Just one month away from a massive swing to the right by the American voters, the GOP is back to its old tricks. Instead of nominating the best for the job, committee chair in this case, Soon to be Speaker Boehner has ignored the mandate from the voters and has made two ridiculous, and not to mention questionable, appointments to the Energy Committee and the Appropriations Committee.
Many are playing very close attention to what the leadership in the new congress will do, this far, the score is:
RINO’s 2 — Tea Party 0 in the first inning.
Remember incandescent lights? Until a few years ago, we made them in the US. Several factories employed American workers to make the bulbs. Well, all those workers are without jobs becasue of Rep Fred Upton, R-MI. He has sort of recanted as seen here:
Better late than never? Yes — but the newfound eagerness of Republicans vying for the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s chairmanship to repeal the impending ban on incandescent light bulbs raises another question: What was Congress smoking when it banned them?
Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., co-sponsored the ban. But listen to him now, with the chairmanship in his sights: “We have heard the grass roots loud and clear … . The last thing we wanted to do is infringe upon personal liberties — and this has been a good lesson that Congress does not always know best,” he told The Washington Times.
Compared to incandescent bulbs, the compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) boosted by the ban last longer and save energy. But CFLs’ higher prices, disposal problems due to the mercury they contain, vulnerability to temperature extremes and other downsides were well-known when Congress passed the ban.
And since then, U.S. jobs making incandescents have vanished as low-cost Chinese plants turn out CFLs — perhaps their biggest downside of all.
It’s good that Republicans who’ll control the House starting next month actually are heeding the public’s opposition to the incandescent ban. But another question lingers: What took them so long?
I am not buying the sudden conversion of Rep Upton. He represents the worst in a politician, one that takes choices away from the American people and forces his ‘enlightened’ decision by fiat on all of us. The American people are quite capable of picking light bulbs, Rep Upton. And as we all know, all of those nice new twistie CFL bulbs are made overseas. That’s strike two against this man, he killed American jobs on a whim, and took choices away from Americans. Nice pick there Speaker Boehner.

The Commerce Committee is going to be headed by Rep. Hal Rogers, R-KY. He is a very strong supporter of earmarks, pet spending that gets stuffed into every important and not so important bill. But, in yet another 12th hour conversion, it’s time to grab a shovel and dig, dig, dig our way out of debt!
So far, the leadership in the House is ignoring the election of 2010. The actions of the Upton and Rogers speak louder than their new words. RINO’s 2 — Tea Party 0 in the first inning.

paging gov palin, paging gov plain, now would be a really great time to make a great speach outlining the philosophy of the tea parties using these two appointments as the example of what is wrong in the gop!
