Friday Night Booze Thread. Smithworks Vodka Open

As yinz are aware, Mrs Coldwarrior and I are total and complete vodka snobs. In our cabinet is Tito’s Handmade, Reyka, Jewel of Russia (Ultra), and Russian Standard. Luksusowa is the house vodka and does an admirable job as well.

When we test a new vodka it is done at room temperature, two shot glasses each, swish in the mouth, taste everything slowly. We have eliminated several so called ‘high end’ vodkas by this method for awful and sometimes weird flavors. Room temperature gives you the palletand nose and quickly reveals the undesirable tastes that are masked by drinking it at freezer temperature. Room temperature is the great equalizer and truest test. The infamous Coldwarrior and Mrs Coldwarrior taste challenge is to take two shot glasses at room temperature and truly taste the vodka, roll it around. Room temperature reveals all of the pallet (there should be just about none) and unmasks what is masked by drinking the vodka frozen. It’s brutal. I can tell you several so called ‘high end’ vodka’s fail this test miserably and only those that pass get a spot in the booze cabinet.

Well, as you know, all great vodkas are always made from virginal grains grown in idyllic locations or from organic, free-range, non-gmo, cage free, fair-trade potatoes…right? Sure they are. Any snob will attest to that fact.

Not so fast! I went to the State Store to get some booze. PA controls the hard liquor retail here, but that isn’t a bad thing, they are one of the largest purchasers in the world and can do amazing things with that power. Anyway, on the shelf was Smithworks Vodka. I purchased it with the intention of destroying it the infamous Coldwarrior and Mrs Coldwarrior taste challenge. This vodka is made from corn, CORN! BLASPHEMY!!! HA! what do they know about vodka in Kansas anyway. We’ll dismiss this pretender quickly and use it to thin out orange juice and as the booze portion for Bloody Marys and then never buy it again! HA! That’ll show those CORN people what great vodka is!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Smithworks passed with flying colors. This is a great vodka. This is truly neutral gain spirit and is so perfectly smooth and no weird tastes.

Enjoy!

‘Bama Says ‘NO Moore’

Judge Moore lost in deep deep red Alabama to a Democrat. I honestly can say that I am surprised. I assumed that the Evangelical Vote was there just enough for him to pull it out. Let’s face it, this election should not have been even close. Moore was the wrong candidate, Strange or Mo Brooks would have won this thing going away and Trump knew it. Strange or Brooks would have voted 99/100 the same as Moore in the Senate. Bannon’s power play failed. and now there is a Democrat Senator From Alabama. A Democrat Senator From Alabama.

Instead of an easy win with a great candidate, the Moron Bannon decided to push a pedophile, frankly, into the election. Honestly, if I were a ‘Bama voter I would have sat on my hands yesterday. Moore had a thing for teenie-boppers when he was in his 30’s (and I don’t care if they were ‘of age’). I have 3 daughters, if a 30-something showed up to date one of them in their teens he and I would go downstairs to the bar, share a scotch and even a cigar, and then we would have a discussion. We would talk about which would hurt worse, bird shot/rock salt to the balls or 00-buck to the thoracic cavity, would it be worse to be castrated with a a red-hot bolt-cutter or have the jewels repeatedly smashed with Louisville’s Finest Maple Baseball Bat? We would also discuss various bursting pressures of the male testicle when placed in different anatomical positions while using a hand-cranked vice; there may even be a discussion of the finer more violent points of Pecak Silat. All of this wide ranging, erudite banter would occur whilst I cleaned one of the AKs.

My assumption about the Evangelicals was wrong. They did what exactly I would have done. They stayed home and I give them kudos for that. Moore was the wrong guy and all of his bluster and stunts yielded nothing. So, what have we learned? We saw this happen a few times before. We need to run Trump/America First candidates who aren’t puritanical firebrands with a hangup for teenie-boppers (or any other bizarre predilections). We also learned the Trump was right again, and Bannon was wrong, again. And Bannon is too close to Lyin’ Ted Cruz for my liking.

I will of course assume that Jones won’t be re-elected once the GOP in ‘Bama runs a less weird candidate.

Joe Manchen in WV should be flipped to GOP. Time to make a deal.

On to 2018!

Something About an Election in ‘Bama

Today is the special election in ‘Bama. The Dems are 0-5 during the Trump Presidency and are facing a tough road game in very Conservative Alabama. Vegas has Jones a two point dog on the road against Judge Moore. Given the staunch resilience and superb defense of the ‘Bama voter and the ineptitude of the Dem offense (especially on the road) Moore beats this spread easily and takes his seat in the US Senate
