A stunning Right Win Victory!
Maybe one day, here…please!
Oh look, he’s a fiscon who wants to enforce the laws already on the books. Maybe a little personal liberty, smaller government, and state’s rights as well? A Coalition, yes that’s right, a coalition of the Right just handed the left a defeat that will keep them out of power for at least 10 years. They said he couldn’t connect with women, he called global warming “crap’, and he extolled the virtues of capitalism…and won in a landslide. Whooda thunk it ?
Tony Abbott to be new Australian prime minister after ‘landslide win’
Conservative leader Tony Abbott has celebrated a landslide victory in Australia’s general election, after reducing the Labour Party to its worst result in a century with promises of tough action against immigrants and scrapping a tax on carbon emissions.
The 55-year-old British-born former student boxer was long regarded as unelectable even by some of his own ranks and struggled to connect with voters, particularly women, thanks to sometimes abrasive style.
But he steered the Liberal-National coalition back to power after six years in opposition amid widespread disillusion with years of infighting in the ruling party.
Mr Abbott led four years of blistering attacks on Labour, deploying effective three-word slogans such as “great big tax” and “stop the boats” to target the government’s carbon tax, mining tax and its softer stance on asylum seekers. He has pledged to reduce foreign aid, to pay rewards to young unemployed people who find work and plans to travel to an Aboriginal community for a week each year to govern from the outback.
Abbott: I pledge myself to the service of this country
The Coalition has been swept to a convincing election victory in a result that could keep Labor in the political wilderness for a decade, with incoming prime minister Tony Abbott declaring the country is “under new management”.
ALP seats fell across the country on Saturday, ensuring Tony Abbott will be the 28th prime minister of Australia and have a commanding majority, holding up to 90 seats in the 150 seats in the House of Representatives.
From today I declare that Australia is under new management.
Mr Abbott said he would methodically deliver on his promises with a government that accepts it will be judged more by its deeds than its words.
