Criminal Assault

I’m no attorney, but this sure looks like a pretty clear-cut case of assault to me:

I’d like to see them take this to the local police and demand that charges be filed. It seems like these politicians feel entitled to physically accost citizens, and demand identification.

I can’t believe that this is happening in America. This guy should not only be voted out on his butt, he should spend a week in the local can.

As many of you are no doubt aware, Democratic Congressman Bob Etheridge is in the news for assaulting a student who asked him a question. Here’s the video of the incident that’s turning up all over the place.

Etheridge has already issued an apology for his odd and violent behavior.

I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.

Addendem by Speranza: A Democratic congressman from N.C. with anger management issues

Can you imagine if a Republican congressman acted like Bob Etherdige (D.- N.C. 2nd congressional district) if a student asked him a question on the street? (Etheridge grabs him in a headlock and refuses to let go of him when the student tells him to stop grabbing him.)  Why he might be accused of being a a hater or  of having a case of “bad craziness”.

Maybe it is my Catholic upbringing, but I’ve always been cursed with a bit too much empathy. It is often difficult to witness people bearing the full weight of the consequences of their decisions, even when it is richly deserved. (And, in the case of House Democrats few have ever been more deserving of reaping everything they’ve sown.) We’re human, after all, and witnessing people on the cusp of realizing that they’ve lost everything can be difficult.

Last week, Democrat Congressman Bod Etheridge (D-NC2) attended a fundraiser headlined by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He was asked by some students on the street whether he supported the “Obama Agenda.” He didn’t take it well.
