Do we really need to have sympathy for the devil?

The Devil of course being the Muslim Brotherhood. The Obama administration is reflexively pro M.B.  even though the Islamists are the most reactionary people in the world. However Obama/Kerry can always count on John McCain and Miss Lindsey Graham giving them cover. Funny how Obama was quick to send F-16’s and M1 Abrams tanks to Morsi the fascist but now wants to withhold aid to the Egyptian military. By the way the Egyptian military is cracking down on Islamists in the Sinai.

hat tip – Boker Tov, Boulder

by Ralph Peters

What do we want the future Egypt to look like? A flawed, hybrid democracy, or a Sunni Muslim version of Iran? Based on his bluster yesterday about events on the Nile, Secretary of State John Kerry prefers the latter.

[……..]

In full outrage mode, America’s most famous windsurfer castigated the Egyptian authorities, insisting that the Muslim Brotherhood had a right to “peaceful protests.” Apparently, “peaceful” means armed with Kalashnikovs, killing policemen, kidnapping and torturing opponents, turning mosques into prisons, attacking Christians and burning Coptic churches.

The Brotherhood protesters rejected all offers of compromise and all demands to disperse. The interim government’s response was heavy-handed, but the Muslim Brothers chose violent resistance — using women and children as shields (a tactic typical of Islamist terrorists).

Do we really need to have sympathy for the devil?

With its blundering, fickle, late-in-the-day support for whoever appeared to be gaining the upper hand, the Obama administration has managed the remarkable feat of alienating every faction in Egypt. […….]

There was, indeed, a coup. But not all coups involve tanks. The real coup came after Egypt’s premature, badly flawed election, when Morsi and the Brotherhood excluded all non-Brothers from the political process; curtailed media freedoms and jailed journalists; attacked Christians; and rushed toward an Islamist state that the majority of Egyptians did not want.

Tens of millions of Muslims took to the streets to protest the Brotherhood’s plunge toward tyranny. Only after attempts to persuade an unrepentant Morsi to compromise failed, did the military move against the regime.  […….]

Yet our breathtakingly inept ambassador backed the Morsi regime right to the end. That isn’t diplomacy. It’s idiocy.

But all you have to do to create witless panic in Washington is cry “Military coup!” Well, sometimes — regrettably — a military is all that stands between a population and deadly (and anti-American) fanaticism. Despite yesterday’s bloodshed, would we really prefer a return to Brotherhood rule? Stuff the political correctness and get real.

Is the Egyptian military an ideal ally? Nope. But it’s a far better bet than Obama’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood turned out to be.

The danger now is that the administration and naïfs in Congress will cut aid to the Egyptian military and curl up into a snit.  [……..]

Do we really need to make additional enemies in the region? Of moderates and secularists? In a quest to be “fair” to fanatics?

Official figures allow 275 dead in yesterday’s violence, while the Muslim Brotherhood claims more than 2,000. The latter number’s preposterous — you can’t hide that many corpses from prying journalists — but the reality is probably somewhere in between.

[……..]

It’s time to get over ourselves. Our narcissistic belief that we not only can, but must, decide the destinies of Middle Eastern populations is destructive. We can, at times, play constructively on the margins, but we’re not even good at that.

The Obama administration needs a new foreign-policy motto: “First, do no harm.”

And we need to base our policies on our long-term interests, not on here-and-gone headlines. The enemy of the Egyptian people and of the American people is the same: Islamist fanaticism. And defeating radical extremists isn’t a smiley-face business.

When someone insists that he knows what God demands everybody must do, you can either submit or resist. Egyptians chose to resist. And the Muslim Brotherhood, not the Egyptian military, chose blood.

Egyptian Military cracks down on the Muslim Brotherhood; Kerry warns Netanyahu of delegitimization campaign ‘on steroids’ if talks fail

It sems another Mideast country is about to go up in flames. The Egyptian military has stomred camps set up by Pro-Moris protestors. As of this writing 95 people were killed.

CAIRO – Egypt’s capital descended into a chaotic bloodbath Wednesday after security forces moved in on protest camps set up by supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi, sparking deadly violence.

A month-long nationwide state of emergency was declared, and a nighttime curfew imposed in some areas, as the interim government tried to restore order.

At least 95 people were killed and 874 injured, the country’s health ministry said, but the toll looked certain to rise as unrest spread from Cairo to other parts of the country.

Witness reports and pro-Morsi volunteers put the death toll much higher, but the none of their figures could be immediately confirmed by NBC News.

Turkey’s prime minister called on the United Nations Security Council to help, describing Wednesday’s events as a “massacre.”

“The international community, especially the U.N. Security Council and Arab League, must act immediately to stop this massacre,” Tayyip Erdogan’s office said in a statement.

John McCain and Lindsey Graham must be weeping that their beloved Muslim Brotherhood being taught a lesson. Odds are that al-Qaeda and Hamas will get more involved in terror acts on Egypt. The only people I have sympathy for are the Coptic Christians. They should get out of dodge asap!

John Lurch Kerry is nothing more than a black mailer.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has warned Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in recent weeks that Israel may be confronted with an international deligitimization campaign “on steroids” if renewed peace talks with the Palestinians fail to bear fruit, journalist Jeffery Goldberg reported on Tuesday in his Bloomberg View column.

Goldberg quoted anonymous officials as saying Kerry believes that Netanyahu fears deligitimization to the same degree that he fears Iran’s nuclear program.

Netanyahu is not only concerned that the delegitimization campaign could hurt Israel’s economy through boycotts, “he is said to be even more worried that this campaign will erode Israel’s ability to defend itself,” according to Goldberg.

Speaking on Monday ahead of peace talks set to take place in Jerusalem this week, Kerry said that Israel’s announcement of new settlement units in the West Bank and east Jerusalem “were to some degree expected,” and urged Israelis and Palestinians to move head with peace talks due to resume this week.

“What this underscores is the importance of getting to the table, getting to the table quickly” and resolving disputes over settlements and other issues, said Kerry. He added that he had spoken on Monday with Israeli negotiator Tzipi Livni and had called Netanyahu.

Peace In The Middle East? Your Turn Team Zero!

by Flyovercountry ( 77 Comments › )
Filed under Barack Obama, Hamas, Islamists, Israel, Middle East at July 31st, 2013 - 3:00 pm

It happens once every four years. The ubiquitous promises made to bring about peace in the Middle East are made by each Presidential candidate with the exact same tone and commitment as the contestants for Miss America claim that they would use their titles to help bring about, “world peace.” That is to say, in case the sarcasm was too nuanced for you, that after having personally witnessed thirteen of these national popularity contests, I find such promises to be shallow and meaningless.

Before we get to the discussion as to why, once again doing the same exact thing that has been tried since 1948, and failed each and every time will fail once again, (by both major political parties incidentally,) let’s get this little bit of disclosure out of the way. There is not one single incidence ever in recorded human history of a lasting peace being established diplomatically. give that a second or two to sink in.

Peace, for all of the whining, hand wringing, and endless self righteous bleating of the political left, has only ever been established as a result of one of, or a combination of the following three occurrences. One, a decided military victory of one side over the other. Two, an overwhelming imbalance of military strength of one side over the other, sufficient that the weaker side will just put up with what ever bothers them, and the stronger side decides that war is just not worth the distraction. Three, and my personal favorite by the way, free trade of goods and services are sufficient across the border to make hostility not worth the risk of what each side would lose economically in a conflict. In all of human history, those are the only three things that have led to a lasting peace between disparate peoples.

Still, just like each and every one of his Republican and Democrat predecessors before him, John Kerry this time will take his turn as our nation’s top diplomat, to once again get the Israelis and the Palestinians hashing out their differences and come to some sort of kumbayah understanding. Once again, in the spirit of monotony, color me skeptical. As I see it, we have a major problem at work here that nobody since 1948 has been willing to address. That is the simple fact that the, “Palestinians,” (the moniker is in quotation marks because the very concept of Palestinian is itself a lie to begin with,) do not want peace, or any type of free trade with their partners in the process. They want the eradication of every Jew in that region of the world, and then they’ll want the eradication of every Jew on the planet.

Special Note: As a member of the Jewish faith, I am stating for the record that I am not willing to be eradicated.

From the Hotair article linked to above:

Even as talks for a permanent Israeli-Palestinian peace got off to a cautious start in Washington Monday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told reporters in Egypt that no Israelis would be allowed to remain in a future Palestinian state.

Simply stunning, but illustrative is this bit of news which proceed the already doomed to failure, Israeli, “Palestinian,” talks yet again. We are constantly hearing the mindless chants from the political left about how Israel is an apartheid state. How exactly does that square with this demand? During the creation of Israel in 1948, there were other nations formed by the same U.N. resolution, all of them from parts of the Turkish Empire that Turkey did not want to deal with any longer. Israel and Jordan were formed as a homeland for the indigenous population, Arab and Jew alike. All Jews living in the region were evicted from their homes, including Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, and that number was around 700,000, give or take. At the same time, there were Arabs who lived in Israel, who were told that they were free to remain, and welcomed as Israeli citizens. About 700,000 left voluntarily when five surrounding Arab nations began broadcasting on their radio programming that all Arabs should get out of the way while the surrounding armies, “pushed every Jew into the sea.” Those Arabs, and there were a lot of those by the way, who stayed and helped protect Israel, remained, retained their homes and businesses. Those who left and took up arms against the Israelis were not welcomed back. Israel had no problem in assimilating the extra refugees, exiled from Arab nations. In the 65 years since, the surrounding Arabic nations, have found it impossible to assimilate the 700,000 exiled fellow Arabs referred to as, “Palestinians,” and have even managed to swell that number by forcing other members of their lower classes to become, “Palestinians,” as convenience dictated. Even with that set of facts, the supposed victims of apartheid Israel are demanding nothing less than the expulsion of every Jew from their land, which was never theirs in the first place.

The plainly obvious and yet sadly ignored truth of the matter is that the, “Palestinians,” want nothing to do with peace. They’ll accept and break more land for peace nonsense to continue in an effort to destroy Israel slowly if necessary, but their goal, is simply the eradication of Israel. In 2000, when Bill Clinton and Madeline Albright took their turn to attempt this fools errand, Yasser Arafat was offered everything he said that he wanted by Ehud Barak. When confronted with the complete capitulation to his wish list, Arafat’s response was to storm out of negotiations and instead declare the infamous Intifada, a six year war that accomplished nothing but misery for his people. Once again, when the Israelis were on the verge of administering that sound defeat of the, “Palestinian,” people, the U.S. stepped in, George W. Bush and Condolleezza Rice this time, put the harness on Israel demanding that the war end with a negotiated settlement.

In order to label the Israelis as occupiers, one needs to perform logical gymnastics worthy of Olympic competition. In order to label the Israelis and not the, “Palestinians,” as apartheid, one must be willfully anti-Semitic. Peace unfortunately will not break out in the Middle East until these people are soundly beaten like red headed step children. Not just the, “Palestinians,” who are treated like sacrificial fodder by those pulling their strings, but those pulling the strings as well. The Shiite Mullahs in Iran, The Wahhabi monarchs in Saudi Arabia, The Muslim Brotherhood lunatics in Egypt and Libya, The Salafist War Lords of Yemen and Sudan, all must be taught that America is not a Paper Tiger, willing to be content with projecting American weakness abroad. Either that, or we take Israel off of her leash and let her deal with her problems in a manner that’s best for Israel.

Not all American Jews are taking their organizational leadership’s abuse of their values and views lying down

The unelected American Jewish “leadership” is composed of what the 19th century British humorist and writer Israel Zangwill referred to as “the trembling Israelites”.

by Caroline Glick

Last month, we learned that in addition to targeting groups that that oppose abortion and that support limited government and lower taxes, the Obama administration’s Internal Revenue Service has apparently been singling out non-leftist pro-Israel groups.

According to numerous media investigations, beginning as early as March 2009, a consortium of powerful forces including the Palestinian Authority, The New York Times, columnists in The Washington Post, administration-allied anti- Israel groups including J Street and the Arab American Anti- Discrimination Committee, and the State Department lobbied the IRS to discriminate against these pro-Israel groups.

They alleged that since these groups opposed the administration’s policy of coercing Israel to vacate Judea, Samaria and northern, southern and eastern Jerusalem, they had no right to receive tax-breaks as nonprofit groups.

There is no legal basis for the claim that US groups which lawfully oppose government policy should be barred from receiving nonprofit status.

[……..]

True, the centerpiece of the Obama administration’s Middle East strategy is to delegitimize the Jewish presence in these areas as a prelude to eliminating it. If nothing else, the contrast between Secretary of State John Kerry’s peripatetic efforts to restart peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel on the one hand, and his demonstrated indifference to the convulsions now engorging Egypt, not to mention the Obama administration’s generally lackadaisical attitude toward the Syrian civil war on the other hand, make that point.

Like President Barack Obama, Kerry has adopted the PLO’s position that talks between the Palestinians and Israel must be based on presumptive Palestinian sovereignty of all territories illegally captured by Egypt and Jordan in Israel’s War of Independence up to the 1949 armistice lines (falsely, and misleadingly referred to as the 1967 borders). Implicitly, the administration supports the PLO’s demand that for a Palestinian state to be formed, those areas – as well as much of Jerusalem – must first be ethnically cleansed of Jews.

The administration’s obsession with coercing Israel to make massive concessions to the PLO is based on its belief that the Palestinian conflict with Israel is the greatest source of all instability and anti-Americanism in the Arab world.

Every day, the utter folly and madness of this position is revealed. For the past two-and a- half years, it has been exposed in the chaos that has taken hold in state after state throughout the Arab world, and in the fanatical forces released by this chaos. True, Jew hatred is endemic throughout the Arab world. But as the demonstrations from Cairo to the killing fields in Aleppo have shown, this hatred has little impact on the actions of the hundreds of millions of people in the Arab world. When supporters of Egypt’s ousted Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi yell “[Interim President] Adly Mansour is a Jew,” they are not suggesting they will put aside their differences with Egypt’s military government if Israel reaches a peace deal with the PLO.

Thirteen years ago this month, the Palestinians rejected peace and statehood at the Camp David summit. Since then, not a day has passed when they haven’t taken some action that made clear they have no intention whatsoever of ever making peace with Israel. Their identity is based on the negation of Jewish peoplehood and Jewish rights.

Just last week, this state of affairs was grotesquely reinforced when the Palestinian Authority’s television station presented two little girls reciting a poem in which they castigated Jews as “filth,” the “most evil among creations, barbaric monkeys, wretched pigs,” whom Jerusalem will “vomit” out, and who are condemned to “humiliation and hardship.”

But the folly of the US’s Middle East policy has made no difference to the foreign policy establishment, which has connived, according to media reports, to deny pro- Israel groups that reject this position their legal right to nonprofit status by siccing the IRS on them.

One of the most notable aspects of the story of alleged IRS discrimination against nonleftist pro-Israel organizations has been the silence of the mainstream American Jewish groups in the face of this apparent persecution.

What does the silence of major American Jewish groups on this issue tell us about the nature of these organizations that claim to speak for the American Jewish community? [………]

And yet, the largest American Jewish groups have said nothing. They have not demanded any explanations from the IRS or the State Department. They have not demand apologies from the New York Times, J Street, the Arab American Anti-Discrimination or anyone else for maligning lawful organizations that operate well within the boundaries of law.

It’s possible that they are silent because they are afraid.

Groups like the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee have multi-million dollar budgets and they prize their access to the White House and the State Department.

Their leadership may fear that by objecting to anti-Israel discrimination, they will stop getting invited to White House Hanukka parties or that they themselves will become the targets of unjustified Federal investigations.

Perhaps it is fear. But perhaps they are silent because they share the goal of silencing voices that refuse to accept the Obama administration’s assertion that it is pro-Israel to support the establishment of a Palestinian terror state in Israel’s capital and in its historic and strategic heartland.

[……..]

Last month two rising Israeli political stars, Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett and Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon, expressed their opposition to a Palestinian state. In addition to stating his own opposition to such an entity, Danon also noted that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s support for the establishment of a Palestinian state is shared neither by the majority of the members of the Likud’s Knesset faction, nor by the majority of the ministers in his coalition government, and that the government would oppose the establishment of such a state were the issue brought to a vote.

These statements were not unprecedented. Far from it.

In January Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon noted that a Palestinian state would be an enemy of the Jewish state, saying “There are those who are trying to market [PA Chairman Mahmoud] Abbas as relatively moderate, but his goals are the same as those of Hamas. He does not believe in an agreement based on pre-1967 lines and he is refusing to come to the negotiating table.”

Rather than contend with the substance of these elected leaders’ remarks, or simply give them the respect due to duly elected representatives of the Israeli public, both the AJC and the ADL condemned them for speaking their minds. [……..]

As the Zionist Organization of America noted, the AJC falsely claimed that Ya’alon asked Netanyahu to reprimand Danon – his deputy – for speaking the truth.

The AJC and the ADL condemned Danon and Bennett because they claimed that by speaking the truth they harmed the chances of the “two-state solution.”

But of course, that is absurd.

The reason the so-called “twostate solution” has no chance of success is because the Palestinians reject the Jewish state, not because Jews reject another Arab state. Pointing this out is not harmful. It is essential. [………]

The only party that benefits from American Jewish groups attacking duly elected Israeli leaders for stating the truth is the Obama administration. It is Washington, not Jerusalem that insistently clings to the ridiculous “two-state solution.”

It is Washington, not Jerusalem that insists a policy of reducing Israel to an indefensible, riven and weak Jewish statelet without its capital city or heartland is the magic bullet for solving everything from the global jihad to Arab illiteracy and misogyny.

By defending the administration’s unhealthy obsession with Israel, these American Jewish groups, with multi-million dollar budgets and automatic access to the media, are promoting an agenda that necessarily rejects the legitimacy of Israeli elections, and the views of the majority of Israelis. [………..] These positions also pit them against the majority of American Jews.

As the ZOA noted, polls of American Jews carried out by the AJC itself over the past two years show that not only do the majority of Israelis oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state, the majority of American Jews oppose it as well. A Gallup poll taken over the past year showed that the majority of Americans in general also oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The silver lining in this story is that not all American Jews are taking their organizational leadership’s abuse of their values and views lying down. In addition to helping the ZOA to expand its reach, in community after community, activists, generally with no financial assistance, are forming new groups to advance the interests and values of America’s Jews that are being trounced by the major Jewish organizations.

Over the past 10 years independent activists have banded together under an assortment of names – Christians and Jews United for Israel, Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, JCCWatch and countless others to do the work that the American Jewish organizational leadership refuses to do.

In New York, JCCWatch has organized protests against the Jewish Federation-funded 92nd Street Y for repeatedly providing forums for outspoken Jewhaters including Alice Walker and Roger Waters to air their poisonous views.

In San Francisco, a nurse named Masha Merkulova founded the Rimon Club in 2011. The Rimon Club organizes events to educate the Jewish community about Israel.  […….]

According to senior Israeli officials, and leaked PA documents, after Obama came into office, his senior advisers told their Israeli interlocutors that they controlled the American Jewish community. Under Obama, these Israeli leaders were told, there would be no more American Jewish voices opposing the two-state solution or opposing pressure on Israel.

With J Street, they said, AIPAC would no longer defend Israel.

Maybe they were right. But what is certainly true, is that despite its audits, its alleged denials of nonprofit status, and its American Jewish mouthpieces, the Obama administration has not silenced the American Jews. From coast to coast, authentic, courageous American Jewish groups are forming and organizing. Their members understand that there are things that are more important than multi-million dollar budgets and invitations to White House parties.
