And Labor is Happy! Lowest unemployment rate since 1969 and 2000.

And then our elitist globalist/socialists allowed China into GATT and ratified NAFTA.

‘Those jobs aren’t coming back’- Obama

‘Trump will wreck the economy’ – nevertrumper elitists

‘DIE!!!! Middle America!!!’ – Editors of National Review

Looks like our ‘betters’ in the GOP were on Obama’s side, huh?

*I am 3 for 2 on college ball this week with one game to go, Miami burned me and revealed just how overrated they are, again. And Barbarian’s Berkley Bears stomped a mud-hole in the Tar-heels. Tonight’s game makes me look like a genius or a punter, but either way, not bad picks for week 1 with precious little info and lots of going against the spread. I bet a pretend $100 on each game and will keep a running tally to see if my betting outpaces my investments. That puts me up against Trump and his economics team. Starting fund value is $600. Please see prospectus for fees and disclaimers and full investing info 😉 *

Walk your street
And I’ll walk mine
And should we meet
Would you spare me some time?

‘Cause you should see my world, meet my kind
Before you judge our minds

Blue collar

Sleep your sleep
I’m awake and alive
I keep late hours
You’re nine to five

So I would like you know I need the quiet hours
To create in this world of mine

Blue collar

I’d like you to know at four in the morning
Things are coming mine
All I’ve seen, all I’ve done
And those I hope to find

I’d like to remind you at four in the morning, my world is very still
The air is fresh under diamond skies
Makes me glad to be alive

You keep that beat
And I keep time
Your restless face
Is no longer mine

I rest my feet while the world’s in heat
And I wish that you could do the same

Blue collar
Ah, blue collar

NCAA D1 Football Week #1 2018 OPEN THREAD

THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD

Ahhhhh, much better. With the end of summer comes College Football! Sadly, I volunteered to work 4 in a row night shifts over the holiday weekend. That said, I will pretty much have every Saturday off for the season…this way I can see my girls cheer at the little-guys football games then come home and catch all the big-guy games. Why do I like college ball so much? Easy, almost none of these players are gonna make it into the NFL. They are out there for the love of the game and to get an education, after their last game they are done. Are there some bad eggs? sure. But mostly, these guys get their education and go get a real job after college.

Right, get on with it…SO here I sit on the deck, smoking a AJ Fernandez Cigar and watching a barn-burner of a game between Purdue and Northwestern, two excellent schools. It’s close in the 4th on Thursday night. Northwestern is driving late and eating clock with a 4 point lead. This year, the NCAA scheduled some important games in week #1 that will have playoff implications. The AP and the Coaches poll look pretty similar, it’s Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia or Ohio State or Wisconsin to round out the top 4. Again this year it’s Alabama’s title to lose.

#17 West Virginia at Tennessee 3:30 PM – The West BY GOD Virginia Moutaineers and the Tennessee Vols have never met. That’s unusual for two old and storied teams like that who are in relative geographic proximity. The ‘Neers are 9 point faves at Rocky Top ooops…at neutral site B of A Stadium in Charlotte. They beat the spread and the misery continues at Tennessee this year. Sorry, Rain.

#6 Washington at #9 Auburn 3:30 PM – The best team in the west travels to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in ‘Hotlanta. It’s Huskies versus War Eagles in this great week 1 game. W is the top ranked team in the Pac-12, Auburn is top 3 or 4 in the SEC. The PAC-12 has under-performed for years against the SEC and in combined bowl wins. To get some respect, W has to win this or the whole PAC-12 will suffer at bowl time. Auburn is a 2 point favorite and they beat that spread.

North Carolina at California 4:00 PM – The Tar-Heels are a 7 point goat on the road to the Berkley Bears. ACC speed meets PAC-12 mediocrity. NC beats the spread and just might pull an upset on the road. I fear Barbarian will be crying in her mocha double shot half fat latte again this year.

#14 Michigan at #12 Notre Dame 7:30 PM – This storied rivalry is usually reserved for a snowy day in November. All eye are on M’s coach, Jim Harbaugh. His program has been pretty bad for the past couple years. ND has an outside chance to make the playoffs if they run the table. They play a lot of quality opponents this year. This game is a toss-up at most betting houses. The Golden Domers win at home.

Incarnate Word at New Mexico 8:00 PM – There is no line on this game, besides, who would dare put money against Incarnate Word? You wanna bet against God? Nope, not me.

#8 Miami at #25 LSU – Sun, Sep 2, 7:30 PM ET – Here we go again, over-ranked Miami again this year…they imploded last year while being touted as the second coming of ‘the u’. They are a 3.5 favorite on the road at Tiger Stadium. LSU, please win this game. But, if I had to bet money, its Miami beating the spread.

#20 Virginia Tech at #19 Florida State – Mon, Sep 3, 8:00 PM ET – FSU is a 7 point favorite at home. They beat the spread.

Yeah, this got buried, deep:

Consumer confidence pops in August to highest level since October 2000

Consumer confidence rose in August despite expectations it would slip.
The August reading is the highest since October 2000.
The survey measures American’s sentiment on current economic conditions and prospects for the next six months, including business and labor market conditions.

Consumer Confidence is a ‘leading indicator’ and this one predicts the next 6 month’s economic activity.

Oh, ad last quarter’s GDP got revised upward 0.1%…Stocks? Booming.

BOOM!!! Howz That GO Again, Nevertrumpers?

Trump will wreck the economy, so said the Nevertrumpers, one of them from here is even a professional money manager! Can you believe that? (Further highlighting the yuge differences between economists and finance guys, but I digress)

Nasdaq hits 8,000 for the first time as US and Mexico strike trade deal

Stocks jumped on Monday as the United States and Mexico closed a new trade deal. Investors also digested reassuring comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on the central bank’s policy-tightening path.

The Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.9 percent to an all-time high, breaking above 8,000 for the first time, as Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Alphabet. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 215 points as Caterpillar outperformed. The S&P 500 gained 0.6 percent to hit a record high with materials and financials as the best-performing sectors.

US and Mexico have reached a trade deal, paving the way toward replacing NAFTA

President Donald Trump says the deal would be called The United States-Mexico Trade agreement, getting rid of the NAFTA name. Trump adds the deal with Mexico is also very special for farmers and manufacturers.
Trump says Mexican officials promised the Latin American country would start buying as farm product as possible from the U.S…

Trump called outgoing Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to congratulate him on the negotiations and their outcome, noting Canada would be able to reincorporate itself to the talks. Canada has remained on the sidelines of trade talks recently while the U.S. aimed at first striking a deal with Mexico.

“Once the bilateral issues get resolved, Canada will be joining the talks to work on both bilateral issues and our trilateral issues,” Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s foreign minister, said Friday. “And will be happy to do that, once the bilateral US-Mexico issues have been resolved.”

Trump said negotiations with Canada had not started, adding that if Canada wanted to negotiate fairly, the U.S. would do that.
