Friday Beer Of The Week, Innis and Gunn Original

Aye, Laddies! The Beer of the Week is Innis and Gunn Barrel Aged Original Original Scottish Beer.

As I posted on Wednesday, after too many days in the salt mines and hitting the books for yet another Master’s degree, it was time to attend to serious goofing off at the annual golf outing at my Parents. Mom is banished from the estate and the men arrive. There will be much golf, beef, cigars, booze, and tall tales will be told! No Womenz allowed. That said, I sit on posting this from the deck on Wednesday whilst watching the beginnings of that tropical depression roll in, the showers are starting and the temperature is moderating. Soon there will be thunder and lighting. This will soften the greens up for Saturday allowing for some low scores.

I decided to pair this celebratory beer with a Montecristo White Churchill, perhaps the most civilized cigar in my collection. “Elegance and sophistication are the hallmarks of the Montecristo White Label cigar. The Dominican and Nicaraguan long filler blend encased by a honey-colored Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper produces abundant rich and creamy smoke with flavors of mellow pepper and wood laced with notes of sweetness and oats. Impeccably constructed, well-rounded, this is a classic cigar that never disappoints”.

The notes of this cigar pair perfectly with the toffee and caramel of the ale, the Styrian hops are also a nice touch.

Some days it is worth the struggle.

So Who’s Messing With The California Primaries?

The California Primaries are coming up on June 5th, the campaign flyers are filling up mail boxes in every neighborhood, and everyone is eyeballing the race for Governor except for those who aren’t.

California has “Open Primaries” which allows one to vote for any candidate regardless of one’s party affiliation, i.e., Democrats may vote for Republican candidates and vice-versa. Although it may sound reasonable to some, it has the potential to allow one political party to determine the nominee of the opposing party, which dilutes and undermines the credibility of election results. Getting the weaker candidate of the opposing party nominated is the game.

The race for California Governor is interesting this year, because there’s a chance, albeit remote, that the voters might wrest control from the incumbent socialists. The top four contenders as of 28 May are:

Gavin Newsom (D)
John Cox (R)
Antonio (aka Tony Villar) Villaraigosa (D)
Travis Allen (R).

Now back to the campaign flyers. Check this out.

That’s a typical flyer of half-truths and misinformation, Travis Allen doesn’t appear to have a chance,  but who paid for it?

Major funding from
Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO)
Eli Broad (NYC multi-billionaire, philanthropist, anti-2nd Amendment, pro-taxes)
Michael Bloomberg (ex-Mayor of New York City)

Note that the not-so-cleverly-embedded “Hillary Logo” attempts to equate John Cox to HRC. Pheeew.

California State Assemblyman Travis Allen is certainly qualified for the position of Governor, but he’s a long shot compared to John Cox, so why would people opposing Cox support Allen? Seems obvious.

[Update: Among those who have endorsed John Cox for Governor to date are John Coupal / Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, Newt Gingrich and POTUS Donald J. Trump.]
