy and walk out.

I enjoyed Cobra Kai because they wrote some really complex personalities into the show. People would do something stupid and I would think “yah I can see that happening”

ALERT: Intelligence reports from @FBI and other USG agencies indicate there may be close to 20 distinct events planned in Washington by militant groups between TODAY and 1/21. More are planned nationwide in every state. The massive show of force in Washington will…

undoubtedly shutdown with deadly force, if necessary, any armed group that chooses to confront the force that includes 20k + troops, federal agents, local & state police personnel believed to number in the thousands and; air, land, sea and cyber surveillance.

A federal law enforcement source tells me, “there are many other countermeasures that can repel ANY attempt by armed militants to harm the incoming President and Vice President.” But the BIG worry, according to the source, is that a small number of, “die-hard, true-believers May

sacrifice themselves in suicidal attempts 2 embolden others. Authorities are also warning that those who fight may use asymmetrical tactics. Two take-always from a former Sr. federal law enforcement source: 1) The security posture will remain HIGH in Washington for months and…

most disturbing, we may be looking at armed insurgencies emerging in some locations around the country.

    Another Obama retread:

Biden Taps Senior Aide Who Quit Obama Admin After Praising Chinese Communist Dictator

President-elect Joe Biden on Friday named a senior advisor for his incoming administration who had resigned from the Obama White House in 2009 after a clip surfaced showing her praising Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong.

Anita Dunn resigned from her post as the White House communications director in 2009 after Fox News surfaced a clip of her praising Mao as one of her “favorite political philosophers.”

“The third lesson and tip actually comes from two of my favorite political philosophers: Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa—not often coupled with each other, but the two people I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you’re going to make choices; you’re going to challenge; you’re going to say, ‘Why not?’; you’re going to figure out how to do things that have never been done before,” Dunn said in an address to the St. Andrew’s Episcopal High School in Washington in 2009, according to CNN.

After the clip surfaced, Dunn said the Mao reference was an attempt at irony which fell flat.

Mao led the communist Cultural Revolution and started a regime in China responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people.

His drama at the Prada Cup racing on the Waitamata Harbour yesterday afternoon.

great start between Britannia and Luna Rossa then on the third leg there was a downburst and a change of 225 degrees in wind direction which dropped to about 6 knots. Rave referee called off the race and reset the course 40 minutes later. Another early duel but Britannia kept out of trouble and finished 18 seconds ahead of Luna Rossa.

Next came Luna Rossa vs. American Magic. Sea starting to chop up and wind was about 15 knots and squawllery. All was well with American Magic outselling Luna Rossa until they tried a VERY difficult manoeuvre around a mark. A very high speed turn across wind. They were found 83 Km’hr (over 50 MPH ) when they tried to lift a foil just as they were hit with a puff. The boat bucked then the bow reared up 45 degrees and the rudder was buried, they rounded up still travelling VERY fast and the boar rolled onto its side. All the downwind side managed to escape from under the sail which was laying on the water. They had life vests with O2 cylinders to breath underwater.

Team NZ was watching and they had immediate support for American Magic as it looked like sinking from a 3 foot hole in its bow. Team NZ brought support bladders alongside and held up American Magic and managed to tow it back to the Viaduct Basin. A lot ot of damage sustained and little chance of being ready again for Day #3 racing next Friday. Looks like a few DNF results will be awarded to American Magic next week until they can patch up their boat. Sad way to finish this race series from a boat that promised so much during the Christmas Racing Series.

China ‘Sought to Influence’ 2020 US Election, Director of National Intelligence Assesses

CIA Management Pressured Analysts to Withdraw Assessment

Director of National Intelligence (DNI) John Ratcliffe assessed that China interfered in the 2020 federal elections, according to a letter transmitted to Congress.

In the letter (pdf), Ratcliffe alleges that intelligence about China’s election interference was suppressed by management at the CIA, which pressured analysts to withdraw their support for the view.

Citing a report by the Intelligence Community Analytic Ombudsman Barry Zulauf, the director of national intelligence said some analysts were reluctant to describe China’s actions as election interference because they disagreed with the policies of President Donald Trump.

The Washington Examiner published Ratcliffe’s letter and the ombudsman report on Jan. 17, ten days after publishing an original report on the documents. The ODNI did not respond to requests from The Epoch Times to authenticate the documents.

“Based on all available sources of intelligence, with definitions consistently applied, and reached independent of political considerations or undue pressure—that the People’s Republic of China sought to influence the 2020 U.S. federal elections,” Ratcliffe wrote.

The report by Zulauf, the intelligence community analytic ombudsman, was sent to Congress on Jan. 7 alongside an intelligence community assessment of interference in the 2020 election. In the report (pdf), Zulauf states the analysts working on Russia and China applied different standards to their reporting on election interference. While labeling Russia’s activity as clear election interference, the analysts were reluctant to do the same for China.

“Given analytic differences in the way Russia and China analysts examined their targets, China analysts appeared hesitant to assess Chinese actions as undue influence or interference,” Zulauf wrote. “These analysts appeared reluctant to have their analysis on China brought forward because they tended to disagree with the Administration’s policies, saying in effect, I don’t want our intelligence used to support those policies.”

Parler’s Website Back Online With a Message From Its CEO

Parler’s website suddenly appeared online on Jan. 17 with a message from its CEO, John Matze, who said, “Hello world, is this thing on?”

The message suggests Parler was able to find another hosting service, coming about a week after Amazon Web Services booted the social media website from its services, taking the site down. It came as Parler—billed as a “free speech” platform—was seeing an unprecedented surge in users as prominent conservatives, among others, were being banned from Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms.

Matze also issued a temporary status update.

“Now seems like the right time to remind you all—both lovers and haters—why we started this platform,” Matze wrote. “We believe privacy is paramount and free speech essential, especially on social media. Our aim has always been to provide a nonpartisan public square where individuals can enjoy and exercise their rights to both. We will resolve any challenge before us and plan to welcome all of you back soon. We will not let civil discourse perish!”

FBI vetting Guard troops in DC amid fears of insider attack

U.S. defense officials say they are worried about an insider attack or other threat from service members involved in securing President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, prompting the FBI to vet all of the 25,000 National Guard troops coming into Washington for the event.

The massive undertaking reflects the extraordinary security concerns that have gripped Washington following the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump rioters. And it underscores fears that some of the very people assigned to protect the city over the next several days could present a threat to the incoming president and other VIPs in attendance.

Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The Associated Press on Sunday that officials are conscious of the potential threat, and he warned commanders to be on the lookout for any problems within their ranks as the inauguration approaches. So far, however, he and other leaders say they have seen no evidence of any threats, and officials said the vetting hadn’t flagged any issues that they were aware of.

I forget what they were called – remember when there were political officers embedded w/Soviet troops to sniff out any disloyalty? Yeah, like that.

On Chris Plante radio, a caller said he flew into Reagan airport while seated next to a Nat’l Guard person who had been called up. The NG guy said all the weapons were being transported via a cargo plane. When asked if they would be loading the weapons, he said “Oh, yeah. But tell your friends – we’re not shooting Americans. Even if it were legal – which it isn’t – we’re not doing it.”

Well, if it’s not legal, I don’t know why they have loaded weapons, but whatever…….

    https://nypost.com/2021/01/16/doctor-who-denied-covid-was-leaked-from-a-lab-had-this-major-bias/

The doctor who denied COVID-19 was leaked from a lab had this major bias

Later, it was revealed that one of the original “fact-checkers” Facebook had used was herself participating in a joint research project with virologists at the Wuhan lab. Can anyone spell “conflict of interest”?

Now it turns out that she wasn’t the only one with a research connection to the lab.

US Right to Know, an investigative public health nonprofit group, decided to look into the matter further. Through a public records request, they were able to obtain emails that show The Lancet statement was organized by employees of EcoHealth Alliance, which in turn has close ties with the Wuhan lab.

How close? So close that EcoHealth Alliance has received millions of dollars of US taxpayer funding to genetically manipulate coronaviruses with scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

This is the same kind of research that I have long suspected escaped to cause COVID-19.

The drafter of The Lancet statement was none other than the president of EcoHealth Alliance, Peter Daszak. Which means that the very statement that, for many months, shut down open debate on the possible laboratory origin of the China Virus, was actually the product of an organization that was collaborating with the Wuhan lab in the genetic engineering of coronaviruses.

Vijaya Gadde, Twitter Legal, Policy and Trust & Safety Lead: “One of the interesting things is a lot of the work that we’ve been doing over the last week is work that we’ve built on in other places around the world, where we’ve seen violence unfold as a result of either misleading information or coded rhetoric.”

Gadde: “We’re going to actually be more aggressive in our enforcement beyond de-amplification.”

Gadde: “A lot of our learnings here [in the United States] have come from other markets. So, in that sense, you know, we do feel like it is – this is our global approach.

It’s almost like they are afraid some of the military will act on their oath to protect the country from all enemies foreign and domestic.

Correct. While I’m sure there will be some ammo available nearby, it won’t be issued to the troops doing the “show of force.”

They were called Commisars or in Russian they were political officers, known as zampolity who ‘ensured’ the loyalty of the troops by threatening them with death. They also followed up front line troops with machine gun battalions of zampolity who’s job it was to shoot any troops who were not’diligent’ in constantly moving forward and pressing home the attack.

In post-Emergency Malaysia NZ troops were issued with one magazine tied shut with blue take containing live rounds,.During Kiwi military exercises near the Thai border, where old defeated CTs (communist terrorists) were rusting away in their dotage, the single magazine was in case the excessive became an actual fight.

    I have a question.

Imagine, under whatever circumstances, Biden is gone and Harris is POTUS. Would that be considered her first term, or Biden’s first term? I know she could run one more time, but could she run twice? Or is there some timeline that says even tho she takes over from Biden, it’s her first term because, for example, she was POTUS for more than half the term? Or it it’s less than half the term, it’s still a fill-in for Biden and she can run twice?

Are you watching the travails of the American Magic getting airborne half way through a turn around a Mark and crashing out at 83 Km/Hr? Punched a 3 foot hole in the port side and flooded. Cooked all the circuitry and got salt water some of the hydraulic lines. All support crews regardless of boat came running and packed the hole with inflatable ballouts, The Kiwi engineering crews have volunteered to help the American Magic crews to re-install the whole electronics package and hydraulic runs. Looks as if American Magic will be out of the water for at least 10 days with crews working on shifts around the clock.

2,000 National Guard Troops in DC Sworn In as Special Deputy US Marshals

About 2,000 National Guard troops were sworn in as U.S. Marshals before Inauguration Day, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Chief Lamont Ruffin from D.C. District Court swore in the 2,000 National Guard troops as special deputy U.S. Marshals prior to the presidential inauguration, according to the federal law enforcement agency’s Twitter page.

The “deputation gives the guardsmen temporary, limited, law enforcement authority pertaining specifically to the safety and protection of the inauguration and related events,” the U.S. Marshals said in a caption on its Flickr page, showing the Guard troops being deputized at night.

The U.S. Marshals Service didn’t immediately respond to a request from The Epoch Times about the duties of the new special deputies.

Former Facebook Exec: Some ‘Conservative Influencers’ Are Bigger than CNN, ‘Turn Down’ Their Reach

CNN has opened a new front in its efforts to blacklist its competitors. After former Facebook exec Alex Stamos told Brian Stelter that YouTube and other platforms have to “turn down the capability” of Conservatives to reach “huge audiences,” CNN’s Oliver Darcy took it one step further, calling on cable companies to stop delivering the right-leaning channels One America News Network (OANN) and Newsmax to paying customers.

CNN continues to give a platform to people calling for tech companies to escalate their censorship of conservatives, even after the tech platforms purged President Donald Trump, the most visible symbol of opposition to the ruling regime.

The network recently featured Alex Stamos, a former Facebook executive, who suggested that tech platforms should intervene to protect corporate news networks from independent competitors.

“We have to turn down the capability of these Conservative influencers to reach these huge audiences…” said Stamos. “There are people on YouTube for example that have a larger audience than daytime CNN.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald compared the campaign against conservative media to attempts to eliminate Islamic extremism from the internet.

“Here’s a former Facebook executive on CNN *explicitly urging that the same tactics that were used in cooperation with the US security state to remove ISIS from the internet now be used against “conservative influencers,” to deprogram everyone to believe the CNN/liberal consensus,” said Greenwald.
