Friends and fellow citizens:   We observe today not simply a vote, but a celebration of freedom — symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning — signifying renewal, as well as change. For the Admins here have sworn before you and Almighty God that this internet endeavor would be a Blogmocracy – a binary revolution against the Monarchy blogs of our horrid past who insidiously wished to make liberty a crime as it threatened their apocryphal deification.  For any Blog to make submission a qualification for suffrage, is a violation of the tenants of liberty, and the rights granted to us all by the Creator.  By it the blessings of liberty are forever withheld.

To them a Blog is not a democracy, nor a republic.  It is an odious aristocracy, a hateful oligarchy of ego, the most hateful aristocracy ever established on the face of the internet, where the most groveling few hold dominion over the very citizens they are meant to serve.  It is a downright mockery for these oligarchs to talk to the posters on their blogs of their enjoyment of the blessings of liberty and freedom of speech while they are denied the use of the only means of securing it to them – the ballot.

This was the first Blog in the history of the world to be founded with a purpose.  The great phrases of that purpose still sound in every American heart: “All men are created equal”,”government by consent of the governed,” and “give me liberty or give me death.”  Well, those are not just clever words, and those are not just empty theories.  These words are a promise to every citizen that he or she shall share in the dignity of citizenship.

Our Admins know that if this noble view of the rights of men and women is to flourish, it must be rooted in Blogmocracy.  It is in furtherance of  this universal understanding that our humble Blogmocracy grants to our citizens the right to vote for that which will govern them.  And thus you are now called upon to act upon your suffrage, and let us know which new theme, you prefer for our Blogmocracy.

Yet, as we vote we shall dare not to forget that today we are the promoters of this first internet revolution.  Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch of liberty, and intellectual freedom has been passed to a new generation of Bloggers –tempered by prior conflict, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our Faith and heritage, and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human right to which this Blogmocracy has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home, at work, and around the world.

My fellow citizens, ask not what this Blogmocracy will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of Blog posters everywhere.  With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the Blog that we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on the internet, G-d’s work must truly be our own.

We’re keeping this post on top over the weekend. Poll closes at 11:59pm Sunday evening. Click “more” below to vote. -arwyn

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!
