Bobby Jindal proposes Birth Control should be over the counter

When Socialist Republican Rick Santorum said he was OK with banning birth control and spent a week railing on how it’s evil, it did damage to the GOP. The Democrats used his comments in ad after ad that the GOP wants to ban contraceptives. It worked brilliantly and many single women are terrified of the Republican party. In a bold move to rebuke this line of attack, Gov. Bobby Jindal is proposing that Birth Control be sold over the counter.

Gov. Bobby Jindal said oral contraceptives should be available over-the-counter in a Thursday evening op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. The self-described “unapologetic pro-life Republican” governor of Louisiana said this would lower health-care costs, prevent government intrusion into citizens’ lives and fight the influence of big pharmaceutical companies.

“As a conservative Republican, I believe that we have been stupid to let the Democrats demagogue the contraceptives issue and pretend, during debates about health-care insurance, that Republicans are somehow against birth control,” Jindal said in the op-ed.

Jindal cited a December committee opinion from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists which came out in favor of over-the-counter access to the pill “to improve contraceptive access and use and possibly decrease unintended pregnancy rates.”

This is actually a very Conservative move on Bobby Jindal’s part. He is embracing Free Market concepts to birth control. I am of the opinion that many prescription drugs should be over the counter. Just put a warning and let consumers decide. By advocating that Birth Control pills be sold over the counter, Jindal takes an issue away from the left and promotes Free Market values.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!
