IT’S AN OPEN THREAD, and WEEKEND OOT…
5/8 last week, 30/55…1400/1000 overall. We’ve made 40% and are beating the market. This is tough to do with Trump as President. I’ve made 35% this year in my 403b. Of course, I have some very aggressive funds given that my horizon is…now just…20 years. I’m old. 😉
It is Championship Week!
Friday Night:
#5 Utah v. #13 Oregon 8:00 PM….PAC12 Championship…The Ducks were overrated again this year and no one saw the Utes making it this far. Utah has a hell of a QB and are 6.5 point favorites. I think that O’s O might be up to this challenge…their defense might not be tho…Utes beat the spread. This will be a great game.
Saturday:
#7 Baylor v. #6 Oklahoma 12:00 PM…Big12 Championship…In this rematch, OU is giving 9. I just can’t see Baylor not covering, the Bears only lost by 3 a few weeks ago.
#20 Cincinnati v. #17 Memphis 3:30 PM…AAC Championship…This is another rematch where the winner of the last game is giving nearly the same spread that they won by. Cinci is getting 9.5 and beats the spread. If yinz like track meets, this one is for yinz!
#4 Georgia v. #2 LSU 4:00 PM in Hot’lanta: ‘Bama is out because Nick Saban made a YUGE mistake, mark that one down as he doesn’t make many. This just proves that he is mortal. It’s LSU, Ohio State, and Clemson left with the real shots to win. OSU won’t be able to hang with either Clemson or LSU. LSU is giving 7 to the Bulldogs and cover. Its LSU’s national championship to lose at this point.
#23 Virginia v #3 Clemson 7:30 PM…ACC Championship, Yeah right, I think Clemson is giving 30…I ain’t betting on this. Clemson’s starters will be out by the second quarter.
#1 Ohio State v. #8 Wisconsin 8:00 PM…Big10/11 Championship…yeah, Land-grant Schools can’t count. They are really good at farming, veterinary science, and meteorology tho…REALLY GOOD….OSU stomped a mud-hole in M’s face last week. The line was 14.5 last time W met and OSU won by 31. The line is 15.5 this time. This time, OSU might sit their starters after the game is in the bag. OSU doesn’t cover. They really don’t have to. They are in with a win. Nah, they beat the spread.///I’m really on the fence over this one…
OK…W covers.

There are surveys about if you can find them. They make pretty sad reading.
Still don’t paint yourself into a corner and cut yourself off from the sacraments. That’s what Frank’s side want you to do. Remember to separate the OFFICE of Pope from the temporary occupant of that office of Pope. Frank can’t have all that many breakfasts left in him after all. Alas even if Frank’s election to Pope was more than ‘dodgy’ as I believe it was and he broke Canon Law to steal the election, he’s still the Pope *spit* by acclamation and through occupancy of the Seat of Peter. That is also embedded in Canon Law to protect not the pope ( and we’ve has quite a few dodgy ones) but to protect the Petrine Office itself.
Hunker down, find yourself a Traditional Mass of the Latin variety and ride out the storm. I travel 70 miles weekly (one way) to do just that and IT’s WORTH EVERY DROP OF GAS! There are quite a few available if you look and ‘the Remnant’ survive in these outposts of Faith awaiting rescue.

RocketLabs just needs more printers printing all those engines.

If not then Tucker had better ‘get some savvy quickly’ and put some distance between himself and this!
@ Aussie Infidel:
Both.
The ‘facts’ Tucker spouted about immigration reform are all completely false and I now know 2 things
1. I know where he got them
2. They are constructed to build resistance to any immigration reform that isn’t ‘perfect’
His claims about loopholes being abused were a tautology. By definition, loopholes are abused. And I’ve never seen legislation that doesn’t have them.
I want to think Tucker is being naive but I dunno. The point I’m at now in the research always seems to end up at Daily Caller being a media entry point for some questionable people. But I’m not done, so no conclusions yet.
Keven McCarthy sent out email about an hour ago saying the legislation is coming to the House floor on Weds, we have to scramble, do whip counts, etc. So Keven thinks they have the votes, if he decides he doesn’t he’ll pull it.

While discussing his 2020 competitors, Bloomberg said, “Cory Booker endorsed me a number of times, and I endorsed Cory Booker a number of times. He’s very well spoken, he’s got some good ideas.”

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg apologized to Sen. Cory Booker after referring to him as “well spoken” while talking about diversity in the Democratic primary.

Bloomberg’s remark triggered flashbacks of a similar statement his 2020 competitor Joe Biden used about then-candidate Barack Obama in 2007.
“I mean, you got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden, 77, said in an interview at the time. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

Max Blumenthal got thrown in the hoosegow, then all charges dropped? WTF?
(he’s Sydney Blumenthal’s son, so Max is literally The Son of Satan)
———
Blumenthal was detained for nearly two days after police raided his Washington, DC office in October. The month-old warrant for his arrest listed the journalist as “armed and dangerous,” and police carrying out the warrant reportedly threatened to kick down his door. The government’s case was based solely on an unsubstantiated claim made by a right-wing Venezuelan opposition activist, Naylet Pacheco, who alleged that Blumenthal and a friend had assaulted her during a protest at the Venezuelan embassy in Washington
https://www.rt.com/usa/475328-blumenthal-charges-dropped-arrest-venezuela/
Max Blumenthal is shall we say a ‘complex character’. He’s obviously a creature of the left but he’s also got the odd positive attribute. His distinction between anti-Semitism and Zionism is well known, but then he spoils it all by throwing his hand in with Palestinian and Hamas bomb throwers. He is has also seen the error of his ways regarding Assad and the current Syrian regime. He’s smart enough to see that Assad was the best and only protector of Syrian Christians ev en though at the same time he was a dictator and a secular Baathist to his bootstraps. Still in the real world beggars can’t be choosers and the Syrian Christians were a stable and ancient group in the State of Syria until the US NeoCons got involved in their attempts at regime change and we all know how that turns out … every time.
Blumenthal’s attitudes towards the Russians is also nuanced although he over does it by throwing his hand in totally with the likes of RT and Sputnik. The last thing the US needs is a hostile Russia being driven into the clutches of the real threat Xi’s China. The US has plenty of ‘leverage’ with the Russians as their economy is totally resourced based and therefore vulnerable to resource price pressure. You do NOT have to like the Russians but a rational US position is to get along with Russia. Sure Putin is a gangster but so are half the rulers of nations that the US has to deal with on a daily basis. The thing to remember is that although the Russian economy is now only equivalent to that of Spain, it still holds more nukes than the US and has the capability of actually delivering them. Sometimes it’s best to just get along rather than driving the Russians into the arms of the Chinese… the real threat to the USA.
As I said Max Blumenthal is a ‘complex’ character. Heavy handed oppression by US Feds for his collusion with the butchers shop that is Venezuela not withstanding!

Barrett, Rogers plan to declassify black space programs
For Rogers, that overclassification is one of the reasons it’s been so difficult for him and others to build support both in the public and with other members of Congress for a Space Force, a sixth branch of the military under the Air Force uniquely focused on space as a war fighting domain.
“As members of the Armed Services Committee and the defense appropriators, we get it. But we have to have our other colleagues in the Congress to be supportive of us making the changes we need and the resources we need into this,” he said. “It’s not going to happen until they understand the threat and the dependence we have. And I don’t think that can happen until we see significant declassification of what we’re doing in space and what China and Russia are doing, and how space is in their day to day lives.”

Media obsession with Prince Andrew’s Epstein sex scandal hides Clinton involvement
…
There’s likely a reason for it — to deflect attention from the growing evidence that Bill, Hillary, and even Chelsea Clinton have had a pretty spectacularly intense association with the very same pervert.
The Daily Mail has been on the job and has found another credible witness, a former contractor of Epstein’s at his New Mexico “cowboy village” ranch who says the Clintons jetted in annually on Epstein’s Lolita Express and had a grand old time on Epstein’s many-camera’ed grounds. Some opening points from the Mail:
Bill and Hillary Clinton would stay at Jeffrey Epstein’s New Mexico ranch frequently after they left the White House, former estate workers told DailyMailTV
The former president was Epstein’s closest ‘celebrity mate’ and the Clintons visited Zorro Ranch ‘a whole bunch of times’, a former contractor who ran the IT system at the property said
The family never stayed in the main house but bunked down in a special cowboy-themed village created by Epstein, which lies a mile south of his own villa, sources said
The guest homes are next to other traditional Wild West-style buildings such as an old schoolhouse and saloon bar, which are all near Epstein’s private airstrip, where he arrived on his private planes
And to read the details of the report is enough to give the gross-outs to anyone. Why were the Clintons going to a place Epstein called his “baby-making ranch”? What was that about Epstein having an eight-person “party shower”? Did the Clintons do the “party shower”? Was it on film? How many times? And who else was in the pen with them? What about that party room with the stripper poles? Did the Clintons go there, too? What was the Secret Service thinking, or did Bill bug out again on his Secret Service? And why are taxpayers paying for this farce?
Why again did Epstein have that icky portrait of Bill Clinton wearing a blue dress on his Manhattan mansion wall?
As one of the contractors who witnessed this, Jared Kellogg, told the Mail:
‘My contact was Brice, their main concern was that there was no video surveillance on the property at all. I thought this was a simple request, as they wanted surveillance to protect their investment. It’s a huge site.
‘But what was weird was that the whole time I was on site, Brice would be bragging about how the Clintons would visit, the whole family. Not just Bill, but Bill, his wife, their kid, and they would stay on the ranch itself.
More ickiness about Epstein’s obsession with cameras:
Instead of using an expensive, robust camera system, which used underground cables, he wanted a ‘point-to-point wireless fluid mesh design’, which means cameras are operating via antenna, and is considerably cheaper.
After Kellogg did an estimate and sent in a plan, he never heard back.
He said: ‘They had this huge facility, but it felt like they didn’t have the money to do anything. They were trying to find the most cost-effective way to transmit video footage and we had to come up with a point-to-point wireless fluid mesh design because normally we want to trench everything. It saves money as you don’t have to build a trench and put in a cable.
Sound like someone who’s been blackmailed? You decide.
Now, arguably, one could argue that the press is saying nothing about this, given that the contractor was a different kind of witness from Virginia Giuffre, the credible young woman who says Epstein trafficked her with Prince Andrew when she was a teenager.
But the Mail slips in something that hasn’t appeared significantly in the press at all: that Giuffre also says she saw Bill Clinton at Epstein’s pervert haunts being honored by the pedophile himself.
Why aren’t the media covering that? Now we have the Clintons pinned at two places — the “cowboy ranch” and the Caribbean pervert island — and no one’s saying anything. It’s all about Prince Andrew.
Yet Eptein was obsessed with cameras and obviously blackmail. He roped in Prince Andrew. But the real question is to what extent he got the Clintons. With all these new revelations rolling out, why is the press silent?

The Kinzhal Kh-47M2is a derivative of the500 Nm range Iskander -M. It’s an exo atmospheric hypersonic Mach 10 ballistic missile with a range of about 1200 Nm. It’s normally carried centre body on a supersonic MiG31K strategic bomber. Given the range it is well outside the AAA bubble surrounding a Carrier Battle Group.
The warhead can either be conventional and target a specific carrier or nuclear which makes it a tactically deployment pattern fleet destroyer. The trick is how terminally manoeuvrable can a Mach 10 missile actually be?

It makes a hypersonic warhead …PREDICTABLE .. and therefore able to be defeated by Laser weapon systems or even a cloud of shrapnel along its line of flight where you use its velocity as a weapon against itself. A cloud of tiny shrapnel gets ‘run into something doing Mach 10 and the energy transfer vaporises the shrapnel AND the TARGET.

Chinese scientists have successfully bred monkey-pig hybrids as part of research into the growth of human organs for transplantation in animals.
Although the two chimera piglets died within a week of being born, both were found to have DNA from macaque monkeys in their heart, liver, spleen, lung and skin.
They were bred from more than 4,000 embryos which were implanted into a sow using IVF, according to the New Scientist.

I’m reminded of the way they used to fly the same squadron of bombers over Red Square during their big parades over and over to make it look like they had hundreds of them.

I did not realize that. Do you have a link to that history, I’d like to come up to speed on that
Bedtime. The current rumor is that the Horowitz report, due out tomorrow, is embargoed until 1 pm.

wait, what? Did a volcano just erupt in New Zealand?
White Island. Uninhabited except for tourists. Now unaccounted for. I have no idea what the geography there is like so I don’t know distances

Still I witnessed some VERY innovative airplane handling from an Aeroflot crew on a Gate at Heathrow once. They couldn’t get a tug to back their aircraft for 30 minutes making them run late. Not to worry ! The Russian skipper asked there were any airplanes behind him. When Ground said no he just wrenched the reversers back and poured on the power and reversed off the gate under his own reverse thrust. Alas by the time he’\d turned through 90 degrees he was now pointing down the slot between the rows of airplanes and some poorly parked cargo trollies. He blew them to hell before he cancelled his reverse. Then he added some positive thrust and sidled his way onto the taxiway.
I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. The guy was batshit crazy but had balls made of brass. Nobody said anything!

White Island off the coast in the Bay of Plenty. It is uninhabited except for tourist boats on day trips and helicopters also landing tour parties. It used to be moved for the extensive fields of sulphur . Lots of volcanic activity daily but this eruption was a beauty. Vertical ash thrown up to 12,000 feet and at the same time a horizontal eruption that blew out one of the walls of the crater. VERY spectacular .
Tonight is going to be awesome after it gets dark.Lots of bangs, crackles and pops plus lava and gasses and lightning aplenty. I can hardly wait.

I think it’s about 25Km off the coast. to the East of the central North Island.
It is in a direct line from Mt Taranaki (Mt. Egmont), Mounts Ruepehu (active with snow and a hot crater lake), Ngarahoe A symmetric cone and quite active too and recently active Tongariro. Then the line runs through Lake Rotorua with a LOT of tourism, bubbling mud geysers and sulphurous gasses coming from the storm water drains. The place smells of hydrogen sulphide and shall we say …’clears the sinuses’ Then moving further we have the East coast of the North Island and off the shore White Island grumbles and smokes most days.
They don’t call NZ the ‘Shaky Isles ‘ for nothing
🙂
That should be 25 miles off the coast.

The folding stock AKM isn’t bad. I know it’s just an AK-47 on steroids but I found it didn’t lift much at all ( they’d seemed to have fixed that) and it was quite accurate to 300 m or so. We nicked them off abandoned T-55/56 tanks in a tank park in Zimbabwe and took them out into the bush north of the Capital and shot up the local Kopijis. There were weapons laying about all over the place as UDI had just finihshed and the war was over. Everyone was still in the ‘all lets be happy and hold hands etc…etc. Reality struck about 4 weeks after I had left and it rapidly degenerated into a Marxist hell hole.
@ Buckeye Abroad:
Enjoy the victory. I was disappointed last night to watch the Badgers dominate the first half, and then wilt and fold during the second half of the game. I will be content to watch the Badgers in the Rose Bowl — I grew up feeling fortunate if the team went to any post- season bowl at all, and remember the times when the team went 1- 9, and 1- 10. Now, if the hockey team would just get their act together, I would enjoy my winter sports season.

Latest from the White Island eruption in NZ. So far there have been 23 evacuated from the island and about half of them were injured or suffering burns. One fatality so far with 27 people still missing and with ongoing eruptions the island is too hazardous to approach to carry out a search.Helicopters have been withdrawn as darkness approaches (it’s 2030 hours right now. Hopefully some of the missing will find shelter in the old sulphur workings site on the island. Ash continues to fall and has totally blanketed the island. There has been both a vertical and a horizontal eruption taking out a side of the caldera as well as blowing out the rock plug and vaporising the hot lake. As the eruption has modulated the ash column has fallen back into the crater causing a pyroclastic flow if very hot gasses through the breach in the crater wall. Search and rescue will begin in 8 hours at dawn as long as approaches can be cleared. Many of the injured were passengers off a Pacific cruise liner. I believe it was ‘ Star of the Sea’, berthed at the Port of Taugange in the Bay of Plenty.

The majority of the missing tourists still on White Island appear to have come from the cruise ship.. ‘Ovation of the Sea’ and NOT ‘Star of the Seas !
The ship was due have sailed from the Port of Tauranga tonight however it has remained in port at least until tomorrow as the situation unfolds and the fate of these missing tourists is made clearer.
Latest from White Island….
Death toll is now confirmed as 5 as some of the critically burned have succumbed. Some of the missing 27 tourists ( many of them Australians on a SW Pacific cruise), and guides were photographed as a group walking along a 2 Km long track leading up to the steaming caldera just a minute and a half before the ground rose up under their feet and the helicopter cameraman lost sight of them as the whole caldera erupted. The second helicopter that had lifted them in close to the caldera remains on the island somewhere in the ash field.
