Ask Yourself – Why Don’t Christians Care?

I sat on this story to see what the reactions would be…Wrath and I collaborated on this post.

Recently in Nigeria, at least 500 Christians were murdered, for doing nothing other than being Christians.   It probably won’t come as a surprise, but the attackers in all cases were Muslims.  The AFP reported the following regarding the Nigerian attacks:

UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Washington led calls for restraint on Monday after the slaughter of more than 500 Christians in Nigeria, as survivors told how the killers chopped down their victims.

Funerals took place for victims of the three-hour orgy of violence on Sunday in three Christian villages close to the northern city of Jos, blamed on members of the mainly Muslim Fulani ethnic group. …

“We have over 500 killed in three villages and the survivors are busy burying their dead,” said state information commissioner Gregory Yenlong.  “People were attacked with axes, daggers and cutlasses — many of them children, the aged and pregnant women.”

There are pictures on the net of the massacre in Jos, but because of their horribly graphic nature, I won’t be linking to them.  In addition to this despicable event in Nigera, not too long ago Christians were burned out of their homes and slaughtered in Pakistan.  In addition, we have reported here on the treatment of the Copts in Egypt, and the Christians in Lebanon.

Here’s more from Iraq:

In recent years a horrifying number of kidnappings, rapes and mutilations of Iraqi Christian girls has been perpetrated by Muslim gangs. Some 700,000 Christians are fleeing this terror, but often find themselves exposed to similar dangers when they arrive in neighboring Muslim countries. With no rights and no help from authorities, they are surely in the most desperate of situations.

As the Powerline commentary correctly points out, it seems to be open season on Christians all around the Muslim world.  So, why don’t Christians care?  Why was the world so concerned of the manufactured and false “Jenin massacre” where the Muslims claimed that Jews killed 500 Arab/Muslims, but completely uninterested in the actual massacre of 500 Christians in Nigeria?   Where is the Christian outrage and calls for the UN to file inquires, or send Nigeria to the International Court of Justice that are so prevalent any time Israel or the United States is simply accused of a misdeed?

“Jon” at Powerline has a hunch:

Maybe “mainstream” Christianity is dead, except as an appendage of secular liberal opinion. Maybe, as the world’s largest religion, Christianity has become so diffused that New World Christians don’t much relate to their co-religionists in Africa and Asia. I don’t know. What I do know is that it is much more dangerous to publish a cartoon of Mohammed than to slice apart a Christian with a machete.

AND/OR…and possibly a bigger problem, is main stream Christianity not concerned about these murders because of racism? I don’t mean the overt, Klan hood wearing racism, but the more silent type of racism by apathy. If this were 500 white Christians murdered by Muslims, or American Christian girls being raped I believe that the outcry would be intense and the retaliation against the perps very swift and severe.

Personally, we have no idea why the Christian world is so silent to the scourge being committed against Christianity around the world.  What we do agree on however, is that this deafening silence needs to end before it is too late.
