Well it looks as if Football is set to return. The players and owners have both agreed to a deal!  After the owners voted on the deal Friday, players voted and approved it today. Now they will begin training camps and get ready for the season!

WASHINGTON — Now it can be said with certainty: Get ready for some football!

NFL players voted to OK a final deal Monday, days after the owners approved a tentative agreement, and the sides finally managed to put an end to the 4½-month lockout, the longest work stoppage in league history.

“This is a long time coming, and football’s back,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “and that’s the great news for everybody.”

I’m glad, get ready for our football threads come September!

On a side note, it seems Ray Lewis’ threats of violence will not happen!

Ray Lewis threatens Crime wave if no NFL Season

Baltimore Raven linebacker and media darling Ray Lewis, makes an ass of himself again. He claims that if the NFL lockout continues, there will be a crime wave. You read that correctly. He claims many people depend on the NFL and will go violent if they don’t get their games.

On ESPN’s “Sportscenter” on Sunday night in an interview with Sal Paolantonio, Lewis — who was referred to as one of the three most influential players in the NFL, along with the Indianapolis Colts’ Peyton Manning and the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady — addressed the possibility of a canceled 2011 NFL season. The main threat according to Lewis? Pride.

[….]

Lewis said a lockout would impact more than just NFL players.

“What we’re going through right now, we’re affecting way more than us,” he said. “Too many people live through us. People live through us. Walk in the streets the way I walk in the streets.”

And according to Lewis, one of the major results of lockout would be an increase of evil, which he says will come in the form of more crime.

Ray Lewis is threatening violence if there’s no NFL season. This really will win sympathy for the players side in this dispute. He should stick to Old Spice commercials.

NFL to resume court ordered negotiations

The NFL lockout is one that could have a huge economic impact. The NFL brings in billions of dollars in revenue for clothes and TV. Not to mention the money generated at bars for alcohol and food.  The owners are trying to get a 2 week extension on the season. Something the players refuse because already with a 16 game season, they suffer injuries. Most teams don’t look the same by December as they do in September.

Now the Federal government is involved and is forcing the 2 sides to talk. If no agreement is reached, a judge will impose one.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The NFL and its players resumed court-ordered mediation Tuesday with a federal judge’s decision expected soon on a request to immediately halt a lockout now in its second month.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones joined the NFL’s contingent in Minneapolis as talks resumed following a three-day break. Jones walked in with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and others, including Denver owner Pat Bowlen and Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy. All declined comment.

DeMaurice Smith, the head of the players’ trade association, did not attend due to a family emergency. Linebacker Mike Vrabel and Hall of Fame defensive end Carl Eller were among the players on hand.

The talks are the latest step in the contentious fight over a new collective bargaining agreement. Sixteen days of mediated talks in Washington fell short, resulting in a class-action antitrust lawsuit filed by the players against the NFL and the league’s first work stoppage since 1987.

As a Football Fan, I hope this issue is resolved soon. If there’s no football come fall, many fans will be upset and the sport will suffer.
