I gotta go get dinner.
I have to say I’m a fan of the Papa John’s commercials. Well, at least the ones that have Peyton Manning in them. When Papa John foregoes Peyton and does the commericals by hmself, they tend to involve the introduction of a set of ingredients that should not occur in nature. And remember, I live in California, where trendy pizza restaurants (don’t ever call them “parlours”) tend to go the “basil and goat cheese” and “artichoke pesto” route. These are salads. No need to get a crust and marinana sauce involved.
Well, Papa John got himself into a spot of bother this week when he announced that this whole anthem business was hurting sales and as a big sponsor of the NFL, he was pissed that the NFL leadership hadn’t taken charge of this situation last year when it first started. Which prompted Judd Legum of Think Progress to immediately tweet that Papa John is a – you guessed it – RAAAAACIST! Never mind that John Schnatter NEVER once mentioned black athletes. Which of course immediately prompted all the good little liberals to jump on the bandwagon attacking his character AND his product. Look I’m a Round Table or Mountain Mike’s girl myself, and always the pepperoni or the combo. But to disparage him and tell people that Little Ceasar’s is the better pizza? Okay, your mileage may vary but Jeez – LITTLE CEASAR’S? Why not just direct them to Cici’s Buffet, where you can enjoy pizza that has been sitting under the hot lights so long that it’s now become an archeological find.
And frankly, libs, most of the country AGREES with Schnatter – maybe not on what should go on a pizza but certainly on that “other thing.”
In the NFL this week (Byes to the Bears, Browns, Chargers, Vikings, Patriots and Steelers)

Congratulations to the Houston Astros, the World Series winners! Love it when the series takes it to 7 games (I imagine the networks are probably pretty happy about it, too!)
NASCAR is back in Texas for its third-to-last race of the season. Always a good race in Texas, but that’s not surprising because it’s TEXAS!!! Martin Truex maintains a 17 point lead in the points race, but the previously much hated Kyle Busch is closing in. Marriage and fatherhood have been good for Rowdy, who had once held the honor of the driver everyone loved to hate. Truex has never won the championship, so he’s my guy to hoist the trophy.
In the NHL, it’s still a local listing situation.
Redwings @ Oilers
Avalanche @ Islanders
Canadiens @ Blackhawks
Devils @ Flames
In the PGA, the final day round of the Shriners Hospital for Children Open from Las Vegas. Good cause, great golf. It’s a win-win.
In the NBA, looks like the Golden State Warfarts are starting the season rather poorly. That’s what you get for dissing the President and the White House, jerkoffs. And that’s as much as I care about the NBA.
And as always, this is your Sunday open thread to discuss the news the Democrats have tried to keep buried by releasing it on Friday night and over the weekend. And watch the leaves turn and plan your Thanksgiving menu (it’s never too early to start!).
Welllllll doooggies! In the Only Poll That Matters it’s The Georgia Bulldogs (8-0) as #1 with ‘Bama (8-0), Notre Dame (7-1), and Clemson (7-1) filling out the rest of the playoffs spots…for now.Strength of Schedule Matters and that is why ND is in the top 4 with one loss and Miami is nowhere to be seen with no losses. ND always have a tough schedule as the only major independent and are being rewarded for it.
So, what do we have this week?

#7 Penn State |
#24 Michigan State |

PSU lost it at the end to OSU but beat the spread on the road. The Nittany Lions are 10 point favorites on the road at MSU and will beat this spread, they have to win out and look good to make it to the playoffs.
| 12:00 PM |
ummmmm…why?
|
#5 Oklahoma |
#11 Oklahoma State |
4:00 PM |
This rivalry is always a great game. Oklahoma is a 2 point DOG on the road at the dangerous OkStateU Cowboys. The Cowboys beat this spread.
|
#19 LSU |
#2 Alabama |
8:00 PM |
The Tigers go to Tuscaloosa to take on The Borg…errr…The Crimson Tide. LSU is getting 22 and I have to believe that they can beat this spread because ‘Bama is lousy against the big spreads…except when I point that fact out.
|
#13 Virginia Tech |
#10 Miami |
8:00 PM |
Please Hoakies, win this so I don’t have to hear the sports writers gush all over Miami as if The Criminal Element from the 80’s and 90’s was back. VATech is a 1 point favorite, this is a pick ’em and I pick the Hoakies!

#22 Arizona |
#17 USC |

‘Zona is a touchdown dog at the Coliseum, USC beats this spread.
Economists expect job growth of 310,000 in October, a rebound after the impact of hurricanes Harvey and Irma resulted in a 33,000 decline in September.
The weak September employment report was the biggest shocker in U.S. economic data, after hurricanes ripped through Texas, Florida and other parts of the South in late August and early September. Other data has mostly come in strong, including GDP, which has now grown at 3 percent for two quarters in a row.
“Our forecast is for 325,000. It’s going to be a big number,” said Seth Carpenter, chief U.S. economist at UBS. “You’re going to get a kind of soft average for those two months.”
Goldman Sachs economists expect 340,000 non-farm payrolls, and they say the flooding and power outages from the storms knocked 180,000 jobs off the September payrolls.
Economists said they expect the unemployment rate to remain at an unchanged 4.2 percent, and average hourly earnings are expected to grow by 0.2 percent, or 2.7 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to Thomson Reuters. Wage gains ran at a surprisingly high pace of 2.9 percent.
The increasing is wages is key, this means a demand for labor and an economy that is becoming healthy. If this had happened under president ghetto fabulous we would never hear the end of it.
Where are ya now never-trumpers????? I can’t quite hear yinz yet. It’s OK, we’ll have a full accounting in a few years.
