My internest friend raincoaster (a witty sentient from Canuckistan and author of the longest debate thread) posted in support of the Occupy Movement, and provided some linkage. Rain and I disagree on many political issues, but we still get along. OccupyWhatever is one topic where we diverge as our effluent flows in different directions; mine flows downhill.

Occupy Vancouver wants people to give them just a few small items:

Media team, walkie talkies, press passes, whiteboard, printer, ink, paper, tables, chairs, media tent, rocket stick (prepaid), Boom mic and stand, extension cables, super long internet cable, 4 power bars, External hard drives, SD cards, Apple laptops with final cut pro, PC laptops with premier or AVID, HD cameras, Cables (USB, FireWire, etc), flip HD camera, Any other film/video equipment (lights, generators, Gaffer tape, power cables, umbrellas, tarps, scissors, duct tape, saran wrap (for waterproofing), re-usable rain ponchos, Dell 1525 Batteries with Rapid Chargers, Double A and Triple A Batteries, HDSLR and Video Camera Rain Covers, generator (1000 watts minimum, 2000 is good), two 4G hotspots (clearchannel is good brand), laptop of 2.4ghz core 2 duo or greater, rubber maid containers, musical instruments, tarps, twine, large plastic water containers, childrens books, cd player, portable radio, batteries, WILLINGNESS TO COME PLAY, Rubbermaid containers, power cords, hot plates to make warm yummy vegan food, reusable plates, cups and cutlery, 12′ x 12′ tarp, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, mixer, coolers, plastic bins, serving bowls, prepared foods, soups salads, fruit & veg, caffeine free hot beverages, hot chocolate, The Education Station, NEEDS A TENT / CANOPY and chairs, MEDICS AND SECURITY TEAM, Walky Talkies, White Boards.

Let’s see. They want free food and shelter, a lot of miscellaneous containers and utensils and pricey electronics. They omitted water, clothing, toilet facilities and personal hygiene products (soap?) which are obviously not essential to the OccupyWhatever contingent.

“Dude! Here’s some yummy vegan food on a reusable plate that hasn’t been washed. Have a fork – I licked it clean. And if you have to take a capitalist later, we have a Maytag box equipped with a Hefty bag over there. Eat with your right, wipe with your left. Enjoy!”

When they’re tired of urban camping, who gets to keep all these freebees? Will they pay for them, return them, donate them to charity, or sell out to capitalism and offer them up on Craig’s List? Yeah, that’s a rhetorical question… The hypocrisy is amazing – check out this brilliance.

I don’t know, Babs, but I do know this: your uvula’s on the fritz, and it’s time for The Overnight Open Thread.

Protesters pray on a disused billboard during a demonstration to demand the resignation of Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sanaa, Yemen, Friday, Sept. 30, 2011.

A significant safety factor was figured into the structural engineering of that sign. Were I to protest something I sure as hell wouldn’t climb up into a lightning rod with two dozen others; nor would I bounce my head in synchronization on a bigass teeter-totter 30 feet or so off the ground.

(Can you spot the apostates? They’re the ones not mooning, but they’re likely checking the bubble level so they know when to rush the ladder.)

And it’s a full moon, or close enough, which means it’s time for a group howl on The Overnight Open Thread.

Iran exploding again?

While our POTUS wonders why the Islamic world is not “unclenching” its fist and why it did not get the message that “America is your friend” -the Iranian people are again taking to the streets to try to throw off the shackles of this Dark Age regime. I would not hold my breath that Obama will do anything more then symbolically “vote present” when the blood flows again. Instead of pie in the sky fantasies of an Israeli air strike, this is probably the best way to neutralize Iran’s imperial ambitions.

Iran Erupts in Holy Day Clashes

Iranian opposition protesters clashed with security forces in Tehran.

Tens of thousands of Iranian protesters clashed with security forces nationwide, as a major religious holiday was convulsed by what appeared to be the worst street violence since antigovernment demonstrations broke out more than six months ago.

In the capital of Tehran, security forces opened fire on crowds in the central neighborhood of College Square around 11:30 a.m., killing at least four protesters, according to opposition Web sites, eyewitness accounts and online videos. Opposition sites put the death toll as high as eight in Tehran by late Sunday.

Iranian authorities confirmed four people had died in clashes, but denied they were killed by the security services.

Among the protesters slain on Sunday was the nephew of Mir Hossein Mousavi, Iran’s top opposition leader, according to Mr. Mousavi’s official Web site. The nephew, Seyed Ali Mousavi, was participating in antigovernment protests in Tehran on Sunday, the site said.

Clashes broke out in many cities, including Isfahan and Mashad, according to witnesses and footage on Iranian Web sites. In a sign of widening public discontent, protests recently also flared in smaller, more conservative towns far from major urban centers like Tehran and Isfahan.

It was impossible to independently verify the online accounts, though many of the sites reported reliably about past demonstrations. Since Iran’s controversial June presidential vote — which the opposition claims was stolen from Mr. Mousavi — authorities have banned news coverage of unauthorized gatherings.

Tehran hospitals reported receiving waves of injured people, both from opposition and security forces, with gunshot wounds, broken bones and cuts, according to opposition sites. Protests continued late into the night in Tehran and in other smaller and more conservative cities, like Ardebil and Arak.

Sunday’s violence coincides with Ashura, the culmination of a 10-day commemoration of a revered Shiite saint, Imam Hossein, who was killed fighting injustice against the ruler of the time.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have completely HAD ENOUGH OF PAYING OVER 50% OF MY INCOME IN TAXES. It’s time the lackeys in the government, be it Federal, State and Local are told enough is enough!

At any rate, there is a place to FIGHT BACK and put these bureaucratic scumbags in their place.

Re-Tea Party is a grassroots organization that everyone should check out.
