[Note: This was originally scheduled & posted last Saturday night but accidentally got bumped.]

Cool stunts (if real) but absolutely no respect for mechanical audio. I couldn’t find any background for that video aside from a blurb that said the guys found a stash of 400+ vinyl records and a DJ turntable – with a suspicious brand name I’ve never heard of before. Watch for the James Brown move at 0:30 in.

Let’s get out the grooves, toss that analog splatter on the platter and spin the stacks ‘o wax on this edition of The Overnight Open Thread.

It’s A Hot Curvy Girl With Tatts On Stand-Up Bass Singing Lead Kind Of Sunday Night

Any band named HorrorPops gets my vote. There’s something inherently cool about a mashup between punk, psychobilly, hotrods and Denmark. Besides, they got a hot curvy girl with tatts on stand-up bass singing lead.

And speaking of hot curvy girls with tatts on stand-up bass singing lead, it’s time for a hot curvy stand-up edition of The Overnight Open Thread.

Saturday Night Blues

On growing up in New Orleans Parish: “There was music all around us, and in my family you’d better play something, even if you just banged on a tin can.” Lonnie Johnson

Lonnie Johnson created the single-note guitar solo in the 1920s, and decades passed before the guitar was regarded as more than a background rhythm instrument. Although Johnson is primarily regarded as a bluesman, he played other styles equally well.

I don’t know who’s on drums or piano, but that’s Willie Dixon on bass, and the vid is likely from the mid to late 1960s. Don’t know who introduced Lonnie Johnson on that vid either, so the best thing is for me to shut up and introduce
The Overnight Open Thread.

[Update: Don’t miss tomorrow’s BlogMockRadio Show at 8PM EST. Special Guest to be announced. Lizardheads gonna be ‘splody.]

The Day After Earth Day

This 2009 vid sums up my opinion of the pointless inanity of “Earth Day.”

The first Earth Day, in 1970, was named after the best Cat Woman in the schlocky Batman TV series, Eartha Kitt. Yeah, Julie Newmar was hot, but Eartha was somehow hotter. On that day, the hippies and environmentals collided, and debated endlessly on the topic of global cooling vs. global warming, and what to do about it. Since the data available at that time showed a cooling trend, they chose global warming after a coin flip. Eartha won the toss. She was arguably hotter. “Eartha Day” was misspelled in a Washington Post article, and “Earth Day” was born. [via]

That description was part of a hoax I was invited to assist with several years ago – classic sockpuppetry of the best kind, presented for conspicuous consumption on The Overnight Open Thread.
