Been standing 6 hours on a city corner smiling and collecting cash for Veteran Support. It’s Poppy Day in NZ. The Army Reserve were LATE! So we lost about 10% of our take in the first 6 hours. Bloody Reserves. Their Sergeants have to ask them to p-l-e-a-s-e turn up rather than ordering them to be on parade at 0530. The ‘poppies did not get delivered until 0810 at which time a goodly proportion of office workers were already at their desks and inaccessible.
Still there were some positive highlights. Like the pretty Chinese lady who thanked the defences forces for their services pushed $100 through the slot in my bucket and received her 4 cent poppy. Or the business man ( normally not a demographic that gives) who claimed that he didn’t have any cash and he’d come back when he did but I gave him a poppy on trust. 5 minutes later he arrived back and pushed $60 into the bucket.
My back hurts, my feet hurt and I’m weary from having been up since 0515. The mayor didn’t show up but he had a hospital pass so I’ll forgive him. In his stead the Minister of Defence ( Kiwi equivalent of Sec Defence) showed up Ron Mark down at the Central Railway station and we had a long chat before we kicked the collection off. Got myself an invite to talk more to him about the run down in NZ Armoured forces and the alternatives available like IMI’s Iron-Fist active defence for armoured vehicles.
All in all a good day.
Looking forward to a Guiness with the guys at the Claddah Irish Pub this afternoon.

I don’t think the chump has the brains for it. If Eddie Haskell had grown up to be a lawyer, he’d be Cohen.
Second, Cohen would go to Club Fed at Fort Dix, not Leavenworth for God’s sake. I seriously doubt that the “Black” guy who’s doing 7 years for insider trading is going to regard his scuzzy ass with any worries. The worst thing he’ll be dealing with there is the obnoxious Martin Shkreli.

They DNC spent $400 to grab a headline. It would not surprise me if they never even bother to serve anyone with the complaint and just let the 120-day service period expire and voluntarily dismiss the complaint. But today they’ll get some nifty headlines that let everyone know they’re SERIOUS! and to distract from the request by the 12 Republicans in the House for an investigation. Look! Squirrel!
In 10 days everyone will even forget this complaint was filed but their willing partners at CNN and MSNBC will put on their very serious “lawsuit” faces today at least.
If for some reason they actually DO serve the summons and complaint, I personally don’t see how it survives a FRCP 12(B)(6) motion to dismiss for failure to state a claim for which relief can be granted. But holy hell, if it goes to discovery – stock up on the popcorn. My only annoyance is that discovery isn’t filed with the court so I couldn’t use PACER to access it for our enjoyment.

Common misconception. You have to have served the complaint within 120 days or you get hit with a show cause order as to why you have failed to do so. Which means you essentially have to show due dilligence in service of process.
I went to the Southern District to look up the complaint so I have the case no. and will be keeping an eye on it. One look at the defendant line-up tells me they are NOT serious. The parties are: The Russian Federation, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, GRU Operative Using the Pseudonym “Guccifer2.0”, Aras Agalarov, Emin Agalarov, Joseph Mifsud, Wikileaks, Julian Assange, Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. (which probably no longer exists), Donald J. Trump Jr., Paul J. Manafort, Jr., Roger J. Stone, Jr., Jared C. Kushner, George Papadopoulos, Richard W. Gates, III and John Does 1-10. (instead of the more generic “DOES”, which is odd).
They’re in for an ass-kicking in discovery. Wikileaks and Assange have maintained from the beginning that the Russians didn’t give them anything. So Julian may just release the name of that Democrat operative I strongly suspect DID give him the emails. And the DNC better hope against hope it wasn’t Seth Rich.

And I’m so used to the old rules – I forgot the District Courts have shortened the time to 90 days, not 120.
As long as they serve ONE of the named defendants, they won’t be hit with a show cause order that mandates dismissal for want of prosecution. So, let’s say they serve Roger Stone. His ANSWER will be due 20 days from the date he was served (you must serve by hand unless you obtain a Waiver of service, which I seriously doubt any of the defendants will grant).
Where they might be able to buy themselves some more time is the foreign entities, which have to be served in accordance with the Hague Convention for foreign service of process; however, both Ecuador and the Russian Federation are signatories so they already have the mechanism in place, which would facilitate service within those countries.
So what they essentially would have to prove with the unserved parties is why they were unable to perfect service on them within the period prescribed by statute. Not going to be easy to do. I’m going to check back in a week and see if they’ve filed the Service of Summons endorsed on anyone.
Guacamole and chips should either be it’s own food group or a controlled substance. I haven’t decided which.

God help us, we’ve taken ANOTHER cat in. She showed up Thursday night & ate almost 3 cans of food, and went through another 3 cans last night. As skittish as she was Thursday, we were sure she was completely feral, but we were able to pet and pick her up last night.
Mrs. MF brought her in the house & she’s in the living room in a cage until she’s checked for any nasty things like Feline leukemia or AIDS, rabies, etc. She’s very sweet and looks to be about a year old. We’re hoping she’s not pregnant.
