The biggest thing in the NFL this week. Sean Puffy P. Diddy-Daddy Coombs (who has gone through more name aliterations than Prince, while possessing only 1% of the talent) announced that he would seek to buy the Carolina Panthers and install Colin Krapperdick as quarterback. Yeah, Puffy Pimp Daddy – that oughta fill up the seats. Does he know even cellar-dwelling NFL teams go for $1 Billion? What would really be fun is to watch this clown take the team over and find every decent player scrambling for free agency as soon as their contract was up.
It’s Christmas Eve! I was thinking of doing a blog version of “A Visit From St. Nicholas” but unfortunately I realized at the last minute my name was not Buzzsawmonkey. The debate will rage this evening whether to open the presents tonight or wait till tomorrow. Considering at this moment the dearth of presents for ME and the abundance for the Football Savant Offspring and my daugher-in-law, I can sleep in……
And here’s to the Guys – on the field and off. Moms are easy to buy for. Stores are laden with pretty things to get for Mom. How many Dads, I wonder, have a secret stash of Old Spice Soap on a Rope stored in the inner recesses of a linen closet? And when they opened it Christmas morning, looking into the eager faces of their offspring, you would have sworn they had handed the Kohinoor Diamond.
The following will be hoping for candy canes instead of coal in their sports socks
Bucanneers @ Panthers

Lions @ Bengals
Dolphins @ Chiefs
Bills @ Patriots

Chargers @ Jets
Rams @ Titans

The NHL – actually takes a four-day break at Christmas and won’t return until December 27th.
I can’t think about Golf when it’s 41 degrees outside, much less what’s going on on the East Coast. Stay warm, everyone.
As always, this is your Sunday open thread, time to discuss everything on your mind, and share last-minute shopping battle stories.
And from me and mine to you and yours – a Very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

If I can’t find time tomorrow to stop by, everybody have a very Merry Christmas.

Wow, what my next younger bro and I got for Christmas, 1965 I believe it was. It was an unusually warm day but snow was already on the ground up here in the NYC area, from a previous storm. The fog (convection ?) hovering over the snow made a pretty surreal scene in which voices were muffled and one could duck and hide from others in the cover of it (fog). In fact, it was so warm in NY (“How warm was it ?”), we didn’t need our winter coats.
I remember that each walkie talkie, like our transistor radios, took a 9v battery – pretty new to us and smaller than the C and Ds which weighted down so many toys. Amazing how small and lightweight they’ve gotten since then (yet apparently the 9vs haven’t been improved upon for radios, eh ?).
Not a big deal but a fond memory of an unusual Christmas which your post just reminded me of. I hope your girls have as much fun with them as my bro, our friends and I all had with them.
* If I remember correctly, it was the same year we got ‘Monkey Guns’, the rifle/pistol, helmuts, the whole ‘Monkey Army’ deal or possibly it was GI Joes ? How different kids toys were back then huh ?
