Sticky note attached to bacon shelf in meat cooler: Hope & Change at work here! High Prices - Thanks, Obama!

A special hat tip to Huckfunn, for allowing me the opportunity to write about this first amongst our little subcommunity of netizens.

I could very easily gone with another evil or incompetent theme for this posting and concluded it with the same old conclusion of it not mattering much, as the same disastrous results are what should have us all in a lather.  I will admit, there are plenty of times when this President and his minions have me perplexed.  Selling assault weapons to the Mexican Drug Cartels, who are effectively invading our country from the south is one of those times.  you may need some background information here, so I’ll do my best to explain it.  I say do my best, not because the facts are hard to comprehend, but because the facts are hard to believe.  Never before in the history of the entire universe has such a blind and unyielding arrogance been bestowed upon such an undeserving and unaccomplished dolt as our President.  This story may be the best possible example of this.

Operation, “Fast and Furious,” was established to track the activities of the Mexican Drug Cartels by keeping tabs on the use of their firearms.  If you are like me, that last sentence, which links to the story caused you to have a WTF moment.  So here was the purpose:

The operation was supposed to stem the flow of weapons from the U.S. to Mexico by allowing so-called straw buyers to purchase guns legally in the U.S. and later sell them in Mexico, usually to drug cartels.

The idea it seems was to sell guns to bad guys, and wait for them to be used, so that we would know which bad guys were doing what.  It an ATF agent or a private citizen got shot in the U.S., we would be able to determine which Cartel did it, as we gave them the gun, Brilliant!  At this point in our tale, you may be jumping up and down screaming, “BAD IDEA,” and as it turns out, you are not alone.

Instead, ATF documents show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms knowingly and deliberately flooded Mexico with assault rifles. Their intent was to expose the entire smuggling organization, from top to bottom, but the operation spun out of control and supervisors refused pleas from field agents to stop it.

So, here we have another example of people with actual experience and knowledge of how best to do their jobs being ignored by Administration Bureaucrats with zero actual experience, and as it turns out, a dangerous dose of arrogance tied to an overrated Ivy League Education coupled with a complete ignorance of the subject matter on which they were charged with managing.  To date, 150 U.S. citizens have paid the ultimate price for this exercise in stupidity.  For those of you who have the Obama Hope and Change at work here post it notes, feel free to apply a few to this article.

With the background out of the way, let the conversation begin.  Is President Obama evil or incompetent or does it even matter?  About a month ago, President Obama went to Texas and said the following, “We have done everything humanly possible to secure the border and you have never been safer.”  He also quipped that, “those people will never be satisfied, next thing they’ll want a moat, and to put alligators in that moat.”  So, to be clear, yes Mr. President, sign me up for the moat please.  At the very least, could you stop selling guns you say private, law abiding citizens of the U.S. should not be allowed to have to the Mexican Drug Cartels who are using them to kill private, law abiding citizens of the U.S.  There are two arguments here which must be made.  I realize that there are more than two, but these two are a necessity.  One, after years of debate about the Second Amendment, we have heard that private gun ownership leads to violent crimes being committed.  Of course, this is not true, but it keeps getting repeated none the less.  This leads to the completely unnecessary argument that if we take away the rights of private, law abiding citizens to own guns, that only criminals would have them, and render the rest of us unprotected.  We just never though our own government would be the ones supplying the bad guys with weapons.  How exactly is Operation Fast and Furious doing everything humanly possible to protect the border.  Do you realize that more Americans have died as a result of operation Fast and Furious than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined since President Obama has assumed his latest title?  I am still waiting for NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Time, NYT, Newsweek etc. to say a single thing about any of this.  Notice that this is a Fox News story.  If you refer to Fox as Faux, you are mistaken. It is time to wakey wakey and rub those sleepy eyes.  Two, please read the Constitution of the United States.  You will find that only one form of government expenditure is actually mentioned.  That is the government’s responsibility to maintain a military for the purpose of defending our nation against foreign threats.  It is the government’s responsibility to protect us and to keep us safe.  In the debate about budgets and spending cuts, I will always hear the left complain that the military budget should be cut, that we can not afford that in particular.  What is going on along our southern border is a catastrophe.  Armed foreigners have set up operations within our sovereign territory and are openly killing American Citizens.  That is the definition of an invasion.  Our President has sworn an oath to protect our country and our Constitution.  This oath said nothing about arming the invaders, no matter how idiotically well intentioned the weapons sales may have been.

Now we can discuss the evil or stupid bit.  I have a hard time believing that there was not a single person in control who did not know or have the foresight to realize the disaster that this would turn out to be.  Plenty of ATF agents sounded the alarm bells.  There is no way that all of Obama’s people are this bereft of functioning brain cells.  But it really doesn’t matter to me anyhow.  The end result is the same.  150 American lives have been lost as a direct result of the government’s program.  These people must be removed from power before they endanger the rest of us further.  Congressional hearings on this start on Monday, and it should be interesting to watch.  As an American though, I want to see something actually happen as a result of those hearings.  I don’t want more rhetoric and empty promises.  I want competent people put back in charge of the country.

As a side note, I keep hearing about how dumb George Bush is, or how dumb Sarah Palin is.  For you liberals out there who perpetuate those characterizations, how does this compare?  How do you correlate this exercise from Obama and team with intelligence.  I can guarantee you that Sarah Palin or George Bush on a 7 day bender, and immediately after being whacked in the head with a steel shovel would not have come up with this one.
