Captain Beefheart‘s fuzz-bass-infused version of “Diddy Wah Diddy.”
That lilting tune was written by Willie Dixon and Elias McDaniel (aka Elias Bates, aka Bo Diddley) and later covered by The Sonics, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and others. The title may be slang for a suburb of Baltimore, but here on The Blogmocracy it refers to a whompin’ stompin’ version of
The Overnight Open Thread.

Don Van Vliet passed away yesterday, succumbing to multiple sclerosis at the age of 69.
Although his music was often hard on the ears, his artwork hard on the eyes, he was the embodiment of eccentricity. Much of his character stemmed from his childhood; his parents apparently left him unrestrained, left him to do whatever he wanted (including not attending school).
