Soros Environmental Group at Heart of Federal Raid of Gibson

by Bumr50

Big Government contributor Andrew Langer highlights the collusion between the George Soros funded environmental organization Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) in piece aptly titled :

The Gibson Raid: When You Lie Down with Dogs, You Get Up with Fleas

There’s an old saying that if you lie down with dogs be prepared to get up with fleas. Apparently if you lie down with environmentalists you should be prepared to get raided by the Feds.

That’s the lesson to be learned from the experience of Gibson Guitars, whose Tennessee-based operations were overrun by armed agents from the Fish and Wildlife Service this week. The agents were looking for wood used in the manufacturing of the company’s legendary six strings. They believe some of it comes from sources not considered environmentally correct.

Gibson’s CEO protested the raid loudly this week, and who can blame him? For years Gibson has worked hand in glove with far left environmental organizations in an effort to make sure their wood comes from “approved” sources. Gibson is a partner in Greenpeace’s “Music Wood” campaign. It was one of the first instrument makers to procure wood that has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), another green group. Gibson’s president sat on the board of Rainforest Alliance.

What has all the consorting with environmentalists gotten Gibson? Government jackboots kicking down doors and bad-mouthing from environmentalists.

And is anyone surprised to find George Soros involved in this saga?

So all along Gibson, recognizing that the community that comprises the purchasers of their products are generally a very “eco-conscious” crowd and perhaps wanting to be good “stewards” themselves took every possible step to ensure that they were doing things in a “green” fashion and in return had their doors kicked in by armed federal agents:

The Environmental Investigation Agency is a radical propaganda and agitation organization. It has pushed aggressively for the government to punish Gibson for not being green enough (despite Gibson’s long-standing history of yielding to green demands). EIA is supported by the anti-American billionaire Soros.

There is another wrinkle to the story here that’s worth highlighting. It has to do with a growing problem that my organization has been highlighting for months. An unsavory alliance of government policymakers, ideological activists, and corporate interests is colluding to block trade in goods from developing countries, in this case wood from Asia, India, and Africa.

Here’s where it gets even more interesting. We find out that, as usual, the motivation behind this clearly has nothing to do with the environment at all, but the political interests of everybody’s favorite administration, those who support them, and fans of the Progressive Left everywhere.

Why would they do this, and why would they target a popular and innovative American company? Blocking trade benefits timber interests in Europe and the United States. It also helps domestic unions who don’t like competition. And it satisfies the demands of hard greens who want to control the market for forest products. The Obama administration goes along with all this to support its union and green political base.

The loser here is not just Gibson but consumers who must pay higher prices for finished goods like guitars and other products requiring wood.

Got it?

So either stand and fight or succumb. There is no “moderation.” Cooperation simply leads to further submission.

Simply put, their partners in the environmental movement operate in bad faith. At the end of the day, greens are hostile to free enterprise and private property deep down in their bones. No amount of caving to their demands will placate them.

While Tea Partiers are portrayed by the mainstream media as radicals and potentially dangerous, no Tea Partier has ever advocated barging in to someone’s business and confiscating his property. It’s the far left environmental movement that is the real danger here, backed by the deep pockets of George Soros and others, and empowered by an Obama administration that will never solve the country’s jobs crisis if it continues harassing American companies this way. At the very least, it is time to examine this nation’s problem with overcriminalization–starting with the Lacey Act itself.

Is anyone still laughing at Glenn Beck’s messy, disorganized chalkboards?

Kudos to Andrew Langer and the work he’s doing with the Institute For Liberty in exposing these threats.

On Saturday August, 13 2011 The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published a story in the lead slot of their City & Region Section entitled ‘Study about Islam enters curriculums.’

What followed was an explanation of how the curriculum came about, and a laundry-list of characters that are involved in the public school system here in Western Pennsylvania and across the state that represent what I can only assume to be exemplary of the culture of Muslim apologism running rampant among administration and faculty.

Study about Islam enters curriculums

In the 10 years since 9/11, teachers have taken instruction on Islam’s history and impact from brief references in some Western Pennsylvania classrooms to extensive overviews.

“If we want our students to solve future problems, they must have a strong understanding of world religions,” said Doug Kirchner, social studies curriculum leader at Upper St. Clair High School.

With the school year set to start in a few weeks, several schools are adding classes or revamping curriculum to give students a more in-depth look at world religions, including Islam.

For the first time next spring, Upper St. Clair will offer a class called Asian and Middle Eastern studies that will provide a detailed analysis of Islam. Students at the high school first study Islam as freshmen in world geography.

“The course is run almost like a current events class,” Kirchner said. “Students begin to see how politics, economics and culture can be intertwined.”

And so, in the ninth grade (ages 13-14), these students will be provided a foundation of the Islamic culture in the context of ‘World Geography.’ The subject of ‘World Geography’ has been part of PA public school curriculum at least since I was in the 9th grade in 1992. The class is useless on so many levels, the most obvious being that it’s so broad that the curriculum is almost entirely up to the instructor what to actually cover in nine months.

To introduce Islam and make it a mandatory part of the curriculum almost guarantees that these kids will be presented with the standard leftist academic talking points, and be tested on them.

More follows:

The 9/11 hijackers were Islamic terrorists, but educators said they are taking care not to stereotype the faith.

Teachers at Sewickley Academy attempt to “depoliticize” the subject of Islam by focusing on its history in classes like world religion at the senior school and East Asian Studies at the middle school, said Claudia Gallant, assistant head of school for academic affairs.

“We give kids an accurate portrayal of the many different belief systems around the world,” Gallant said.

The school conducts assemblies acknowledging certain holidays including Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting when Muslims avoid eating and drinking during daylight hours. This year, Ramadan began Aug. 1 and will run through Aug. 29.

So, how does one present the facts objectively, and yet “not stereotype.”
Who determines what an “accurate portrayal” consists of? Why is a “portrayal” even necessary?

And even at the expensive and highly regarded PRIVATE institution, Sewickley Academy, an effort is being made to “DEPOLITICIZE” Islam.
Islam by it’s very nature cannot be “depoliticized,” as it is not simply a religion, it is a way of life. In fact, I’d be hard pressed to find a more evil word than “depoliticize” when it comes to the agenda of these apologists. It is simply code for ” dhimmitude.”

We continue:

Students at Greensburg Salem High School first learn about Islam in grade six when they start to study the Crusades as part of an international studies unit.

“It’s brand new to them,” said Bob Lehman, social studies teacher at Greensburg Salem. “They have a foundation with Christianity and Judaism, but we don’t really have a Muslim population here to the extent that they would know.”

They revisit the topic in 11th grade world history in a unit focusing on the world’s five largest religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. This year, Greensburg Salem is starting an international studies class.

There is no state requirement that determines when students should start studying about 9/11.

And so, Islam today is to be taught in relation to the Crusades centuries ago at ages 10-11. Gotcha.

“Curriculum decisions are made at the local level. However, with the impact that Sept. 11 had on our nation, school districts across Pennsylvania have incorporated it into their lessons,” said Tim Eller, spokesman for the state Department of Education.

Lehman said before 9/11, the topic of Islam had never been mentioned in Greensburg Salem’s U.S. history classes. The event forced educators to increase teaching of current events.

“Before that, we were struggling to get to the 1980s,” Lehman said.
Upper St. Clair eighth-graders study the roots of the war on terror in social studies classes, “so most students come into the high school with an ability to separate fact from fiction,” Kirchner said.

And so, in classrooms where you struggled to bring the students current within 30 years, you are now going to inject a socio-political movement.

Separating “fact” from “fiction”?

What “fiction” are these administrators and instructors attempting to avoid? Why the concern?

In Pittsburgh Public Schools, 9/11 did not make its way into curriculum until this coming school year, said Michael Dreger, social studies curriculum coordinator.

Officials are developing lesson plans pertaining to the attacks that will be taught in some upper-level elective classes and will focus on the events leading up to the attacks and the effects. Dreger said the lessons will not focus on the terrorists.

“There are radical groups within Islam, there are radical groups within Christianity,” he said. “We don’t want to focus on the negative aspects of one religion.”

“Not focus on terrorists”?!

I thought 9/11 was the reason for introducing the curriculum in the first place!

How will they portray Islam without portraying the “radical groups” in the context of 9/11?

Courtesy of this moron, the mask slips a bit here as he brings up the fact that there are “radical groups” within Christianity as well, and that their intention is NOT to place Islam in a realistic context in relation to current events including 9/11. It is to equate Islam with Christianity and to emphasize that “they are no different from us.

Moein Khawaja, executive director of the Philadelphia branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said when teaching religion, schools should cover basic beliefs and history.

Talking about the small percentage of Muslims who are extremists is best saved for advanced politics and history classes, he said. He points to the terrorist attacks in Norway executed by Anders Behring Breivik, who identifies himself as a Christian.

“An in-depth discussion of him during a basic lesson on Christianity would be inappropriate,” he said. “They should learn about it in the proper context.”

Read it all here: Study about Islam enters curriculums

Kudos to the writer for wrapping up the article with the string that binds it all together – CAIR.

Anders Behring Breivik vs. Millions of unnamed, shrouded militants all over the world.

See? They’re not so different.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I would encourage anyone reading this to take a more active role in their public school curriculum. Ask your smart-mouth teenager to show you their lesson plans – not just their books.

How our cities and towns are at the heart of Federal budget woes.

The local rag reported that one of the newly elected Pittsburgh City Council was going to “Meet with Obama.”

Being the concerned citizen that I am, I clicked the link to see just what they are “meeting” to discuss.

To my lack of surprise,it appears she is there for a big whinefest about lack of Federal funding for urban type projects:

Pittsburgh councilwoman to meet Friday with Obama
Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak will meet with President Barack Obama and other administration officials Friday in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Rudiak, who’s in her first term, was invited as part of a delegation from the American Way Foundation’s Young Elected Officials Network.

She said she plans to speak about federal funding cuts, public safety and community development issues.

As I’m more than a little concerned about the indoctrination of our youth, ESPECIALLY “urban” youths who sadly often have no counterbalancing and reason at home, and have no other resources to learn other than their local city school, I decide to investigate this organization with the overly long progressive-sounding name.

A little Googling:

About the YEO Network
Mission Statement

The mission of the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network is to unite and support progressive elected leaders who share a passion for building communities that reflect values of freedom, fairness and opportunity.

The YEO Network supports elected leaders ages 35 and under, as they define issues, develop solutions, and respond to the needs of their communities. By exchanging ideas, developing leadership skills and connecting with policy development organizations, YEO Network members will be empowered to transform their political vision into progressive action.

Through these means, the YEO Network will connect the progressive agenda at community levels across the country, ultimately producing an enduring pipeline of well-prepared national and world class leaders.

YEO is a subsidiary of the People for the American Way Foundation.

Here are there boards(?) of directors:

Now, what do any of these people have to do with Pittsburgh? (It’s a rhetorical question, I just thought I’d shine some light on the progress of these fascists.)

A-ha. Bought and paid for:

Natalia earned her Bachelor’s Degree from George Washington University through scholarships from the Pennsylvania and national AFL-CIO. During her undergraduate career, she studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science as well as Jagiellonian University in Poland.

Operation get stuff:

Through finding creative solutions between non-profits, foundations, and businesses – and through old-fashioned community building – we can bring our neighborhoods into the fold and improve the quality of life for all residents. It is time we had a voice on City Council who will fight to bring the resources that we deserve!

Now while you may initially write this off as a local issue, keep in mind the original story. She’s headed to Washington. Cause I can assure you that the City of Pittsburgh ain’t got no money. It’s in receivership.

Now, how many other towns have this same representative going to DC to beg for money. It adds up.

Remember : it starts local. Elections have consequences.

On June 9th, as America roasted it’s Weiner, Barack Obama passed his 86th executive order.

A discussion could ensue at this point, but before anyone starts in on the constitutionality of a President issuing 86 executive orders in less than three years hold on.

It gets much, much worse.

Executive Order 13575, titled the “Establishment of the White House Rural Council,” has at it’s vague and sweeping core an overreach of epic proportions affecting a segment of America that neither asked for such an action nor were consulted about it.

Before I go on, ladies and gentlemen I present to you Executive Order 13575 (pdf):

Executive Order 13575—Establishment of the White House Rural Council June 9, 2011

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America and in order to enhance Federal engagement with rural communities, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. Policy. Sixteen percent of the American population lives in rural counties. Strong, sustainable rural communities are essential to winning the future and ensuring American competitiveness in the years ahead. These communities supply our food, fiber, and energy, safeguard our natural resources, and are essential in the development of science and innovation. Though rural communities face numerous challenges, they also present enormous economic potential. The Federal Government has an important role to play in order to expand access to the capital necessary for economic growth, promote innovation, improve access to health care and education, and expand outdoor recreational activities on public lands.

To enhance the Federal Government’s efforts to address the needs of rural America, this order establishes a council to better coordinate Federal programs and maximize the impact of Federal investment to promote economic prosperity and quality of life in our rural communities.

Sec. 2. Establishment. There is established a White House Rural Council (Council).

Sec. 3. Membership. (a) The Secretary of Agriculture shall serve as the Chair of the Council, which shall also include the heads of the following executive branch departments, agencies, and offices:

(3) the Department of Justice;
(4) the Department of the Interior;
(5) the Department of Commerce;

(20) the Domestic Policy Council;
(21) the National Economic Council;
(22) the Small Business Administration;
(23) the Council on Environmental Quality;
(24) the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs;
(25) the White House Office of Cabinet Affairs; and such other executive branch departments, agencies, and offices as the President or the Secretary of Agriculture may, from time to time, designate.
(b) A member of the Council may designate, to perform the Council functions of the member, a senior-level official who is part of the member’s department, agency, or office, and who is a full-time officer or employee of the Federal Government.
(c) The Department of Agriculture shall provide funding and administrative support for the Council to the extent permitted by law and within existing appropriations.
(d) The Council shall coordinate its policy development through the Domestic Policy Council and the National Economic Council.

Sec. 4. Mission and Function of the Council. The Council shall work across executive departments, agencies, and offices to coordinate development of policy recommendations to promote economic prosperity and quality of life in rural America, and shall coordinate my Administration’s engagement with rural communities. The Council shall:
(a) make recommendations to the President, through the Director of the Domestic Policy Council and the Director of the National Economic Council, on streamlining and leveraging Federal investments in rural areas, where appropriate, to increase the impact of Federal dollars and create economic opportunities to improve the quality of life in rural America;
(b) coordinate and increase the effectiveness of Federal engagement with rural stakeholders, including agricultural organizations, small businesses, education and training institutions, health-care providers, telecommunications services providers, research and land grant institutions, law enforcement, State, local, and tribal governments, and nongovernmental organizations regarding the needs of rural America;
(c) coordinate Federal efforts directed toward the growth and development of geographic regions that encompass both urban and rural areas; and

Sec. 5. General Provisions.
(a) The heads of executive departments and agencies shall assist and provide information to the Council, consistent with applicable law, as may be necessary to carry out the functions of the Council. Each executive department and agency shall bear its own expense for participating in the Council.
(b) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) authority granted by law to an executive department, agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(c) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(d) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
BARACK OBAMA
The White House,
June 9, 2011.

Now, as you can see the thing starts off positively Orwellian, then neuters itself. This begs the question, “Why issue it at all?” I mean, we already have all of those departments listed in the thing. What’s the point?

The Blaze.com speculates that it is tied directly to the UN’s ‘Agenda 21.’

Within the twenty-five designated members of the council are some curious ties to Agenda 21 and the structure being built to implement it:

Valerie Jarrett from the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs served on the board of something called Local Initiatives Support Corportation (LISC). LISC uses the language of Agenda 21 and ICLEI as their web page details their work to build “Sustainable Communities.”

Melody Barnes head of the Domestic Policy Council – Former VP at George Soros-funded Center for American Progress.

Hilda Solis from the Labor Dept – in 2000 received an award for her work on “Environmental Justice.”

Nancy Sutley head of the White House Council on Environmental Quality – Served on the board of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Water District and was one of the biggest supporters of low-flow toilets that are now credited with costing more money than expected while causing some nasty problems.

Is it possible that concerns about 13575 are just typical anti-government paranoia? Let us review the mission and function of WHRC:

Sec. 4. Mission and Function of the Council. The Council shall work across executive departments, agencies, and offices to coordinate development of policy recommendations to promote economic prosperity and quality of life in rural America, and shall coordinate my Administration’s engagement with rural communities.

“Economic prosperity” and a better “quality of life,” that all sounds fairly innocent and well-intentioned. But continuing deeper into the order we find the council is charged with four directives, including:

(a) make recommendations to the President, through the Director of the Domestic Policy Council and the Director of the National Economic Council, on streamlining and leveraging Federal investments in rural areas, where appropriate, to increase the impact of Federal dollars and create economic opportunities to improve the quality of life in rural America;

The vague language here sounds non-threatening. But, is there a hint here that a “rural stimulus plan” might be in the making? Will the Federal government start pumping money into farmlands under the guise of creating “economic opportunities to improve the quality of life in rural America?” It is difficult to discern as the language is so broad.

Agenda 21, for those not familiar is defined by the UN as:

Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment.

It goes on about “sustainable development, but rather than share the UN’s take on it, I’ve unearthed an excerpt from the blog “Democrats Against UN Agenda 21.” You read that right.

Considering its policies are woven into all the General Plans of the cities and counties, it’s important for people to know where these policies are coming from. While many people support the United Nations for its peacemaking efforts, hardly anyone knows that they have very specific land use policies that they would like to see implemented in every city, county, state and nation. The specific plan is called United Nations Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, which has its basis in Communitarianism. By now, most Americans have heard of sustainable development but are largely unaware of Agenda 21.

In a nutshell, the plan calls for governments to take control of all land use and not leave any of the decision making in the hands of private property owners. It is assumed that people are not good stewards of their land and the government will do a better job if they are in control. Individual rights in general are to give way to the needs of communities as determined by the governing body. Moreover, people should be rounded up off the land and packed into human settlements, or islands of human habitation, close to employment centers and transportation. Another program, called the Wildlands Project spells out how most of the land is to be set aside for non-humans.

Not only is all of this pointedly un-American, I believe it serves as an opening salvo on the part of our Progressive administration towards control over the “bible-toting, gun-clinging rubes” out here in flyover country that just won’t get in line.

This is disturbing on so many levels that I felt it needed some sunshine here at the Blogmocracy.
