American Blacks Are Not Responsible For Barack Obama

The article points out that Barack Obama has very little in common culturally with American blacks and is a product of white American culture. Obama has been throughout his life promoted, benefited, and  given a pass by guilt ridden White liberals snd I am glad that the author points out that it was the Republican Party lead by the odious Richard Nixon which came up with the “affirmative action” plan (“The Philadelphia Plan”) that riles up so many conservatives. American blacks may be “responsible” for Barack Obama only because they voted 95% for him, but they automatically vote 95% for Democrats – and that is the problem! That is why people such as Allen West, Tim Scott, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams and Clarence Thomas are so threatening to the white liberal establishment as well as the race hucksters such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.  Someone who has the audacity to think for himself is a heretic to the plantation mentality. As a commenter wrote “Sadly, a vast majority of Blacks in America have exchanged the real shackles of slavery for the mental shackles of slavery offered to them by the Democrat Party.”

by J.R. Dunn

I’m responding to a number of comments that in large part have gone unseen because they were intercepted before they ever went up.  Racists are always attempting to hitch a ride on legitimate sites, and AT is unfortunately no exception.  Anyone operating in the millennial media world must be careful, particularly a center-right website dealing forthrightly with sensitive topics as we do here.  There is nothing more common than fanatics of various stripes stepping over the line in the guise of “telling it straight.”  And there is no topic where this is seen more often than race.

The argument here appears to be that, Obama being black, he acts as a natural representative of black Americans as a whole, that his faults are their faults, and that the entire Obama administration represents yet another instance of the unworthiness and inferiority of blacks.

[…….]

First the contention that Obama is a “representative” American black.  AT readers will be well aware that I don’t believe that Obama is representative of much of anything at all, that he is sui generis to an extent that he might as well have walked off a starship from the planet Zong.  I haven’t shifted in that opinion one iota.

First, let’s consider how we define American blacks.  This is an exercise that is generally overlooked, surprisingly so considering how much debate has occurred on the topic.  As a people, American blacks are West Africans who were taken as part of the slave trade, and unwillingly brought to America where they suffered an undeniable ordeal lasting centuries.  Once here, they developed a culture sharing both African and Southern aspects, a unique combination of Scots-Irish and West African traits, particularly marked by an intense form of Christianity.  After enduring almost a century of legal segregation after their liberation as a result of the Civil War, they have for fifty years been entering the mainstream of American society, with not unexpected snags and delays.  They lag to a slight extent economically and scholastically, as might be expected considering their historical background.  (I’m well aware that there plenty of exceptions to these statements, but we don’t construct arguments out of exceptions.)

And Obama?  Here we have man with a white American mother and an East African father.  No connection to West Africa whatsoever.  He spent his early years in Hawaii, one of the most racially diverse areas in the United States.  He was raised in large part by his white grandparents.  He spent several years in Indonesia as the stepson of an Indonesian Muslim.  After returning to the U.S. he attended some of the country’s leading universities including Columbia and Harvard.  (At some point here, possibly at Columbia, which is set cheek-by-jowl with Harlem, he laid eyes on his first black slum.)  Virtually his entire professional life has been spent among white elites.

[….]

He has nothing in common with American blacks.  He shares neither their legacy nor their experience.  His posture as representative of black America is a pose, one of the many that comprise the persona of Barack Obama.  A charade, as we have been reminded of recently by no less an authority than Cornel West.  Unlike Colin Powell, Condaleezza Rice, and Clarence Thomas, raised respectively in Harlem, Alabama, and the Carolina Gullah region, Obama is in no way a product of American black culture.  American blacks have no responsibility for him, and cannot be held to blame for his excesses.

If anything, Obama is a product of white American culture, by means of affirmative action.  Obama is to some extent the stereotype result of affirmative action, the black kid made good who is continually trotted out to justify these obnoxious programs.  (Recall Patrick Chavis, the black doctor who took Allan Bakke’s place in medical school, and was presented as a towering success and proof positive of the value of set-aside programs until it was discovered that women were dying in his liposuction clinic.)

[…..]

Affirmative action is not a black innovation at all.  It was first instituted as policy by President Richard Nixon in the form of the “Philadelphia Plan,” evidently as an effort to mollify liberals.  (We all know how that worked out.)  So affirmative action is not only a white atrocity; it is a Republican atrocity, part of the long litany of crimes committed by RINOS in the name of proving that they’re not right-wing trogs.

The liberals latched onto affirmative action for their own purposes.  As with forced busing, it was utilized as a method of putting the screws to working-class whites to assure that they got with the program.  As has been pointed out repeatedly by Shelby Steele, Thomas Sowell, and Walter Williams among many others, any benefit that accrues to blacks is totally accidental.

[…..]

What affirmative action does is provide an easy leg up for those sly individuals who can figure out how to game the system.  We have all become acquainted with the master gamesman over the past few years.  Obama has successfully gamed Occidental, Columbia, Harvard, the U of Chicago, the Cook County political machine, the Annenberg Foundation, the U.S. Congress, the Nobel committee, and the American voter.

These are not black organizations.  The system that put Obama into office is a system constructed by white liberals for white liberal purposes.

[…..]

Obama has been a disappointment to American blacks along with everyone else.  (Proportionally more blacks than whites are suffering unemployment due to the Obama recession, for one thing.)  Obama has served as a wakeup call to black America.  It’s more than possible that Obama, by his very nature, will expose the phoniness of the liberal racial system.  We must not let the racist remnant wreck this opportunity.

It was the Democrats who supported slavery, the Democrats who established segregation, the Democrats who have excused racism at every turn and in every form.  That’s their record, and it can’t be denied.  It’s best we leave it to them.

Mr. President, What Planet Are You On?

Barack Obama held another presser today, and announced with his usual cool self confident manner that 80% of Americans are in favor of using tax hikes to solve our mounting debt crisis. Upon seeing this, it took me a good long while to quit laughing.  Of course, he says this as though nobody else in America is able to read a poll, or read any of the thousands of reports of polls being conducted on a nauseating basis. Little Barry is now slipping fast into the territory of sad figure losing touch with reality.  What makes this implosion so hard not to watch is his supreme arrogance.  I have not seen before in my lifetime a person so absent ability, so confident in his delivery.   That is saying something, as I have known some real dolts.  From the article linked to above:

That puts 76%, not 80%, somewhere in between the two points.  But Gallup breaks this out more effectively:

  • Only/Mostly with spending cuts: 50%
  • Only/Mostly with tax increases: 11%

Only 32% prefer a balance between spending cuts and tax increases, which added to the bottom option would still tilt the public far more in favor of spending cuts, 50/43.  Among independents — the most non-ideological group possible in this survey — it’s 51/41, a wider split. This is hardly a public that is “sold, sold!” on tax hikes.
And that’s just in the Gallup poll.  Two months ago, The Hill conducted its own pollthat showed opposition to tax hikes  at 45%, with only 13% favoring an even split between tax hikes and spending cuts to solve the deficit problem, with another 11% supporting a 2/1 split for spending cuts to tax hikes, and 15% for a 3/1 split.  Even under the most liberal (pun intended) definition of “balanced,” only 39% in that poll opted for the idea.
Obama has fallen very clearly out of step with the American public on spending and taxes, and the 80% remark just demonstrates his cluelessness.

Special note to Barack Obama’s handlers: Let him read a newspaper every now and again so that he does not continue making an ass of himself. It has passed embarrassing and moved into the territory of scary sad now. November of 2010 was a restraining order filed by the American people against Barack Obama. He has chosen to ignore it. His support for anything is no where near 80%. Mr. President, you are 15 months away from joining the ranks of McGovern, Carter, and Mondale.

UPDATE: Just because it seems to fit the President’s view of himself.

UPDATE II: Just when I thought the joke couldn’t sink my opinion of the Democrats any lower, along comes Sheila Jackson Lee (D) Mars to push the outside of that envelope just a little farther. I guess even the amount of money we borrow that we can not afford to is now a racial issue, and not a moment too soon either. It has been well over 48 hours since someone reminded us that anyone who believes in a limited fiscally responsible government that lived up to the Constitutional duties and limitations is in fact a knuckle dragging violent racist.

Jimmy Carter Jr., – all we need is a “malaise speech”; Obama takes nation’s citizens for fools

(Picture Update Hat Tip: Huckfunn)

We are right now living through Jimmy Carter’s second term if by some quirk of time travel we could go back to 1980 and reelect the vicious little peanut farmer from Plains, Georgia.  From appeasement of Islamic radicals, waging an undeclared war on our friends, hamstringing our military, to excessive moralizing and sanctimony, high unemployment, no growth, inflation, and a hectoring style trying to tell us that our good days are behind us, Barack Hussein Obama is Jimmy Carter’s political son.

by Charles Hurt

It has taken three decades, but Americans are finally living through Jimmy Carter’s second term.

Now we’ve got Jimmy Jr. barking at us from the White House about eating our peas and ripping off our Band-Aid. He might not even let us have our Social Security checks.

These are just the latest in a long line of nagging lectures. Already, we have been taught how we should sneeze into the crook of our arm. We need to drive less. And we need to caulk up those drafty houses of ours.

What ever happened to the soaring rhetoric and big bold ideas President Obama promised us in that historic election of his?

Is this what he meant by a new kind of politics? If so, no thanks. Oh, and it is not new. Jimmy already dragged us through all this once and we just barely survived it.

One of the most unpleasant things about Mr. Carter was the condescending disdain he could barely disguise for struggling Americans and their irritating malaise.

Increasingly, Jimmy Jr. is having difficulty concealing that very same disdain for us as the political winds around him turn hostile and all of his bright ideas lie fallow as nothing more than socialist hocus-pocus.

But even Mr. Carter never laid bare so baldly and plainly as Mr. Obama did earlier this week his deep-seated contempt for this whole annoying process we call “democracy.”

The problem with reaching a deal to raise the debt ceiling, he explained in a long sermon, is that there is this huge wave of Republicans who won control of the House in the last election by promising not to raise any more taxes and to cut the absurd overspending that has driven this town for decades.

He bemoaned – in public – that these Republicans are more concerned about the “next election” rather than doing “what’s right for the country.” In other words, he is saying the honorable thing would be for these Republicans to ignore the expressed wishes of voters, break their campaign promises and raise taxes. Wow.

As if the whole problem of Washington spending us into oblivion is the fault of stingy taxpayers and stupid voters. And what we really need is Jimmy Jr., who knows what is best for us despite what we may think.

[……]

So when would these tax hikes that he is demanding take effect?

In 2013, well after Mr. Obama must face voters for re-election.

Lucky for us, it appears more and more unlikely every day that we will have to suffer through a third term of Jimmy Carter‘s.

Michael Goodwin makes a good point that in listening to Obama’s speeches and press conferences, there is something of the movie “Groundhog Day” about it all. The same moralizing, stupid metaphors, immaturity, and barely concealed contempt for the American public seems to characterize it all.  “There’s a novel campaign theme: Elect me because you’re too dumb to understand how smart I am.” lol!

by Michael Goodwin

When President Obama started talking at his news conference Monday, I listened intently for 15 minutes or so. Then I got fidgety as his half-truths about the debt grew into full-blown whoppers. As he droned on, I did something I never did before during an Obama appearance: I turned off the TV.

Enough. He is the Man Who Won’t Listen to Anybody, so why should anybody listen to him?

[…..]

But for now, I will leave that unhappy duty to others. I am tired of Barack Obama. There’s nothing new there. His speeches are like “Groundhog Day.”

His presidency is a spectacular failure, his historic mandate squandered by adherence to leftist ideology and relentless partisanship. His policies are crushing the prospects for growth and dooming the hopes of 24 million Americans who are unemployed or working part-time.

Yet he is not going to change. He listens only to his own voice, which is why he has lost virtually his entire economic team.

The biggest media myth is that he is a centrist. Oh, please. It’s a theory without evidence, for there is not a single example on domestic issues where he voluntarily staked out a spot in the American middle.

Sure, on occasion, Obama will be to the right of the far, far left, but that is not the center. That just means he’s not Michael Moore.

[…..]
That’s the subtext of the debt-ceiling talks and his press conference. He voted against raising the ceiling as a senator, calling the need for an increase a “failure.”

Now he is not embarrassed to demand a hike of about $2.5 trillion, and more hair of the spending-and-taxing dog. He reveals his belief that your money is really the government’s and it will decide how much you can keep. The only cut he is comfortable with is in the defense budget.

He says it’s time to “pull off the Band-Aid” and “eat our peas.” Translation: It’s time for Republicans to give him everything he wants. That’s his definition of being an adult and acting in the national interest.

[…..]

In answering a question about a poll showing that two-thirds of voters don’t want the debt ceiling raised, he blew off 70 million Americans by saying they aren’t paying attention.

There’s a novel campaign theme: Elect me because you’re too dumb to understand how smart I am.

Harry Truman ran against a “Do-Nothing” Congress. Obama is running against a “Know-Nothing” nation.

Snarky comments usually come easy to me, until I run across something self-explanatory, like this. At least I hope it’s self-explanatory, because I can’t explain it –  who knows what it means. Sometimes it’s better just to post and back away quietly, on The Overnight Open Thread.
